i have to commend the TTFF for the quality warm up matches!

facing a gold cup squad would help us.  especially one that we gave the gold cup entry to

783
Good luck to them.

I sympathize with their pain, after all we had Nov. 19th.

Peace,
VB

nah jed, we win that playoff against Bahrain...they were never robbed like us Nov 19th

The game/s Yorke didn't play in, for the ban he served, can anyone remind me how the team looked.

last ting...it would have been Blasphemy to take off the captain in his own stadium in front of his home crowd, in such a historic game...They needed him on the field to take the penalty that the fwds ent draw.

 ;D

take off the captain? never! He come on second half to a roaring ovation, pass him de armband, music start, crowd go wild, costa rica get shaky, we put some goals in...rell bachanal...every player woulda see what it's like to be a national hero and strive for that....and hence play their a$$ off....
then i wake up....we too predictable

I agree Just Cool,
but what has changed?

At the risk of being blasted, this been bothering me for some time.

Latapy is in charge and by reading reviews from the media and our fellow warriors fans, our golden boy has done a decent job. or has he?

1. We winless
2. We still not scoring goals
3. We still have a bad defence
4. We still struggling to find a solid lineup
5. Our coach still our best mid
6. We still playing Yorke too much
7. Kenwyne still cyah put a goal in
8. ditto Scottie
9. Ince still barking
10.We not doing proper warmups (tobago united?)
11.Frenism still going on
12.We still last place in the hex

I wish latas de best cuz in all seriousness he is a boss when it comes to T&T football but from a factual point of view, the cons outweigh the pros...for now, we have a daunting task ahead of us.
It real hard to stomach

Eh??  ???
ah guess those three goals in d last two games didnt happen  :-\

true, you right with that...ah edit it
it just hard to see teams we could beat, run circles around us

imagine none of our goals scored thus far in the campaign were by our strikers.... :-[
if they can't score, we can't expect to win!
i may be too harsh and too critical, but name a team that does well without their strikers scoring?
i await to see a different result against Mexico....

People critical of the team defending, but regardless of how good a job you do in organization, defending is based on the individual first and then the collective.

it's a team game...a collective unit is by far more potent in that division...we have good defenders but a shaky defense
leave the individuality to our star strikers who can't put a ball in the back of the net

latapy will be a good coach down the line....
and lats should not be pleased cuz as a coach a loss is a loss...
he not there to just ensure the team play good some of the time...he is there to get the win
3 goals at home is not excusable, for the defenders, players, team and coach....sorry.
Latas we need a win!

latas is a next one
so that makes our coach and our captain, our nation couldn't ask for more for Saturday

a sad state of affairs our national team program is in regarding this matter....
dwight, latas, stern, ince, lawrence amongst others all getting older...
when did we go wrong?  where was the development?
it seems one generation will die, and the next never got a chance; who have been the newer constants in the past 5 years? Carlos, KJ and Birchie are the only names that come to mind,
the current team will fade and the under 20's will rise...only in T&T football

What did we do right?

Nuttin besides making it to Germany
and we didn't do it the right way.... it was the old man team that took us there, but other than 06, we didn't do anything right IMO..waste a whole generation of footballers and have to start from scratch

Whey lakers fans...yuh get lucky...real lucky but what a game!!

Nuggets fans this hard to swallow..
Melo light up the Lakers
K-Mart scoring the same shot all night but get hard foul
Chris Andersen playing nice
J.R start to hit shots
Bigshot Billups hitting Bigshots
Nene play strong and then get foul out
Bynum looking lost
Gasol not producing
Phil Jackson aging before we eyes on the camera

but......Lakers know how to finish games
Kobe knows how to finish games...the man is insane
honourable mention to Fisher

Any game that is close in the 4th against the Lakers will most likely go to the Lakers....
Can't wait for game 2

Football / Re: Should Yorke still be captain ?
« on: May 08, 2009, 10:29:26 AM »
This is a non issue ... It doesn't matter who is captain because DY is the leader of this team and will act accordingly ,arm band or not. Anybody can take a toss.

Is that the role you see for a captain on a football field ? ..to take a toss ? Do you realise that Yorke, as captain, took a decision to allow Stern to kick the penalty against El salvador ? " it does not matter who wears the armband that Yorke is the leader of the team ? "...

