Well that stir up an ants nest... ::)

I will take it as someone's point of view, that has been influenced by their personal disappointments and grasping for a positive elsewhere, hence the supposedly silver lining being "education" and condemnation of everything else

The fact is that if what you're saying is not without some percentage of truth, but having about 5% truth dont make it the whole truth and factual or realistic.

You seem to not really understand that for youths and seasoned players to make it in developed leagues, they are competing with tremendous obstacles which is not always football...we talking about various prejudice, politics, economics and basic loyalties...T&T produces very good talent (mostly raw), but that does not matter if all they have is skill, because they need to have someone with importance to champion their cause and get them a real opportunity that makes sense on all the above requirements...many have nothing else but talent, so from a professional perspective, it is better for them (the club) to take a calculated risk on a local with talent (not necessarily better) from their own country.

What we really need is for those who blazed the trail in any capacity, to now assist those following by getting them involved and that is being done by some...Those who have built up a network to varying degrees, went through the process and had some success, they know what is needed...so mentor, prepare and open the doors where possible. And we cant look at a 100% success rate, because for everyone that gets into the system, many others will fail, but must continue trying.

With regards to the teams...I see it as 2 issues

1) We simply faced better teams...the U-17 losing to Canada in the do or die game is abject failure?...come on Canada was one of the top teams and only lost in the finals, so it was simply bad luck having to face them at this point.
Same thing goes for the U-20...Mexico will be a major player at this age group

2) The coaching and administration...Its the coaches who pick the team and devise the strategy. I guarantee you the best team was never picked for any of the tournaments, but that's another discussion...Were they given proper preparation or exposure that is needed?...we all know that answer
So until we get this area right, we putting money on unqualified and out of dept leaders of our teams and programs

Will T&T be in any World Cup over the next 20 yrs?...well I would like to believe with a little luck, we have a good a chance as anyone else

what they all lacking with consistency is a 1st touch...especially under pressure and when the game quickens.
Without that, dribbling and passing does not matter because you dont have control of the ball.

The 2nd most glaring weakness with local players is ball smarts.
We just really dont understand the game and take too long to read a play, recognize an opportunity and make a correct decision. Therefore we always look slow, out numbered in attack, defense and in the middle, when we play teams that play a more complete game and have better understanding.
This is also why men movement off the ball is so poor and the one and two touch just not a part of our game...Is strictly hold the ball (when we control it), watch the ball unless we one on one in the play and have no idea about creating space for ourselves or other players...finally we do not play 100% of the game...fellas play in spurts as individuals and a team...why? because of all of the above...and it have nothing to do with fitness.

And most importantly, this applies to the coaches and their knowledge.

So, back to small goal, where we play best

Football / Re: T&T vs Canada FIFA 2011 (U-17), my take.
« on: February 25, 2011, 10:34:48 PM »
True...

One correction though, this team was only formed when they had the nationwide tryouts, however the same fellas training together since then with coach Cooper, which dont hold too well for either the coach's selections or development...but as I previously noted in other post, he was seriously limited in the support the federation give him and the program, so this must be taken into consideration in any genuine assessment of him and the team.

I still believe the team should receive some positive acknowledgment and commended for reaching the do or die game against Canada...I sure they would have gone through against another team.
After-all the team got out of their group and only finish 2nd (which ment they had to play Canada), because they lose the flip of the blasted coin

Remember, these youths did not get anything...nothing...not like any of T&T other teams, but now taking pressure and crap from people who really have no clue because they lose to Canada, when they were not the favorite...Hell, even if they got all the preparation needed, they could have still lost to Canada. If it was not for 2 chupid mistakes, we could have been tied and anything could have happened, but that being said, we needed more quality in the midfield to retain possession and I strongly believe Jomal should have been up front, Samaroo has the natural tendencies of a winger instead of forward. Also why 4-4-1-1? this is youth ball, maybe 4-2-3-1 or a simple 4-4-2 ...we need to be more attacking in numbers and put pressure on the opposing defense, not sit back and look to counter based on individual effort...

And for all the blame on Anton, he was not really involved with this team, maybe he should have spent more time than just at the end and take a free trip...I believe he had valuable knowledge that would have helped the coach so the only blame I can trow at him is not getting involved earlier.

Anyways, enough of this hindsight analysis...I say good effort youths, keep working hard and learn from this experience, the future have promise!

Football / Re: T&T vs Canada FIFA 2011 (U-17), my take.
« on: February 24, 2011, 05:03:25 PM »
Here is my take:

First up...No disrespect to coach Cooper.
Was he the best qualified in the circumstances? Definitely more than most
Is he ready to coach a national team?...More than most locals, but probably not on the international stage
Coach Cooper has potential, but would have been best suited to be an assistant at this time

Now what about his staff? No coach can do this alone...
All seem like decent people and probably some of the best from the local choices, after all they from Defense Force and they win the league

The real problem is nobody showed this squad and program any interest, respect or love...and that include many on this forum

And for what those players and coaching staff had to persevere with over a year, then they did exceptionally well.

