Mt. Pleasant is run by people who have European connections.
They also have firmer national coaches Theodore whitmore abd Warren Barret on their technical team.

It’s not often that you have players moving from Jamaica straight to Serie A

https://www.caribbeannationalweekly.com/sports/jamaican-footballer-trivante-stewart-signs-with-italian-serie-a-side-salernitana/

Russel Lattapy  and Leonson Lewis also played in Jamaica for PMU back in the day

Nothing strange about this move.  Mount Pleasant just sent a player to Salernitana in Serie A, Annette Gardens just sent one to Ankaragucu in the Turkush Superlig.  Phoenix Academy recently sent a 18 yo Whisper Richards to Chelsea, Leon Bailey got his start there before moving to Belgium.  MT Pleasant is 3rd highest rank football club in the Caribbean and owned by Europeans.

Guadeloupe, Martinique, Curaçao benefits from FIFA laws that allow them to use former French and Dutch internationals that have not played for France/Netherlands in the past 5 years. They also can draw from players anywhere in the French / Dutch leagues with ties to the islands.  From that perspective, these French/Dutch Caribbean teams have the potential to field teams that can conceivably win the Gold Cup.

Not true Mr. Eve.  Jamaican citizenship by decent requires at least one parent to be a Jamaican citizen.

Citizenship by Descent

Jamaican Citizenship by Descent refers to:

Anyone born outside of Jamaica to parents (mother or father or both) who are citizens of Jamaica at the time of birth

Proof of Citizenship:

Certificate of citizenship issued by the Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency of the Ministry of National Security in Jamaica.

None of the Caribbean nations have the fan base and infrastructure to adequately develop players through its domestic leagues.
We simply cannot compete with Liga MX, MLS etc.  Any international coach you hire will tell you that the infrastructure and culture just does not exist in the Caribbean to consistently compete with clubs in Europe especially.

Jamaica is in a rebuilding process, new coach, new ideas, and with that we are also seeing more EPL caliber players with fading hopes of playing for England now showing interest. Jamaica is one of the few, if not only CONCACAF nations that can field a squad comprising entirely EPL players if it desires, but that comes with its own set of issues that our third world level Administration might not be equipped to deal with.

Yes, the new coach has not had success since taking over, but when you look at the caliber teams he's played since taking over - World champions Argentina, Africa champions Morocco, Cameroon, Qatar, Mexico etc.  you will quickly realize that the games up to this point were tough ones and played with experimental squads.

The coach has not selected a single player from the domestic league, a strong indication that he does not have much confidence in the leauge.
The lone local based selection is from the Manning Cup - Schoolboy football. Let that sink in.

There is saying in sports "offence wins games, defence wins championships". Jamaica success up to this point has relied heavily on it's defensive play lead by goalkeeper Blake. Only two goals conceded leading up to the final.  Call it bunkering if you will or "parking the bus". It's a strategy that has gotten Jamaica deep into this tournament.

Of course the two target strikers has 4 goals between them with another 2 coming from wide players so the offense has done it's part as well.

Well need two goals and a stellar defense tonight to stop the hosts.

Caribbean football must be strong when teams like T&T, Haiti and Cuba are not good enough to make the Gold Cup.  In fact Martinique, Curacao and French Guiana represented well.

The US keep beating everybody, looks like another US vs Mexico finals.

:yawning: :yawning:  Stevie Wonder could have seen this coming.....was there ever a year when neither team was in the Finals??

The party was spoiled last year as the USA got knocked out at the Semis by a Caribbean team.  Said Caribbean team is back in the semis this year and will face Mexico for a place in the final tonight.

The USA are favorites in my book to win it all.  Mexico has sent a weak team to this tournament this edition.

Guess i will be seeing Jones live when Atlanta United bows into action in the 2017 MLS season...they will be playing in the brand new Mercedes Benz stadium, which i hear will be one of if not the best general purpose stadium in the US when it opens. Hope they can assemble a good team.

Ah remember doing some serious detective wuk on the old boards, tracing man ISP and thing when somebody (usually RF) would post crap or try to sabotage we.

Remember when Flex used the feature that would bump the threads with the most recent posts on the old board. it wasn't a bad feature because we used to lose good threads as other threads get too long or as newer threads showed up.

