I think to just call us a "small nation" is do deny us our due acknowledgment.  We are, if I'm not mistaken, THE SMALLEST nation to have ever qualified for a World cup (possibly at ANY level) and that is something I don't see changing.  I really don't see a smaller nation than ours, having the resources or producing the players to accomplish such a feat.  That should not be overlooked.

that's why I out small in quotations; we are dubbed small, but I know we are far from it.

How yuh go make a plaque of dat? Is a good idea, but it have too much players to name and plenty deserving ones that not even named on this list. That go be one big facking plaque

And the list of players could say "x number + counting"
but just for argument sake, supposed you were on that list...ah bet you'd want to see your name..  :D

Very Impressive; when you put it all down even more so to see the accolades we, a "small" footballing nation have accomplished.
Anyone know any man in TTFF?  tell dem to print this out and put it on a plaque in the locker room for all T&T players to look at before they enter the field.  That is real pride and inspiration for any Trinibagonian!

breds.....your team just collect a 4 goals planass, wha de Gold cup have to do with that?

you thinkin you one-upping T&T with that gold cup talk, but all yuh doing is putting yuh personality disorder on public display

Anyway hard luck JA youths, woulda be nice to have 2 CFU teams in a WC.
:) So you deliberately chose to ignore the question that was asked about which was important; the Gold Cup or the HEX. Then you will probably reply that I miss the point in your statement about both tournaments especially the ongoing U-20 qualifiers which T&T has up to this point not qualified for yet. But the CONCACAF Gold Cup which Jamaica has qualified for seems to carry a sour note for you since T&T was knocked out of the Digicel Championship by Grenada.
Chose to respond now if you want to. But it would be much better for you to wait a few more hours until the final whistle. Then you can come and boast how T&T has qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Egypt. Now if you continue to boast then count on your 10 fingers if T&T has qualified for more FIFA tournaments than Jamaica in 2008.

Breds Gold Cup is a CONCACAF tournament. The last FIFA tournament you qualified for was U-20 in 2001.  Not that I would go any further into this bullshit arguement.

Carry on.
So why does CONCACAF need FIFA's stamp of approval for the tournament. And what is that logo I keep seeing on the referees jerseys during the past CONCACAF Gold Cups. Isn't CONCACAF an affilate of FIFA?

lol..what kinda horse**** logic is that?
CONCACAF hold it's own tourney but of course it's governed by FIFA, that don't make it a FIFA tournament...kinda like the EURO's...it's a tourney governed by FIFA, but it's not a FIFA tournament, it's UEFA.
steups...allyuh good yes, making the GOLD cup to be the biggest thing ever...to you maybe but we'll be focusing on bigger fish to fry, since allyuh get fry already twice! JR and SR level.

patrick vieira gone and undo all of Julio Cesar's good, hard work.  Beautiful finish by vidic, but vieira supposed to know that vidic is a target in them situations and he hadda keep dat man in front of him no matter what.  That turnaround move that led to the slip was a big mistake.  Ibrahimovic starting to warm up but at some point Inter need to make use of all the chances they getting.

zlatan getting good service, wouldn't be surprised to see him score

If CR win the first game, shouldl T&T rest their starters?

The ones in card trouble maybe, but I say let them play at least to start the game and get it under control; then make some subs accordingly

Not wanting to rain on the parade but am I the only person on this forum who seems a bit concerned about our "forgone conclusion attitude" towards qualifying for Egypt tonight?

Please do not misunderstand me because like most, I am happy with our performance so far, I am pleased to see all the youths hard work paying off but I have also been around this sport long enough to know that you never start patting yourself on the back until after the final whistle blow.

Canada will not go easy against Costa Rica and Mexico can never be considered a non-entity.....Please do not add to the euphoria and forget about our near misses in the past (Strike Squad - November 19th)...it is never a forgone conclusion in any sport especially in our beloved football. That being said, I do hope for victory and qualification for the young warriors this evening.

Just a thought....

 :applause: :applause: :applause:

People seem to forget.  A Canadian win and bigger Mexican win will see Can and CR qualify.
I don't think it will happen but.....

true because a costa rican poster stated they will not leave anything to chance ... they are going to ensure their qualification

CR ain't taking it lightly; but yuh cyah count out the Canadian youths, they are always good at the youth level; the seniors is a next story...
we need to just take care of business and hopefully once we kickoff we already in...
go soca warriors!

That is the best freekick T&T ever score. The wall set up was shyte as they needed a 4th player in the wall, having said that it showed great awareness by De Silva to recognize this and take full advantage.

Sweet strike with the outside of the right.

Yea that was a sweet freekick for sure boy but u think that beat Spann freekick from the gold cup from almost the half line?

trivela!

Why Haiti and not T&T  ???

Where is Jackula when we need him
Because I think they were in the same group and failed to get one of the 2 places.I THINK SO FROM WHAT I MEMBA.

