2020 Tokyo Olympics track events going on this thread quiet. When you see that we must really be in a bad state....anyway I noticed we had a three guys advance to the 400m semi's...Lendore, Cedenio and St. Hillaire....all the best fellas!!!

How often do you guys ever post in the Track and Field forum? Of course its quiet and should remain so with so many casual track fans members in here. Let the real track and field fans get together on social media
I'll put my hand up and sdmit that I'm an infrequent track poster as I don't follow the sport closely but I do come on here to read about our athletes from time to time. This is the most quiet I've seen this forum during the past 3 or even 4 Olympics since I've been on this site. Now if the track fans found a home on social media then I have no problems with that but it just felt strange it's not as virbrant as it used to be. I'll just follow along on the FB page dedicated to T&T athletes.

We really have zero men in the 100m individual event? What a shame. Michelle Ahye do yuh ting, I'll be proud no matter what

That by itself should spark a revolt.

To tief from a legendary forum quote/post, the contrast of having NO 100m individuals with that of Jamaica having competitors in everything from "duck breeding, DNA testing, basketweaving, CB radio repair, Mongolian recipes,12th century European grammar, Turkish military tactics, Colombian drug lords, the Borneo rainforest, the Ming dynasty, Peruvian ant farming, Lord of the Rings, Kantian theory, 14th century Portuguese dressmaking, Namibian pottery, blacksmithing, kapuera or marsupial gestation cycles" is a stark indictment of everything that has happened since Montreal 1976.

I remember that quote an absolute classic from Dutty if my memory serves me right lol

All the best to our three cyclists!

I remember during the last Olypmics we had a thread dedicated to when our athletes were going to compete and that kept me informed of how we were doing. Did we have anyone compete in anything yet?

https://newsday.co.tt/2021/07/22/rower-aisha-chow-gets-team-ttos-olympic-campaign-under-way-at-tokyo-games/
Thanks! Looks like we had a couple athletes participate in events already.

Anybody watched the opening ceremony ?
I watched parts of it, saw T&T but it looked like most of our athletes didn’t participate. I was surprised to see they had athletes come together in numbers for the opening ceremony given the Covid situation.

Youtube lets you set the playback speed. Slow down to 0.25X under Settings (the gear wheel symbol below) and check out the screen that Powder eat for the Guatemala goal. All the defensive heads on the board - how you defend against this?
You have to anticipate that they can set a screen, players do this reguarly on corners and set pieces. I'm sure this is not the first time Powder or our players has experienced this at his level. I give Guatemala credit because they executed it well but when defending you and your teammates have to be on the same page/communicate that if one player gets screened and is obstructed, the other teammate go with the player and the one who was screened take the player he was marking. If not the open player who came off the screen will always be open to attack those balls.
Another way to defend it is through zonal marking where the players are responsible for certain spaces, since they're not man marking it's harder to set a screen....but that could cause problems if the lacks chemistry as it could lead to uncertainty and players assuming the other teammate would've cleared that ball.
But yea, I noticed that's what happened to Powder on the goal last night but by the time he recovered it was too late.

Although that moment in time is the obvious critical moment, there are other questions that can be asked about the entire defensive organization. We have 11 players defending that corner. They have 9 players placed to support or attack the corner. The outcome of the corner shouldn't have turned exclusively on what was in part a 3 v 3 matchup that went belly-up, but these things happen. Doesn't just come down to Powder.
Totally agree with your assessment here and the way in which you broke it down further. Lack of fitness leads to lack of concentration and we were clearly gassed in the second half, could've been a factor in this situation. Similarly in El Salvador's second goal, we had two players ball watching in the midst of a scramble to get the ball over the line, first thing I thought was fitness. Hopefully these details and issues can be corrected going forward.

« on: July 20, 2021, 11:58:42 AM »
Here are some key points I gleaned from this effort:
1. X's and O's are a small part of success. A Coach's personality makes a huge difference in morale and spirit which can ultimately lead to success
2. Fitness was obviously a key factor! There were too many turnovers; playing faster; loss of concentration. These are all elements that improve with game fitness.
3. With the next WC opportunity in 2026, Angus should now turn its sights to bringing in a much younger squad. At least 10 of the squad are in their 30's. Only goalkeepers are likely to have good performances in their late 30's.
4. Use the next few years to schedule games in every available opportunity. (Over the next few months, WC qualifiers would be looking for games).
5. All the minute steps forward would be meaningless unless the administration (whichever survives this normalization process) gets serious about working for the issues of the country and not for self-gratification and personal gain.
6. Get the local league up and running soo the local players get some game fitness.
7. Stop this local players vs foreign players bs and select the best available players, whether foreign or local.