It last about one day before some ass start posting shit as anonymous to mess up the system, so that Flex remove it.

Not before calling out RF as the culprit however.

But of course he will say that he didn't do that either.

It wasn't me

A team that is made up of many reserves we did ok.

Hope from this experience the trial guys realize to play at the international level they need to work very hard.

no they didn't they looked slow and woefully out of there depth.....are u a pro league coach....that tour did more harm than good for our rep...in terms of getting good friendlies when we need them

Hard to please the fans eh? The federation organizes, whether directly or indirectly soccer games against decent foreign opponents and the fans still complaining. Do you honestly believe that playing and beating Cuba, Antigua and Grenada would be good for your "reputation" ?  Listen, football is not only about winning breddah, playing and beating teams at your level does very little to make you better. Thise games vs Peru, China and Uruguay are valuable learning experiences for both the the coaching staff and the players that participated.

I know my comments are generally not welcome here, so i will grab the pop-corn and watch the venom coming back my way by the likes of Sam :)

Still basking in the glory of my team's away win over Chile...but still cautous about the fact that we could still end up getting blown out by our opponents in our group.  Eh eh.

Only looked at the highlights but 3 of the goals was due to our defense being very ordinary. Positioning of the keeper was also piss poor he didn't  provide much resistance at the back.Hope we fear better against Uruguay seems we are going to have problems coping with the south american fast pace style of play.

Come on guys, if you think T&T looked bad against Peru, wiat until you see a full-strength, world #3 ranked Chile tackle the hapless reggaeboyz in Santiago on Friday. Ill be happy if we come away with 4-0 defeat. Heh heh.

Peru are no St. Vincent or Guatemala.
bredder, if we had our 8 starters there was no way peru would have played rounders with us. could you imagine jamaica going to the copa with eight ordinary players from arnet gardens, water house and mobay united? well that's what happened to us last night.

players like da silva, leston paul, plaza, cyrus, hector, john, winchester, marcus joseph, curtis gonzales, tristen hodges, williams from connection, and one other player who's name evades me, but they were all local who would not get a snuff at first team ball. it;'s time to stop playing games out side the fifa window, and this should be the very last time we do such a thing. it's watseful and amount to nothing, we can't even gauge how our best team would stand up to such an opposition so whats the use.

That's what I'm saying man, I find that you guys are stressing too much over this result...although i can understand given the recent rich vein of form your teams have been in going back last summer at the gold cup.  I don't know, but you need a strong bench to get through world cup qualifying...at some point throughout a long campaign players will accumulate yellow cards, get red cards, get injured, lose passport , lose form, get old or get love sick from being away from their woman/women for long period of times. ehe heh. Not playing these games because of unavailability of starters would be sending the wrong message.  All your stars today started out in your doemstic league, or most of them...so to ignore the very league that produced Joevin Jones etc is not the way forward.

That's an impressive scoreline, Congrats man.

I would love to be able to say to you guys  "see you in the Hex" but at this point, our progress to the Hex looks in serious doubt -- unless we can somehow come up with a win in Panama in September, and route Haiti at home. Yeah, its pretty much out of our control to some extent.

Win in Panama, Beat Haiti handsomely at home and hope that Costa Rica also beat Panama in San Jose.

Tall order that.

RF allyuh need to get that Leon Bailey situation sorted out. He and Levi Garcia can be two of the best players in CONCACAF for the next 10 years. Its a shame he isnt playing because he has been dominant in the Belgium league lately and with him and Barnes back in September I believe yall would have a chance to win both games.

September is a long long ways off...but yeah missing Austin, Barnes and MacCleary for these last two back to back games was a tough blow to us.  The way i see it, we have no choice but to get a win in Panama. doable, but tough!

Leon Bailey, he will play for Jamaica one day...for now his dad's ego and ongoing squabble with the JFF will put that on hold for the forseable future. Unless of course Belgium sees something in him and caps him before we do.

i am absolutely positive that uraguay was the ones who contacted us and not the other way around. is it any surprise that we got a game again a team in jamaica's group at the copa?

they play jamaica and everyone who plays either of us both benefits by getting quality friendlies ala england jamaica at wembly 2006.

