to quote cricinfo

"T&T's superb efforts served another purpose, reminding all and sundry about the attractions of West Indian cricket and how much has been lost in these days of incompetence, egotism and idleness. T&T, and for that matter the second-string West Indian side that appeared in the Champions Trophy, played with sufficient passion to shame the overwrought incumbents and their headstrong administrators.

Certainly T&T's performance gave frustrated observers food for thought. Daren Ganga's side played as a team partly because they are a team and represent a nation, or at any rate a group of islands that have long been bound together. T&T has an identity, a meaning, a sense of patriotism. Contrastingly West Indies is a cause not a country. In essence it is a cricketing artifice and a broken dream. Those convinced that the only lasting solution to the West Indies' cricketing problems is to break it up and let the islands play as individual nations found in T&T's thrilling display plenty to support their case.

In the shorter term, Ganga's captaincy has surely also put the cat among the pigeons. It was widely and justifiably praised. After all it's been a long time since any West Indian captain coaxed a performance as spirited from his side. Although Ganga's batting might not be quite up to scratch (he's hardly alone in that), the West Indian selectors ought to consider appointing him captain of their team to tour Australia. Apart from anything else it's unlikely that he'll arrive three days before the first Test match, appear disinterested, and spend his time complaining about administrators and money and the rest of it. T&T may have pointed the way forwards. A cause cannot compete with a country, or not for eternity anyhow"

I want to tell all of you who have this idea that we are a small nation of only 1.3 million people that cannot produce world beaters, let this band of upstarts be your proof that we can beat anybody, IF, and that is a big "IF", we have the right people leading the way from every administration in our twin islands. From politicians, to sports administrators, to judges, to lawyers, to teachers, to principals, and most of all, parents. This team of cricketers from Trinidad and Tobago are showing the rest of the world what we can do as a people and they are doing it with talent, skills, an administration that cares about them and the game of cricket in Trinidad and Tobago, and most of all they are playing with PRIDE, they are not playing for PRIDE.

Good lord! are we color blind!

This level of ball is painful to watch from a National team man can't do the basics.... who the hell are the coaches.

I know these youths have skill but they don't have a clue of what to do when in possession of the ball, this is a sign of bad coaching...

We standing at the starting line waitin to run,
we there, it's a joy seeing  TnT suiting up in a World cup to play Sweden, England and Italy in the span of 3 years....
up to our boys now....we close

Du Maurier is changing their name to "Magic" named after Trinidad and Tobago's football player Russel Latapy with the slogan "In Every Puff There Is Magic"  ;D

Seroiusly though, I was wondering, how the hell they could name the promenade and a Stadium after Brian Lara, when we have nothing named after one of our most celebrated players, in Russel Latapy. Do you have to win some kinda championship or get a medal for something to be named after you?

latapy is ah boss, but in terms of major accomplishments, lara have more

whipping boys???
hell no...we had a bad hex round for the 2010 WCQ campaign.  A plus is that at least we qualified for the hex and after such a horrendous start and coach switching, and all kinda lineups being thrown together, we ain't that bad.

When T&T decide to show up and really play, we cut some serious arse.  We all know it.
It's just that we don't show up as often as we should.

breds imagine my father and his padnah watching the game last night with me and say, dey padnahs in high school was running better ball than some of these men   better dribblers and passers of the ball wow

I agree, we have nuff talent and mediocre results is not good enough; we have proven we could succeed....
jack, latas, yorke and all of them need to look out for the red, black and white once in a while instead of only the green...

What about Track & Field / Re: The Caribbean is full of Usain Bolts
« on: August 21, 2009, 01:40:37 PM »
As a child growing up in Trinidad and Tobago I was surrounded by athletic talent and potential.  There were footballers (guys and girls) who had mind blowing skills, a lot of fast runners and a lot of very fast runners.  What happened to these kids with great potential?  Different opportunities came knocking; some went on to illustrious careers, some went on to just becoming family men, some went abroad to study and put their athletic career on the back burner, some flat out just wasted it.  The Caribbean is full of Usain Bolts.  All credit has to be given to Usain for his accomplishments because he did it the right way.  Went down the right path that led him to success without major obstacles.  His success is based not only on his God-given talents, and his drive to succeed but also the foundation and building blocks that brought him to that point.  His family, the trainers from when he was a youngster to today, the right people around him are to be commended.  He is truly blessed to be where he is.
Those like Hasely, Don Quarrie, Ato, Merlene amongst others were superb athletes, who broke from the mold, and became successes in their true right.  They did it not only with talent but with drive and dedication.  But a success here and there is no longer acceptable in Caribbean Track and field.  In 2009, where the Caribbean is at the forefront, specifically Jamaica, the other islands are next.  Antigua, Grenada, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and other islands all have Usain Bolts.  He is not an athletic freak, he is a foundation freak.  To have great talent is not uncommon, but to go down the right roads to reach the goal is.  All future Atos, Usains, Asafas, Richards, Frasers of the Caribbean, use this recent success to follow suit and win.  The Caribbean is full of them.  We as fans, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, family and friends let's properly support our athletes, and give them the proper building blocks.  When you see talent, nurture it, and set it on the right path.  Don't let it get caught up in guns, drugs, alcohol or just laziness.  Our time is coming.  As much as it is up to the athletes, it's up to those around him/her too.

With all due respect. There is only one Usain Bolt. His kind does not grow on trees anywhere!

Maybe the title of this thread would better read "The Caribbean is full of potential Usain Bolts"

Ur right, definitely only one Usain Bolt, but the talent and potential of Usain Bolt exists in all the islands...Jamaica included may have 4 other Usain-level talents but they may not have gone down the same path he did.  The cards are simply dealt differently, but track and field talent is plentiful in the Caribbean.  Harbouring that talent now...

what dat have to do wit anything. cuz yuh good yuh have license to move like ah a$$? never understood the 'know yuh place' attitude.

Even if he is wrong about Becks, Donavan have all right to call him out bout things that bothering him...but not in a book and behind his back so. Daiz team business that need to be handled like mature adults behind close doors.

it have to do with everything.  If he was the same level, go for it Donovan, speak yuh mind; otherwise he'll just look bitter and jealous which others have already noted.  If Kaka start calling out Beckham, more people would pay attention for the sole fact they serious ballers.  Donovan trying to get he name out there. simple as that. ..but yeah he if really had concerns i agree, keep that for the locker room

latapy listing himself as a player is a waste!
bring someone else, it's a wasted spot cuz he not playing anyway!
he coming to game in dress shirt and pants, tinto wearing his #. he utilizing another player's valuable spot.
he not gonna be tearing off he shirt like clark kent...think nuh man!

Like you feel you is the coach or wha?!

Latapy is in charge so if he decides to play himself for a 30mins or so to show the guys how to run the middle in a warm-up game then its up to him isn't it?!
Also I didn't read anywhere that the warm-up games are an official tourney and so accordingly spots on the squad are limited so Latapy is wasting a spot listing himself but if we missed that stated somwhere then please show us!

Cheers
Socapro  8)

lol. I eh no coach.  But to show a midfield that won't even start (sans Tinto) how to run the middle serves what purpose for WCQ?
A warm up with a B -Team would only help us in the long run as a developmental process, but last time I check we not looking to develop players now.  We looking to get to S. Africa.  A very daunting task at this point I might add.
Rather than doing with what we have right now, we should put forth the best we have!
