Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Jamaica Game (18-Nov-2014)
« on: November 18, 2014, 10:06:11 PM »
From the time I saw Hyland heading to take that penalty I knew it was over. I think he believes he is a lot better than he actually is. Which in itself isn't bad, but I feel when he looks in the mirror, he sees Messi staring back at him. I'm not upset about the penalty miss, it happens. But he has never impressed me as a competent, confident midfielder. At least KJ scores every once in a while.

First off, well done to the sponsors for making an investment in a local football club. Now, here's my problem. Why is it that every time a pro league outfit gets a new sponsor(s), the name of the team has to change? I find it foolish and I'll tell you why. For a football club to be successful, especially on an international level, one of the things it must have is its own identity. It must be its own brand. The club comes first and should be its own entity. Case and point. Have you ever heard of A.I.G Manchester United, Fly Emirates Real Madrid or Samsung Mobile Chelsea F.C.? Sounds bloody ridiculous doesn't it? Sponsors don't run the club. They assist with expenses and get advertising and exposure for their business in return. That's why their logos are on stadium boards, vehicles and team kits. Football clubs should represent a community, town or city. Not a company (United Petrotrin), a region (Central F.C.) or an entire god forsaken island (Tobago United). Play Whe San Jan Jabloteh....seriously!!! Get real club owners. This nonsense going on too long and makes the pro league look idiotic.

Well, many European clubs have given up their stadium name to sponsors. But clubs names in Europe have brand names which have taken over 100 years to establish. In T&T, there are no real brand names as such. In order to attract sponsors, you need to offer something. No real replica shirt sales, no big attendances so stadium advertising isn't viable, no live tv coverage, so all you have left is your name in the paper. We had Directv North East Stars, then Adams Construction San Juan Jabloteh, then Directv W.Connection. Doesn't make any difference to the team, but brings in some cash.
SocaWarriors.net Central F.C. is available for $1 million per year, guys!

Good talk.

Excellent analysis supporter. All the clubs really have to offer is their name in the paper. They really need to find a way to change that though.

I wonder if the men team had squandered such an opportunity if we would just resign ourselves to say hard luck. You would hear how shitty KJ is and how Bleeder only pulling stones. But is "girls" so that's okay they tried.
[/quote]

This is an excellent comment. Just because it's a female team doesn't mean they get a free pass. Of course, I don't necessarily blame the girls for falling short. I think they always give everything they have and should be commended with their efforts. The problem is  that they don't have much to give. Our teams are constantly being set up to fail because they are not getting the necessary tools (proper training, facilities, quality opposition, etc) by the powers that be, in order to be competitive on an international level  :banginghead:. Without major improvements from the administrative side, the team will go no where.

first up milkyx  all due respect to you , many have expressed disappointement , frustration, even downright anger , and to be fair to all,  some  if not all have a right to such ! keep in mind our ladies football  is in  many aspects still in its early years  yet , ( infancy)  .. we have made stride   , we  will hopefully continue to grow and  blossom into one of the regions top teams ,  that should be the objective  with continuity at all levels ..... i sincerely hope our federation don't lose sight of that .!!....    i  hear you  loud and clear , do not dispair , hopefully with the right mechanism put in place by our present  football federation and officials,  the moment to celebrate will be all ours not long from now ......   with that being said  i'm proud of the ladies  for their efforts........... from all appearances a lack of  fitness was a factor today.......  ..
Bro, I agree with everything you say and I know that women's football in T&T is still in its infancy. I just think we've been stuck in this infancy stage too long and can do better. Bottom line, old TTFF, Ministry of sport and who else ever, real stick.

ok milkyx yuh got yuh wish  what now ....!!    proud  of you all .... keep your heads up  ...
It wasn't my wish for them to lose. I simply said that instead of always hoping and praying for a world cup spot, lets get the job done with preparation, hard work and consistent effort. I'm sick and tired of ALMOST qualifiying, and always fighting for the last playoff ticket. Bloody ridiculous! We should be the best team in CONCACAF. We have more talent here than the entire United States. You reap what you sow. If you don't put the work in, don't expect to end up at the world cup. Who vex loss.