The Canadian team is made up of players who have been groomed since 12 years in their provincial programs, in better facilities, better balance programs, etc...Youth players in Canada play competitive ball in leagues from 7 yrs and have a tiered system from division to leagues, with numerous tournaments available every week during summer...basically these boys playing in organized, competitive football from young.
The flip side to that is that they can get burn out, injuries and lost in a youth system that too big and filters out many good players too early...They also can lose the natural "feel" of the game, but they do get a good understanding and structure...

Canada just had too much preparation and training, that's why they always produce strong youth teams.
The senior team is another story.

If T&T faced any of the other quarter-finalist, we would have had a strong chance, trust me, none of the others wanted to face a confident Canadian team, who has a great chance of winning this tournament.
By the way, I dont think they are more talented, maybe stronger technically.

The T&T team did not have the balance needed for the better teams.
Cant only be brute and brawn, skill and ball smarts also needed to keep possession and move the ball intelligently...this will keep the opposition from pushing too high and also create quality chances as they stop chasing the ball or keeping focus.

Who fault is this?...the coach and his selection?, the federation? the system? the culture? the overall mentality?
Probably a bit of all, that is why we really do need to get a real good experienced foreign coach/technical director to implement a strategy and system from seniors down to the juniors, and have a staff to oversee it is implemented properly

LOL...of course we know that will never happen

we will be better in the 2nd half.

Coach needs to push Jamal up top, switch Samaroo (looking bun) with Quintero...take off Noel and put anyone, maybe Sutton..but the squad dont have dept.

In the end, the formation now needs to change and go with 2 fwds with Jomal just behind them....3 mids with Muckette holding deep and 4 D

We need a goal within the 1st 10 mins

GO WARRIORS!!!!!

Canada went with quality and technically sound players...
We went with size and strength...

Well if that is our squad, we need to put some hustle and pressure the Canadians up field, not sit and wait to get dissected.

We need all out pressure

Sad, I believe it was the insensitivity in the way this was handled.

Gosh man, they could have fed the boys, but at the same time I dont believe Jamaica on a hold should be bashed, this is the federation fault and a few people who panic with the authority.

No fear...

This will be a fairly even matchup

Canada is not exceptional is any one area, but very discipline and can be methodical in midfield and although decent size in the D, not very fast.
They usually go with big boys in the D, so we need to work the ball on the ground.
They will try to push the ball to the wings and either run around the wing backs or cut in for shots.
Our boys will need to always support in the tackles and be physical but smart.

The key will be high pressure and keep the Canucks unbalance, attack their wing back too, we will have the advantage of speed.

Not seeing many quality chances in this game, so we have to look for the rebounds and defensive mistakes...They are good at set plays, so we need to be alert and everyone must keep focus.

This game style sets up well for Jomal to shine and Samaroo to be effective with Neil.

I predict a 2-1 win for us, possibly getting a penalty for the Canucks to gripe about.

GO WARRIORS!!!!!

I wish they had spend some of that money on their fields...lol    ;D

But seriously, all that dont count now.
The commentator say Neil (#7) unlucky for the penalty and was playing a great game...I think he call the man once or twice... ::)

Trinidad team playing a 4-4-1-1

That's a defensive shape and only unlucky to go behind late on a penalty...the commentator did not sound too convincing about the penalty, so it could easily be a soft call...but that is the game.

Samaroo will come on for Quintero and bring some speed to the attack and Jamaica will start trying to hold the score and take more pressure.

1-0 is a hard score to carry from half time, so I see T&T pulling a Honduras and coming back for a 2-1 score

GO WARRIORS!!!!!

wow them guys under pressure

nah man...is home commentary you hearing, so you have to filter what you hearing.

Game dominated by the defenses so far...and Trinidad is a counter attacking team

I dont think the keepers have had any serious test yet.

Trinidad will be more relaxed and bring more quality chances in the 2nd, fitness will play a part

plenty negative comments based on no true facts but pessimism and fear...I just waiting for when they win and ah whole bunch of specialist/experts will come out and give their analysis like they always knew.

Boy, the fact is that these are all youths and this will be the biggest games of their careers up to now, and that goes for all teams...

Seems to me the coach put together a T&T team to give them an opportunity to face most situations 'at this age' and qualify...which means his team has size, speed and strength first, then enough set skills in certain areas of the field to get a positive result.
Now this is only my observation and a coach has to go with what he feels most comfortable to execute his plan and tactics.
It should also be remembered the core and most of this squad selected, playing and training together over a year, so that has some value.

My only concern, if any, is if we have enough quality for the better skilled teams that have quick touches and movement off the ball. I more afraid of Guatemala than Jamaica, because their style can present problems if we only playing counter attack style and not holding the ball enough. Jamaica will be straight ahead at pace, so it will be a speed and size match up, and with the big Tobago boy Dario and Damani, they can match up well with that style of play.
The captain Muckette will bring composure and quality, with Jomal being unpredictable but capable of special moments. The wingers have plenty speed and forward (Henry) a hard shot.

Remember, Jamaica playing in front of their home crowd and for youths, that can be a lot of pressure, not necessarily an advantage.

I giving T&T a 2-0 victory...GO WARRIORS!!!!!