All the CONMEBOL teams placed in groups with caribbean teams in the upcoming Copa are looking to secure practice games to prepare for the physical, unpredictable game played by the caribbean teams. I posted in another post, the JFF are in communication with BRAZIL to arrange a game for them to prepare for Haiti..this was announced last week for a game to be played in the US.  I am sure either of Costa Rica or Honduras will get a game with Argentina to prepare them for Panama who is in their group.  USA has already arranged to bring Bolivia to the US for a warm up game as well.

Caribbean teams tend to be physical and unpredictable...Jamaica, with better finishers and more composure could have beaten Uruguay or even tied Argentina and Paraguay at the last COPA...we saw also what caribbean teams did at the last Gold Cup. Caribbean football is on the rise.

I am of the opinion that Panama...of all the CONCACAF teams will spring a major surprise in the upcoming games. They have a good mix of good physical players...and they are slightly more technical than the Caribbean teams at the moment. IMO.

Very soon this Jamaican team would be an england C team?

I like to see local talent on display, not a bunch of foreigners who's vaguely familiar with the culture and the vibe of the place. I would rather have our own home grown talent on showcase with one of two foreign born trinis in the mix, but when half your team is foreign born players then imo that is not your national team.

Thank god we don't have to deal with that. For instance Germaine beckford and the way he blew off Jamaica, I doubt he would have done that to the lions had he been in the squad, for that matter he would have been more than glad for the call up instead of saying that international football was not on his list of priorities.

As a British citizen I could say with certainty that these boys love England like cook food and their dream to don the union jack is overwhelmingly great. In reality they don't have the level of affinity and patriotism for their parents home land the way they feel for england and our little Caribbean island will always be second fiddle compared to their beloved John bull dog.

Sadly, Jamaica's domestic league is not good enough to supply players that can take our football to the next level. We have had several coaches from overseas tell us this...our domestic clubs/leagues do not prepare players for the international stage.  Until that changes...we will continue to tap into the diaspora, be it Jamaican born players playing there, or players born there with Jamaican heritage. Keep in mind that our local domestic league is still mostly Semi-pro facilities are still behind world standards.

I believe any country in CONCACAF with the player pool Jamaica has over-seas would have done the same...including T&T...you have some of your own in your team today and have been served well in the past....only not in the same quantity as Jamaica has to choose from.

When you look at players like Ashley Young, Raheem Stirling, Daniel Sturridge, and before them John Barnes, Sol Campbell, Ian Wright, all england Legends who would have been eligble to play for Jamaica.

In fact, if the JFF wasnt so third world in its operations, Jamaica could harness the overseas talent to its benefit. Many of these players stay away because of our amateur Federation.

That is ah considerable amount of money!  Some ah allyuh need to jess hush allyuh ass.  Why would All these big brands jump to sponsor us right now?  What we doing to expand their market?

Romai is based in Dubai, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they are looking to grow in the region.  The good thing about them is that the designs are not generic...as you can see Jamaica has a custom design that no one else has.

$20M TT is roughly US 3.1 million dollars.  The JFF's contract with Romai is worth roughly US$5M...this deal was signed prior to Jamaica's run to the gold Cup final and creditable showing at the Copa America this year.

They also outfit Bahrain I think.

MBU's Powell launches bid to unseat Burrell
BY PAUL A REID Observer writer

The MoBay businessman claims he had discussions with Burrell regarding his proposed challenge, but he thought the next voting congress would have been in three years' time, in 2018.

He said it was only recently that he realized the voting congress would be this year, so he fast-forwarded his decision.

Chelsea Football Club have today completed the signing of Jamaica International Michael Hector from Reading.

The 23-year-old centre-back, who has signed a five-year-contract, will return to Reading and spend the remainder of this season on loan at the Madejski Stadium.

Hector, from London and a boyhood Chelsea supporter, began his career in the youth team at Millwall and moved to the Reading academy in 2009.

Having continued his development and gained crucial experience of first-team football out on loan, Hector made his Reading debut in January 2014 at the age of 21.

Last season, under the guidance of former Chelsea player and coach Steve Clarke, Hector established himself as a hugely important member of the Reading defence, making 49 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals. He also played the full 120 minutes of Reading's FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal at Wembley.

Hector, who captained Reading for the first time last week, has represented Jamaica at international level and started all three of their matches at this summer’s Copa America.

