Usual Jamaica.
Stodgy, lumbering and difficult to overcome in defense, not absorbing goals easily even against Mexico and USA.
However, unattractive, dull, boring, clumsy in attack and almost congenitally incapable of scoring more than 1 goal per six month period.
If there were a Caribbean all star team, probably no Jamaicans would qualify unless they had non Jakan or had Trini parerntage or were completely socialized outside of Jamdown like a John Barnes. Hopeless.
The only serious striker that I rated as homegrown from JA was that anger management needing cocaine addict who got busted in Hengland  and used to give T&T real hell in the Caribbean Cup.
His name  was ........ ahmm ....... Onandi Lowe. Since then ..... Nada other than British import Burton.
five of the players who played vs Serbia and Switzerland has left camp and return to their respective clubs. The players will be replaced by players mostly from Jamaica premier league.  The forward line for the Egypt and France games will likely comprise 19 yo Micheal Seaton of dc united and 20 yo jamar Loza from Norwich. 22 yo keeper andre Blake has been a standout so far in games vs Serbia and Switzerland, unfortunately he is one of the five that were recalled by their clubs.

This is an impressive assessment, to say the least. And to think that Lowe was better known as a defender.

Switzerland 1-0 Jamaica

Josip Drmic scored a late winner as Switzerland warmed up for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica on Friday at the Swissporarena in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Drmic, a half-time substitute, hit the winner in the 84th minute, finishing with the outside of his foot from Blerim Dzemaili's pass. Despite scoring only once, Switzerland finished with 26 shots, including six on target, per ESPN FC.

For Drmic, however, it was a third international goal in two friendlies this year, according to the Associated Press (via SFGate.com). He also scored twice in Switzerland's 2-2 draw with Croatia in March.

Drmic's offensive production will serve as good news for the Swiss as they continue preparations for the World Cup.

Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld's side earned a top seed for the tournament and were drawn into Group E with Ecuador, France and Honduras.

When they arrive in Brazil, the Swiss will be hoping to improve on their group-stage exit from four years ago. While France would apparently pose the greatest threat this time around in the group stage, Switzerland will look to record a positive result in a potentially tricky opener on June 15 against Ecuador, who will have the advantage of playing on their home continent.

Up next for Hitzfeld's side is a match at home to Peru on Tuesday. Peru lost 3-0 to England on Friday.

I
Agreed with Contro on this one. Jamdown done geh 1-0 then 2-0 from the Warriors. Go be even wuss next time.

I understand the optimism, and I also do agree that you have a coach in place now that seems to be doing the right things for T&T football. Like you, I am also cautiously optimistic about my team's chances moving forward, as I do believe we have a coach in place who can take us places.

I see games vs Argentina, Serbia, France, Iran, Switzerland, Egypt, Columbia possibility of two Caribbean teams playing in the Copa in 2016 and Jamaica getting an invite to the 2015 edition in Chile as opportunity for growth and good platform for launching 2018 qualification program for both T&T and Jamaica...I am certain Haiti, despite their predicaments, are looking forward to 2018 as well....so too the central Americans.

I seem to recall there being a Jamaica-specific thread.

In your haste ...

Anyhow, how many caps now is this for Simon Dawkins? He was sitting on his passport for quite some time before the JFF acted.

The moderators here do a good job merging the various threads where they belong...Im sure they will sort it out shortly.

hey Reggae Fan... i dont recognize much of the names there....can you shed some light on some players ??

4 or so from the domestic league, 4 or so from MLS, and another 4 or so from lower divisions in England.  Two players made débuts.  Goal scored by 18 YO DC united striker Michael Seaton , while 190yo Alva Powell marshaled the defense... both these players played recently vs T&T.  Team leaves for the European leg of the tour where they will meet Switzerland in Lucerne followed by Egypt in London then  France in lille on may 30, June 4 and June 8th respectively.  Team will be joined by a few additional  UK based players for the next couple games.

Serbia 2-1 Jamaica
May 26, 2014 Filed under Featured Posts, Men's Senior News, National Mens News, National News, News Posted by JFF

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz lost a spirited encounter with Serbia 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, USA.

