Football / Re: Which Intercol player had de BEST SEASON ever?
« on: November 07, 2008, 09:19:20 AM »
For goalscoring prowess ..Luciano woodley.
For total domination in ah season ...Verron Skinner
for totally taking intercol to hero worship status ...Ian ' the dead dribbler ' Clausel.
i dont think anyone has matched his following no matter how many goals they have scored.
Just an aside ...I remember Clausel wrongfooted an entire QRC defence with ah dribble ....I was watching it on TV ..First there were 4 QRC defenders on the screen ...then there were no QRC defenders on de screen ..even the cameraman was hard pressed to keep them all in the frame
So Ian Clausel gets my vote as the player who created the biggest sensation in college football ..maybe to this day.

Cyah speak on Woodley behalf, but otherwise, I totally endorse this post.
Trinity was damn near ah 1-man show, and successful too, with Skinner.
And as for Mr Clauzel... nothig more I could say. As ah small man, I used to ketch bus, taxi, bum drop, walk, ride bike, any means necessary, and go anyway Mucurapo play, just to see the Dread do his thing.

Football / Re: Your Greatest Football Memory!!!

In d army and stationed in Georgia, d army squad playing in a NE Georgia / South Carolina league. We have ah game at a Max Security Prison in SC (yes fellas, you read right, de prison had ah team). Dem prisoners, most ah dem cyah play no ball but dey getin into anything dat go giv dem some daylight and outside time. Talk bout kix.

We have to go through security and get thoroughly searched, bags, everything. dat take bout 2 hours. Yuh hearing all kinda alarms and gate opening and men filing outta buildings and being coralled like animals into some fenced-off bleachers. When ah tell yuh noise dey makin. Up top, it hav guards in serious riot gear patrolling wit shot guns. Tall tall walls with serious barbed wire.

De prison hav to provide ah ref because de official league refs say dey eh goin in dey. We coach leave it up to men who want to go and who dont. Few men say dey eh goin in no prison for no reason atoll. I had mi doubts because dem men in dey is killaz and serious criminals. But I is ah ball hoe and say well ah cyah afford to miss ah whole game. So i gone.

D man who reffin d game musta been ah baseball ref in ah former life. De man come out in ah baseball kinda uniform, do de baseball pose, eh blow no whistle and point d finger say, "play ball!"

Dem prisoners and dem hittin yuh football (American) tackle, dey blockin like football too and de ref eh blowin ahtoll. Soon as one ah we touch one ah dem, is "tweet." And doh talk back to de ref. He send one ah we players to sit on d side for 10 mins. One point, is 8 men we hav on d field. We score bout 15. Ref disallow 9. Ref disallow ah goal I score tellin me I kick it too hard.

Meet up ah Trini youth on d field playin for d prison. De man tell me he was runnin some illegal shit from FL to NY and get bite on 95 going thru SC.

I end up in ah argument wit ah man and tell him something like, "i see y your dumb ass in prison." de man signal another man on d side, ah buff, cut-up man looking like Mike Tyson, point at me and say, "this 1." Well I start watchin dat Mike Tyson man serious. De man say to me, "on d serious tip cuz, don't b staring at me because I will walk on that field and break your m/4kin jaw." And when ah tell yuh bout have d killa look. I say, coach, giv me ah sub dey. Coach say, "we done short, you cyah come off." I tell d ref, "you cheatin." Ref look at me, do he baseball move, blow he whistle and shout, "You're outta here!" and wit dat, I gone we.

After d game, d Trini youth showin me d Chuck Taylor Converse he sweatin in, tear up socks and ting. So I give him my addidas, and socks. Hear him nah, "dais all yuh hav? Yuh cyah give mi dem shorts, yuh jersey, any other socks and sneakers yuh bring? I go be here real long and I eh hav nutten Dread. I takin anyting. Thank yuh Jah."

By far my most memorable game I have ever played.

Just like de other day, with the thread here bout d one in Louisianna who de people let in dey house because he was coachin dey son... only to find him tryin to bull dey son soon as night fall. Another sick 4kin Trini.

Anyway, ah like Andre argument for Lara, but ah going with Dwight on this.

Since ah man mention Garnet Craig, I go throw another name in.

Although I will admit that I don't know what, if anything, he did at the National level, this man was a boss in college:

Veron Skinner.

Football / Re: 'El Do' stop San Juan in SSFL East Zone.
« on: September 29, 2008, 02:31:26 PM »
I have a question:

I hear on here all the time that SSFL gone through and that the standard has dropped. I was wondering if that is indeed true, or is it really something else.

