case in point arsenals goal against manu the reff was back to goal facing arshavin surely that hindered the defense and assisted arshavin

If anything, he shouldve been closer to that play so that he couldve seen the first tackle that was deserving of at least a yellow card and definite penalty.

Concacaf defenders must be some real beasts of burden

Lower center of gravity maybe? But them same Central American defenders does out-jump him, and hustle him off the ball whole game.

Football / Re: LA's Birchall ready to contribute
« on: September 18, 2009, 02:51:02 PM »
If I was coaching the national team Birchall would be a fixture in my lineup.  With the exception of Carlos Edwards his work rate on the field for T&T is unmatched.

It was sickening to see him under utilized by the two coaches we had for this failed campaign.

I think that is a keen observation that has gone under the radar.

In WC06, Beenie got hell for not playing Latas earlier than the last 15 minutes of our final game. The difference Latas made vs Paraguay - had he been able to replicate it (if given the opportunity) could have made the difference between a favourable result with England, and maybe sneeking a bigger upset over Sweden.

.. however, wrt Birchall - we can blame the defence all we want, but if our midfield could have kept the ball, and given proper service to our strikers (as we did for 70 mins in the first game in ES) we could have probably still been in contention. Just as we missed Stern up front, I think we missed Birchall even more in the middle.

nice. Me Mum will be 29 when he experiences his 2nd World Cup in a TT uniform, and 33 for his 3rd trip. Good age to be captain too. The U-20s should be between 22-24 in 2014 and 26-28 for 2018.

We sticking with Latas and Yorke at the helm.

Plently of opportunity for continuity.

all in all, I personally don't think it was that bad of a result ... but a loss is a loss.
An earlier post (think it was Flex's masterpiece) gave Vranes' track record with the team and the win-loss ratio, as well as GF-GA ratio was shameful.

seems like some of the complecancy spill over from the Senior Team to the U-20s.

Fellas was taking win in seeing TT seniors lose, but playing better ball under Latapy.
Now we taking win in that we didn't get more than 2 from the Aussies.

Football / Re: REVOLUTION
« on: September 17, 2009, 06:45:15 PM »
The revolution is gonna come from UEFA. They will in a little bit break away from FIFA and have support of all of Europe. The bad thing about this will be that Federations like ours and Africa will suffer.

UEFA will not even sanction a breakaway super league for the big boys from England, Spain and Italy ... you think they going to tell FIFA fire bu'n and buss it?

You underestimate the relationship between Sepp and Platini

39
precedent has already been set in a case - not quite similar - but one where an outsider challenges the incumbent.

See the Concacaf elections where I believe it was a member from St. Kitts (??) who challenged for a Concacaf post, and was forthwithly banished from football.

I think there are several threads at the moment clammering for change, but all those in the opposition to the current administration are lacking sound ideas, detailed plans, names and faces.

Blindly considering the question of the thread, my main question would be who in the local private sector has the funds available and is willing to use it to purchase the franchise from JW ?

Besides the physical assets of the TTFF, the buyer would have to compensate them for goodwill and any intrinsic value built into the brand. They would then have to purchase the rights to use terms such as the trademarked Soca WarriorsTM, captain's armband, and a slew of different unforseen expenses.

Secondly, the change in ownership would most likely come an increase in wages for the employees - and in this case, the most valuable ones, ie, the players on The Senior Team. Wages, Travel, Per Diem, Insurance. If the new administration plans on clearing house and starting fresh - they would need to hire experienced, or at least capable hands, and that will come at a premium.

Thirdly, rental of local facilities ... or as many have previously suggested - construction of the TTFFs own facility, eg. Wembley in England.

These are just some of the obstacles that they will face - and we're not even talking about profit and revenue streams to offset the costs. You might think that part is easy ... but what happens when our product is poor on the field and we can't attract a sellout stadium?
Or when you can't even market replicas etc, because fans attending the games are of the mindset that it's nicer to rock a Man U, Arsenal or Liverpool jersey to the game instead of purchasing a TT shirt.

... so - who has a plan again?