There you go people. 6 - 0. A true representation of how far off the spectrum our women's football really is. Destruction, as I predicted. Don't get your hopes up for the third place game either. Stop praying for miracles. If you fail to prepare....y'all know the rest. Hopefully the TTFA will continue to improve the way they do things so all our teams will improve in years to come.

You're being incredibly negative, in foorball anything can happen, and a good day for us and a bad day for them is all we need. It didnt take rocket science to predict a big loss - the US womens team is the brazil of womens soccer, supported excellently for decades whilst T&T's programme is still young. Reacting like its the end of thr world is a bit too much I think

What do you mean by that?

You're right to pull me up - I misspoke - I meant to say the programme is less 'mature' than other countries in terms of attention and resources put in it.
Perhaps you didn't read my earlier comment before this one, where I explained that the Americans have put tremendous resources, time, training and consistent effort into making a potent national outfit. Bottom line is, they take their football seriously, while we always throwing "something" against the wall and hoping it stick. We've got to stop this "hope for the best" formula in our approach to sport. I support the team and wish them well. I'm not being NEGATIVE. I'm saying let's create better teams and players by doing things early, properly and consistently, so we won't be praying for a stupid miracle every-time we're in a tournament.

We definitely do not rest anyone for the match versus the USA. This is what the girls have been training for. We play all our starters as usual, we play the game like we have been all tournament & that is too attack and keep attacking. We saw what happened with the U-17's recently when they tried to defend only. Their is no energy to attack when you are chasing the ball in your half all the time.

I would play a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3 and instruct our wide mid-fielders of their responsibilities on both sides of the ball (that is providing we have practiced these formations throughout our training-sessions). If we rest our best & then we get smoked everyone's "mindsets" will be deflated. Our confidence is high right now despite what just occurred against the Mexican's & we need every ounce of confidence we can muster moving forward. We will get scored on however everyone's mindsets must be that we can also score. Just my two cents for what it is worth.

Cheers   19

3-4-3 or 3-5-2 vs the USA 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 is asking to be destroyed.
First off, it doesn't matter what formation is used or who plays, they will be destroyed. These are the facts. The U.S. takes their football (especially women's football) seriously. We do not. The U.S. makes sure their teams are well prepared, well trained (from early) and regularly play against quality opposition, we do not. They put a support system in place so players can excel to and maintain their full potential. Lord knows we do not. It is time T&T stop playing the fool with this try ah thing football. This goes for the men too. Do the research, get the resources,go to work and be consistent with your efforts. That's how you qualify for a world cup. Not hoping and praying for a miracle. Ridiculousness.

I don't know what all the excitement on the news was about. I swear they had qualified for the world cup. All this drama cause they made the Concacaf semi finals for the first time. And then lose 0 - 3 (No surprise) to Mexico to come second in the group, and get U.S.A who will destroy us. Women's football in T&T is still in its infancy. Nice try ladies and even though its not y'all fault, you girls ain't even dream to be ready for a world cup.

Football / Re: Is being a defender better for Kenwyne Jones?
« on: October 18, 2013, 06:57:55 PM »
I've heard on many occasions that Kenwyne  Jones was initially a defender. He is tall and powerful, jumps well, and has the speed that any decent right back should have. After watching the match on Tuesday and observing Kenwyne for a number of years, I wonder if a return to the back-line is something he and Mr Hart should consider seriously.
For all his attributes, Kenwyne seems to be missing the one thing that would make him a great striker. Finishing prowess. It's a part of his game that's inconsistent to say the least, most evident by his constant difficulty in finishing one on one chances at club and international level. Chances that any true striker would put away blind folded.
Is it his defensive upbringing coming to the surface? Should he consider playing a role like that of David Luiz or Leighton Banes? And if so, who could possibly fill that number 9 shirt as the top goal hunter not to mention that attacking midfield role the team seems to be lacking. Love to hear the comments. Peace.

this post was warranted after the loss to guyana and even before that but what I am seeing from KJ now, hes a changed player, i enjoy him up top and he is earning it... he continues to grow with Hart and I believe he will take us through to 2018 imho...
I actually agree with you. I only brought this up because I heard a lot of fans at the game and online mention it. He may not be world class yet but he's the best we have up front. Also, he's young enough to improve his game to greater heights. He also needs a SS or AM to play off of. Playing hime up front alone isn't helping. Let's hope he has a great season a club level this year.