Back in the day, before all the exposure to all the top class foreign leagues, the frame of reference for good ball would have been the various leagues around T&T, like Savannah ball, various small-goal leagues, Eddie Hart, T&TFA etc. In that case, the gap between that and SSFL would have been much narrower.

Now men routinely watching Serie A, Premiership, Spanish League etc. If you get used to watching that, I could only imagine a SSFL game being a major let-down.

I'll admit that I haven't seen a SSFL game in YEARS, so I really don't know. I was just wondering. Any comments?

Just Cool, I understand what yuh tryin to say about Stern and Latas in the last third of the game eh.

De problem with that is, by that time, de team will be in such a sink hole (with regards to the score line), that it go take Stern, Latas and JC (not you eh, the other JC) to pull we outta it.

Yeah, this is a bomb squad...

Until the 11 players walk out on the field and whistle blow.

Because bomb squad doh necessarily translate to good team.

Damn near every game, is one sat ah changes. That's why there is no chemistry, no flow, no continuity, no combination, no knock, NO ATTACK. Did I say NO ATTACK? Because NO ATTACK leads to no goals, which leads to no wins. I was in Toyota Park (and had to scramble my @$$ back to Houston to prepare for Ike - LOL)

And maybe is just me, but why run out against DR, and risk key injuries, a few days before a CRUCIAL qualifier

STEUPS!!!

Who makin these f*#@in decisions???

USA look real beatable in that game...scored from a defensive blunder of of ah clearance from the US keeper..we could more dan beat dis team Wed if we doh come out and play like we fraid dem..we not suppose to come out ah that game without points.

Agree. De key is to attack them. They looked vulnerable when Cuba attacked. If we play that knock around in the back BS, is all over. We have to run at them, but stay diciplined in the back. Cuba didn't give them any space and that held them in check for most of the game.

The thing about these articles too is that usually, nothing is said about the question that was posed. A man responds to a question but only the response is printed. That could easily lead to interpretation of arrogance.

That said, I don't think it was an arrogant comment either. the man clearly noted that T&T is a capable team, but that he feels they can handle the challenge if they play to their full potential. Nutten wrong wit dat. I making the trip to see it unfold for miself.

A close second would be meh boy & neighbour Stephen Choy Yuen from Cameron Road in Petit Valley.  Doh mind he used to go CIC...he was a wicked baller!    ;D ;D

I agree with yuh on Jap (Choy Yuen). Me and he play ball together from U14 to 1st eleven.

Of the entire US squad that played Poland, only 3 play in the MLS. As that trend continues, and as their players make it to the bigger and better leagues, and they will, they will develop the technical aspects that they supposedly lack.

Plateau???

I highly doubt it.

Ronaldo is my favorite player of all time.

But if he doh cool it, he could be on one ah dem power scooters/power chair commercials talking bout "we will even do the paperwork and have medicare or medicaid pay for it."

Is only so much medicine and operations could do. At some point, you just have to make good decisions for your over-all long term well-being.

Football / Re: Caledonia puts on Reggae For Life concert
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:43:05 AM »
It's funny to me, that a football club, needing to raise funds to cover operating expenses, have to throw a concert of any kind. Why, because people eh going to see dem play ball no way.

But you know what? Credit to them for thinking "out the box" like someone else said.

Now the question is, which would have the greater returns, i.e. which option would make more money given the timetable; (i) a soca concert, or (ii) a reggae concert.

The objective is to make money, not to be patriotic. Because patriotism eh getting them no where. People prefer to stay home and watch Spanish, Italian and English ball, rather then to go watch, and in so doing, support, Trinidadian ball, some ah de same people who criticizing them for throwing a reggae concert. Funny...

And the fact that the club have to choose a reggae concert over a soca concert, is a much bigger "social" issue.

I doh see nutten wrong with that. Credit to Caledonia AIA. Dey doing what dey have to do.

My favorite player of all time.