Go Warriors!

Messi finally win a big international tournament out of the Oliympics. Congrats! And Brazil .....
Yea bro, happy for Messi after all he did for football. Neymar hopefully can win a trophy with Brazil in the near future.

Neymar like Messi has already won Copa America and Olympics. What both don't have is WC.
I thought Neymar won a copa before but I swore the commentator said last night that he’s yet to win a major trophy with Brazil. It could very well be that I heard wrong lol

Mexican fans on social media real blaming the ref, bout they should’ve had 2 penalties. Oh and they’ll never get banned from the Gold Cup because they’re a cash cow for CONCACAF and they give the tournament ratings.
what goes around come full circle, maybe not right away but one things for sure the wheels of justice may turn slow but none the less it turns. in 2017 jovin jones scored a cracker at the national stadium and the jamaican assistant ref called it off side, no one made a meal of it and we eventually went on the lose the game 1-0, but we took it on the chin and moved on, and though i hurt at the time all we could have done was walk it or sleep it off. i for one walked from the stadium to ariputa ave sad and disappointed, now it's their turn so i suggest they do the same, hold a salvassa and sulk.
Yup don’t mind them, I remember that with Jones. They had numerous opportunities and couldn’t convert so it’s silly to blame the ref. As for the alleged racists chants, they claim the fans were chanting “puto” and it’s not racist.
The player who went off injured looked like he got hit in the eye, hope he’s doing alright.

If his father was Trini, I would say we had a chance. His father is not.
What if mom's is more convincing? Beleive it or not, I think T&T has a shot if we learn to recruit players properly. It's all about strategy and making the player and his family feel embraced. Make him feel like he's going to be part of something special and has a strong chance to earn a spot to turn our program around. Show them direction and projectry of the program in the next 3-5 years and the part he can play if he accepts the challenge. If he's isn't selected for Scotland, this is not far fetched we just need some tact in recruiting.

Well done T&T really happy for the result. In these tournament type games you just have to win and advance, even if it comes ugly.
Now that we won a couple things I was surprized by in the pk shootout:
1) We won the toss and allowed them to shoot first. I'm sure we have our reasons but these days almost all teams who wins the toss tends to shoot first due to the physcological aspect. The pressure tends to be on the team kicking 2nd.
2) Molino our main (maybe best) and experienced kicker went last. What if our 4th kicker missed? Then Molino won't have kicked considering how things went. This was the same mistake Portugal did at a tounament allowing CR7 to go last and he never got the opportunity to kick, needless to say Portugal lost. I watched ARG in the shootout last night, Messi went first, he's not waiting until 5.
Again things worked out in our favor so I can't critize it but I was just suprized at those two decisions. Nevermind me, I think of random stuff at times. Goodluck against Mexico fellas!!!

listen to what T&T goalkeeper had to say about T&T performance. I applaud the man for being honest. T&T played shit!

If Frenderup was included by Lawrence, I doubt we would've been in this position.

If we lost the game, I doubt Frenderup would be flying across the Atlantic for future games.

Frenderup now OWNS that spot between the pipes. Phillip and Foncette lucky if they ever play for the NT again.
I hope they keep up their hard work and service cause you never know when they might be needed. Like Shaka and Jack. Supporters could be great or dump on the team, we don’t have to train to talk shit, but all these guys have to show up everyday, work their asses off to face successes or embarrassment and live with their play, good or bad. Thanks for your work guys, now turn it up. Stay healthy, we need you at your best. Good Luck all. Again thanks for the extended run.

Add: wait nah, is Mexico we beating on Saturday, ahready?

Manchester United agree deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund
https://theathletic.com/news/jadon-sancho-manchester-united-transfer/Q8IrchHyvnAu

Manchester United have agreed a deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund to sign England international Jadon Sancho for an initial €85 million (£72.6 million).

United and Sancho will now finalise personal terms ahead of a medical to complete the move. Sancho is expected to sign a five-year contract until 2026.

Sancho, 21, is currently part of England’s squad at Euro 2020.

Prior to the revelation of this squad, I made a list of 10 players who I viewed as indispensable to success. 7 of the 10 are in this squad. Another 6 players I expected to be selected although I don't regard them as indispensable. That's 13 players out of 26. 50% return of the included. Not exactly compelling.
Now I'm curious as to who the 7 and 3 players are

Hyland
Molino
David
Frenderup
Levi
Muckette
Phillips
Rampersad
Hodge
Judah

That's the 10.
That a good mix, I still need to see more of Phillips and interestingly enough he's not in the squad....I thought he would've been selected.
