The State of Libya already owns a portion of Italian Club, Perugia, where the son of Muammar Gaddafi briefly played.

URGENT HELP

any channel on DIRECT TV showin TnT vz Honduras ???..please please please

not sure, but check the local US-based Spanish stations ... if you have no luck with that, try Setanta PPV.
If none of that work, you might have to hook up the computer to the tv, and look for it on atdhe.net

And ah just hear The Fearless One reporting that Latapy have the players walking around the city to get used to the cheers and boos from the Honduran fans.....now that's what's called intimidation....

nice - just once the players safe. You know how some of those Central Americans can go overboard.

I think this is one of the little things that Latapy brings to the table as a coach with his unqiue experiences as a player.

Hopefully this will add fuel to the fire, along with the ridiculous training-ground antics of the Hondurans, as well as the comments in the press.

D Ministry have a policy which is a guide plus dem prestige school have more freedom 2 operate. As 4 being  paid it is under d table so unless u prove it nutten eh preventin dem from gettin scholarship. KJ from south and went Anthony's. It goin on forever.

When Pantin was Min of E he stop d 1001 repeatin so dem boi gettin 1 repeat if dey cyah reach 6 form standard.

with regards to importing players - all the "big" school doing that years now. it is go on in all sports all around the world e.g. american NCAA football and even high school basketball. how you thing miami high school was a powerhouse in the 90s? with cubans from the area it was in or imports from the hood to the north of miami-dade county?

If this is the case locally, don't you think sooner or later someone is going to complain that players are being exploited by these prestige schools? .... and when that can of worms opens - who are we going to blame then?

Yuh tink Leonson Lewsis d pass 4 Naps? Is donkey yrs dey findin nuff black boys 2 play 4 dem. If dem want 2 go Naps and eh use 2 academic opportunity well dat is their buziness.

There have been innumerable times on this forum that the question of East Indian involvement in football has been brought up. Well in this case you have a predominantly East Indian school that lacks a quality/ competitive starting XI from their student body, so they go out and get the best transfers available to them. The incoming tranfers and their parents should be congratulated on grabbing the academic opportunity afforded to them/ their sons ..... but then the onus falls on the administrators. Are they ensuring academic standards are maintained, is it football/ winning they really care about - and what about developing the rest of their student body?

Makes me wonder - how long, and what exactly is it going to take to get the proper authority/ Ministry to investigate what is going on in several schools with football transfers. There have been rumours for a very long time about players being paid to play for certain schools. Some players even travel ridiculous distances, or relocate from places like Tobago, to attend school in south. Hopefully these kids know that getting paid to play makes them a professional which sounds nice, but it also disqualifies them from acquiring a scholarship to play abroad. So maybe if they know that, they might shush and take their payment and play their football quietly, instead of boasting that certain schools pay them to play.

game ended 1-1.

Here's an account of the match: http://www.presfootball.com/news/pres-come-from-behind-to-draw-opener.html

First half was an even encounter. Second half started evenly, but Naps had the lion's share of the possession, and many more opportunities. Before they had scored their questionable goal, the could have been about 2 up, if not for some excellent goalkeeping, and some dedicated defending. While Pres had less chances, they had clearer chances and could have put the game away before Naps started throwing everything at them.
Was disappointed the game was played on a hard Guaracara surface. Didn't even look like it was watered because the players were kicking up dust - and it was hot like hell yesterday. Apparently Saturday's Pres vs Benedict's encounter will also be held at Guaracara at 3pm.

Watch out for #10 from Pres, Kevin Moodie - ran all game, had good touches, no-one wanted to mark him, and when they did - he made them regret it.

One burning question from this game though. Naps has zero players of East Indian decent on their team or the bench - and while I don't know the exact percentage, the majority of that school's demographic is East Indian. What's the cost of winning these days?

Coming back to Steven Khan's article - what comes first in secondary school? Academics or Football?

recently the heat seems to be risings why we do play d Yankees in d 12 o clock hot sun  with a more local based squad and see what will happen in stead a d night when they does look sleepy in the second half

and Donovan and them might get some sun burn

wasn't that the tactic for Nov 19th, 1989?

Now I havent looked at the video.

But I have a question to pose to all and sundry.

