The push into youth development is very positive. I have been watching the youth series on Sundays.
The modern game is a bit different from times past therefore we have to get it right at the youth level.

In youth development TIME and SPACE are the two most important factors for their development. These two factors affect their SPEED of PLAY.

We cant have young kids playing full field 11 v 11.

Mr Technical Director it's quite simple to do your research and find out the appropriate field size for the age group...if you can't find the information inbox me and I will be happy to provide it.

Football / We are Caught in a Loop but We Can Get Out
« on: February 22, 2015, 09:11:14 PM »
Sometimes when history is ignored a "dogma  loop" results. Essentially this dogma loop comes about when the employment strategies are repeated over and over again without taking into consideration the lessons that experience has taught.

Our football is more than 100 years old. I ask the question: What are the fundamental beliefs that underpin the application of our footballing capabilities?

Do we have a network of knowledge reinforced by experience which lays the pattern for utilization of tactics and players?

Do we have a basic doctrine which serves as the building block for strategy and a reference  guide for National Coaches?

I can sense that there is no such doctrine because our National Coaches are always operating from their own personal doctrine.

It is in the best interest of Trinidad and Tobago football future that such doctrine be formulated.

The current situation is what it is...we are in "the loop"...we cannot expect the TTFA to get us out of it now... how do we proceed?

The National Coaches have to be very methodical in their planning process.

Basically only two problems were identified by the Men's Senior team head Coach:

1. Financial Constraints

2. The inadequate preparedness of players to play at the international level

The desired end goal of all football is victory on the football field. In order for coaches to achieve this desired end the coaches must be able to do well:

1. Plan

2. Execute

3. Assess

4. Adapt to influence

5. Change systems or capabilities in order to achieve the desired end

There are three ways to achieve football's desired end:

1. Annihilation - overwhelming the opposition

2. Attrition - Wearing down the opposition

3. An Effects based approach to the way your and your team operate

To get out of this loop I can see us adopting an Effects based approach i.e being able to apply the above two approaches but giving way to adaptability based on the nature of the challenges which we are faced.
This practical approach takes into consideration the full array of outcomes and anticipates a wide range of options as well as unintended consequences.

The two positive points made by the National Senior team Coach which prompted me to write this paper were:

1. Player Adaptation

2. Continual Assessment

The Effects based approach are driven by desired ends, expressed in terms of desired effects, not by availability of resources or capabilities of the players.

We must realize that human element is the thing that makes the difference...when human wills clash creativity and adaptability can emerge from chaos.

Where humans are concerned, unlike machines, the sum of the parts doesn't equal the whole. Small inputs can lead to large outputs. Conversely poor choices can lead to huge inputs to yield on game day
insignificant outputs.

The Coach doesn't have the luxury of many International friendlies, so it's up to the coach's planning ability. All possible outcomes, seen and unforseen must be considered. An attempt to create the challenges and the environment has to be done to expose the players.

The Coach must becareful not to get lost in Execution that is not effects- based, which has little or no strategy, little or no anticipation of adaptation to opponents actions.

Assessment must be continuous. Player performance must be measured relative to actions and effectiveness of those actions in terms of creating the desired effects.

 Assessment feeds future planning.

The last thing I'll say on this topic is on Strategy:

The paradoxical nature of effective strategy sometimes require that inefficient means be employed.

Football / When You Have Cocoa in Sun
« on: February 18, 2015, 11:11:53 PM »
'When you have Cocoa in sun you must look out for rain'...it's an old saying in Trinidad...another old saying is ...'take in front before de front take you'...

These are the  strategic tools adopted by our National Coaches..

Mr Hart's blueprint:
Panama would have played 5x more than us before a Gold Cup.

Our Senior players oversees not playing full 90 min games

Our Local league is too short

Pro League matches only sustain 40 mins of high intensity

The International pool of players is too small

Local players don't get enough competition.

Mr cooper:

No proper Academies in Trinidad

Coaches not preparing players to play at the next level

Coaches not teaching the fundamentals

Players are not courageous

Players lack both technical skills and tactical awareness

National Coaches spend too much time teaching fundamentals of the game

We like a Panorama side..

This is a modern trend in Trinidad football...my question is...if these coaches are so handicapped ..why did they take the job?

Never in the history of Trinidad Football has there been more money for National Teams.

Never in Trinidad history has there been better facilities

Never in Trinidad history has there been a shortage of players without talent or potential

Why now?

Never in Trinidad History I have seen coaches come out and air out dirty laundry in this fashion

I am saying that these coaches should have been aware of the challenges of the job going in and have a plan to meet and overcome these challenges...it is the nature of that job.

I have never heard Roderick Warner complain like that...back in those days big men like Brow and Saddles and Brian Williams and few other players from south squeeze up in one old car to go Port-of-Spain for training..I see dat wid my own two eyes..Those players and coaches represent with pride and nobody was airing no dirty laundry..back then all the players were amateurs..Strike Squad was an amateur team..

