At the non-business end of the table, Derby is now truly screwed - US investment or not. Less than zero points. Ah doubt the other former Evertonian will join them in the 3rd tier!
Having mentioned Bournemouth in the prior post, I should add Derby's defeat of Bournemouth today (3-2) takes Derby to 0 points. Incredible stuff and certainly a trivia question in the making in a decade or so. It would be a serious story if Derby starts ruffling feathers and ascends the table, clear of the relegation zone.
For all the accolades heaped on Simeone regarding AM's defensive solidity, these capitulations are a bit much. 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3. What a way to squander 2 points. That goal in the dregs is similar to what Barca conceded on Saturday 3-3 tie as well. Aspas is a goal scoring machine in La Liga, he's been consistently doing the heavy lifting for Celta Vigo.
Although not sure from where the 7 minutes stoppage emerged.

There should be no doubts now that this situation could have escalated.Given what's going on currently, yes it could've took a turn for the worse.
Agreed. That's why I thought he should've gotten a yellow for the shove (which the guy milked btw) since most players will have some sort of reaction based on the challenge. If Levi said something in addition then the red can be justified. The other player should've had a red card too, don't you think?Wow. That was not justified imo! Even though Levi shoved him near the end of the brawl, that guy was riding Levi's back like a horse. didn't coming close to challenging for the ball. If anything he should've gotten the red and Levi a yellow. I would love to hear the referees assessment on this in the report.Evidently it is not what was done to him but all about how he reacted.
I enjoyed that interview with Nevick, one thing with him is he keeps it real. No political answers.
What about the constant references to El Jefe?
Solid points. Just recently someone asked me what I thought of everything surrounding Osaka and I remembered how she seems to be crying in press interviews while speaking about her mental health. While it seems like a new generational thing, within the last couple of years I see more and more athletes are coming out and speaking on it even though they don't go into much detail. I watch a podcast called "I Am Athlete" and former NFL player, Brandon Marshall, is one of the hosts and he is the poster child for speaking up on mental health issues. He is the first one that I can recall who really shed light on the issue on a grand scale from an athletes perspective. Social media can be a blessing and a curse, if I were a professional athlete and used it, I won't read my mentions.Lots of generational fragility floating around. Naomi Osaka, Sydney McL ...
Do you think the mental health issues these young athletes deal with is primarily because of social media and the access fans have to them?
Seems to turn on (a) what people think about them (b) their view of who they are as individuals (c) some measure of social discomfort and the like.
If the fans and followers are there for resonance and adulation, then it seems consistent that the fans and followers are also a convenient/inconvenient medium/ go-to-audience when folly or difficulty take center stage.
There is also a gendered dynamic and a race and ethnicity component in the mix. Women and "minorities".
Also, elite athletes distill everything through a competitive lens and personal satisfaction. Dahis likely a variable in the potpurri.
A NZ cyclist also succumbed to these challenges after the Olympics. Her Instagram quotes Kurt Cobain --- 🧸💿‘𝚃𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚔 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚐𝚎𝚍𝚢, 𝙸 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍 𝚒𝚝 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚖𝚢 𝚊𝚛𝚝’ - Kurt Cobain ➳ 🐚☁️.
Probably not a one size fits all reality, but it also seems that social media is a beneficiary of athletes coming of age in a supposedly "non-confrontational" society that abounds with micro-aggressions.
EDIT: So ... anyone who relied on ah ole school "haul yuh arse" seems to have received value without the 21st century social media angst.
Some keys to longevity according to those living it.
Social media had a field day, she was trending all over. Even Majah Hype had a skit.Richardson got blown away. No competition.
Iz NOW she really going to go and hold ah medi!
I was waiting for Ato to speak about the performance. I know he wasnt going to hold back.Good for him. It's the sport he's passionate about and was outstanding at the highest levels. He of all people has the cachet to put them on blast.