Jamaica got off to a rocky start as they faces a crafty Serbian attack. Dusan Tadic scored the opening goal in the 13th minute with a skillful effort. Serbia kept the pressure on and Jamaica conceded a second goal in the 22nd minute as a result of a hard and low shot by Man City left back Aleksander Kolorov on a textbook overlap.

Jamaica made a handful of counter attacks to reassert themselves in the game but continued to find the final ball elusive. Goalkeeper Andre Blake made two crucial saves to keep the scoreline to two as the Boyz weathered Serbia’s attacks.

Jamaica made changes at the half which saw 18 year old Striker Michael Seaton replace Darren Mattocks. The half time team talk seemed to work wonders as Jamaica came out flying in the second half, putting Serbia on their heels. Jamaica’s resurgence was rewarded in the 53rd minute when Kemar Lawrence’s accurate cross found the head of the rising Michael Seaton who headed strongly past Stojkovic.

Jamaica looked for different ways to craft an equalizer as Captain Rodolph Austin tried to loop the ball over the Serbian #1 from a crafty short corner set play in the 58th minute. The effort narrowly looped over the bar.

Goalkeeper Andre Blake made key saves for Jamaica to keep Jamaica within one goal as Jamaica continued to attack.

Simon Dawkins went close to equalizing when he saw his effort whistle just above the crossbar in the 76th minute, much to the relief of the Serbians.

Substitute Hughan Gray bundled over Kolorov on the edge of the box to concede a penalty in the 87th minute. Kolorov stepped up to claim his brace but was denied by an agile stop from Goalkeeper Andre Blake.

The match ended 2-1, however, with an impressive second half display from the Reggae Boyz and strong performances from players such as Blake and Seaton, there are several positives to take away in a match against top draw opposition.

Jamaica look ahead to their next match which is against Switzerland on Friday, May 30th, in Luvern, Switzerland.

The nation will continue to support the Reggae Boyz and hope they can put on a strong display as they travel to Europe for the next few fixtures.

Serbia — Vladimir Stojkovic, Branislav Ivanovic, Aleksandar Jolarov, Nemanja Pejcinovic, Nemanja Gudelj, Nemanja Matic (Radoslav Petrovic 86th), Milos Tojic, Dusan Tadic, Lazar Markovic (Dusan Basta 60th), Zoran Tosic, Aleksandar Mitrovic (Filip Dordevic 69th)

Subs not used: Zeljko Brkic, Dusan Tosic, Radoslav Petrovic, Filip Dordevic, Stefan Mitrovic.

Jamaica’s starting 11 as follows:
#1 Andre Blake (GK)
#5 Alvas Powell (D)
#2 Upston Edwards (D)
#3 Lloyd Doyley (D)
#20 Kemar Lawrence (D)
#16 Chris Humphrey (M)
#17 Rudolph Austin (M)

Jamaica vs France on de 7th June .is Argentina our only friendly

When I saw France group I was hoping that they would have played us as a warm up for Honduras, but I guess they wanted an easier game  ;)

Word is that Argentina originally approached Jamaica for the game on June 4th...but because of the more lucrative deal put on the table by The French to host JA on June 7th (which would have been too close to june 4th), Burrell had to decline the offer from Messi and crew.  If you guys recall, last time Jamaica visited Buenos Aires, it took a 90th minute goal from Martin Palermo to break what looked certain to be a 1-1 tie (and certain firing of Diego Marradona, then coach). there was a promised return match...this was supposed to be it.

 ;)

just heard the news ............ so sad ......... condolences to Tappa and his family

Sad indeed. Whitmore himself escaped death in a motor vehicle accident that took the life of then Reggae Boy Steve Malcolm some year ago. Whitmore suffered serious injuries in that crash, but recovered.  Two other stalwart reggae boy Winston Anglin, and Peter Cargill also passed away in seperate motor vehicle accidents.

Hope they bring the politician responsible for this latest accident to justice (if in fact he was negligent)

One time rf answer this please. Minimum wage is what in Jamaica? And average land cost....lower and upper ranges.
Thanks.

