Football / Re: The gap in CONCACAF closes.
« on: July 23, 2015, 09:57:30 AM »
From what I have witnessed from Jamaica, T&T and Haiti, we might be able to get 3 in the  Concacaf final round and 2 into the 2018 the world cup. Going to Jamaica, Haiti and T&T to play on their home turf won't be an easy task for countries like the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama. CFU will no longer be fighting for the .5 spot, they will also be fighting for the first 3 spots.  I think at this point, the 2018 world is wide open. Mexico, US, Costa Rica and Honduras are longer the automatic favorites to get in..

It still would not make sense because the 3 of the top 4 teams are already automatic qualifiers, The US, Mexico, Jamaica. Now if Panama won the whole thing, these 4 teams in the semi-final  will still be qualified..FIFA will still need to two more teams to complete the 6 teams that they intend to include in th eCopa

Warriors to face Haitians in Copa 2016
T&T Express Reports.

Trinidad and Tobago senior national football team will face Caribbean rivals Haiti for a place in the 2016 Copa Centro Americano.

The special 100th edition of the Copa, to be held in the United States next year, will see the senior national football teams of 10 South Americans nations, facing the best six in the CONCACAF region.

South America will be represented by Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador.

Already qualified from CONCACAF are Mexico (Automatic qualifier), the United States (Automatic qualifier/host), Costa Rica (2014 Central America champions) and Jamaica, as 2014 Caribbean champions.

The final two CONCACAF qualifiers will be decided by two playoffs among four quarter-finalist of the 2015 CONCACAAF Gold Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago, the second-highest FIFA ranked CONCACAF team not yet qualified, will face third-highest ranked non qualifier Haiti, while top-ranked non-qualifier Panama face whichever of Guatemala/Cuba or El Salvador also reached the Gold Cup quarters. The two series winners will join the other four CONCACAF teams in the competition.''

What if T&T or Haiti win the Gold cup.. will the they still have to play each other for spot into the COPA America or will they go to the next highest rank team

T&T should play soft time and try to lose to Mexico to avoid playing Panama. Im telling you guys, Panama is much much dangerous team than Costa Rica. In addition,  they won the last head-to-head friendly. They will be playing with confidence against you guys if you face them.

Well speaking of a stronger Caribbean, Suriname has started to change their eligibility laws. As of now it seems that those born in Suriname but moved to the Netherlands are now eligible but they are still working on changing the laws for those born in the Netherlands of Suriname descent. Coach Dean Gorre has stated though that the team will improve they will also struggle from the lack of funding that holds the rest of the Caribbean back. Here's his post yesterday.

I'm tired of Cuba getting a place in the Gold Cup every year and embarrassing the region. If they get the 4th carib qualifier for the gold cup you are looking at a situation where all nations can realistically go into the tournament with thoughts of making a deep run.

This might be surprising to you but believe it or not Cuba is not yet eliminated and can still get with a win today. In group A, Panama sits with 3 points and +0 goal, If Cuba win the game 9-0 LOL , they're in . They will have 3 points +1 goal and will win the third best spot over Panama and Guatemala

Thanks guys!
I almost had heart-attack in this game. The two best players walk away from the team  and return to France due to  disagreement with the coach.  One Key midfielder( current PSJ player and former Standard De liege, Jeff-Louis)  and key defense player( Jean Jacques Pierre). As you can see Haiti, had no midfield,  and couldn't play the way we did against the US. We really miss this due in the midfield. I was hopping that all 4 Caribbean teams made it in the second round but it looks like we're going to get 3 out of 4.

Off topics a little my fellow caribbeans. First, I would congratualte T&T on their safe and conving passage into the second round. Job well done!

I've been watching Gold cup since day I, I always felt  and believed in the past that Gold are made and set up for USA and Mexico to win it. This the first time watching the gold cup that I truly believe a Caribbean team can win it. After looking at Mexico(Last night) and the US VS Haiti and Honduras.. I really believe T&T and / or Jamaica can beat both teams in the semis as well as Haiti(if they make it in the next round). Wouldn't that be nice to see an all out CFU team Gold cup finals and Mexico  and the US out for the first time. I will even be happy to see, just a CFU team in the finals.

Don't you guys agree with me that a CFU team can win  it this year or at the very least has a best chance of win it more than ever..?

Isn't T&T playing a friendly against Haiti this Friday. I noticed no one mentioned that here and the site administrator set up no thread with the Header Haiti VS Trinidad. I guess Haiti is not worthy of an opponent to talk about or may be you guys are not taking Haiti as serious opponent for a friendly before the GOLD cup or simply no one cares about this game...

Interesting article on the rise of CONCACAF conference in soccer

Long gone is the time when the nets of the best teams of CONCACAF were simply used for target practice by European and South American teams. Watching the goalkeepers picking up the ball from the back of the nets was a common scene. Fortunately, CONCACAF has risen to become a force that no other confederations can look down upon.

In 1974 at Munich, Poland mercilessly pulverized Haiti 7-0. In 1978, Mexico was lucky to escape the wrath of the like of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Heinz Flohe of West Germany with a 6-0 defeat; in 1982, Hungary massacred El Salvador 10-1 in Spain; in 1990, Czechoslovakia severely punished USA 5-1. Scores like those were considered normal for the minnows we were. Despite some spotty good showings of teams like Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, and Honduras, CONCACAF was generally considered the Cinderella of the world cups, a status they shared with Oceania and sometimes Asia. However, gone is that time when a representative from the CONCACAF region was considered a weak team. CONCACAF football is now at a level where the top 10 teams of the region can hold their own against the traditional powerhouses.