You sure it wasn't Darrel Brown they liked too? Darrel Brown moved to Jamaica to train with MVP (Asafa, Shelly Ann). Darrel got a lot of love from the Jamaicans. When he won the WJ in Jamaica, the talk was that him and Bolt will be the kings of Track and field. I know this because I know his cousin well. Now you say it it could've been Brown and Burns. They all spoke very highly of those two in particular, like full props.
1. Some schools have more or less killed "Sports Day" ... with that in progress, how much prestige or influence could athletics bodies have at schools or in the country? Athletics bodies should be lobbying and raising awareness and heightening the prestige of T&F. However, there seems to be a limited view of the level of activism required. When I was in college my roommate for 2 years was on the track team and he was from JA. His friend from secondary school in JA transferred in from TCU and was on the track team as well. I also had a teammate on the football team from JA and the 4 of us would lime in my room at nights and often times they would speak about the biggest track and field event in JA secondary schools, "Champs". According to them it is the granddaddy of all track and field events. Packed stadium each day, seemed like everybody and they mammy showed up. The atmosphere they described didn't come close to secondary schools sports day in the Hasely Crawford stadium and that used to be a big thing.
Athletes would like seats filled and fans applauding, but if there are next to no fans, at a minimum they would like to have events at which to participate.
Woeful situation.
Look how easily La Liga lost its player of reference. But, boss move by Messi to deliver a Sunday press conference at noon. Nevertheless: torturous to view him dealing with that punch to the gut. If Maradona was alive he would be raining big stone on Barcelona.Ent! That former Barca president apparently was a spendthrift. La Liga's most prized and box office possession got kicked out the door, watch how their ratings will fall.
0Don't forget Deeks
St Hillaire got injured. I think we would have gotten a medal if he did not. Oh well. So it go.
Sando, I know you ain't talking about me. Go and check who does post on here. Is only me, socapro, you, asylumseeker and AB. Other guys come in here every now and again. But that doesn't mean they can't comment.
I'll put my hand up and sdmit that I'm an infrequent track poster as I don't follow the sport closely but I do come on here to read about our athletes from time to time. This is the most quiet I've seen this forum during the past 3 or even 4 Olympics since I've been on this site. Now if the track fans found a home on social media then I have no problems with that but it just felt strange it's not as virbrant as it used to be. I'll just follow along on the FB page dedicated to T&T athletes.2020 Tokyo Olympics track events going on this thread quiet. When you see that we must really be in a bad state....anyway I noticed we had a three guys advance to the 400m semi's...Lendore, Cedenio and St. Hillaire....all the best fellas!!!
How often do you guys ever post in the Track and Field forum? Of course its quiet and should remain so with so many casual track fans members in here. Let the real track and field fans get together on social media
I remember that quote an absolute classic from Dutty if my memory serves me right lolWe really have zero men in the 100m individual event? What a shame. Michelle Ahye do yuh ting, I'll be proud no matter what
That by itself should spark a revolt.
To tief from a legendary forum quote/post, the contrast of having NO 100m individuals with that of Jamaica having competitors in everything from "duck breeding, DNA testing, basketweaving, CB radio repair, Mongolian recipes,12th century European grammar, Turkish military tactics, Colombian drug lords, the Borneo rainforest, the Ming dynasty, Peruvian ant farming, Lord of the Rings, Kantian theory, 14th century Portuguese dressmaking, Namibian pottery, blacksmithing, kapuera or marsupial gestation cycles" is a stark indictment of everything that has happened since Montreal 1976.
Nicholas Paul and Kwesi Browne will compete next week. I am expecting really good results from Nicholas Paul
Anyway I am following T&T Olympic athletes from this FB page
https://www.facebook.com/TeamTrinbago/
Thanks! Looks like we had a couple athletes participate in events already. All the best to our three cyclists!
I remember during the last Olypmics we had a thread dedicated to when our athletes were going to compete and that kept me informed of how we were doing. Did we have anyone compete in anything yet?