TTFF Statement Re Under 20 trio
All players were also allowed to maintain possession of  their kit bags, training uniforms , track and lounge suits as well  as their casual wear, contrary to claims made by Morris who is the uncle of Jevon Morris

Come Clayton, the ball is in your court now.

Silvio Spann anyone?   Did he even travel with the team in Germany?

Whoa!! Talk about precedent being set.

But that said this nation like to cuddle, pet, pamper and powder and we LOVE to reward mediocrity.

Same thing I was thinking as I was going through the posts. In the US Pro Sports system, too many times we see young players throughout various schools who are pampered and allowed to get away with any & everything, and are accomodated by posses of handlers and yesmen - then once they're left on their own, they find themselves in a world of trouble, viz Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, Eddie Griffin just to name a few ... and while mediocrity might be a bit harsh, it drives home the point, that if you can't make the grade - hometime!

Where exactly does it stop?

 :beermug:

Had we possessed a  system evidencing integrity from top to bottom, my perspective on this matter likely would be different.

Integrity assumes a set of morals, and since everyone's morals tend to differ - then once this trio is allowed to make the trip, as Palos correctly asks ... "where exactly does it stop?"
If by saying that Morris' statements carry higher meaning, in that, the TTFF and its directors lack morals, and by way lack integrity - that's probably a different arguement for one of the many threads on the first page of the forum.

These guys need to learn from this, and use the feeling of pain & disappointment as a motivator...tell themselves that they never want to experience this feeling again, and hence give their all day in day out, both on & off the field...and hopefully the attitude will transcend into other aspects of their lives.

I wish we could use this rationale for some of the members on the Senior Squad.

Football ,like life is full of dissapointments, and the sooner these young men learn this, the better off they would be.

I like Pep and the style that he brings to Barca and the game, but he needs to stop being a little b!tch and stop complaining.

Here are his post-match comments:
Quote
“It is never easy playing against Italian teams but I’m very proud we tried to win the game. We lacked a bit of precision”

In saying that "I’m very proud we tried to win the game" ... he's echoing the same sentiments after the first round in this past CL semis at Nou Camp ... and saying that "It is never easy playing against Italian teams" is indicative that Italian teams tend to set up shop, and are more defensive. His/ Barca's style doesn't work for every team - and teams do not have to play his interpretation of the beautiful game to win.

Then compare it to Mourinho's:
Quote
“From the bench I saw two teams with great respect for their opponents, two teams well-organised in defence who gave little away .... In the second half Barca were better than us. Barca are the best team in Europe, not just the champions. An Inter under construction have done very well. If we scored we would have won but without deserving it.”

No wonder Mourinho is The Special One.

TTFF bill for debate soon
T&T Newsday

The TTFF may, from time to time, make rules for the proper conduct of its proceedings and discharge of its duties, powers and functions, and such rules may be amended from time to time as the Federation may deem fit and expedient.

The aims and objectives of the TTFF are to regulate and control the conduct of football in Trinidad and Tobago, under the auspices of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)

Oliver Camps has been the TTFF president since 1992 while Jack Austin Warner, a vice-president of FIFA and Chaguanas West Member of Parliament (MP) is the TTFF’s special advisor.

This is all you need to know.  ;)

well done Ambassador Stern ... don't know Stern's intentions with regards to his club career, but maybe this can be an indicator that he can start doing some player scouting & recruiting for his partners Latas and Yorke.

well done Thomson. Welcome. Bring some defenders, if you know anymore willing to come.
... even well done to Jack. Real quite these days - even with budget reviews in high circulation. How you let Panday coughing upstage your stuttering?

Let's see how this experience that they entire team will benefit from, as well as a new level of preparation and professionalism - and not to mention, a much wider player pool will benefit us when we launch the campaign to 2014 at the end of this U-20 tournament.

time to start is now!!

« on: September 07, 2009, 01:52:48 PM »
That US Scholarship thing also KILLS our footballers. Too many good plays fall into that Death Trap and by the time they are finished, their football game has been worse off. They never develop and that US College is at A VERY POOR level. 15 - 20 yrs ago, the level was better. But now, it's utter garbage.