When yuh consider the injuries he's suffered, in his prime, and the fact that through comeback after comeback, injuries persists, I would say it is in his best interest to hang it up now. He is older and his body's ability to recover probably isn't at its peak anymore. He's left his fans with more than enough to cherish. He's left his mark in every facet of the game. God Bless R9.

kick in ah block - when yuh shoot as ah another man come with ah hard tackle

captain america shield - when ah man could real screen it, use his body to shield the ball

dat shot (shirt) missin buttons - when ah man hit ah real weak shot

you is Dino Zoff or what - small goal and ah man standing up in the goal like a keeper

he take yuh mate - when ah man push de ball thru another man legs

put mi off nah - when yuh try to sub ah so-called bad man

de man have la-glee on he foot - when ah man have real control and de ball seem to stick to his foot

buss de onion bag - small goal and onion bags used in place of net

Football / Re: MEXICO V USA
« on: February 07, 2008, 01:56:51 PM »
Slates, de man yuh talking bout is Bofo Bautista, a player dey ex-coach declined to pick for Germany. He played a few months back too in the previous game versus de US ... buh that set-up was differently structured with Cuauhtemoc Blanco in the mix. He's a player that should leave the country buh dat is something that has been on and off again ... ah eh know if it's inconsistency or jes comfortable he comfortable in Mexico.

I am a fan of the MEX national team but for some inexplicable reason ah cyah stand more than drops at a time of the MEX league. Iz something ah actively trying to resolve.

Anyway, if Hugo Sanchez keeps him at this level of responsibility it could be tears and curtains for many. Mexico has so many assets and they are a model for incorporating young players. I think they do this better than any country in CONCACAF.

Dat youth, de #10, look like a real boss last night. At one time, it seems like Onyewu just decide to run him over whenever he get the ball, because they had to answer for him. Then the #7, was creating space for himself and causing the defence real headaches on the left of the attacking third. Don't know his name either. But the place got deffening when they announced that Dos Santos was coming on. But he didn't real do anything much. I hated to see the #10 get subbed, because he was the MOM in my opinion.

I kept thinking, if these men play like that, quick, crisp, one-touch passes, they will mash-up a T&T defence. I was surprised at how they would disect the US defense, much easier than I expected. If Mex was bent on long range shooting (from outside the 18), they would have had many, many chances. But one thing aout the US, the may not play the most attractive ball, but they are difficult to beat.

Don't know if you saw it on TV, but Tim Howard put some licks on a Mex forward. While that was happening, someone got hurt at the opposite end of the field so I suppose the cameras would have been on that instead. Howard tackled the youth and took the ball, then he quickly released it down the wing. The youth apparently ran into Howard after Howard released the ball. Next thing, yuh know, Howard went down, but immediately, he grabbed the youth legs and flipped him to the ground and hit him bout 3 hurry hands real real quick. I was sure he was going to get a Red, but I was so absorbed watching that, that I didn't notice Ref, Linesmen and everybody else down the field in Mex half, concentrating on a player on the ground. Otherwise, Howard was getting a Red for sure.

I went to this game last night. Wife bought de tickets online and yuh get to choose whether yuh for Mex or USA. So I thought we were sitting on de US side. Dred, dat was a home game for Mex. De opposite side was only Green. My side was bout 80% green. Lil fight break out when dey disallow Dempsey goal. 1 fella with he face paint red/white/blue, in de middle of a sea of Mexicans. I say he have to be drunk.

Mex #10 was poison, turning on a dime. Mex real carve up some space in US defense and had by far, the better attacking plays. Mex ran more, passed quicker and better and played with more purpose. Not that the US was bad, but Mex was on their game.

As an obvious non-hispanic, dem Mexicans obviously took me for American. Out of respect, me, wife and de 3 kids stand up for de Mex Anthem. When de US anthem start, all de mex dem near me, turn to face us and purposely sit down. Well I start to laugh, cause I thinking, all-yuh eh offendin me. I like my shit eh, but with wife and kids dey, I tell miself I eh go "F" with dem too much. When US score, I start to celebrate, just to "F" with dem lil bit. Mih lil son was all up on de seats celebrating. But on de whole, I like to see good ball play, doh matter who, so when Mex score, I applaud. Next thing, ah fella (Mex) put ah beer in my hand and sit down right nex to me. From dey, was me and he back and forth. Nice experience. Real F-in noise in dat indoor stadium, non-stop.

me and you nearly cross paths dred...fuh ah second I considered delaying mih return to check dis one out.  How Reliant Stadium strike yuh, from ah footballing standpoint?

Reliant NICE. De roof was closed, so it was real noise, real excitement and even more so because of the rivalry. From walking up to the Stadium to walking out, it was real tense because dem Mexicans was loud, vocal and PATRIOTIC. And again, since they obviously mistook me for American, they directed their taunts my way. But you know me Dred... I wish I had a frickin US flag to wave back in dey face. De US flag I does put up for Memorial and Veterans day, too big. LOL

If we'd talked, maybe I woulde try to persuade yuh to come thru.

TT, yuh eh lie... boy, ah see... anyway... I know better than to get into dat on de forum. LOL

I hope they play some of the WCQ here though.
