Friday, January 22, 2016

Last season’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 champions T&T Red Steel will be known as the T&T Knight Riders for this year’s edition of the tournament, which bowls off in June.

CPL insiders revealed that the owners of the T&T Red Steel franchise, who also own the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier league (IPL), have requested a name change for the T&T franchise.

Last year, the T&T Red Steel was bought by Red Chillies Entertainment which is owned by Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, as well as Jay Mehta.

The team won the title in front of home supporters at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, and fans were looking ahead to another successful season for the Red Steel.

The nucleus of the new T&T Knight Riders is expected to remain and Dwayne Bravo will be at the helm. However, the team’s marquee foreign player would be the New Zealand Brendan McCullum, who plays for the KKR in the IPL. McCullum was one of the standout players in last year’s World Cup where he led New Zealand to the final.

The draft for the tournament is scheduled for February 11 at the Hilton Barbados and the six teams will finalise their roster for the tournament. It is understood that some of the Bollywood stars involved in the set-up would be present at the draft.

This CPL will be making significant strides this year, as matches are carded for outside of the Caribbean. There is a block of matches at the end of July which is scheduled to take place at the Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, which is the only International Cricket Council (ICC) recognised venue in the United States.

People could vex how much they want, but in reality, the owners really have no allegiance to Trinidad nationally, culturally or otherwise.  In the end it seems like a smart business move and a cheap way to source new talent for KKR and promote THEIR BRAND. I guess the WI in its brilliance really ended up farming out their own talent and infrastructure for pennies on the dollar...

Trinidad is a hard place to vote strictly on religion (too many permutations for the common man). So I don't necessarily think people in Trini vote based on religion. Even if they wanted to, I think most vote where they think they would have better access to resources (as someone previously said).

On the Afro-Trinidadian side I sense a general yearning for the glory days of Eric Williams and that type of leadership (hence the "my prime minister" posts now all over the place).

There has been a general mistrust on both sides of the fence that has been created and exploited well by BOTH political parties.

As "Great as the PNM" is, I'm not sure they were entirely fair to the East Indian segment of the population in the past........ and they also still remember Ellis Clarke bypassing Kamal for PM.

NAR got the closest to unifying the nation but were too intellectual and forgot about the grassroots supporters.

Panday and Kamla both had a chance to unite things but failed miserably due to damn greediness.

Trinidad needs a badjohn leader who has the country at heart because that is the only things get done in T&T.

Question is, is Rowley up to the task and how will he go about regaining the trust of the East Indian population to move the country forward?

WIPA resignation may have hurt Ramdin

Denesh Ramdin resigned from WIPA.
The fact that wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin resigned from the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) may have cost him his job as captain of the West Indies Test team.

This according to former West Indies manager Omar Khan who says that he understands that many of the senior players have resigned from the players body after they again negotiated a poor contract for them

Khan said: “It is alleged that a number of senior West Indies players have resigned from the Players Association (WIPA) with Ramdin being one of them, and it seems as if this has cost him the captaincy.”

Ramdin was replaced by ODI captain Jason Holder last week as captain of the Test team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The West Indies play two Test matches, three ODIs and two T20s on this tour and Holder will take charge of both the Tests and the ODIs, while a T20 captain is yet to be confirmed. Whether the West Indies selectors continue with St Lucian Darren Sammy or choose another candidate is yet to be seen. Opener Kraigg Brathwaite will serve as deputy to Holder for the Test series.

Khan continued: “The relationship between the WICB and the WIPA is known to be very close and it may have been the thinking of the board that they needed their Test captain to be a member of the players body. I hope that this is not the case because if it is, then it is a very sad state of affairs.”

Ramdin was one of the players who aborted the West Indies tour of India last October over a payment structure dispute between WIPA and the WICB.

“I cannot understand how they could have removed Ramdin from the post of captain. He skippered in 14 Test matches, won four, lost seven and drew three. This record was not bad given the fact that he was rebuilding a team,” added Khan.

“All the other international teams have given their captains time to build their squad and it is unfortunate that Ramdin’s tenure has been cut short. The WICB has failed in terms of preparing their leaders. When you look at the other countries, they send their captain and those who they think could become leaders to seminars to develop them. This is not done at the WICB, they just ignore this and once they continue to operate in this manner our cricket will continue to be in the doldrums.”

Khan said he was totally puzzled at the current situation and would like those involved to come clean. “The WICB sends out a press release stating that the directors of the board unanimously agreed to remove Ramdin based on a recommendation from the selectors. Yet one of the directors Azim Bassarath comes out and says that he knew nothing of this and is not supporting the move. At the moment people are trying to fool the people of the Caribbean and it is about time someone speaks the truth.”

Question......wasn't Omar Khan one of the false papers men?

