Cricket Anyone / Re: TTCB replaces ‘more money’ players

The request of the players is not really an unreasonable one if there was an understanding that the board and players were to share revenue (however generous the share appears to be). The problem I have is the tactics of "no cricket eh playing here if we cyah get what we want!"

I understand that WIPA and Dinas have a job to do, but them tactics only create bad blood and animosity going forward.

Credit to them though.....they do get what they want in the end.

One of the greats........It is always amazing the talent that Trinidad produces and we as a people fail to recognize them...

Check out some of the other interviews in youtube on his playing style. Eddie Grant actually went looking for him after listening some of the old calypsos and asking who are the guitarists on the album.....not realizing it was one man playing.

If he had stayed retired there would be nothing they could do because of the statute of limitations. When he came out of retirement he reset the clock on the limitations and it allowed them to (I assume) retest past samples and make a case.

But I agree there is somewhat of a double standard.

What about Track & Field / Re: Paging Ato Boldon !!!!!!
« on: August 08, 2012, 12:11:05 AM »
I now coming to make a statement and say how impressed I am with Ato's analysis. The man is ACCURATE. Whenever he gives a breakdown and a projection as to what to look for, he is usually on point. Excellent job man.

I was just thinking how we as humans (not only Trinis) quick to criticize and pull down. But when it is time to praise and acknowledge we get quiet. I was guilty of that.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I'd like to say I think Ato is doing a masterful job. Great stuff. :applause: :applause:

That is the main thing I would give ATO credit for and continues to impress me with the work he is doing. When everyone was saying Jeter, Jeter, I remember him saying saying at the Jamaica trials "Don't sleep on SFP since she looks really good, she seems to be doing what she needs to do and is peaking at the right time".....and the results now speak for themselves. I have even noticed Tom once or twice mention a T&T athlete here there in the race if there is an outside chance....and that never happened before.

Grenadian Cocoa pod nothetheless, and on a side note...... how the fack de 100m final could be shown at 11.15pm US time when it done run since 4.50pm  :frustrated: :bs: :bs:

Olympic Discussion / Re: The Official London 2012 Olympics Thread

Dread, even in a subsequent rotation when Orozco had the high bar... He put down a solid routine, i didn't see any faults and neither did the commentators... His dismount and landing was not perfect but just a slight hop.

I watching gymnastics whole day and everyone who did flawless routines with a slight stumble on landing was getting between 15.3 and 15.7.. I make ah joke and say, "watch and see, dey go give de black man 14.something"... Yuh know dey really give him a sour 14.96.

Not too long after that, the German fella on the same high bar miss the whole bar and fall flat on his face.. Get up, jump back on and finish his routine.. I make a next joke and say, "well ah guess he go get a 14.something too like the black man"... Yuh know the man get a 14.3 or something so.  ???

Maybe is me eh understand the scoring, but something seem real off about that to me.. Even the people i was watching it admit it.

So iz you blight de man?............................ ;D ;D

105
That thing with kowlessar and them guys going on for years.....Rajah has been one of the few to vocal voices in Trinidad cricket. Most of the others stay quiet because they lining up coaching positions with the board.

106
Poland without a 400m, 400mH, or 800m finalist, banked on their 200m sprinter/finalist to lead off and get them into medal contention early. Then they never relinquished that position with "average" middle runners and their 400m semi-finalist on anchor.

Like their senior 4x400m teams they truly exemplify that T&F is a team sport, utilizing some shrewd tactics.

The T&T junior team that ran 3:05.9 in POS had Theon Lewis (48.1 PB) instead of Jereem Richards (46.7 PB), yet we ran slower. I can only assume the difference was the damp weather and tired legs from the guys running higher quality rounds throughout a global-level meet. We weren't going to beat the US today, but damn, Poland??

I find it incredulous that you are criticizing a young group of Trinbagonian atheletes representing our nation at the highest levels.

You would never find Jamaicans saying the things you just said about their youngsters.

The team won bronze and yet that eh good enough.   ;)

Note well, Poland ran the best time a team from that country ever ran.

But that criticism from STMB is as constructive as it gets. Nothing wrong with that. I have read quite a few of his posts and he seems to know a lot about the track and field. What is wrong with breaking down how Poland succeeded and possible reasons for T&T's times being a bit slower than expected? T&T could use some of the same tactics to succeed

That is a positive way of seeking constant improvement...which is what coaching is about.