Jamaica's annual minimum wage is higher than that of places like India, Mexico, Cuba, Honduras etc.

"...The National Minimum Wage was last increased in September 2012, moving from $4,500 to $5,000 per forty-hour work week. The minimum rates for security guards also increased from $6,655 to $7,320.50 per 40-hour work week..."

Security guards take home a minimum roughly US$73 per week, day-workers, household helpers etc around US$50 per week.

I get what Coops is saying. Jamaica is tinkering on bankrupcy and I read recently that things are so bad they're selling bread by the slice!!!

Jamaica Government might be tinkering on bankruptcy, that doesnt mean that the average man is so destitute he cant find $1000 (US $10) to go see a football match....40,000 people will easily pay that if the team is playing good football.

many, including yours truly didnt know what to expect from the Caribbean teams at the Gold Cup...but apart from Cuba, i think all the teams had a good run, particularly Martinique, and Haiti, who, self destruct in the end after good starts. T&Ts results below suggests a team that has some potential for further development moving forward...

1-1 tie with El Salvador
2-0 loss to Haiti
2-0 win over Honduras
1-0 loss to Mexico

I am of the opinion that none of the USA or Mexico will win this Gold Cup. Panama, Honduras or Costa Rica will take it home.

Whitmore and the JFF !@#$%^&* up Jamaica's world cup dreams, and now the JFF is attempting to pull a rabbit out of a hat with the signing of Schaefer. Lets see how he directs the troops vs Ghana next month in London.

134
... If they could assist with the Pro League, perhaps the league will be televised live by ESPN, Sky etc. They would probably love an exclusive deal for, say, £2 million. If we attract top Caribbean players from St Lucia, Grenada, Barbados etc ....

Brother, this type of thinking is a lil' naïve if you ask me. Sky sports showing T&T league games? ESPN? The best you can hope for from any mainstream media entity is a 30 minute highlight show....not sure how that would benefit the Government in the long run. The strategy of developing players solely for the purpose of earning foreign exchange is also not sustainable from a Government standpoint...likely these players will end up moving abroad for small fees. For instance, how much did Kenwyn Jones local club get when Jones moved to England? Remember these players go abroad relatively unknown, so they wont be able to command 1M pound fees upfront.

135
So T&T Government gets the blame for failure of a sporting body to attract sponsorships for its competition? Socialism at work?

I watch the jamaica game, and it's one of the best games i've seen jamaica played ever!! it was even better than the game they playued against USA in the office where they defeated the yanks. the game wqs so good that i goin and watch it again in a minute.  jamaica coulda win dat game hands down bc they caught mexico on about five counter attack that could have resulted in goal if they had clinical finishers like fuller and shelton.

I think the coaching staff got the tactics right for this game, but perhaps the biggest factor is this: Jamaica now has a very good defensive unit. Keeper Ricketts on his day is one of the better keepers in the region, and has years of experience, having gone to France 98 as Jamaica third string keeper.  Nyron Nosworthy, Adrian Mariappa are solid players, Jermaine Taylor is a mainstay in the Houston Dynamo defence and Demar Philips has also had a good 4 seasons at Aalesuns in Norway. The Midfield also now has two very rugged box-to-box type guys in Rudi Austin from Leeds united and Marvin Elliuot of Bristol City in the championship...very experienced players. Jobi McCanuf of Reading, what a player, very solid on the wings, and although he missed that early rebound off the post in his follow up shot saved by the goalie, he had a very solid game. Perhaps the area where Jamaica needs some reinforcement is in the area of attack. Jermaine Beckford formerly of Everton got injured just prior to the Mexican game and had to be pulled out, he probably is our marquee striker at the moment, although it sounds weird sayinjg that for a guy who has not yet made his debut. But all in all, I still believe this team is two or three players short of being a team that can take one of the 3 automatic spots. We play Panama next, anything but a victory here will put pressure back on the coach and players.

Good Luck with Panama, it will NOT be easy to beat them at all.