Stop making excuses and step up Coaches!

Football / Trinidad and Tobago Football should be Restructured
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:40:23 PM »
Centralized control of power under a single, Football Tsar may not be the best approach.

Control should be pushed downward thereby decentralizing control.

Downward at least one echelon ..this I mean the various regions North, South, East, West, Tobago.

Football / My Criticism of Coach King and TTFA is Unfair
« on: January 15, 2015, 10:03:26 PM »
It is unfair of me to criticize King and the TTFA in the negative fashion which I have done in the past.
Coach King is a tactically sound coach. He has demonstrated this by going two goals up against Jamaica, beating Aruba by five goals and enjoying most of the possesion against Guatemala.

It is unfair of me to criticize because the TTFA selected a coach with a good track record. However, neither the TTFA nor King understands the difference between Strategy and Tactics and how these two concepts interrelate.

The guatemala coach ( who is Argentine) is well aware of this and allowed us to have most of the possesion which allowed us to commit most of the errors in the game...two errors cost us the game. At the end of the game the Guatemala coach said it was unlucky for us to lose in this fashion.

We have a long way to go with our football and hopefully one day in my lifetime we would get there.

I would like to wish Coach King the best of luck in the next couple of games.

Football / I Apologize to members of this Forum

Members ..I openly apologize to all of you. I would like to say that I was unaware of the racist remarks I made however I have offended people and for that I am sorry.
Trinidad is a place of many races and racism in Trinidad is not a problem anymore like back in the old days. We are all one people with love in our hearts for all people. We used to have problems with classism back in the old days but here again we have grown into one class with one love.
May God Bless our Nation..Together we aspire..together we achieve.

Football / Trinidad Football Has No Future
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:54:31 PM »
Trinidad Football has no future because we do not have a National Strategy.
Strategy in its most fundamental sense is nothing more than a plan of action that organizes efforts to achieve an objective.
Just as it is difficult to score a bull's-eye without a target, it is also difficult to devise a successful plan of action unless one knows the objective of that plan.
If the objectives are ill defined, inconsistent, or unsupported by some degree of national consensus, then the strategists function becomes exceedingly difficult.
Thus , all the strategists/coaches in Trinidad have no clear vision of the National objective.
The strategist/coach's first task is to able to define the national football objectives that form the foundation of the strategy process.

Football / Next Assignment For Shawn Cooper
« on: April 11, 2013, 08:37:02 PM »
Gentlemen I had the chance to sit and watch over 90% of the match u17 vs Costa Rica, and I must say that I saw consistency. I must say that I am impressed because I had such low expectations to begin with.
It doesn't matter to me the outcome on Saturday but Mr Cooper demonstrated more knowledge about putting a team together than Mr Shabazz..by far..I think that Mr Cooper should take over reins of the senior team for the upcoming Gold Cup.
The man has vision and talent as a coach and I feel that he has  come of age in this tournament.
Mr Cooper demonstrated that he had a solid plan to play without the ball, a plan to win the ball back, and a plan to execute once the ball has been retrieved.
I like the way he got through to the players in such a short space of time to understand the concept of the first defender, the role of the second defender the  3rd defender is not so clear but acceptable.
The use of his formation is based on the Dutch model and is acceptable to us. Four defenders.. and when the right back goes forward we have three in the back with a recovering CB to make four..solid defence.
We could beat anybody if we had more preparation under this coach.
Please let us support this young local talent and let him and his staff know that they are playing world class football .
Cooper for National Coach. Hutson Charles could be a part of the staff as an advisor/manager. Kudos the Cooper, Marcelle and Leonson Lewis for their hard work.

Barack Obama have commissioned scientists to map and study the brain. We know more about outerspace than we know of our own brain.
Football has also recognized the power of the brain. New concepts at the fore such as "Life Kineticks",
"Ballrithmics" and "Brain Centered Learning" all focused on multiple learning systems which provides for faster more profound and proficient learning by players.
Many coaches and trainers have been using, adopting and exploring this type of learning.
The direction that football is going in the future would be centered around this creative  type of learning environment; Systems would become a thing of the past  and the  players would have total control of what goes on on the field of play. Coaches would be there to help players prepare and provide inspiration.
Barcelona is already showing us what the possibilities are.

Football / From International Player to Head Coach of National Team
« on: April 02, 2013, 11:14:13 AM »
Should it be a requirement that the National Team Coach come from the prior National Team pool ?
I raise this question because I noticed that in Trinidad and Jamaica, the reins would be easily handed over to a former player. Does playing at an international or professional level qualifies the individual ?
I would also like to point out that some of the most successful and creative coaches on the planet have never played at such a level.
Coaches such as Leo Beenhaaker, Jose Mourinho,  Vitor Pereira, Andre Villas Boas, Robin Dutt, Gerard Houllier.
Houllier was a school teacher and coached the little kids at his school, Dutt went from coaching an amateur side to coach Stuttgart, Pereira went from coaching kids to Porto's assistant Coach to AVB I am sure we are all aware of Mourinho's history.
Any takers?