Had KJ gone to college, he would have never been able to play in the Premiership and make millions of dollars! I don't advise any young, promising TnT footballers, esp those from the Under 20 squad to fall in that death trap, cause your chances of making it as a REAL pro would be finished.

I myself played in that college and it's the WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!!!! When u don't know better, u suffer

Shaka Hislop went to college.
So did Brent Sancho & Avery John.

... and they turned out to be ok.  :-\

Football / Hunting for seats - T&T Newsday

Hunting for seats
PETER O'CONNOR
Sunday, September 6 2009

Today, I think we are celebrating. I am going really bold, as I write this on Thursday, and claim victory over Honduras in the match we played there last night. I feel confident enough in the team to say this, and I will take the consequences should my confidence be in vain.

The “consequences”? Well, we all know that we have people who will relish a disappointment provided it gives them the opportunity to crow over you: “Dah side eh good! It serve allyou right because…!” You know the ones I mean, always there to pull down, never to experience pride. I remember one such, back in 2005. After we beat Guatemala here 3-2, to get back on track for Germany, we went to Costa Rica. We lost 0-2 over there, and after we returned, I was on the savannah, when I was accosted: “Ocano, you feel ‘that side’ could still go Germany?” Of course, I replied, to which he responded with an expletive. Two months later, on the flight back from Bahrain, I suddenly smiled to myself. My mind ran on that individual, and I wondered what he was doing? Probably dancing in St James, I thought, proclaiming his support for the Warriors!

So, why am I out on a limb this week, saying that as you read this, we will have beaten Honduras last night? Because we can! Simple as that! And if we know we can, I believe we will.

We have not met Honduras often in World Cup qualifying, but when we have played them over there, we have done well. In 1988, in the first round of qualifying for Italy, the Strike Squad met Honduras at the Oval and battled to a goalless draw. The return match in Honduras saw us draw 1-1 on Hudson Charles late goal, and we qualified for that famous final round on the away goals rule. We did not meet Honduras again until 2001, in the qualifications for Japan Korea. We lost at home, but went to Honduras, and with nothing to play for, beat them 1-0 there, dumping them out of the World Cup Finals. So, I say we can go there and beat them again. I know they have beaten both Costa Rica and Mexico at home already this year, but I still say we can beat them, and history is on our side.

So, are you celebrating this morning, as the Warriors are flying back home to take on the United States at Hasely Crawford on Wednesday? But more to the point—was your faith powerful enough to have sent you to buy your match tickets before now? Or are you only now hunting for tickets?

And this brings us back to the still incomplete works at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, where after spending over 20 million dollars on the VIP Room and special new seats—180 of them, the playing field has still not been touched, and the car park area is mass of crumbling asphalt and deep potholes. This just tells us where the concerns really lie. Special seats for carefully chosen guests, but nothing to maintain the playing surface for our footballers.

Of course, Mr Hunt’s “huffing” of all those prime seats cut deeply into potential revenue for the Federation, and also deprives major sponsors of the seats they were accustomed to using. I would like to feel that Mr Hunt’s chosen friends, certain Ministers and certain Parliamenta-rians had some sort of claim to these special and upgraded seats because they were such patriotic leaders. But this hope was shattered when I saw the Newsday photo last Tuesday showing all the empty seats at the VIP Stand for the Independence Parade. Where were all the government ministers and their wives, please? Surely 180 of Mr Hunt’s chosen people should have turned up to attend the Independence Day parade? Or can it be that Mr Hunt (I did not see him in the Independence Day Stand ) is really seeing football as being more important than …? Let us not pursue that.

The trouble is that I truly believe that a victory last night will see Gary Hunt’s Gallery chock full of his selected friends, drinking and eating more than supporting the team. However, if the result is against us, I expect Gary’s Gallery to look like the viewing stand on Independence Day. What do you think?

And a word of advice to Gary: Try and get your list of friends to Mr Warner today—Jack will be at work. We don’t want to know that Jack is hunting for tickets at the last minute to accommodate those whom you have excluded.
