EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- David Beckham's new silver boots sparkled in the late afternoon. Michael Owen's more conventional white soccer shoes put the ball in the net.
Owen scored three goals, including one off a trademark cross from Beckham from the far right flank, and led England over Colombia 3-2 Tuesday in the finale of a two-game exhibition tour.
While Owen gets the goals, Beckham attracts limelight like a magnet picking up metal.
``I'm a very quiet person, so I don't mind him taking it,'' Owen said.
The 25-year-old forward scored in the 36th, 44th and 58th minutes for the second three-goal game of his international career. Colombia, preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Peru on Saturday and Ecuador on June 8, got goals from Mario Yepes in the 45th and Aldo Ramirez in the 79th.
With 32 international goals, Owen moved into fourth place on England's career list, trailing only Bobby Charlton (49), Gary Lineker (48) and Jimmy Greaves (44).
His final goal was what many in the crowd of 50,807 came to see. Beckham was all the way by the sideline when he sent a precise pass to Owen, who one-timed the ball past goalkeeper Farid Mondragon from the right post.
``That's the trademark of David Beckham. He's a fantastic crosser of the ball,'' Owen said. ``It makes your job a lot easier when people give you that type of ammunition.''
Beckham and Owen missed England's 2-1 win over the United States in Chicago on Saturday because they were with Real Madrid, which was playing the final game of its Spanish League season. The pair arrived in the United States on Sunday and provided the razzle-dazzle before coming out in the 73rd minute.
With pop star wife Victoria Adams, the former Posh Spice, Beckham has become a cultural icon, not soccer's best player but likely its most recognized face. He had a slight growth of mustache and goatee, and for Beckham Inc. the game was just part of a busy week that includes television and marketing appearances stretching from New York to California.
It was the first professional game in the United States for the 30-year-old midfielder, whose only previous appearances were in the Dallas Cup youth tournament in the late 1980s. He debuted his Predator Plus II boots, which will retail for $210.
``I think it's good, obviously, for me personally to get another cap for England and to play in America,'' he said. ``It's not every week we do that.''
He has 16 goals in 81 international games, and as captain is England's leader and poster boy. A 2003 movie about an 18-year-old woman who played soccer against the wishes of her orthodox Sikh family was titled: ``Bend it Like Beckham.''
With English fans ringing the field with the red-on-white Cross of St. George flag and singing ``Rule Britannia!'' Giants Stadium was a bit like home.
``The atmosphere was quite electric at times,'' he said. ``The American public and the fans, they do get excited on occasions like this.''
When asked whether his style changes, Beckham had to give two answers.
``My style of dress does sometimes,'' he said after explaining that on the field it's always the same.
Beckham made his career with Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid in July 2003, and Owen worked his way up at Liverpool before joining Real last August.
Owen, playing his 70th game for England, may have been offside for his first goal that was scored off a pass from Joe Cole. His second came after Colombia's John Restrepo elbowed Beckham in the head, drawing a yellow card and giving the English a free kick. Peter Crouch, a 6-foot-7 forward making his international debut, took a quick restart and fed Owen.
While Beckham is promoting soccer -- and himself -- Owen is becoming one of the great players in English history. His task is the hardest -- scoring. ``That's my job on the team,'' he said. ``I'm an attacking player, and scoring goals is 90 percent of my game.''
Notes - Owen had his only other three-goal game against Germany during a World Cup qualifier in September 2001. ... He surpassed a trio of former England stars who each scored 30 goals: Tom Finney, Nat Lofthouse and Alan Shearer.
