Enough talent here.
Good article listing the numerous factors as to Canada's recent success stories in basketball.  Their national team will be a force to be reckoned with. It would be sick if the Raps got Wiggins

I never understood though, with so many immigrants from Europe (Italy, Portugal, Poland) as well as the huge influx of immigrants from Africa & Caribbean why Canada doesn't have boss football/soccer team

Boys in Blue keeping that under suspicious grounds.....
I'd keep that.  I'd call it a blessing, donate a lil and go on a nice vacay...

Three Indian cricketers, including Test quick Sreesanth, have been arrested and charged with spot-fixing in this year's Indian Premier League cricket competition.

The Rajasthan Royals players, Sreesanth, 30, who has played 27 Tests and 53 one-dayers for India, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested in a late-night swoop at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai, after the Royals' loss to the Mumbai Indians.

They are being flown to Delhi where they will face court. Police have refused to reveal which IPL matches were affected by spot-fixing.

Why yuh stop yuh bold at "explaining"? That manipulates what they mean, ent? Although, granted, it struck me a kinda way too ... but then yuh hadda assess that against REALITY.

Homogenous environments breed homogenous outcomes ???

I still don't get how in 2013 it is of note that she's a person of colour.
I would prefer to make that assessment of my own accord when viewing the article and seeing her picture and be pleasantly surprised.

I stopped the highlighting there because it's irrelevant what she's brilliant at explaining. Didn't stop the quote though.

I get that they are highlighting she's a female minority, but in 2013 who gives a damn especially since that list carried 4 women of Asian descent, 3 of African descent and 2 of S. Asian descent.  She done good though as did all those other women.

The reason I'm nominating Stacy is that she is that most unusual person - a woman of color in tech who is brilliant at explaining why it's so important that we design technology for everyone

Not to take away from her accomplishments, and kudos to her however it's remarkable that people still talk like this in 2013

All jokes aside, we can't be beggars or choosers; if a gay wants to play, as long as he's playing well and we win, what does it matter?
Would you prefer this current bunch that can't win a local match or a squad of gays that take us to the World cup?

She's making TT look good, been long since the PM has been in Canada.  The last official visit to Canada by the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago to Canada was in 1966.

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/Kamla-Canada-PM--plan-major-talks-in-TT-204785801.html

Kamla, Canada PM plan major talks in T&T

A Caricom Public-Private Partnership Seminar will be held in Port of Spain later this year which will be co-hosted by Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.

This was one of the highlights coming out of discussions between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Canada  Prime Minister Stephen Harper yesterday.

Persad-Bissessar is on an official four-day visit to Canada and will return home tomorrow.

A release from the Office of the Prime Minister said the joint seminar will bring together representatives from government, the private sector, international financial institutions and multilateral development banks from Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, the broader Caricom and international community to share best practices in this field and how they can be applied further in their jurisdictions.

The business seminar will come after Trinidad and Tobago takes up the Caricom chair in July 2013.

The status of trade talks between Canada and Caricom and the common vision for a more integrated Caribbean region was the focus of discussions.

Both Persad-Bissessar and Harper, according to the release, affirmed the importance of bilateral trade and investment, the centrality of free markets to mutual prosperity, and a keen desire to strengthen collaboration in the financial, oil and gas, and energy sectors.

It noted that Canadian investment in Trinidad and Tobago has grown substantially, now exceeding $1.3 billion (CAD).

Annual two-way merchandise trade grew by 45 per cent between 2005 and 2012, and is now approaching $600 million.

Discussions also focused on education and both leaders witnessed the signing of an agreement between Brock University and the University of Trinidad and Tobago to expand co-operation between students and professors. Some 300 students from Trinidad and Tobago study in Canada each year.

The Prime Ministers’ discussions further centred on security and welcomed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of National Security and Canadian Commercial Corporation concerning the development and implementation of projects in the field of defence, security, and related infrastructure.

The MoU, stated the release, will facilitate closer ties between the two countries, including through the provision by Canadian companies of technology and services to enhance the capacity of defence and security institutions in Trinidad and Tobago.

The release stated that this country  has been part of Canada’s Military Training and Co-operation Programme (MTCP) since 1970.

