touches.. don't let your florentino perez-like love for the beautiful game cloud your judgement on theobald..

now i eh saying the man is anything more than an average baller, but i hadda give the man credit where credit is due..

you contend that doing the simple things well is expected, but i say that it takes a certain requisite level of discipline to operate in the holding mid role; which is the reason why it is the most difficult role to fill in football today.. that holding mid is a real thankless role and it real hard for a man to not try to force a play for 90 mins.. look big players like beckham try the role and fail because they couldnt cope with the restricted nature of the role.. any player worth his salt want to spray cross field ball, play defence splitting thru pass and leggo a bullet or two..

u said that he need to be doing them things under pressure but the fact that he isn't frequently under pressure is probably more of a testament for his positional awareness and ability to create space for himself than an indictment.. and i dont agree that a big physical presence is a necessity for the holding role cause from what i saw he was real hustling and harrying the attackers.. and yorke is playing excellent in that role at sunderland even though he is no bruiser and his slow as well..

i follow the same local games in the digicel and i find he was poor in the first couple games but gradually progressed as the tournament went along.. granted the opposition wasn't the greatest, he was still among the best we had to offer.. and i have a hunch that being exposed to a european league where he most likely under a different level of pace and hustle, we could see some improvements..

just my opinion.. :beermug: :beermug:

Alright Kiffy since you is Denzil champion.

Apart from that game against a poor underprepared US outfit, what else has theobold done that comes to mind easily?

Fitness and speed are two different things. He may be fit but I still find he slow.

I have followed every TT game, I particularly watch with a keen eye certain players and Denzil is one of them. To put him as a defensive mid to tackle and scrap...that is not his thing.

He is a fly-weight and he bruises no one.

I will give him pips in that his technique is good. I do not buy the arguement that he does the simple things well...For me as a football player that is EXPECTED. Especially when under no pressure. The true test is if you can do these same things with a man on your back or in a tight space....something I am yet to see him do consistently.

If you can make something look simple under pressure...that is the mark of a good player.

Now it takes a certain degree of fitness and awareness to create space for yourself, I acknowledge that, but given the opposition I last saw him against..no one ventured to tackle him as all the teams sat back and waited for the long ball hit and hope game that TT has now resorted to.

If he is the creative mid or playing behind the two strikers I could see him in that position. However there are others who are better suited to that role.

But say wha, the man went Germany and play on the biggest stage in football...who is me to say he ent good.

Omar ah see yuh mirror my sentiments.  Dat mean yuh have great potential to be ah big big coach.  Ah see Barataria bringing back long time thread dat was emotionally bias at dat particular time.  We went down to England, and men was looking for scape goat.  Imagine ah man on dat thread was saying dat Wise should ah be starting.  Dat alone goes to show dat was a rubbish thread.  If yuh like Dwight Yorke and his style ah play, it have no way yuh cyah like Theobald.  At 24 years of age, skippering de national team, and is de holding midfielder. Big old veteran like Glasgow still have to listen to him and take ball up.

Also I do not like Theobold.

I find he not good enough and I am mystified as to how he play every game in the WC and get more minutes than Latapy.

Plain talk bad manners he has a doubles paper finish...he comes second in the tackle, he wins no headers in the middle and he not fast.

He replaceable.

Touches say de man not fast yes.  One of de fittest players on de team after Dwight.  And is because of he work rate, tracking back, covering, and ball sense is why he was always ah fixture for Beenhaker.  Yuh got to tink like ah coach and not jes watch de entertainment aspect.  (meh not saying you doh do dat)...but yuh should reconsider de comments about de man speed and coming in second (which is called covering).  World cup was ah different story, for a locally based young player under so much pressure by his country and also playing out of position.  Look how different his game looks now after de world cup.  Try and Remember de TnT USA game on ash Wednesday in de oval, when he come on in de dying stages and take control ah de whole field like ah general and set up we goal

And yuh want to tell meh Darryl more consistent dan Theobald.  Ah know sometimes I does be ketching meh lil kicks and ting.  But dat is ah serious comment.  Darryl could never be more consistent dan Theobald.  Yuh didnt watch de Gold Cup.  Theobald was always Solid and holding de midfield like a general. Maybe not too flashy, but very very very effective.  Darryl wait until de last 12 minutes ah we last game in de Gold Cup, to start to play football.  I was right dey up in de Foxborough watching de yute.  He have a fighting spirit, but is far from consistent.  Ask de Sparta fans and ah sure dey goh tell yuh de same ting.  From Heroe to Villain, den back to Hero den back to nutting den back to someting and so on.