Just throwing it out there. Apparently security of tenure and certificates of comfort are given once you occupied the land for 16 or more years.  Also if you farming. In fact that argument either ends with the inhabitants of the land getting another somewhere as compensation or they allowed to use it.

Thanks for adding something of substance to this thread unlike some of the other posters who are so upset that I've labeled the PP government as racist (which they are) that they can’t focus on the issue at hand. The issue at hand is the victimization of the Guave Road Farmers by the destruction of their livelihood and trying to drive them off their farm land with no compensation and the government selling off prime Chaguaramas real estate cheaply to their friends and private investors without any consultation with the farmers or the general T&T public.

It is not just this incident that has led me to the conclusion that we are dealing with a racist T&T government that does not care about the country and is happy to sell off most of its prime assets to private investors. This latest incident is just one of many different incidents that have led me to my conclusion.

Many folks don’t realize the significance of the Chaguaramas area towards T&T gaining its independence and that Eric Williams had to lead a public march there in 1960 to get the area back from the Americans who were given the area to use for their military base during World War II but did not want to give it up after the war had ended. It was that movement to get the colonizers (both the British and the Americans) out and to get the area back for the people of T&T that led to us going for our independence.

Also many of the Guave Road farmers are descendents of ex African slaves who acquired land in that area and went into farming after the Abolition of slavery. Some were persuaded by the colonial authorities to temporarily give up their land for use as a US military base during World War II but since the war ended there has been disputes about giving them deeds to the farm land that they had previously owned and farmed for generations since the Abolition of Slavery.

That is the part a lot of people conveniently forget. As I recall they were given verbal promises back in the day but were never given deeds for the lands......

Great win!

Looking at the highlights from several games, the batting across the region is still far below where it needs to be, but CPL is a step in the right direction.

Lol...but I can't understand why the answer "Learie fadda" won't suffice?..... ;D.

General Discussion / Re: The badjohn from 1990 back at it again
« on: July 26, 2014, 10:50:11 AM »
Security minister said Trinbagonians need not worry about any threats, because a coup will be crushed in an hour. He said T&T has evolved since 1990 and there are security measures in place to respond in any coup or threat to democracy. I will not worry whenever an individual make threats to national security because I have faith in the defense system we have today

http://www.guardian.co.tt/news/2014-07-25/griffith-bakr’s-statement-any-coup-will-be-crushed-hour

Unfortunately this is not the real issue. The real issue is that a man can hold a country ransom, kill people and continue to make treasonous statements with impunity. He can obviously do this because those in government have made concessions to him in their quest for public office.

Trinis shoo shoo and talk but there was really no real outrage at what happened in 1990.

David Rudder really say "the nation needs a brand new daddy"........ and what Trinidad needs is an intelligent leader with a badjohn finish (who has the country at heart). That is the only kinda leader T&T can prosper under.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Narine to play in Barbados Test
« on: June 12, 2014, 08:11:19 AM »
Ramdin wish he had Narine now to get latham

The whole lineup of the team is a mess in addition to the poor batting. This is what I would do.

Gayle and Powell openers,
bravo needs to bat 3 (and be told this is your responsibility...stop pulling stones and shitting on yourself)
samuels 4
pollard (should be in team) at 5 especially since Bravo injured
chanders 6 (even though I prefer him at 5 and pollard 6)
Ramdin 7

and 4 bowlers (Shillingford, Narine, Roach, and other fast bowler), or Narine and three fast bowlers depending on pitch conditions (I've always liked the combination of Roach, Rampaul and Edwards because of their different skill sets, but they never seem to be fit all at once and Edwards may be a bit past his sell by date.

Makes no sense going with Benn AND Shillingford. I'd rather go Shillingford and Narine or Shillingford and a leg spinner because it gives more attacking options. Gayle and Samuels (and even shillingford) can hold down an end if things get tight.

I prefer Shillingford to Benn because he can bowl long and seems to have a better cricket brain. When he gets wickets he gets plenty and in bunches.

And why should the school be burdened with providing child care? If they made the choice they should deal with the consequences best they can. And if the girls getting suspended the boys should be too...why should they suspend the girls but not the boys?

Because 17 years later, if you don't deal with it you will deal with 5 more who can't read and coming with guns in dey hand to lock yuh 4king neck.

Again, if you had read my posts more carefully.... I pointed out that this is evidence against the essentialness of slavery. Spain also had a fair amount of mineral wealth (including coal) during this period, so simply shift the argument to there - the point still stands. Those nations with the most intensive slave trading are not the major winners. Moreover, of those countries developing during the "Second Industrial Revolution", Germany had barely any slave trading before their Industrial Revolution, Japan similarly.

Cheap slave labour was to the benefit of the plantation owners - as I've pointed out there's a misconception on capitalism - it never tries to benefit the state, simply individuals with capital. Plantation owners and the mercantile class worked human beings to death as if they were cattle, whilst over charging Britain for the imports through Parliamentary acts limiting trade on key good to the colonies, guaranteeing them a better price than the world average for the time. Cheap labour was essential indirectly - by enriching this class whom could grow powerful enough to place constraints on the monarchy. We agree on the essential nature of colonialism, but for different reasons.