Here we have a foreigner...attacking a powerful politician, the FIFA VP and the man who controls our football. He plays an important role...like him or not in our country.

Imagine Jennings relaunched his book here in TT a few weeks ago and got press coverage and a cocktail party.

Now what other country in the world would have an outsider attack a citizen of such prominence and do nothing about it.

It seems we celebrate Jennings attacks.

In most other places they would have shut down jennings long time.

The point I am making is that we do not protect our own...no love for our fellow citizens.

Or is it nobody could touch him or stand up to him and is bess we let a balding crimple up man fight the battle on our behalf.

protect we own, fuuck he, ah tiefin, lyin, cheatin, rat bastard, I say again fuuck he, an' he's ah fuuckin bully too, leh haul he c**t an' take he pressure, come nah man touches, u self, wrong doin is wrong doin !...........fuuck he

sigh ... you realise that by not calling Jack name in that post, you make a generalisation that just implicate every government and opposition minister?

reporters in sweet democratic T&T aren't even allowed to ask probing questions to our hallowed Prime Minister without feeling his wrath or constant threats of censorship. A Newsday reporter (Indian too) lost his job for asking the right question at the wrong time.

.... well imagine if a white foreign reporter ask him questions. Is then he might pull off the mask and we might see Mugabe underneath.

just saw that. The fine is around 1M quid.

Good thing Chelsea has a solid squad this season - very deep at critical positions, and have signed up most of the key players to longterm contracts.

witch hunt is on for the EPL clubs, with Sepp & Michel pulling all the strings - first Eduardo & Arsenal, now Chelsea.

well since Man U is well noted for tapping up players from other clubs, 'arry can't keep his mouth shut about other teams players ... this could be an interesting precedent.

what will happen of the RM pursuit of CRonaldo prior to this past offseason?

Please be advised that the venue for the first round of fixtures, that is St. Benedict's vs Vessigny and Presentation vs Naparima have been CHANGED to GUARACARA PARK.
The games will begin as scheduled at 3pm and 5pm respectively. Once again the games will NOT be played at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, rather they will be played at GUARACARA PARK.

I sure Latas and them fully aware of all the clown antics going on - seems nothing more than some gamesmanship and intimidation coming from the local Honduran press.

Hopefully our players will use this as further motivation on Saturday. Nothing will shut up the Hondurans faster and a cool 3-0 whipping from us.

No surprise that insecure PNM apologists would see this as some sort of racist attack on a white foreigner
Trust on a bit of journalistic sensationalism to brand this as JW screaming racist insults ... I watched it a few times, and still can't find the racist attack - unless everyone's seeing a Robert Mugabe speech instead.

It's interesting to look at who our leaders form their allegiances with to hold on to power:
Jack Warner chose a white corporate dictator, Sepp Blatter to solidfy his position and alliance.
Patrick Manning chose a black Muslim terrorist, Yasin Abu Bakr to politically intimidate voters and win elections.

These days the most disparaging accusation you can make against someone is calling them a racist. It's pretty much the ultimate response to playing the race card. But then again, you see much more mischievous, intentionally racist and incitful statements being made on this forum - in many cases against Indians in TT. But that's ok, they're probably not coming from a white person, so those statements can never be justified as being racist. Gosh, don't even get started on white people, and all the perceived wrongs they've done to foreign nationals abroad.

... and while it's alarming at the shocking accusations of corruption that JW cannot deny, let alone his conviction and petty fine over WC 06 tickets - there is so much more blatant corruption under the present PNM administration, with their supporters turning a blind eye, and at even more ridiculous levels that UNC and their cohorts couldn't even fathom that makes you wonder if UNC should have thief more than they did.

....to add to this, how come most trini players in the US recruited by NCAA D2, D3 or small D1 programs.

very few in powerhouse D1 programs.

I honestly don't know the answer - but I could make a good guess.

US University Scouts have a very limited budget to work with. Soccer does NOT bring in sponsorship money, gate revenue and merchandising like US Football and basketball - Even in the bigger D1 schools.

Unless we (hint) invite them here, they're not going to come this far to see players who, in the majority, are less developed than those in the continential US.