Well done to the young women of the U17 team. Enjoy the moment and go on the bigger and better things. I am afraid however, as previously mentioned ,that they will not be kept together and made into a great squad than can qualify for a senior world cup. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

No interference from suit wearing, wine drinking, SUV driving socialites that would twist and manipulate SWO for their own selfish ends. SWO is the batman on the football justice league. That's why our football will never go to the next level, as long as we keep this just relax attitude. We satisfied with a good fight, a nice play and a one nil loss to Mexico. We seem to forget that the point of the whole matter is to win the tournament. Manchester City made the final of the F.A. Cup, finished second in the premier league and competed in the champions league last season. Good enough you might say. Guess what, Mancini still got fired. We accept too little for the enormous amount of talent we have. We'll never win the any tournament with that just relax nonsense.

Milky, you're pretty 'new' here so you don't realize that everybody already done know that...these guys on here been saying the same thing for mad years now.  No one here believes in mediocrity. But by the same token, you have to sit back and be realistic with the hand we were dealth coming in to the tournament.  Corruption...theft...controversy...lack of direction...just hired a new coach 3 weeks ago...and all kinda drama.

The team right now is in a RE-BUILDING mode.  This is a Soca Warrior team that most people thought wouldn't even make it out of the first rounds, farless compete with the likes of Mexico.

Can we win tournaments and beat anyone on the planet --- I believe 'YES we can", and I'm betting that almost EVERYONE on this site believes the same thing.  Do I believe that we can do those great things 'today' (this early in the re-building process)? Truthfully the answer is we're not quite ready yet, but we have the great foundation to build upon.

So yeah, Fari is quite right.  Everyone wants to win, but most of the 'veterans' here understand what's at stake, and what it'll take to get us where we need to be to become those 'world-beaters'.  So for now...cool yuh herbs.    :beermug:

Spot on there Outside!
Now you make perfect sense. I agree with what you say. But my comment wasn't specifically directed to this particular team, coach or most of the people in the forum 'veteran' guy. Its Trini people in general not seeing the bigger picture. We always seem to be happy with the scrums that fall off the table, when the Turkey on the table. If you can't understand that, well I don't know what to tell you.

Milky --- Ah not too sure which Trini people you know...but de Trinis I know don't go for 'crumbs'. They want de entire spread on the dinner table, and the spread on the dinner tables tables on de entire block.  The Trini people I know prefer to sit at the head of the table, even if it's not their table.  And, ah hear what you're saying, but I have to step in and tell you that no one here is celebrating a loss.  But people are celebrating a start.  It's been a LONG time since we all witnessed a T&T team playing with heart and determination...and I among many was the biggest critic of the team, up until the just before the Honduras game.  I admit that I'm extremely guilty of that...being a real critic.

But the team changed my mind with the Honduras display...I saw a spark of something special that was missing from my Warriors/STRIKE SQUAD (Yes, I still say 'Strike Squad'...lol) for ages.  We're on our way back.  If anything, people here are optimistic about our team's future.

Stay tuned, eh.   :beermug:  :beermug:  :beermug:

We'll all drink to that..Cheers  ;D

Ball possesion: SPN 67% - SWT 33%. SHOTS TOTAL: SPN 22 - SWT 6. CORNERS: SPN 12 - SWT 3. Guess what son....Spain lost 0 - 1. Good call there Milky ; I also think that we are a society that rewards mediocrity and, as a result, never really aspire to excellence, but given the abysmal performances of this team in the recent past, celebrating a fighting loss to the current champions  is understandable.....what's important is that we see this as a mile post along the journey rather than the destination.

You right. I'm just saying we shouldn't be drinking champagne like we win the tournament. Applause will suffice.

mexico desreved the win....hush yuh tail, it was a good effort although i felt abu bakr should have done better with marking jimenez.

we are rebuilding, it has nothing to do with satisfaction with mediocrity.
Mexico deserved to win? ARE YOU SERIOUS!  Deserve you say...like they play some world class football! You hush your tail!! That Mexican coach almost get a heart attack cause if he lost, he would be out of a job. T&T deserve to win cause Mexico has the better team, the better coach and 99% of the fans in the stadium were backing Mexico. Boy go and sleep eh.

Man people need to relax...
The warriors play good!