Football / 4-4-2 and the flat back four
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:35:16 AM »
This European system adopted by Shabazz has never been successfully implemented in Trinidad except under Beenhaaker. We all know Beenhaaker played a system of football that was purely one dimensional (everybody behind the ball and take no risks).
So if nobody else had success in the past why now? It doesn't really matter to me what system is played as long as there is a clear plan in place to make the necessary adjustments to the dynamic changes which occur during a match. We must be prepared to play without the ball as well as be purposeful and goal oriented with the ball.
This flat 4-4-2 is not looking comfortable for the players..the forwards are not getting close support from the midfield in attack and the back four is not getting the required pressure on the ball from the midfield on defence.
The midfield lack cohesiveness because they are not in close support of each other.
Now 4-4-2 is a nice formation and I would still go with it but instead of the linear formation I would go with 2 diamonds and number the players 1 thru 11.
Back in the 1800s wars were fought  with soldiers lined up in rows which made them easy targets for cannon fire. The U.S Army fought the Indians using the same tactics to no avail for more than twenty years the Army couldn't get the upperhand ...it was not until that Indians themselves who served with the Army taught the Army how to employ the various tactics that Indians used, then and only then the Indians were defeated.
Many of those same fighting tactics formed  basis of fighting in  modern warfare almost all of special ops/forces  are taken out of the pages of  the Indian wars.

Football / Problems not highlighted in the Belize Match
« on: March 24, 2013, 08:10:46 PM »
Problems not highlighted are:
No clear plan as to how we play when we don't have possession;
There is no 1st nor 2nd defender at the point of attack and the balance is all over the field;
Even if we outnumber our opponents in midfield we end up as spectators in no man's land;
No assigned defensive screen;
Denzil Theobald is expected to do too much defensively;
Recovery is slow;
The back four is not sure what to do when the midfield breeched;
We have no head hunter.. the two face #10 had too much freedom
Kenwyn Jones was not effective he doesn't fit into this puzzle..just the basic function of being in the presence of the opposing sweeper obstructing his vision was never accomplished.

Football / The Value of Statistics in Football
« on: February 18, 2013, 08:12:52 PM »
I am wondering if the National Coaches or any of the Coaches in Trinidad and Tobago make use of statistics. In the modern game, the use of statistics is the principal driver in player selection. It would be very easy to gather pertinent statistics on the player pool of say.. the Pro League in Trinidad as a way to determine through measurement, the quality of players that you have and to make selections in an unbiased way. Can anyone shed light on this?

Football / Work in Progress..Shabazz Satisfied
« on: February 09, 2013, 11:44:44 PM »
We will not get out of the first round in the Gold Cup, unless the  football mafia rig up the thing  so that we could advance. That kind of football that I saw there ..where people just running thru the midfield with so much time and space..the people had so much time that they were able to run with ball ..pass the ball to self..then pass to a teammate who had time and space to receive and pass to himself before setting up a shot. This kind of football where players make way for their opponents..where there is virtually no genuine striker..no defensive midfield and no real sweeper.. should not be tolerated in Trinidad and Tobago. There was one or two good purposeful attacking developments from the midfield but no forward line ...none whatsoever..

Football / Yuh team is only as good as yuh keeper
« on: December 17, 2012, 09:12:19 PM »
Jan Michael didn't make a mistake..the man demostrated that he can't handle the long range shots..I saw that he had problems with both long range efforts; he needs to work on that in training not technical training which entails shot blocking but tactical which increases the level of difficulty by adding the element of surprise. This man supposed to be a full professional. I have seen goal keeper errors made due to lapse in concentration, however this is not the case.

« on: September 08, 2010, 08:39:30 PM »
Experience should not be gained at the expense of the players on the National team. This not good for the players' confidence.I believe that a coach has to go through a lot at lower levels before getting a National outfit.Latapy was given this opportunity because he is who he is.Coaching is a different ball of wax.

Football / Youth Development is the Key
« on: January 14, 2010, 08:22:28 PM »
Youth Development is the only way forward for Trinidad and Tobago to be sucessful at the next level.Mr Warner spent millions on his Joe Public Club,if he would spend half of that on a youth Development program Trinidad would be better for it.It is also important for coaches to be educated; Many coaches who coach kids are not qualified. Trinidad and Tobago celebrated 100yrs of Football, yet there isn't a philisophy of coaching. Jamaica have gone ahead of us,they have a National Coaches Association.. when will we lead the way?