No one was trading in slaves as the British were during this period... Britain had assumed naval superiority from Spain by the 17th century, and not just in warfare.  England didn't benefit from slavery because of capitalism... she benefited because of mercantilism and the remission of profits back to England.  One of the chief complaints by the plantocracy were the high taxes, for instance.  The plantation economies of the Spanish and Francophile islands simply wasn't on par, a chief factor which you conveniently overlook.

For the benefit of the forum, can you explain the difference between capitalism and mercantilism.

Spain was merciless ,bloodthirty to the Aztecs and other Ameridians lawd ,England ,Portugal and Italy too . Especially when they find gold ,silver and jewels.
Humans will never know what we lost with the lost of  those ppl .We lost the whole history of us.They use to laugh when missionaries try to teach them.
Only because those ancient humans  where murdered they brought workers .But by then the gold was already mined.
Hundreds of billions ....haha Spain broke  now.

Funny enough I always asked myself the question how can Spain lay claim to sunken treasure that is found... when dey really tief it from the Incas and Aztecs

The headline says it all.......Markets - FEAR - Russia.

The Markets don't fear Russia... they fear the collateral effects of the implosion of the Russian economy, a very likely prospect at this point.

 :yawning:

23
Look like Russia decide to take in front before in front take them.

Markets fear Russia has cut US treasury bill holding over Ukraine crisis
Transfer of more than $100bn out of US prompts speculation Russia is moving funds out of reach of possible sanctions

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/mar/14/russia-us-treasury-bill-bonds-ukraine-sanctions#start-of-comments

I think there is a bigger message here. A debtor is a slave and Putin might be sending a message that "if you push me, I have the ability to call my loan and affect the already fragile US market." People forget that Putin is a keen student of Judo and martial arts and his actions speak volumes to such.

The headline says it all.......Markets - FEAR - Russia.

A fan's comment

jeezanages • 2 hours ago

Mr. LLoyd, aren't we using phenomenal ex-players on our coaching staff and selection PANEL?. I mean,,,, Otis Gibson, Stuart Williams, Clyde Butts, Courtney Browne etc. Were they not world beaters and record breakers recently?,,,,,,,, Mr. Lloyd, that's what I call hitting the nail on the head. I guess proven failures like Andy Roberts, Joel Garner, Gordon Greenidge, Bryan Lara would not be considered for our present all conquering WI senior team's technical staff. that is exactly why they left you out of the WICB admin. line up.

I continue to admire your passion, but the facts are this.....

The selection panel can only choose from the best of the talent pool that is available and what you will find is that the guys that are selected usually are at the top of the stats in the regional competitions unless they've been tried before.

The problem with WI cricket continues to be a disjointed system where guys don't learn their craft before reaching test level. Experience and knowledge not being passed down by former players is only part of the problem. What we end up with is a lottery-like system where players work hard to reach Test or 20/20 level because that is where the money is and then their performance tails off because they rest on their laurels. Continued failure and a losing environment at the top level compounds this. Chanderpaul is the exception because of his singular focus to his craft.

With regard to coaching, great players also do not always make great the best coaches. They have to know how to effectively pass on their knowledge as well as having the patience to deal with players who may not be as instinctive at them with regard to their own game. Phil Simmons is a perfect example of a very good international and first class player who has transitioned to a really good coach. Ireland's results are testament to this.

I've give jack he jacket on this one. Or maybe couldn't get them to sing bout rum and bumper so he settle for this.

People can say what they want about Machel,  but he does things "outside the box" to stay  "fresh". Not the same old thing. This can also categorized as Love Zouk or Kizomba. Nice one.

I don't think this is a co-incidence especially since Boyz II Men have a Vegas show going on. He probably also watching how Kes and Bunji make more strides in a short time with a slower, stripped down approach. He just moving his brand and trying different angles to crack bigger markets. Same thing with doing Possessed with the Ladysmith fellas last year.........guess who just win Grammy for World music this year.

Blue shoulda leave that tune wherever he find it.
Iwer too.

My first thought was this tune is familiar; sounds recycled from the late 90's early 00's.

♫♫♫♫♫ Jump and Jump and Jump and Jump and Jump and Jump and wave and jump around...
♫♫♫♫♫ Bounce de yo yo and bounce de yo yo and bounce de yo yo iz time to leggo....

Lil piece of flag party and Bacchanal time in the mix.
Blue really have a formula but not really a strong song. Wonder if he have another in the mix?

My pick for de Groovy is still Farmer Nappy with Kerwyn and Skinny Fab in de mix for 3-4. Nappy have to come real good to top Machel on the night though.