Men still sleeping on Darryl Roberts in mdifield, his natural position.
Darryl Roberts aint have dah composure to play in de middle ah de park. Maybe in intercol.
The Dutch Eriedivisie is a little bit higher standard than Intercol. Or the English Championship where Birchall can't get a run. Or the Hungarian whatever where Theobald still waiting.
Dat comment about de Dutch Eriedivisie might be true, but he team have more sense dan to play him as a central midfielder.  Darryl could never make as a central midfielder infront ah Theobald or Birchall.  Ah know Darrly might be yuh boy, but come on man...Central Midfield?.  Go back to meh original post and let reality soak eeene

Darryl Roberts aint have dah composure to play in de middle ah de park.  Maybe in intercol. Not on de national team.  Leave him up in front to give de opposition de ball and den win it back like he good at.  Midfield without a doubt would be Yorke, Theobald and Birchall.  Carlos on de Right, Colin or Spann on de left.  Ah feeling Colin more doh.  Spann does give meh ah nice Right Back position, and ah could take back Cyd or Avery on meh left back.  Sancho and anybody else behind him.  Den ah have de Kenwyn and Darryl up front.

In goal, ah looking at de big man from Europe who save in we Iceland game ah tink, or one ah dem warm ups.  But definitely not Jack, or Jan, or Marvin.  Unless dey use de next 1423 days practising de fundamentals of correct goal keeping before de world cup.  Dat side is de best bomb dat we could go wid.

Sealy starting to look more and more clinical boy.  Ah tink we just need to leave de man and let him do he ting.  When he not under pressure from "big boy" European-based teammates, who he feel he need to bounce it back one touch every time he get ah lickle touch.  We have to start praising de man from all now, build back he confidence and let de man start to finish like how he does do it in de MLS.  He and Kenwyn is my starting strikers for sure.  Had luck Stern John, no hard feelings, but ah tink yuh expire

Football / Re: Final team prepares for Olympic qualifier vs Cuba.
« on: October 05, 2007, 06:27:41 AM »
Question.

If Abu Bakr isn't selected for these matches, and we qualify for the final round, would he have to sit out our first match then, against a presumably bigger opponent ?

basically mih question is, if a man pick up a red card let we say headbutting ah opponent, and he happen to hurt his head in the process, seeing that he injured for the next match, does him not playing really count as a 'suspension' ?
Abu Bakr was not selected because he would have been missing school in vain.  Even if they brought him, he would have had to sit out the first match since he got a red card against Suriname.  The cause of the red card is not taken into consideration.  A red is a red.The next game after Cuba, he will be able to play.  So automatically, his absence count as a sit out.  Whether in the country or not.

People have to understand dat in de colleges league today, COLLEGES are pulling away from de football focus.  And when I say Colleges I not talking about St. Anthony's.  We know they not really ah college.  Anyways, parents are making their children study hard to get academic schol to come out in de US, because educated people now realizing that football scholarship is ah risky committment, dat could leave yuh in no-man's-land if yuh get injured, or if yuh simply not performing (Den yuh Ass is grass).  It not like long time where schools like QRC use to draft men ene from quite Tobago and ting to play football.  And on top ah dat, make sure dey get ene six form with two 3s and ah 4.  Dem ting stop, and de whole standard ah de league drop too.  CIC start to do de same ting.  De last good CIC team was wid Scott Sealy.  Ah hope ah making sense, and until den CIC might never get back up in de Championship division because it have de 5 year schools and dem who go draft players to raise dem prestige.

De reason why de level would never raise is because dey never ever put enough focus on de children league and dem.  Is always ah lickle family fete match wid de La Foucade boy against de Jah lilly white and it stops dere.  What we need is to carry all these PFL teams right dong to Under 12 level, wid real referees and not somebody fadder, or ah snowcone man wid ah jersey in he hand.  If we get de young leagues serious and more establish, den de football will develop ah whole lot better and quicker.  Most ah de good footballers only discover dey talent in secondary school (jes like me)....and dey went on after to do bigger and better tings.  We need to start de chirren program from earlier and make de ting official. Let dem know what competition and big stage is about.  Imagine we doh even have a female chirren league and until we start dat......Doh even tink bout de womens team reaching close to USA, Brazil Japan or any ah dem.  Who aint like how ah song...leh meh know...But I know dat is de Gospel

question:

what about the warriors that pulled out of the legal action like theobald, yorke et al..

if there is some compensation to come out of the arbitration, are they entitled to a share or is salt still their portion?
Theobald goh still get someting even doh he pull out.  TTFF cannot do de right ting for half de team because dey protest.  Odderwise TTFF will appear most unethical, and would lose de balance a little prestige dat dey have.  even if dey try to hold back on paying men like Theobald, he go win dem easy in court after dat

lol  comparing jones to Rooney    das like comparing pot roast to fillet mignon

give me a break

Good luck jones boy but you not even near...yet

I cah agree with u there. Especially cause I doubt u eat either pot roast or fillet mignon in Trinidad !

Every coach who ever see Jones play said has drooled at his potential and Beenhaaker said it best ''he can be as good as he wants to be''. Kenwyne have strength, speed, skill, both feet, a bullet and he goes one better on Rooney cause he has height to go with his size. Plue he can play up front on his own, unlike Rooney.

With that said...they can be compared in my opinion. Even if Rooney might still be better, Kenwyne only disadvantage is cause he from Trinidad.
Spidee,
Like yuh mirror my same sentiments.  Dey almost make me feel I was a mad man.  But you have plenty stars next to yuh name...so dey go believe you.  I jes waiting for a man with green stars to come out ah de closet and let dem know what we saying is true