That fella Jobi Mc Canuf...is he the number 10?  he is an abortionist!  Real throw away specialist.  Good luck with he too.

Panama is a team that is well respected by Jamaicans in general, and by me in particular. That was a shocking miss from McCanuff, but credit has to also be given to the Goalie who pulled off an incredible save. I would have liked that chnace to have fallen to a player like Shelton...more than likley that would have been in the bag.

LOL. Piquone is unnatached, so he didnt return...yes, I stand corrected there.

To me, Martinique was the best looking team in the tournament...had they kept the same team that they had in the group stages, they would have easily won the whole thing...IMHO. They played a stellar opening game vs Cuba...winning that game.

Not sure if T&T did anything spectacular in the tournament...apart from that one game that you won to get into the semis. But its a good turn around for you guys...we are talking about a team here that went to world cup finals couple years ago...i think for the credibility of caribbean football, we all need to see your football back at the level where it competes with the best in CONCACAF. getting to the final of the caribbean cup is a good start. But, improvements are required if you hope to COMPETE at the gold cup. Yes, you have the players.

Yeah, my team got its ass kicked by teams you'd expect them to dominate...deservedly so.

What is the standing like in the second group? How is Jamaica doing?

Jamaica lost its opening game 1-2 to French Guiana, and is rooted at the foot of the table after one game....looking to rebound tonight against  Martinique and striker Frederic Piquone (yes, that Frederic Piquone, the man who played for France a couple years ago and West Ham recently) - Top class striker that. Any of the top teams in CONCACAF would take him in a blink.

ok fellas  let me say categorically  this joint head at this juncture is the most facked decision that was made , i was watching the game and to me it appears this shabazz one is the mouthpiece on the sideline , has hutson charles been reduced to second in command  what a facking shame anyways ah gone yes,

I dont know exactly if there is anything wrong with having two coaches...In fact Jamaica currently has Montesso and Theodore Whitmore has its two coaches for the past couple years, yes, one is head coach and the other assitant coach, but it appears to me they bith seem to be heavily involved in the coaching aspects and both are very visible and vocal on match-days. There is even a third guy involved...the Technacal director who is present at all Jamaicas games along with the goalkeeper coach, who is also very visible and vocal from the sidelines during games. Its not always about one individual...especially when that one individual is not all that experienced as in the case of Hutson Charles. "Joint Head Coach" - pretty way of putting it without disrespecting the incumbent coach Charles who is really now the assistant.

Anyway, Antigua has been a much improved team, a full strength Jamaica team went there for a world cup qualifying game earlier this year and came away with nothing, they also narrowly lost 2-1 (or something like that) to the USA. I watch the Dom Rep yesterday and saw a vastly improved team to the one that would normally lose 4-0 to the larger caribbean countries. The bigger teams in the region continues to get better marginally, while the smaller ones are improving at a faster pace...the field is more level now, and the smaller teams are more motivated to beat the bigger teams.

When last we see a 7-0 drubbing of any team in the caribbean or CONCACAF. I recall Jamaica used to go to places like Mexico and lose 6-0...Jmaica would drop 5-0 on teams like St. Kitts. Those days are NO MORE.

RF,people are only having a little friendly banter and we dont mean no malice and what is more important is that Jamaica is capable of coming back and beating both Cuba and Martinique, that I feel sure they will do,however I feel that we are in a precarious situation and may go out but I am hoping we beat Ant&Bar tonite.

These games will serve as good warm up for the Hex i believe for those players trying to keep their places in the squad. The defense is new, with the exception of captain Shavar Thomas (who will likely not even make the final squad for the Hex games)...Midfield lacked some steel also. These French players are better than average....I expect a tough game from Martinique, but with our backs against the wall now, and pretty much needing two victories to stand a chance, we have to go out and WIN. Too late to fire Whitmore now, but I think there is some leve of dissatisfaction in his player selection and tactics, and Captain Horace Burrell will be livid if we fail to advance to the Gold Cup at least.

