Eve's post match comments after 3-0 loss at home:

" We were outplayed by Curacao. They call their foreign born players for this match. 85% of them playing top flight football in Europe. While our guys are playing in the USL and Pro league. We are at an disadvantage because of the laws around getting a TT passport. ."

Eve has the potential. BUT he will be better suited working as an assistant AFTER he gets mentorship. THEN he might be ready to coach a small Island team and slowly move towards coaching the national team.

On the other hand, to be fair to Eve, can it be that we  don't produce quality players anymore?

Eve is trying his best. But his lack of experience coaching outside of Trinidad and Tobago is why he can't transform a poor performing team into a mediocre team.

I feel we go take licks tonight. It feels like the day of the USA game. I hope I'm wrong. Best luck team

He is coaching a small island team. With small island tactics at that! Doh get tings twisted.

Ah, kounty ... but for Raymond's enterprise there would have been no keen delivery of the ball that produced the goalscoring opportunity. That counts for more than a lil bit.

Defence Force’s Biggette gets Soca Warriors CNL call-up.
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian).

Defence Force goalkeeper Christopher Biggette, 27, is the lone un-capped player named in a 40-man provisional squad by Soca Warriors coach Angus Eve for their opening match of the upcoming 2023/2024 CONCACAF Nations League which kicks off on September 7 against Curacao at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

The Soca Warriors have been drawn in League A Group A with Curacao, El Salvador, Panama, Martinique, and Guatemala while Group B comprises Haiti, Jamaica, Honduras, Cuba, Suriname, and Grenada.

However, the Soca Warriors will only contest four matches in their pool based on the competition’s format with their opening fixture before travelling to El Salvador four days later.

T&T will then host Guatemala on October 13, and then play away to Curacao on October 17 to end their group campaign, after which the first and second-place finishers will advance to the CNL quarterfinals, where they will join the four top-ranked League A national teams.

The quarterfinal round will be played in a home-and-away format in the FIFA Match Window of November 2023, with the aggregate score winners in each quarterfinal matchup advancing to the 2024 CNL Finals and qualifying for the 2024 Conmebol Copa America.

The four seeded nations in the quarterfinals are (in alphabetical order): Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the USA.

The pairing for the quarterfinals will be determined based on the Concacaf Rankings of October 2023 (after the FIFA Window) and the 2023/24 CNL Group Stage results.

Along with Biggette, a former Jabloteh goalkeeper before making the switch to Defence Force whom he helped to the T&T Premier Football League and Knockout titles, Eve also recalled locally-based midfielders Tyrone Charles, Duane Muckette and Michael Poon-Angeron, all of AC Port-of-Spain, Tiger Tanks Club Sando striker Nathaniel James, the Defence Force trio of Reon Moore, Justin Garcia and Justin Sadoo as well as Ross Russell Jr of Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, and USA-based Jesse Williams.

The other locally based named in the 40-man squad include goalkeepers Marvin Phillip (AC PoS), and Denzil Smith (Club Sando), Joevin Jones (Police FC), Real Gill (Club Sando), and Alvin Jones (Club Sando), who were all part of the 23-men Concacaf Gold Cup squad.

Among the other notable players shortlisted are Sheldon Bateau (SK Beveren/Belgium), Kevin Molino of US Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew, AEK Athens’ Levi Garcia, who is nursing a groin injury, Leland Archer (Charleston Battery/USA), Nicklas Frenderup (Ranheim/Norway), Aubrey David (Alajuelense/Costa Rica), Ryan Telfer (Miami FC/USA), Tristan Hodge (Hartford Athletic/USA), Molik Khan (Minnesota United/USA), Neveal Hackshaw (Oakland Roots/USA), Ajani Fortune (Atlanta United/USA), and Andre Rampersad (HFX Wanderers/Canada) all members of the Gold Cup contingent while Canada-born midfielder Kristian Lee Him of IFK Eskilstuna, Daniel Phillips (St Johnstone), Jomal Williams (Once Deportivo), Canada-born striker Malcolm Shaw, and USA-based nippy winger Kaile Auvray.

At the Gold Cup, T&T ended with a 2-1 win-loss record in Group A after beating St Kitts/Nevis 3-0 before suffering heavy defeats against Jamaica 4-1, and then 6-0 versus the USA.

Following the squad of the squad Eve said he is always optimistic going into whatever tournament the team has and this will provide another opportunity for the team to come together.

With regards to his team’s chances of qualifying for the Copa America, Eve admitted that it will be a difficult task but at the same time, it will give the players the chance to improve their positioning in terms of enhance their chances of World Cup qualification.

Since being appointed in September 2021 when he replaced Englishman Terry Fenwich, Eve, 51, has enjoyed a record of 12 wins, nine draws, and seven defeats, and among his major wins, were a 9-0 triumph over Barbados and a 1-0 triumph away to Jamaica earlier this year in Jamaica, while his team also played to a 0-0 draw with Jamaica in March and with powerhouse Mexico to open their 2021 Gold Cup campaign.