In support of their shared desire to expand defence relations, the Prime Ministers welcomed the signature of a memorandum of understanding between the two nations to help Trinidad and Tobago take on a greater role to provide regional military capacity-building training. The leaders were also pleased to announce the appointment of the first Canadian defence attaché accredited to Trinidad and Tobago.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the launch of negotiations between the Air Guard of Trinidad and Tobago with Provincial Aerospace Ltd of Canada with respect to two long-range multi-mission aircraft.

The Prime Ministers also noted that Canada’s Anti-Crime Capacity Building Programme is supporting Trinidad and Tobago in modernising criminal investigations.

Harper and Persad-Bissessar were also pleased to collaborate to improve the Caribbean region’s preparedness and ability to respond effectively to natural disasters by way of Trinidad and Tobago’s participation in the Caribbean Disaster Management Harmonised Implementation Programme, which is led by the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency and supported by Canada.

According to the release, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago, hemispheric and Commonwealth partners, share common values, multicultural societies, similar systems of government and a commitment to democracy, freedom, the rule of law and human rights.

These ties are strengthened by the contributions of almost 65,000 Canadian citizens and permanent residents with roots in Trinidad and Tobago, and 6,000 Canadians resident in Trinidad and Tobago

PM to welcome Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that he will meet with, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, on April 25, 2013 during her official visit to Canada.

“Canada and Trinidad and Tobago enjoy a strong, vibrant relationship with deep historic ties as members of the Commonwealth,” said Prime Minister Harper. "We are both committed to a common vision of shared prosperity, security and democratic values, and I look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar to Canada.”

During Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s visit to Ottawa, the two leaders will discuss commercial ties and ways to advance trade negotiations between Canada and the Caribbean Community. Discussions will also focus on ways to expand academic cooperation, and collaboration within the Commonwealth and the Organization of American States. The visit will also serve to further Canada’s engagement in the Americas, a foreign policy priority since 2007.

This is Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s first official visit to Canada; the leaders last met at the Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia in April 2012.  Her visit to Canada follows the Governor General’s state visit to Trinidad and Tobago in April-May, 2012.

Canada and Trinidad and Tobago celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2012. This relationship is further strengthened by the valuable contribution to Canadian society made by Canadians of Trinbagonian descent.

News is that Ponting linked to Trinidad based franchise.

Bravo. Sammy. Gayle stay with their local team.

Narine will play for Guyana franchise

Samuel will play for Antigua franchise.

Pollard Barbados

Nah!
Iz one thing to play for cities, but our players representing countries is crap!
They should name the clubs by cities....like Georgetown Gaffers or Bridgetown Bullas

I can't hear announcers say Narine from Guyana played well, or Pollard from Barbados beat Trinidad...
or worse yet see them play with Guyana or Barbados on dey jersey

Folks need to not hold organizations like FIFA in high regards.........they are all businesses ran by men like Jack.........he didn't come up with the brilliant schemes that he been running for years on his own........it's a template that they ALL follow.......smoke and mirrors.......better off following amateur sports where real money not involved yes.......whole world corrupt

Organizations like FIFA should be run like businesses, what they do with the money is the problem.  These organizations are actually nonprofit, as ludicrous as it seems.
Nonprofit organizations are supposed to be using their surplus revenues, i.e profits and put it back into the organization's development and sustenance.  This clearly does not happen in ANY FIFA run institution.

One of the reasons things would never change in Trinbago ,since the begining of general elections 10 communities always voted one way they never change not once up till now.

At times the PNM supporters would support other parties like now , but in these 10 communities the indians never shitf at all dont ask me why yuh know.

not changing is not my gripe.........is the blatant unwilling to hold "their" note d quotes leaders accountable when dey clearly doing shit..........doh geh mih wrong it have plenty PNM people does do dat too and all indians do it, but more often we does call shit, shit regardless of colour of d ass in it falling from...be for Trinidad first god damn it

It have plenty Indians who hold "their" leaders accountable.  That's why COP form.  UNC wasn't cutting it for them.
Yuh can't be making generalized statements about an entire community?  Ent allyuh just cuss me out for the same thing?
steups....

The real problem why TnT never uniting? Too much finger pointing

Growing up we never listen to Carnival music in Lent...my mother used to to enforce that
It's an old tradition....
not sure why

maybe cuz I hear other people call it devil music.  A lot of Jakans I grow up say that about Soca that it devil music...not sure how they come up with that one.  Was blazing a Philipino chick a few years ago and I was playing soca in my car....she tell me that "devil music"
