Football / Re: Yorke: I waited all night for a call
« on: September 02, 2006, 02:25:06 PM »
From his emotional responses, it is clear that York was in his element in Sidney. I'm not sure he would have the same drive in England. Too many sharks nipping at him there. There is absolutely no doubt about his ability; but his heart was in sidney. . . .

Still Got it. Not as precise. But still a very high calibre of player. Makes you wonder if we played a bit more attacking style of football at the cup if we wouldn't have really upset some teams.

Compre,
I've often wondered if its our laid back carribbean culture thats greatly bears upon the psychie. I know there are many factors which conspire to derail the efforts of even the most ambitious but ultimately individuals MUST want it bad enough.

Ato along with Fitzwilliams et al make the circuit around the primary and secondary schools motivating the youth. I've read some of what Ato has to say and was impressed and thankful for what he had to share.

Anyway ah see yuh have the right idea for the next generation. . . .

Well we always had that natural talent, but what I really want him to unearth ,is that inner fire that defines great players from average players. You know that ability to go to the next level ,to turn it up ah another notch e.g Giggs .Find that trigger and concacaf is ours. :beermug:

I guess in Jesus times when healed the lepers, the blind man etc there was no doctors so that is why they were healed. I will appreciate if you stop dissing Marvin's faith. The injury he got on camp was not the same injury thus he was healed.

I know the man personally, because he coached me at a time when college football in trini was boss,he was always involved in every aspect of the game,so I ask of all don't judge because you may disagree with him for taking a stance on what he saw as the teams flaws on a coaching level,he would be doing an injustice to himself if he did,nt sound off at some point,if anyone is qualified to do it,is gally he earns that right.

I would like guys on this site to think for second,if no one objected or expressed how they feel it would'nt be a democracy and at the end of the day don't matter what you do or say you'll be criticized for doing it anyway.

Kappy. . . .I wit yuh on this one.

wrong approach. . .
Pinto ... don't try to shroud Gally's overtly negative and destructive points in a democracy argument ... he has seen an opportunity where he can stake a personal claim ... in self intrest ... b/c of all the local coaches who could do anything with a team it will be him ... he's a good coach ... but he should not discredit the team and coach for what they have achieved ... to make himself a better candidate he should be suggesting ways to improve and build a solid foundation for TnT football.  his approach is entirely wrong at this point ... unless the powers that be swallow their pride for the sake of our country we would be waiting another 40 years or more for this opportunity to come again.

Gally,
If perchance you're reading this, permit me to say my two cents.

Every Trinbagonion is PROUD of the '73 AND '89 teams. No one and nothing can erase the sentiments and memories those two teams have creared. No one doubts your great love and committment to the local game and its unique kaisoca Soccer. However, your approach to the administration (even if you feel you have legitimate reason for agnst) is counter productive, and actually leaves a bad example for others to follow. There is too much "I" in your language. Lincoln is successful partly because he seems to know how to work with others (who may somtimes be antagonistic toward him). Any, be it Trinidad or anywhere in the world, groun you work with will pose ego problems and pettiness issues. You just need to put the game before yourself.

Just my two cents.

Football / Re: Zidane against the Brazilian settled once and for all!
« on: July 03, 2006, 08:35:41 PM »
Zidane is one of my favourite footbalers of all time.

He boss the game yesterday

But let's be honest here please.

Try and put aside emotion.....and the whole "I eh ready to give up my crown yet" lyrics.

Zidane excelled yesterday because he is Zidane YES....but also because he played Brazil.  Brazil is a team where they don't believe in cancelling out another player.  They play and let you play.  They just believe, and justifiably so given all their success in every major footballing tournament to date, that their quality will overcome yours.

Yesterday they were wrong.  But Zidane WILL NOT get the same room he had yesterday against the likes of Italy, Germany, or a Scolari coached Portugal.  Not going to happen.

Not discounting what we saw yesterday from Zizou because that was a masterclass...just like Latas' 23 minutes against Paraguay.  But that is the difference between allowing a great player FOR THE MOST PART, the freedom to do what he does best, and a philosophy which says...hey...we doh care if allyuh beat we...but YOU not beatin we.  The idea in that philosophy being...if we take YOU (i.e. Zidane) out of your natural game, the rest of the team cyah beat we.

We comparin Zidane and Ronaldinho...but to be fair, Zidane never had 2 and 3 men constantly on him anytime he approach the ball the way Ronaldinho experiences.

I look forward to more Zizou magic in the following games but I honestly not expecting the same type of freedom he had yesterday.

Well said, couldn't have said it better.

« on: July 03, 2006, 07:16:40 PM »
Freak ah hear yuh concern, buh one ting I've come to appreciate about being TRINI is that we doh have tuh be like every body else. I was filled with pride with the responses of the rest of the world at our behaviour following the results of the Sweeden and English game. They were bewildered that we didn't cuss anybody, wear long faces etc. we celebrated (LIFE). I personally learn't alot from that because I had the same concern you are expressing. I seriously doh think anyone in T&T was happy or OK with loosing, but we accentuate the positives.....

Sam, you are a man I like to read whenever I come on this forum and I've been a regular visitor since the year 2000. yuh always looking for ways to promote T&T Football and yuh tell it as it is.

It sound like TTFF could use a good marketing director. I also wonder if the relationship between TTFF and the ruling party are in good working relations.

I guess the question that surfaces is whose role is it to ensure the success of T&T football? I know we all are responsible in some way but we the fans can only do so much. Our hands are tied.

Although Jack is controversial, he does get some (many?) things right. Does the Gov't realize what T&T stand to gain by a successful campaign? I doh think so. The tourism, lessening of crime, national pride, a certain amount of wealth, prestige, respect, and the list goes on and on.

As usual good ideas, bredda.

So Rooney could get away with murder??

First of all yuh tellin de youth he go score the winner in the final. Den yuh tellin people leave him alone because England needs him.. Yuh setting up the youth to self distruct.. He need discipline and to flourish within the rules like everybody else. . . It is leaders like Erickson who set people up to fail... my opinion. . .

One thing T&T's performance proved, "I thought",  was that the lads ;D when called upon or when given the opportunity, can step up to the next level. As a matter of fact those of us who live abroad know of the mental toughness it requires to succeed (as opposed to our Trini culture of I cool man tings easy). The team, to me, exemplified professionalism and a level of mental toughness that gave me hope, real hope, of an effective future for Trinidad and Tobago football. Maybe I'm just dreaming. . . . The locals did WELLLLLLL

In one of the national newspapers yesterday the team manager stated that there was no request by any of the players for a million dollars and a piece of land. I'm not sure what should be done but there certainly should be some recognition appropriate to commemorate the historic achievement as incentive to others and to savor the milestone. But I hear yuh.

Alright fellas we jumping on man back for "criticizing" Adu's ambivalence. And while it is true that there should be a call for "understanding", do we have innsinuate that man stupit or lack sense. Why we Trinis so?

I would not like to be in Adu's shoes. On the one hand the US is probably bribing him with all kinda ting. But home is home. Pressure from parents, coach, big clubs etc.

It says something when humble, "naive" nice Trinidadians dislike yuh.

My point? Trinis doh jus go around disliking people juss so. We doh have a habit of putting dong other nations without a cause. To borrow a phrase from their own president, "We are peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger."

Read some of the other posts and you will see how Trinis will congratulate England fans when we lose. The US seize every opportunity to belittle us. How can we like them or wish their program well when hat is how they treat us?