The captain of the team is not necessarily the best player you know ...often he is named because the manager wants to get the other players to play like him.....eg. Maradona named Mascherano as captain ....You had Riquelme, Zanetti, Veron etc ..all of whom were captains before ....yet he said he liked the effort Mascherano gave to the team and he wanted the team to give the same ...
Captain of Chelsea ...Terry ...is he their best player ..not by a long shot .....but again it is the attitude and leadership quality he has ....is puyol the best on barcelona ? What about the captains of teams like Brazil , Italy, France are they the best players on the team ...
What do you see yorke , a non playing captain , as bringing to the team as leader at this time ? when the team is down is there a fighting spirit as of old in Dwight ? When the team is down how does he respond ? ..how has he responded ? ..to get youirself sent off after a game and miss two important games thereafter ??
In countries serious about football that would have been all she wrote as far a acptain was concerned. I still believe Dwight has something to contribute to the team in his role as defensive midfielder but I think the team would be far better served by someone say ...such as Carlos Edwards who is in the cut and thrust of football week in week out.
By all means Yorke can add his experience to whoever is named captain ..but if we are serious we cannot just accept whatever is given to us without question.

i agree.
Dwight brings leadership more than any other playing warrior
but he needs to train these boys to play with the passion he played with at their age.
Carlos is the man to wear the arm band IMHO however he not that vocal on the field.  Dwight is more so.  Carlos is a workhorse.  Dwight needs to mould Carlos into the captain that I believe he should be.
When Dwight is off cuz he can't last the 90, and Latas on the bench, who calling the shots?  Who leading them?
they look lost without either of these men on the field.  Someone step up or give a younger man the opportunity to step up!

Football / Re: Bayern Munich Fires Coach Juergen Klinsmann

Jack fire Maturana too early...

I suppose this just adds fuel to the debate regarding "good-players-turn-national-coach", since Klinsman name was one used for the "pro" side.

they are both arguments for being a scapegoat.  Mats and Klinsmann were both skating on thin ice so due to pressure from fans, players and mgmt they get the boot.  Klinsmann actually cared about his team and the success of his coaching career.  Mats already been there and done that.  TnT needs a coach that is up and coming and has something to prove with less to work with.  Bayern needs a tried and tested coach who has been there, done that and have plenty to work with....Mats and Klinsmann shoulda swap.

Well all we can do now is win the next two and get into the World Cup.

Even if we get in the WC, if we get 7 from Mexico, what will the world give us?

We get into the World Cup=we get another chance. Doh study the licks you might get. How many careers might done if we don't get into the World Cup?

We will always have careers being made, but when will we be like the Mexicos, CR's and USA's of CONCACAF.  Our football program so inconsistent with success.  I don't blame the youths, it's the weak administration and training/development.

Football / Re: Latapy and Terry Fenwick can lead T&T.
« on: April 23, 2009, 07:24:29 AM »
I wanted to start a new thread for this, but not really, so I will post it here as Flex mentioned it.

Dwight Yorke (our most successful and celebarted player ever), Kenwynne Jones (now), and Jason Scotland  have all been successful at their clubs, yet they struggle when they play for us. Is that their fault or is it lack of quality players on our team?

It is always amusing to me that people say that Scotland have/has/had/did get/got/gotten a chance and cannot provide, yet as soon as he leave us and return to club he strikes (which is very reminiscent of DY, and KJ at times). Recently even Stern John who is touted as the best ever, has dried up. Should we keep blaming the forwards, midfielders, defenders, Trinbagonian mentality or the tactics selected by the technical staff?

How then are we to motivate our forwards to produce for us at the international level? Should we discard players until we find "the one"? Or should we find different tactical methods when incorporating all our players? It is not as straightforward as some of us make it out to be, but is part of a more complex web of shortcomings within our footballing ranks. We all understand football to a certain level - some more than others - yet no one seems able to solve this problem. The defense and midfield some may say is our biggest problem, but the problems there can be readily picked out - so to our midfield. Our strength is in our attackers and yet our attackers has proven less than able on numerous occasions. What do we do? What should Jason Scotland do? What should Kenwynne Jones do?

Interesting query.  Well look at the selected forwards in question (Jones, Scottie, Stern).  We have forwards who can finish.  Scotland out of the 3 can create more.  Jones and Stern are finishers, in harsher terms "cherry pickers."  Those men can score but only if the ball is perfectly lined up for them in front of the net.  They are good at what they do but not consistent as they heavily rely on service.  Our mids lack vision and creativity (with the exception of Carlos, Yorke).  Yorke really is the only mid ( i ain't counting Latas cuz he not busting a sweat these days) who can create and put out a nice pass to start a counter.  Carlos runs and creates lots of space but his cherry picking forwards just stand around waiting for the ball to be handed on a silver platter.  The delivery that the aforementioned 3 forwards receive at club level is higher than international.  This has been explored before.