JC I have always said that you have a wealth of information and many good points but sometimes it is lost in the delivery.....but I get what you saying. People often choose to see what they want to see and ignore the facts before them....like the coltan mines in congo and the mineral wealth of africa.

People made a big thing about the movie blood diamonds (and it has helped things), but ignored the fact the boys in Antwerp controlled the whole thing all along. Instead they choose to focus on the atrocities on the ground in Africa instead of the root cause.

In a sense you are right about egypt history since there were changes in power over time between the north and south where as I recall  the nubians were from the south and of darker complexion..hence the differences in depictions over time. The Greeks and romans came much much later.

With regard to the article, just because it is in JAMA does not make it completely legit. There has to be an analysis of the tests used, reliability etc, if the results were interpreted correctly or if the scientist extrapolated on weak data.

Feel free to correct me.,...

When we were researching this project, we found that there had been numerous Pyramid like structures scattered through out Northern Africa and the Sahara from Zanzibar, Sudan and the largest being in Egypt. The African Pyramids are not uniquely Egypt, but their immensity is! The paintings on the walls of KV62 and other chambers had faces and skin that is dark. I mean there was color compositions that were used on parts of the paintings were white, or cream color, why paint the faces of Tut and his family dark brown. Tut name's meaning was supposed to be "son or walking image of anul" Anul is dark in all depictions that I have found.

@ JC a lot of times these projects are privately funded and the funders have a say in the outcome in the final product. Eg is the T-Rex an apex predator or a scavenger, anatomically it's a scavenger but depicted as a predator.... or what was it's true color composition. A lot of times the artist rendition is heavily influenced by external factors or executive input. Would you like to be told that your whole history was based on a misconception?

Most Egyptians (today) don't consider themselves black, and despise being called "African"

@DHW no but I travelled a lot!

Nice post.........Doh forget that the pyramids in Egypt and througout Mexico were based on a Pi ratio (when Pi was supposed to be "dscovered" by the Greeks)

I have to remember that one....son of Anil....How Anil reach dey anyway? ;D

Don't mean to over throw the thread but on the idea of Aliens etc. here are some facts on space travel.
The closest galaxy to ours is 2mill light years away.  Now light speed is 180,000 mps. (Can't remember exactly).   A vessel at light speed would take 2 million years to get here.   Now let's say they are from some star in our own galaxy.  Even if the travel 1million miles a day it would take them 72,000 years to get to earth.  The closet star is called All-  something and it's 27.5 trillion miles from earth. :)
Plus space is not a vacuum anything traveling at speed of light will meet those particles in the form of unbelievable radiation.   So where could they be from?  And what are they?

And BTW JC that whole white man vs black man idea is a relatively new concept, no more that 4-5 hundred years old.  It's a New World device that worked.  But in the old world it was really about rich and poor and no one could deny the contributions of people with dark skin.  People of color had some many great empires.

That is based on physics as we know it presently....hence the reason for theories of space, time, wormholes etc.

I have been to Egypt and when you step in front of the pyramids, it blows you away like...."how de hell dey do dat?" When you look at the joints in some of the stonework, the intricate detail of the artifacts and the sheer size of the blocks, it really makes you wonder.."is modern man missing something?"

For all the back and forth love JC usually has with TC (lol), he raises some valid points that people doh really answer or choose to quietly ignore. In fact, Football supporter took the JC's same question and just asked it in a different way. No one questions Da Vinci and company because it is simply accepted without question that their work was a work of genius....not a man in an observatory communing with aliens.

No one really asks why the Egyptian libraries or Mayan libraries were destroyed, why the Sphinx's nose was used as target practice, or why many of the statues in egypt have their noses broken off.

Interesting thread nonetheless.........