In 1998, their only World Cup appearance thus far, Jamaica became both the smallest nation to score in and the smallest nation to win a World Cup match. Their appearance wasn't spectacular, with a 3-1 loss to Croatia and a 5-0 thumping from Argentina, but they did beat Japan 2-1 in their final game. Jamaica's success with such a small population and such limited resources is impressive. They made it to the final stage of CONCACAF qualifying in this past campaign (one stage further than Canada got), but finished last in the hexagonal round.

Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, its first-ever qualification for the tournament. They became the smallest country to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2006, succeeding Haiti for the title. In Germany, Trinidad and Tobago was grouped with England, Sweden and Paraguay in Group B. The team earned some international respect after a draw with Sweden in their opening game and managing to hold England scoreless for 83 minutes. Trinidad and Tobago finished with their first-ever point from World Cup play after finishing 0–1–2 for the tournament.

In 2013, Haiti took Spain and Italy to deep waters in two high profiles friendlies in Brazil. Spain was pushed to the limit to hold on to its meager 2-1 lead while Italy was lucky to escape with a 2-2 draw. Those results were a prelude to what happened at the World Cup of 2014 where Costa Rica won its group undefeated and in style beating former world champions Italy and Uruguay. USA and Mexico also posted high profile victories over respectable gatekeeper teams like Cameroun, Ghana, and Croatia. CONCACAF was the third most successful confederation behind UEFA and CONMEBOL.

Interestingly, CONCACAF teams keep rising to surpass themselves. In recent international friendlies, CONCACAF teams dominate their opponents from various confederations. On March 27, Haiti traveled to China where it forced the host to work hard for a 2-2 draw while Jamaica overpowered Venezuela with a 2-1 victory. Paraguay, a respectable contender from CONMEBOL, was lucky to escape the Ticos with a 0-0. The following day, El Salvador traveled to the lion den in Argentina where the Cuscatlecos delivered a great fight against the several times world cup titlist and runner-up at the last world cup before losing 2-0 but Mexico quickly brushed that aside with a 1-0 win over Ecuador. Therefore, in two days CONCACAF teams registered 2 victories, 2 draws, and just 1 defeat versus CONMEBOL teams.

The rise of super teams capable of taking on the world traditional powers in all three regions of the confederation will certainly lead to more entertaining and competitive Gold Cup and World Cup qualifying tournaments. In the Caribbean, teams like Jamaica, Haiti, and Trinidad are no-pushovers whereas Central America is home to giant killers like Costa Rica, Honduras, and El Salvador. North America features Mexico and USA, two teams highly respected outside the confederation. The level of play and  player skills at the latest U-20 tournament in Jamaica were very remarkable. We have had a glimpse at the stars of tomorrow and we saw them in every team of the tournament. In fact, each country features a number of brilliant youth players who would be on the short lists of any European or South American teams. It is safe to say that CONCACAF football will continue to rise.

I agree with frico here , the Jamaican  fans and media are way over too confident. They are very insulted by the tie and they should be fortunate to come out with that tie. They coul have esily lost that game. , Antigua, Haiti an Martinique are still in the hunt and very much alive. They did predit 3-0 , 4-0 win against Martinique, Now they're predicting they're going to rain goals on Antigua .... Let us see what happen tomorrow.

Are those rankings correct? Is Antigua really the #1 in the Caribbean?

On paper Antigua is not the number one team and not even  number number 2. The number one team in the Caribbean right now is Martinique followed by French Guiana based on last 10 games wins /losses ( Both undefeated in last 5 games). Teams in the CFU  such as Guadeloupe, French Guiana,  Martinique, Bonaire etc..are  not ranked because they are not  Members of FIFA. If Martinique and French Guiana could be ranked, Antigua wouldn't have been the number team in the CFU.  Here is how Antigua got to be number 1 in the Caribbean right now:

The number 1 spot more often than not usually occupied by Jamaica, Trinidad , Haiti and Cuba.

Jamaica  is win-less in the last 5 games (1-2 VS Serbia, 0-1 VS Switzerland, 2-2 VS Egypt, 0-8 VS France and 1-3 VS Canada)
Trinidad Winless in the last 2 games ( 0-3 Vs Argentina,  0-2 Vs iran)
Haiti winless in the last four games (0-1 vs Salvador, 1-4 VS Korea, 0-0 VS Kosovo, 0-1 VS Chili)

Cuba does not / rarely play friendlies. They're only active in tournament so they can never hold on to the number spot even though they won it last year.. Antigua won 3 straight in their CFU conference and all three teams being FIFA Member, that helped them immensely in the ranking.

Next week will be reality check for the number one team in the Caribbean. Their fans all over social media  bragging about being number 1 in the Caribbean. Well, next week, It will be time for their coach and players to put up or shut up. Stay tune!

If I remember Antigua knocked out Haiti last world cup qualifiers?

If I remember correctly Haiti knocked out Antigua at home in the last CFU qualifier in front of their crowd and also did beat them in Haiti in the same world cup qualifier....AM I RIGHT CDR?

There is nothing to see in this rounds. We have always dominated these rounds, always. We even managed to avoid the stiffest competition in Haiti and Jamaica.

Next rounds is what we looking for.

Great job.
Well you did not manage to avoid Haiti or Jamaica. You will be facing Haiti/Jamaica for the women CFU title before the next round. The team that finishes first from group A will face the Winner of group B and the Second from group A will face the second from group B. So any way you cut it, you'll face Haiti or Jamaica for first , 2nd or even possibly both teams if you play for a third place finisher