Dem Jamaicans was boasting just the other day? Lol

Any Jamaican fan would expect Jamaica to defeat French Guyana (handsomely) in a one-off game. Likewise, any T&T fan would expect T&T to defeat Guyana over two legs. Any USA fan would expect USA to defeat Jamaica (and any caribbean team for that matter)...you catch the drift

Must win game coming up against a tough Martinique team lead by Frederic Piquone.
Lets see Jamaicas response.  WIN or go home.

Here we go again. I remember a couple years ago Cayman Islands shocked Jamaica in a Caribbean cup game, in fact they knocked us out of the tournament that year. We saw Antigua holding a full strength Jamaica team to a 0-0 draw in an away world cup qualifying game earlier this year as well.

But I'll tell you this, even when Jamaica won the tournament last year on penalties, they were pushed right down to the wire by Guadeloupe.  Was watching the Martinique v Cuba game last night and was surprised to see Frederic Piquone playing for Martinique...this is a top striker who has played for the French National team, and who, a couple years ago was a hot commodity for West Ham United in the EPL.

Jamaica's next opponnent just happens to be Martinique...Id say this is a tough game, and Whitmore will be a worried man next couple days. I am sure Captain Horace Burrell is not too keen on the idea of missing out on the Gold Cup...nor wold he be please if Jamaica returns home without the US$100K winners prize money.

Engineer at Antigua Recreation Ground tries to chase T&T senior footballers off the ground by driving his vehicle and parking where the session was taking place, forcing players to back off and remove their gears and equipment... his claim was no one was supposed to be using the facility while he and his workmen completed the installation of lights at the venue. The T&T team trained for 45 mins today.
This should be reported to fifa immediately! don't sleep on this TTFF, and if necessary antigua barbuda should be banned ASAP!!

file the report now!!

them antiguans is real cavemen, them and bajans are the most obnoxious and nasty ppl in the world, real hoggish and outatimin those people.

One would hope that a pronouncement from le nouveau president de la TTFF is forthcoming.

Dont know if anyone needs to be punished...seems more like a mixup in communication between the TTFF and the tournament hosts to me. I saw some huge cranes in the background...not a good idea to have players on the field in those conditions.  Assuming the T&T management team did their due diligence in communicating with the authorities and being cleared to use the venue at the time they showed up, then it would appear to be a break-down in communication between the authorities and the engineering folks....Did the authorities give the go-ahead for the t&t team to train at a venue that is being repaired and thus unsafe for training? Thats the question that needs to be answered. The engineer guy cannot take blame here...he did the right thing by requesting no training while his crew make the repairs..

Jermaine taylor don't look like no damn cookie monster!

i talking bout the big head byoi who used to play wid theiry henry, the one who came off the bench and saved allyuh world cup campaign.

LOL, you talking Dane Richards?  :D

Read Below.

------

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that midfielder Dane Richards has signed a contract with Burnley Football Club that will see him join the Championship League side following the conclusion of Whitecaps FC's 2012 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
Richards was acquired by Whitecaps FC last month in a trade with New York Red Bulls for striker Sebastien Le Toux as well as allocation money.

"Dane is in the final year of his MLS contract, so we knew there was a strong possibility he might get offers from Europe for next season," said Martin Rennie, Whitecaps FC head coach. "When we traded for Dane we received allocation money which is a valuable asset in our league. Dane will continue to be an important part of our squad as we push for a playoff spot, and we look forward to his contributions throughout the rest of the season before he starts with his new club Burnley FC."

"Burnley FC presented a good opportunity for me to play in Europe for the first time in my career," said Dane Richards. "At the same time, I am really enjoying my time with Whitecaps FC and will continue to work hard to contribute to the team's success as we move towards the post-season."

Richards, 28, joined Whitecaps FC on July 13, 2012 after five-and-a-half seasons with New York Red Bulls. So far this season he has started six of seven matches for 580 minutes, scoring two goals. Richards will join Burnley FC, based in Burnley, Lancashire, in January 2013.

This tournament will be an interesting one. Cuba and Antigua will want to prove to the rest of the region that their recent participation in the just concluded round of world cup qualifying, while disaappointing in the end, was not a fluke. They will want to stamp their authority on the tournament. How the hell guyana failed to advance is beyond me.