------------------

Great talent this kid, I believe he would eventually have gotten an England cap had he not comitted to Jamaica. He Had a bad game in the GC final vs Mexico, but overall a very solid, promising defender. Was excellent in the Copa America, which no doubt contributed somewhat to Chelsea signing him.

We saw what happened when Theodore Whitmore and then Russell Latapy were thrown in the lions den.
And we saw what happened when Rene Simons and Leo Beenhakker were in charge.

While Jamaica has world class coaches and administrators in track and field athletics and netball to a lesser extent, our football is largely amateur.  The big problem in establishing a Caribbean wide football league is very obvious... great distance between countries, its cheaper to fly to Miami or Atlanta from Kingston than it is to fly to Port Of Spain or Georgetown.

Costa Rica will get rid of Wanchope soon... if he doesn't turn things around, Costa Rica has been terrible under him.

Carl Brown was Jamaica national team coach for close to 25 years, or it felt like it... yes, he won a couple Caribbean cups, but that was as far as he was able to get us.

reggae fan excuse my incourteous remark but i strongly believe that your team would be exposed by mexico today as a team that rode an incredible wave of luck all the way to the final, and i also believe that mexico will put on a show today against a team that has limited striking ability. please dont misunderstand me i believe you have a wonderful team with an iron clad defense but just like panama your offense is almost nonexistent and can't muster up no more than a goal or two at a time, and this i am afraid will not be sufficient to vanquish a team with the pedigree of a mexico who only gets better with time and as a tournament progresses.

non the less i would be supporting you and hope that you could pull a rabbit out of a hat despite the rude uncanny remarks made by rudy austin last november in the caribbean cup where he acted like a total wanker. that really had me gast for a while.
7 goals so far in the tournament, all within regulation play doesn't suggest a team that has a "non existent" offence. With that said, our games so far have all been built around keeping shape in defence and compact midfield...and that's what has kept us unbeaten to date, may not always look pretty, but winning a game by 1-0 margin is the same as winning it 6-0...a win is a win.

Panama finished third place without winning a single game in regulation time. This is not a team that has limited striking ability, contrary I believe their problem is their inability to defend a lead. they have taken the lead in every single game, but end up conceding late.

I don't predict games..needless to say Mexico starts favorites...just like the USA did against us in the semis.  looking bforward to seeing my team on the podium today...whatever the color of their medals, they have been fantastic through Copa America and the Gold Cup.

What did Austin say?

Jamaica, shouldnt take Nicaragua lightly. Nicaragua has pumped some resources into their national team recently. They are also scouting foreign born players from USA and Spain. They pulled off good results against Suriname. I think they will either play very well or very poorly against Jamaica.

We need to get some quality matches so we can stay sharp.

Jamaica will take no one lightly, not with this coach that we have. I dont consider Nicaragua a weak team, we saw them a couple years ago at the Gold cup and they looked a decent side then. I can imagine they have gotten better.

With that said, Jamaic will be strengthening, Jason Puncheon of Chrystal Palace is set to join he squad. I imagibe with jamaicas recent success there might also be othet players looking to get a run in the squad as well.

LOVE IT - shed no tear for the usa  - now to see Mexico go down. So etimesDefeat is sweet - especially when it conquers arrogance - yeah Zeppo -

Just maybe  this tournamentcouldbeheldintheCaribbean - different groups hostedby different islands thenTnT hosting the semis and finals
i dont think the usa is any bothered about losing this inconsequential game.

Let the tournament remain in the USA. I don't believe there is much of an advantage for the host country, as all the countries that participate has an immigrant population in the united states.

Our region, on the whole lack basic facility and infrastructure to properly stage a tournament without having to run to the tax-paying public for financing. the USA, and to a lesser extent Canada and Mexico have the financial might to host...the caribbean doesnt.

Its much harder to play and win in places like san pedro sula in the middle of summer...in the USA i believe its a more level playing field for everyone.

30
It sounds like you are asking for the Sports Ministry to have direct input in the negotiation of international games on the federations behalf? It would seem very suspicious if that is the case...Id imagine the precedence would be that the sports Ministry would then be expected to have direct say in the running of other sports as well, cricket, track and field etc.

Let the TTFF do the negotiation and funding, finding sponsors etc...

But then, a guy who played football a couple years ago has been elevated to minister of sports in T&T...might be tempting to him to have a soft spot for football.