Eve’s contract is expected to come up for review just ahead of the start of the 32-team Concacaf qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in March 2024 as part of a competition in which teams will play up to 12 matches to reach the tournament.

T&T 40-man Concacaf Nations League provisional squad:

Goalkeepers:

Christopher Biggette (Defence Force), Nicklas Frenderup (Ranheim IL—Norway), Marvin Phillip (AC Port of Spain), Denzil Smith (W Connection);

Defenders:

Leland Archer (Charleston Battery—USA), Sheldon Bateau (SK Beveren—Belgium), Aubrey David (SD Aucas—Ecuador), Justin Garcia (Defence Force), Shannon Gomez (San Antonio FC—USA), Triston Hodge (Hartford Athletic—USA), Alvin Jones, Josiah Trimmingham (both Club Sando), Joevin Jones (Police FC), Kareem Moses (FF Jaro—Finland), Andre Raymond (Dumiense CJP—Portugal), Ross Russell Jr (TLH Rangers), Luke Singh (Atletico Ottawa—Canada), Jesse Williams (Central Valley Fuego—USA);

Midfielders:

Michel-Poon Angeron, Duane Muckette (both AC Port of Spain), Ajani Fortune (Atlanta United—USA), Neveal Hackshaw (Oakland Roots SC—USA), Molik Khan (Minnesota United 2—USA), Kristian Lee Him (IFK Eskilstuna—Sweden), Daniel Phillips (St Johnstone—Scotland), Noah Powder (Northern Colorado Hailstorm—USA), Andre Rampersad (HFX Wanderers—Canada), Justin Sadoo (Defence Force);

Forwards:

Kaïlé Auvray (Sporting KC Academy—USA), Tyrone Charles (AC Port of Spain), Judah Garcia (AEK Athens B—Greece), Levi Garcia (AEK Athens FC—Greece), Kadeem Corbin, Real Gill, Nathaniel James (all Club Sando), Kevin Molino (Columbus Crew—USA), Reon Moore (Defence Force), Malcolm Shaw (Atletico Ottawa—Canada), Ryan Telfer (Miami FC—USA), Jomal Williams (Once Deportivo—El Salvador).

Ah guess, the memo that Aubrey is in Costa Rica (on loan) and not in Ecuador got stuck in the pipeline.

Eve claims to have been working behind the scenes and nothing shows as nothing has changed. He picked the same useless people. Not one new face. You telling me Darius Lewis at Botafogo, Antwoine Hackford at Sheffield both said "1. nah I good 2. I not ready yet 3. let me get right with my club 4. my passport expired or I don't have one".
But he pick useless Kareem Moses, Joevin, slow big belly Neveal & paper knee Molino still.

game was free on Concacf Go website last night (as for all the tournament). I think we ended up losing 2-1 to Honduras. The boys played the ball on the ground pretty well, but were not good defending and executing corners or handling (defending against) or delivering crosses. Didn't seem like any adjustments in formation are on the cards, so I assume will be just level licks for the rest of the tournament(?). #5, #10 and #11 were notable in attack / control [names were not on jerseys, so a squad list would be nice].

Post the link you used.

How Nigeria gifted England passage to the quarterfinals: Particularly disappointed by insistent aerial service to 2 v 5 + GK, numbers down, with no players joining late, repeat and rinse. Not impressed by that. Steups, especially when the template for success was proven as a threat in the initial stages when you were "man to man" and your team eventually gained a "man advantage". Solve the puzzle in 120' or at least make a credible attempt to do so, not pursue a lukewarm hedge in which you also play more slowly and actually accommodate or nullify the "man advantage". Not impressed.

Moreover, there was nothing in the approach to the penalties that justified the above. Big steups.

Levi Garcia update: Reported Celtic target decides on his future.
By Patrick Snat (67hailhail.com).

Celtic’s reported interest in Levi Garcia looks to be ending after reports in Greece have claimed he has agreed a new contract with AEK Athens.

Celtic were first linked with the Trinidad and Tobago striker back in April of this year after reports suggested that Celtic were keeping tabs on the 28-year-old.

Athens at that time had claimed that the striker was not for sale but the speculation continued after the Greek side’s owner appeared to suggest that a decision will be made on his future after the club’s Champions League group stage qualifiers.

The situation developed further in July when AEK rejected a €22m bid from Ligue 1 side Lens as they reiterated their ‘not for sale’ pledge to the French team.

It seems now that the saga may well be over as Greek outlet Sportime claim that Garcia has agreed a new contract with AEK and it seems like they have pushed out the boat for their star striker.

The report says that Garcia is set to double his current salary to €1.2m per season which includes bonuses. His contract is set to be extended until at least 2027 and he will become one of the club’s highest earners.

Celtic’s interest in Garcia probably ended the minute AEK set an asking price of €15m (£13.15m) back in May. Sportime say that price has now doubled for the Greek side to even consider letting their star striker leave.