Trinidad: Dont know what to expect from you guys, but I expect that at some point the resurgence in your football will start to happen. Looking at your team, I cant say the names look awfully familiar to me...si I'm assuming you have a young team.  Would like to see a Ja T&T final...being a follower ofcaribbean football over the past decade, I understand the rivalry between these two...its been sadly missing for some time now...time for it to strat happening again on a serious level.

Jamaica: Lookng at the squad Jamaica is sending to this tournament...and the fact that at least 9 of these players have been heavily involved in WCQ games up to this point anmd will likely feature un the HEX next year, I'd expect them to at least be in the top four teams. with the JFF ringing in the changes and potentially new players in europe waiting to link up with the team for the Hex, I expect the caribbean cup squad players to go all out in an effort to impress for a place in the final Hex squad:

DWAYNE MILLER Sweden
LOVEL PALMER Portland Timbers
SHAVAR THOMAS MLS
DEMAR PHILLIPS Norway
JASON MORRISON Norway
JERMAINE HUE Domestic
KEAMMAR DALEY Preston north End
RICARDO GARDNER Unattached
TRAMAINE STEWART Aalesunds
RYAN JOHNSON Toronto
DARREN MATTOCKS Vancouver Whitecaps
OMAR CUMMINGS Colorado Rappids

Not sure what the French craibbean teams are doing, they are normally very dangerous teams, Guadeloupe pushed Jamaica to the wire in the last final.

Whahappen, like allyuh blank the cookie monster or what, how come he's not on the roster?

And who's "the cookie monster?" If ur talking about Jermaine Taylor of Houston, hes getting married this weekend so hes been excused from the tournament. Interesting enough, of the list of players above, only two are sure starters for the Hex. The others are fighting for a bench spot with the new players coming in and the others in England not called up.

The secret behind Trinidad and Tobago's football revival
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868.com)

Question: What is the most successful component of Trinidad and Tobago’s football at present?
Allow me to make it easier for you. The Trinidad and Tobago national men’s football team last won a Caribbean title eleven years ago in 2001 and has only played in one regional final since then.
In contrast, Trinidad and Tobago’s professional clubs have managed six Caribbean titles in that same period while, on four occasions inclusive of the 2012 edition, there were two local teams competing in the final.
So, again, exactly who is waving the flag for the local sport?
Next week, Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA coach Jamaal Shabazz will lead the “Soca Warriors” into battle at the 2012 Caribbean Cup finals in Antigua and Barbuda—he is joint head coach alongside interim appointment Hutson “Barber” Charles—after helping his club to the equivalent provincial title, just months ago.
Yet, some do not regard this as a sensible choice.
In 13 years of professional football on these shores, Shabazz is only the second coach to be promoted from the domestic club game after DIRECTV W Connection’s Stuart Charles-Fevrier.
Fevrier, a St Lucian who lived in Trinidad since he was a teenager, coached the Warriors for eight full internationals in 2003, six of which were away, and lost three.
Trinidad and Tobago was defeated 2-0 away to a full strength Moroccan team that, four months later, lost 2-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations final. It took a late penalty to defeat the Warriors in South Africa although T&T played the last 20 minutes with 10 men
And Fevrier had less than 48 hours to prepare for a hastily arranged meeting with Haiti while a conflicting local Cup game meant his team was so thin that Michael McComie and Trevor Nottingham, both in the twilight of their careers, were his goalkeepers. Haiti won 2-0.

Who are the clubs that play in the caribbean club championships, and what is the criteria for entry. When does this competition take place and how is it played? Home and away? Is it similar in structure to the Cariibena Cup where one country hosts it?

We eh talking Real Madrid or Man U here; imagine that same team national team call up one ah they national do you think they may delay the trials? come nah leh we be real here with  the availability of our best players

Are you for real? From the players (and his club's) perspective, what do you think is more important? Playing for T&T or making a living? If T&T decide to drop the player tomorrow, dont you think the player will need to still feed his family?