Again, that we that I hinted at would/ could comprise MOS, MOE, SSFL and sponsors to hold something similar to how US Universities showcase their NFL prospects for professional teams. Having individual secondary schools put together scouting tapes of their own players for use by interested universities is another way for us to help them, to help us.

I think another part of it has to do with what I mentioned earlier regarding the anxiety to accept the first scholarship offer that comes in the mail, as well as students leaving school earlier to take up football schols and not completely developing their academics and football talent. Most US scholarship recipients will comb through a stack of mail with various offers - and while that is not a luxury afforded to all, especially those here - there is nothing wrong with waiting to see if other offers come in.

One other thing, is that for football you don't always get a full ride through university. I had many friends on the Football team that only had partial scholarships, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see soccer players only getting partials for tuition only - and these days, room & board can cost as much as tuition.

Good point acb but here is where the problem lies....and its killing our football too...who are the people advising these fellas?? All these fellas know is that dey name in d papers every weekend like some celebrity, when they go to school they being treated the same way by teachers and at that point they think they reach!! Until they reach up here and see differently. That's why you see alot of these guys come up here for a year...maybe 2...and end right back on d block back home and then men go come on the board and boast how "boy dat fella was ah boss back then" blah blah blah!!! So that's why our already small pool of players become even smaller! :beermug:

gotcha, I've seen alot of guys fail right out of 1st year due to academics.
Football is the only thing some of them know, and they've been babied and spoonfed throughout Secondary School always getting mysteriously high grades - it's been going on forever, and it's rampant in US High Schools. Just look at the controversy surrounding Memphis Mens' BB Team.

The problem with the advice given to these kids is that it comes from people with zero experience with the US collegiate system - and that's not from a footballing level, but from an admissions and academic level. I believe that some kids jump at the first offer of a scholarship - and I think that is where their local coach, parents and school principal needs to come together and evaluate the offer and overall situation.

I think it's an initiative that the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sports can collaborate with the SSFL and their sponsors. These four entities should have a forum or lecture that is mandatory for all footballers and schools registered in the Senior and Championship Level to attend so they can get the proper information. It doesn't all need to be in the same place at the same time. Have it on a zonal basis, and have it in the preseason, and make it mandatory. Footballers find the time to practice over the Jul-Aug vacation, so they can easily take a couple hours off and attend something that will probably be just as important as what they put out on the field. The footballers do alot for the standing and perception of their schools, and they also pave the opportunity for other local students in their respective secondary schools to get some recognition and land academic scholarships.

Anyone has any idea how many Trinis go abroad each year from SSFL to take up schols in the US and elsewhere?

I know there was a thread or section that tracked it, but I believe there are probably more players out there than we know about, especially since there's always talk about expanding our player pool.

It also seems like a decent percentage of the students who leave on football scholarships don't really take the football aspect of the scholarship too seriously - and you really can't fault them for that.

It would be nice to know how many local students we have playing in various NCAA divisons and what schools they play for. I've less than a handful of Trinis in the Big East and the ACC ... but not too aware of who plays for what schools. Only if I happen to stop in for a game at the alma mater and pick up a game sheet that I may see a local player.

Would be nice to know of local players and where their games are in advance - especially those in playoffs, and stop by to lend some home support.

Funny thing that got me thinking about this - overheard this convo earlier of this kid who's been out of school for over a year after CXC and was almost boasting of not needing A Levels for his scholarship .... kinda wondering if he does have a schol in the first place.
- and while you really don't need As, I would think it woul be smarter to advise these kids to stay in school for As, sharpen up your SATs and GPA, get stronger, fitter and more experienced - and then use all that to land yourself in a school of higher academic standing, in a more competitive division. It's 2 years worth the sacrifice.

I know naps was the dominant team of the era but I really didn't process that is 6 years in a row now.

I had sympathized with many elements of Steven Khan's article but clearly something has to be done about this situation.

boy...that does reallll hurt me consdering how toots they was in the 90s when we were there...my lil bro had to suffer thru pres getting demoted and all...oh well, let's see what the season has in store

well I was in Pres in the 90s when Naps get demoted - and the year they came back up from Senior grade to Championship, they were on course to get demoted again .... if it were not for TUTTA striking and ending the season prematurely.

It have PLENTY Naps men on here that will deny those days.