But now, it seems that they don’t need to worry about that anymore. Garcia is expected to sign the new deal and it will bring an end to the ongoing rumours on the future of the international striker.

He must have been happy being underpaid and overly appreciated.

Why is that a headline? If I'm involved in the selection of my staff, why would I be dissatisfied with the quality of my coaching staff?

Certainly, there are assertions above that are unsubstantiated (Marcano's expertise in strength and conditioning and physical preparation as pertain to football) and subjective. Prima facie I could say dahis bullshit. Doh oversell the package.

Anyhow, iz de coach that has to be happy with his environment and this is merely another chapter of abbreviated preparation before a major competition ... so hodgepodge arrangements and transferable skills notwithstanding, the proof will be in the pudding regarding the Jack of All Trades and the to-be-determined assistant coach.

I understand lil damo's position. @Trini_2026, focusing on league quality is one thing, but one also has to consider the reality in the actual league. In the CPL, one man has been responsible for the presence of at least half of the T&T players in the league. Plus yuh have to abstract that list for those who emerged directly from T&T, rather than through other pathways emerged in Canada. Where in Canada is the compelling case for the T&T player being made otherwise? This is a supply and demand market. Iz one thing to be dismissive of a league, but the reality is that even if I accept your position wholeheartedly (I accept it to significant degree) ... you would concede that we should be at a place where there are T&T players present in the CPL, whether or not they necessarily command the attention of a NT coaching staff. Sadly, we are still at a place in which as soon as someone signs abroad they are rendered a NT candidate and that shouldn't be the case. Let the players focus on career building and let the NT figure out how to build a visionary program.

It also should be pointed out that on CPL squads three (3) players have to be Canadian and 21 or under and half of all international spots have to be U-23. On top of that, look at the profile of the foreign players in the league and the picture painted is that it ent exactly straightforward unless there is a strong coaching preference/discretion for a particular player and immigration requirements can be satisfied (which takes us back to the coaching preference/discretion that led to the Halifax players getting to Canada.

The issue is structural, but where exactly is the compelling case for our players being made?

All of the above stated, check Poon's age. His reality is changing drastically as the paint dries ... lehwe call it "overnight". Anything is possible, but if I am mapping this out on paper and I am a director of football, iz not likely I am riding for MPA as my presumptive choice. All things considered eh ... not just age.

The player has returned to Costa Rica on loan, where he will reunite with Paulo Wanchope. Cartaginés were in need of a versatile left-footed CB and the player was identified as fitting the bill.

Aside from Aubrey, three other Aucas players have been facilitated loans. Others departed without new contracts. Basically, Aucas is on a squad-trimming mission. By any measure, 50 players is a huge squad.

I would think he is the only T&T player who would have competed in the prestigious Copa Libertadores. Ah don't anticipate that anyone would join him on that podium anytime soon. Anyway, the very good $$$ is on the relationship with Aucas petering out upon the loan's expiration date.

Ah doh see Luis Fernando Suárez keeping this gig.

And so it came to pass: The NT coach of Costa Rica was dismissed yesterday following his presentation of a post-tournament report at a meeting and a subsequent 6-5 vote of the body with authority of decision. Notably, transparency was a feature of the day as the manner in which each decision-maker voted was made public.

The sole person retained from the coaching staff is former Costa Rica international, Douglas Sequeira --- who has seemingly been on a decade-long apprenticeship as an eventual NT coach.

Rampersad is better defensively and is the type of player that S Hart and A Eve like but M P Angeron is a much better all around player with more of a upside he is a better investment for the future the downside is if they bring back S Hart his chances of going abroad and developing would be over.

Quantifying upside vis-à-vis immediate needs comes with something ---  it presents a slippery slope.

See my other post. You are advocating NT selection as the building block of a career.

Poon started well in NT colors. Had some good outings when others around him were notably poor, but none of the appearances recommend wild assertions or exaggeration. Nothing also suggests he is done as a NT prospect.

It would have been interesting to see him play alongside Hyland.

If they bring back S Heart as the coach he will do the same thing he did before go back to playing that outdated English football were they get rid of there technically best players and go back to building a strong man team like he did before so M P Angeron days with the national team is pretty much numbered.

What may really number his days is whether he enhances his club affiliation or credentials.

This Panama brand is high risk and entertaining.
I've enjoyed watching them play whole tournament

Definitely produced a better outcome than supposedly low risk, a lack of enterprise and painful viewing. Anyhow, enough about pragmatism.

Was less fond of the PAN product during the group stage, but I've appreciated what they blossomed into during the "win or go home" phase. Better yet, players got to express their strengths and I would expect 2 to 3 of them to attract moves informed by that.

Christiansen is a good coach, but I still feel he committed malpractice last night. I am struggling with coaches whose attacking areas pedigree, as players, defy their choices in approach when on the touchline.

Actually think the risk-taking was modulated in the 2H but the match-up upon Gimenez's introduction was like not reading the headline of a newspaper.