These are the types of forwards in football:
the finisher aka the cherry picker- have a friendly bounce, a perfectly crossed ball or a deflection puts the ball right to them and they tuck it away...see Jones, Scottie, Stern..should NEVER miss sitters
the striker- this man will shoot and shoot and shoot.  Create shots, create space, dribble the ball and figure out a way to get a shot out of nothing...see Zlatan
Both- see Henry

We have no such player who can do both.  But we do have finishers AND strikers.
Glen, Roberts need a sweat.

How do we ensure that these youths stay swimming for Trinidad?  Does the possibility exist they go elsewhere to train/study and those respective nations swoop them up? I assume this is where administration steps in and really makes a solid swimming program.  It seems to be in good hands as you mentioned, I would hate to see the potential of our swimmers go to waste.  Congrats to the whole team/staff for making us proud.

This thread is only causing division based out of racism and is rather counter productive.
T&T can't survive without Indo-Trinbagonians
T&T can't survive without Afro-Trinbagonians

Our nation built on our diverse culture or else we go have another Guyana or another Jamaica.  We don't want either of that.  Get over all of allyuh selves.

frankly I am f-ing tired yes.  How a small population like ours expect to succeed  survive with division going on? Tired I tell you.

Football / Re: Latapy and Terry Fenwick can lead T&T.
« on: April 21, 2009, 08:04:03 AM »
Latapy and Terry Fenwick can lead T&T.

A) Head Coach - Terry Fenwick
Straightforward, disciplined, organized, professional attitude, fighting spirit in him and have T&T at heart. It is also good to have a foreign coach involved at some capacity to enable us proper team selection.

B) Assistant Coach - Russell Latapy
Experienced player. Great knowledge on and off the field, clam and straightforward as well. Latapy can also assist with developing our next midfield general. Focus on helping our midfield become better.

C) Assistant Coach - Dwight Yorke
His attitude towards T&T is second to none and his experience will definitely be a big plus. He can also focus our helping our strikers become better.

D) Goalkeeper Coach - Lincoln Phillips and Shaka Hislop (for all teams, both men and women)
Our two most successful keepers we ever produced with great knowledge and experienced.

E) Defensive Coach - Stuart Charles Fevrier
A very calm person with good experience at coaching and at playing at the back. He has lived and played in T&T for over a decade and knows the T&T players and league very well.

F) Fitness Trainer - Ato Boldon
Ato have graced the highest stage of athleticism. He knows what it take to be on top form. He can also help our players build speed and mental strength.

G) Technical Director - Lincoln Phillips and Stephen Hart.
Lincoln has worked with some of the best. He has the knowledge and experience to take us to the next level. Stephen Hart also have the experience to help us reach at a higher level. Both men are thinking minds and should make a pretty decent team. Both men is also capable of good analysis of teams and I am sure if given the support and tools to do their jobs they will get it done.

good read, my two cents and to play devil's advocate

a) the number of strong personalities may cause some clash/friction: Latas, Terry, Yorke, Ato
b) it could only work if ahead of time it was agreed upon by all parties that Fenwick is #1, everyone else is #2 or below, but T&T football is no Utopia. Too many egos. Terry would have to be the man who makes the final call, he is the man they all have to listen to, no questions.
c) Latas and Yorke together are great for the team morale, but will they be fair or choose favourites?  Will they give the due respect to Fenwick? or will we have a situation like in 2001.  They have the most power I have seen any national have for T&T (and rightfully so); however,we can't have a situation of the cart pulling the horse.  It won't work.  I believe Latas has to be an ass't coach and if we don't have a replacement for him right now, then we don't have an opening for him.  (Nothing against Latas as head coach; I do wish him all the best and want to see him succeed)
d) I agree 100% with Shaka.  Hislop would be a GREAT addition to the program.  The man is proud of his nation, he has come through for us time after time, made us look good, has the experience, has the knowledge, well spoken, is humble and commands respect.  I hope he makes a return to the TTFF.
e) Jack Warner provides all necessary support ONLY when requested/needed.
