Tom checks in with SWO; new coach vows to turn things around
INSHAN MOHAMMED    CREATED: 13 DECEMBER 2016

Saintfiet - I am a proud 'Soca Warrior.'

Soca Warriors Online (SWO) recently caught up with journeyman and T&T's new head coach Mr. Tom Saintfiet who seemed passionate and ready for the rugged road lying ahead despite the TTFA's ultimatum.

Tom Saintfiet was hired on a short-term contract as a replacement for former head coach Stephen Hart. What is really facetious is that Saintfiet's ultimatum from his new employers was quite forthright and predispose, “Win the next two World Cup games or you're out.”

After, speaking with the 43-year old one thing definitely stood-out. He seemed desirous to prove his critics wrong, win over the supporters and ready to tackle the dark unknown quest which awaits.

While not getting carried away, Saintfiet recognises that it will not be an easy assignment. However, he feels that his experience as a player and a coach as well as his decorated curriculum vitae will play a pivotal role and pull him through in the end.

Tom meanwhile, is a man of many languages which includes; Dutch, English, French, German, Faroese and basic knowledge of Arabic, Afrikaans and Spanish.

If I was Saintfiet, I would not pick any Central FC players going forward.

Sancho is a fool as always, for a former player he is really a idiot.

Central could benefit greatly from having their players play for the national team.

Saintfiet and the TTFA was willing to work with Central but Sancho thinks he is a big time manager in England.

Never liked him, even when he was MoS, what a fool he turned out to be.

If was me, I would forced him to beg the TTFA to pick his players.

A lot of us liked Hart but I believe he had reached his limit and couldn't take the team any higher.

Martinique literally knocked out out of the 2017 Gold Cup and Haiti eliminated us from the 2016 Copa America.

What have we accomplished under Hart?

Did you see the type of football we have been playing in the past year, some of the players lost confidence in him and he kept using the same team all the time.

People liked Hart because the way he carried himself but at the end of the day, results matters and same goes for everyone else.

I see nothing wrong with these 2 coaches.

They deserve a chance like everyone else.

I would love to see 2 local coaches on his staff as assistance.

Thank you Mr. Hart, you did the best you can, wish you good luck.

Would have been nice to see Hart take Brian Williams position as Under 20 coach as Williams don't seem capable.

But then again, the TTFA is one big happy nit family and only wants people they can control.

Sorry to see Hart go, but Fenwick is an excellent choice.

What sort of tactical approach do you envision him applying?

Solidifying the defence.

I at least gave them one point after two games !!!

69
I'm not comparing Shabaaz, because he was total crap. I just wanted to point out he was the one that named the squad.

More players get exposed even if they go aboard at least he would have options and would not be in the position he's in now.

Depth is needed.

Hart is good, but I believe he is not supported and is constantly under pressure by DJW and his crew.

Palos, two games is not enough to truly gauge players.

Mitchell, Marshall and bateau can play wing back, but yes, we shirt there, this is why Hart need games to help them discover and groom a few.

71
61 players and he only use 15 consistently.

Them fellas tired, unchallenged and unfit.

When Hart went to the 2013 gold cup, he did not name the squad, Shabazz already had named the team.

72
Hart sub the best player of the night (Caesar) for Plaza.

Plaza and Kenwyne can't create and depends on service and Hyland and Joevin had poor nights so how you expect us to score?

Then Marshall is was better than Cyrus.

We keep using most of the same players all the time.

Trinidad best passer of the ball is Boucaud and he didn't play.

73
This is the only way T&T will get better, I'll keep saying it.

Stephen Hart is not helping his case because of poor results and losing to Haiti and Martinique in important matches.

His faith in Cyrus will also be his downfall, anyone can see he is terrible at right back.

Bateau is suspended for our next games I think, now what?

Hart need to play friendly games, you cant play 1 game evry 2 months and expect the team to do well, especially when you have players that dont play regular. He needs to build a local team and give them exposure.

I agree our team really lack intensity. We need to pick up the pace. We need to play quicker. If they don't they will be run over by all the away teams. All we need to do is win and all the waggonist go be back on board. Winning is everything in the HEX. By the way both JA and Guat. got beat at home in the prelims.

Never said they didn't get beaten, they lost but teams had to work hard for it.

« on: November 13, 2016, 09:05:00 AM »
The way we playing we winning the Fair Play Award for sure.

No other teams in CONCACAF let teams feel so comfortable when they play them at home.

We give teams so much respect, look at the game against USA in T&T, we played them so soft and when we visited USA they teared us apart, they didn't hold back even though they didn't need to win.

Costa Rica were no better than T&T.

Stephen Hart commitment to Kenwyne and Cyrus leaves a lot to be desired for, it's like we are playing with 8 men on the field. Kenwyne isn't to bad and I know he can to much better, but Cyrus !!!!

Boucaud should start, he can pass very well and he is composed.

How can you be losing and bring on George?

Hart tactics seems like he is more concern about losing than winning.

I didn't care if we lost, but we can't play like we don't want to win.

You feel teams could go to Jamaica or Guatemala and dominate them?

I really do like Hart, but he seem to have lost the team or he is scared to go out hard because he might get embarrassed.

Better we try and fail than to don't try at all.

All I can say, is good luck, we still have a lot to play for even though we lost a home game.

The team is not a bad bunch of players and I know Hart is capable.

He needs to build the players confidence and his as well.

Good luck vs Honduras.

Mr Hart, we have confidence in you and we know you are a good coach, you have my 100% support, I know it's not easy, but go out there and push your players.

If Hart was the under 20 coach he would have gotten fired already.

Hope David John Williams taking note.

I know Williams have been his boy a while now, but he can't be happy with these results. One win and look at the teams beating us.

Love how Antonio Conte have Chelsea playing and how well the players are responding. I little believe goes a long way, sometimes ordinary players respond well.

I have my faults with Hart but at this point in time, he should not be fired.

Things he should consider.

1. Using some different players and weed out the senior ones who not pulling their weight.

2. Motivate the players better and be confident in himself and them.

3. We need a local core of players, we consistently picking foreign based players who do not play regular for their clubs. How can you put a team together every 2 months and expect them to play well?

4. He should consider really stepping up his search to strengthen his squad because it might be to late to unearth new talent. I know a few players not 100% sure, but I feel Hart could really sell his team to them and persuade them.

Players like Wright-Phillips, Sheanon Williams, Tyler David, Ryan Inniss, Shaquell Moore and Nick De Leon. These players will raise the attitude of the ones we have now because there are no competition for a place on the team. Hart keeps using 15 players, no wonder the team is playing flat.

We already got Bostock and time to get FIFA involved.

I hope to see Primus and Cummings back soon too.

Things could get better, but Hart have to act now, sit down with the FA and work things out.

If this idea was implemented a long time now, we would have found a few decent players by now. Of course, the TTFA have to make it happen.

Good going, but lets see who will actually be benefitting from it. DJW insist on sticking with the same people who worked under Warner, time to bring new life into T&T football, not just from the field, but the backroom as well as the coaching staff.