HAiti will pull out for financial reasons

true...so according to that logic we'd need the Reggae or Spice team to pull out for us to bless the Gold Cup and ah doubt that happening

so if haiti pull out we get a pass? or antigua? (unlikely)

Football / Re: Jones is a Midfielder
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:28:09 AM »
Jones as a midfield would make sense judging by some of the points read; but Sunderland is his payroll, and if they aren't impressed by what T&T is doing with the guy don't be surprised if you see less appearances by him, or benched , or only playing limited minutes.
With the importance of WCQ, we need to play our players the best way that they can play for TNT.  IMHO Jones is not producing what we expect.  We've put him on a pedestal because he is viewed as a threat in the EPL, but he hasn't earned that title yet for country.  He's capable of it and the T&T coaching staff needs to really figure out how to use his talent to benefit us, rather than just throwing him on the field.

canada league?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Soccer_League_(current)

lol

but the stadium in Toronto nice doh.

Dais Toronto FC playing ground (BMO field)....and yeah it nice

my opinion, overall...I'd have to say Mexico and US have the best leagues...everyone else is just getting by
US have done a good job with MLS in promoting and developing local talent (or stealing foreign talent)...they just lack the big crowds/names that you would find in the NBA, MLB, NFL, but in the span of MLS, kudos should be given.
Mexico has a plethora of talent and could be a more popular league, but don't get much promotion.

Skill wise it's the same two countries that come 1&2

A lot has to do with size, if the other nations were as big as Mexico and US, they'd be up there too...but every other CONCACAF nation is amateur comparatively to Mexico/US.  Not that they are big pro leagues cuz they are still amateurs to the Euros.

« on: February 24, 2009, 09:39:16 AM »
SERIOUSLY fellas, VB asked this question once and now is de perfect opporunity to ask it again.

Seeing that Yorke suspended for the Honduras and USA game. Allyuh feel Stern John could replace Yorke in central midfield for T&T in their next two games. ?

FOR EXAMPLE

Phillip
James, Thomas, Lawrence, Avery
Edwards, Stern, Daniel, Aklie
Jones, Scotland.

I like that lineup..
stern does bring some of the intangibles that yorke possesses on the offensive side, but do u see him running back on d? or hanging out in the attacking midfield....
we kinda lax on d, so he WOULD have to remember that part of the role of the midfielder; dwight is in good shape for his age, and he will come back and help on d 9/10 times, i'd even say 10/10....
i'd say try stern in the first half...let them let loose on goal, then bring in the general latas to come in the second half and bring the composure on the field.

Football / What is T&T's favourite foreign pro team?
« on: February 20, 2009, 04:05:08 PM »
Just got this idea from reading the Inter-Man U thread

Some Trinbagonians became Man-U fans (if they weren't before) once yorke started tearing up the premier league....
what's your fav foreign team of all time with T&T contigents?

Man U with Yorke?
Sunderland with Jones, Edwards, Yorke?
Villa with Yorke?
Hibernian with Latas?
Porto?
Boavista?
Swansea with Scottie?
Columbus Crew with Stern?
Coventry with Stern?
West Ham with Shaka?

Those are the ones I'm throwing out there, but there are many more as we all know....past and present.

I'd say Yorke on Man U and Shaka on West Ham, because I watched those games with great pride seeing a fellow Trinbagonian on the big stage doing well.

Reports: Raptors trade O'Neal to Heat for Marionby FOXSports.com
A pair of former All-Stars are trading teams on All-Star weekend.

The Toronto Raptors have reached a deal to send Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, according to multiple media reports Friday.

The deal gives the struggling Raptors a pair of athletic players and some financial flexibility for the upcoming free-agent season. The Heat get a post-up presence to pair with backcourt star Dwyane Wade.

Toronto is also sending a conditional draft pick to the Heat and getting cash considerations in return, the Toronto Star reported, citing league sources.

The 30-year-old Marion — a four-time NBA All-Star — is averaging 12 points and nine rebounds per game this season in his 10th NBA season. His contract — which pays him nearly $18 million this year — is up at the end of the season.

O'Neal leaves the Raptors after a partial season filled with injuries. He played in 40 games, averaging 13.7 points and seven rebounds. He has made the All-Star team six times.

Moon has played in 54 games this season, averaging 7.3 points per game. Banks is averaging 2.6 points in just 16 games.

cyah say dat is huge loss...but is ah blow

at the start of the season raptors was supposedly to be rebuildin de team around bosh with a powerful centre as a 1-2 punch

now they change direction completely......colangelo and dem tryin to win by bargain shopping for personnel, dat cyah happen money have to spen

That's a good trade for Toronto
O nEal experiment just didn't work out...as well the schedule after the all star break looks good the raps...not saying they are playoff bound, but the opportunity to do so seems more realistic with Bargnani playing well, Calderon, Bosh healthy and Marion adding some speed to be able to keep up with Calderon.  Colangelo making his mini Phoenix Suns over in Toronto.