When Ramdin strolled out to bat we were in big trouble on 152 for 5 with the new ball working well for the English, had Ramdin out then we would have folded for under 200,England would have scored a quick 300 and we would most likely lost if the weather didn't intervene.Viv is well known for his attitude to players, didn't some players complain to WIPA about his attitude and he eventuallyleft the job he was employed to do,didn't Lara confront him about something he wrote in the TT Guardian.Viv is always writing crap and the man cannot put 2 sentences together, his bloody rambling on BBC is embarrassing to listen to,it hurts my ears.I am still not sure why BBC employs Viv,I can only assume its for comedy value.
I did not agree with Ramdin's response to Viv's unwarranted personal attack on Ramdin and at the same time saying that his heart bleeds for Kirk Edwards, there is something there for Trinis and Muddies to digest, which I am sure they have in the years that Viv played. We all know about Viv's past and his aggressive response to anyone who dare say anything about him,who can forget the episode in the Caribbean when he burst into the Press Box to beat up a journalist who dare write about him. This present Windies team is a team of mediocrity and Viv shoud be offering help to them all instead of just attacking Ramdin,i can fully understand Ramdin's feelings and empathise with him but he has left himself open to ridicule by a large section of the Caribbean cricket loving people, that is why he should not have done it.I dont think Viv has said a word about the innings that Ramdin played, just shows what a vindictive man he is and that is well known about the man,we all know he was one of the greatest.

But Viv said what he said about Ramdin waaaay before the last test, and there was nothing personal about it.....he also said Kirk Edwards seems to have lost his confidence. What is wrong with that?

I don't get it. We want success but have a problem when mediocrity is criticised...

I supporting Ramdin here...

yes Viv is a legend cricketer but he is also a arrogant one at it...(he aint no Sobers for sure) that aside

If you in the media and you giving someone stick.... yuh should just as much be entitled tuh receive as well...

Holding, Fazeer, Botham....could talk all dey want....dem getting paid tuh talk ...how convenient..

Funny thing is, you never give a real reason for supporting Ramdin other than "Viv arrogant." What exactly is wrong with Viv saying that Ramdin has lost confidence and needs to buck up? He was saying that against the backdrop of earmarking Ramdin for future captaincy when he started his career.

I must say that I commend Sammy's handling of the issue and responses to the press regarding the same. It was handled in a mature way and hE continues to show his leadership qualities and man-management skills.

Actually in 2009/2010 Ramdhin did well with the bat.

He rightfully got dropped in 2011.
Came back this year and was amongst the best batsmen for TT.

Ppl have to remember that DR and the J'can (forget he name) are WKs first, unlike Dujon and R. Jacobs who were batsmen first. If you can get an average of 30 or more from these guys, be grateful.

VB

That is "long time" thinkingh. Yes, in most instances you would choose the pure wicketkeeper first, but the likes of Gilchrist and Sangakkara  (and even Healy) have changed perspectives a bit.

I think what Viv is getting at, is the batsmen (including Ramdin) are not adapting quickly enough to situations in the middle and not showing application. He singled out Ramdin because he expected better from him...especially the way his performances have fallen off and the way his career started.

The note only emphasized what Viv was saying.

Cricket Anyone / Why mess with a good thing?
« on: June 09, 2012, 09:46:31 AM »
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/David_Williams_named_TTCB_technical_director-158275945.html

Don't know all the ins and outs, but I wonder .."why mess with the success of the TT Senior team thus far?"

If the plan is to harness and develop talent, then why not have D Williams as technical director while he coordinates the youth set up to transition players to the Senior and international teams? A technical director should be on the ground coordinating and developing things to ensure there is a consistent philosophy of coaching, fitness and professionalism throughout the system to ensure smooth transition all the way up to international level. How can that happen while travelling with and preparing the TT team.

The timing is also interesting as it comes right before a big tournament and has only come as D Williams future as a WI head coach appears to have passed.

Ken Williams has had more success than any TT coach thus far and has done well, so I see no real merit in the change.

It will be interesting how the scenario unfolds.....

My XI:

Chris Gayle,
Lendl Simmons (or Charles)
Darren Bravo,
Marlon Samuels
Kieron Pollard,
Dwayne Bravo, (or Dwayne Smith,)
Darren Sammy (capt)
Denesh Ramdin (wk)
Fidel Edwards,
Ravi Rampaul,
Sunil Narine.

Andre Russell,Tino Best,
If young Bravo not in form then Samuels could bat 3 and Smith slide in at 4 and pollard 5. I also have no problem using Simmons as a keeper if I want to play an extra batsman or bowler. I still feel the the 3,4,5 slots need to be settled though.
