Cricket Anyone / Re: This is why Australia are so good.
« on: July 11, 2009, 04:21:09 AM »

With regard to Ponting, it is easy to talk about legacy, "the baggy green" and the importance of the past when your present needs are met by sponsorship $$ and a retainer contract. The whole "baggy green" concept is also great marketing by cricket australia to ensure that their players know the importance of representing Australia.

Closer to home, the reality is that most cricketers in the WI live a hand-to-mouth existence unless they play regularly. There is still a lot of talent in the WI, but there's no structure to develop the talent. Hence the inconsistent results.

Somehow the extra pace of the finals wicket seemed to undo the Sri Lankans. Good win by Pakistan nonetheless :beermug:

Kelis Says Nas Has Cut Her Off Without A Penny
Posted Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:58pm PDT by Andy Pemberton in Musictoob

Kelis says that estranged husband Nas has cut her off without a penny--just as she is expecting their child this month.

According to legal papers, rap star Nas is not paying any prenatal expenses and Kelis is flat broke. "I have run out of money," she said.

Kelis is asking a judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs, and other baby supplies.

Kelis says she is entitled to maintain the lifestyle she became accustomed to during their marriage. That was a lifestyle that involved owning expensive jewelery, like a diamond bracelet worth $190,000, a 9-carat, cushion-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring, and numerous watches "such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller, and Chopard." The couple also owns five homes.

Nas has not yet responded

Then we deserve to lose if we can't cope with the mental pressures of the game. I don't doubt that it is intense cricket or that it takes a lot out of them mentally. I have no sympathy nor will I accept that back to back matches in a Twenty20 format is so taxing that they cannot come out the next day and compete at 100% (physically and mentally). There are too many examples in sport of people who are taxed as much, if not more and come out the next day without any excuse for coming up short.

Therein lies the problem; our players do not have the professional ethic. The structure of the regional game has failed to instill this professional ethic in the current crop of players. Ergo, our players, having to learn to cope with professional demands of the modern game "on the job", have failed and will continue to fail to meet the standards of the modern game, unless the powers that be in the Caribbean do something to alter the structure of the game in the region drastically.

Of course, that is going to take a lot of $$, and I am not sure if the WICB is willing to spend the necessary money to make this happen.

:beermug: Finally someone seeing the light. The talent in WI cricket will always be there, but there is no structure to the system. We have guys learning their craft on the fly and expect consistent results. WI will always excel at 20/20 and shorter forms of the game because of the unpredictability (2 big overs and u win).......would you trust a doctor to save your life without him doing 7 yrs training + residency? (that is what we expect from WI)

Actually that is how most bowlers get 5 wicket hauls. Pick up two or three in the first spell and then clean up the tail enders in the afternoon. I doesn't matter if it is 4 tailenders or not because some days the best bowling spell can read 0-100. Besides, England could never play quality spin anyway hence Warne's Ashes success.

But cricket in de Savannah is a different story........plenty Ti Marie :beermug:

In cricket the good players cash in on weak opposition and punish weak/wayward bowling attacks or  weak batting sides. In comparing warne to murali you fail to account for the number of wickets warne took every ashes series. So you could say warne pad he stats against England
