Yeah he should be running sub 45 by now

He was given lane 1!!!

Has anyone ever run sub 45 in lane 1? I dont think that he has run sub 45 for this season. Hopefully this changes for him.

Ron Freeman ran 44.41 from lane one in 1968 behind Lee Evans and Larry James, and followed up with a 43.2 relay leg that only was surpassed in the 90's

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Former Jamaican track star Raymond Stewart, who went on to coach banished American sprinter Jerome Young and others, has been kicked out of the sport for life for obtaining performance-enhancing drugs for his athletes.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced the ban Monday, after an arbitration panel determined Stewart bought drugs from Angel Memo Heredia, whose cooperation has been used in investigations of banned coach Trevor Graham, sprinter Crystal Cox and others.

Stewart was a 100-meter specialist who appeared in four Olympics for Jamaica and won a silver medal in the 400-meter relay at the 1984 Games.

He joins Graham and Remi Korchemny as the third coach to be kicked out of track for a role in helping athletes obtain and take drugs.

Oh brother this is exactly about Trinis like you who take out your own lack of accomplishments via jealousy.

Of all names "Trinity Cross"? And that's how you'll treat your own brother?

Brown may be done, or he may not, so though the rest of us red, white and black true sons of the soil will support him through not just his good times but challenging times like these, you so could continue to waste down the man.

Big man you are, god bless you, because things have a funny way of turning back around

668
As the wise have suggested "If you all have nothing good to say, hush..."

I'm sure when he was setting records as a junior you all were beating your chest with Trini pride...

Regardless of his condition and future, respect the man for what he has done for the country...have you contributed as much? Can you contribute even a fifth? If so respond with your real name and your accomplishments!!

Let go of this Trini sickness of kicking its racehorses when they are down or close to the end of their careers, I've seen it happen to Crawfie, Charlie Joseph, Ato, and several others.

You call it picong etc, but doing so excessively is going to make what point? What GOOD will it do?...NONE.

Fortunately in Darrel's case, at 25/26 he has a rare chance to fix his hip, establish/regain a higher level of work ethic, and get a second phase of his career going, so support the man nuh.

669
The man developed his strength and power running hills in Arima, find some stadium steps to complement the 400s. There's still time, I trust the new TT guidance will bring back his competitive desire in time for 2012.
Go Darrel!!

Bernard Williams??? Did you mean Harvey Glance, the Alabama's coach?? Saw he is retiring after this season. If they are smart they would recruit Rondell Bartholomew (other 45.xx Grenadian) from JC to join Kirani to strengthen that 4x400

Excellent run from Sorillo, now for RT to get back to his 20.18 form.

676
I don't expect Bolt to run any more quarters this year for sure. He has already said he won't venture there until post-2012.

But I suspect that IF as a result of Tyson's experiment this year, he gets the results he's looking for - being in "biting" range or even "dipping" range of Bolt in the 200m, it may force Bolt or moreso his coach to urge him to reconsider running them seriously in 2011 (whether in practice, relays or open).

I've seen enough mid-43 400m splits. I am hopeful that Bolt is forced to go there, that way so we can all see something really special - 42 low

677
Here's how I predict the rest of this season into the next will play out in the Gay Bolt (no pun intended) saga:

Tyson and his coach knows they can't catch up to Bolt in 1 year but that this year is as good as any to close the gap, since Bolt himself said "if they want to try to catch/beat me, this is the year to do it" i.e. he's coasting by his standards.

Tyson will run 19.25-19.35 (most likely break MJ's 200m record) and also improve on his 100m PR.

Bolt will naturally respond or may have to do so in a head-to-head race and either run 19.0x (win) or 19.20s (win or lose).

Bolt's coach will confront him and tell him he has to run more serious 400m in early 2011 to keep ahead of Tyson who is catching up.

Bolt will do some glorious in the 400m in 2011........santimanitay.......mr. fiddler

678
Absolutely great run from Tyson Gay, considering it is his first 200m of the year, without any real speed work, first time ever pacing himself on a 200m straight-away.

It compares very competitively with Bolt's first 200m of the year, 19.56 paced on the familiar bend, in front of his home crowd, going all-out to impress his fans.

You can't compare Tyson's first 200m of the season to Bolt's fine-tuned, championship final, peak of the season performance (19.19).

All in all it makes for a very competitive season ahead, at least for the 200m.

What about Track & Field / Re: Ian Morris VS Renny Quow
« on: May 15, 2010, 04:10:27 PM »
Running like that over such a long distance must attribute to a cumulatively significant loss of energy at the end of the race when he most needs it. I would estimate he is losing 0.25 to 0.5 seconds by not running as efficiently as say Merritt. He comes home strong but he could be in a better striking position at 300/350 if he ran more efficiently.

I would say the quality of competition (44-low and sub-44) that Morris faced (Butch Reynolds, Quincy Watts, Steve Lewis, Danny Everett, Derek Mills, Roberto Hernandez, Andrew Valmon, Antonio Pettigrew, Tyree Washington, Anthuan Maybanks, early Michael Johnson, etc) is superior to what Renny has to deal with today (Lashawn Merritt, Jeremy Wariner, Chris Brown).

Regardless of competition, it makes sense to look at their consistency in racing performance (placing/times) on the circuit as well as in regional and global competitions.

At this stage, I would still say Morris is more accomplished, besides 44.21 would have netted Morris silver in both the 2008 Olympics and 2009 World Champs

First he and his coach has to work on his form.

He has a heart of a lion but looks like he's beating a tenor pan when he is coming home - lot's of wasted side-to-side energy.

What about Track & Field / Re: Focus on Athletes - Darrel Brown
« on: May 08, 2010, 10:04:53 AM »
I agree - let's see what DB can do injury-free. Hopefully he will excel; if he does not, HE has to check himself, not any of us here arguing.

Regarding RT, he has to run more 200s and 4x400m relay legs as well - no favoritism here. When he was running more 200s (including rounds) on the collegiate circuit at LSU his early season 100 times were much more impressive, providing him with a platform of confidence for later in the season. He is a pro now which means less racing in the early outdoor season, but that has dropped off a bit much in my opinion.

I would be tempted to say well these guys are pros and are saving themselves for the Euro circuit, or that it's 2010 and they are saving themselves for 2011/2012, but then I look at Tyson Gay who year after year continues to push his limits and frankly surprise he hell out of me. Just when I think he can't do better he surpasses Asafa, then he starts to run quarters even if it means throwing up after races. But the man is courageous and is on a quest to catch Usain even when most everybody thinks it is impossible.

I am a trini, but like most of us who enjoy great cricket regardless of the origin of the batsmen or bowler, I really admire Tyson Gay even if I would like to see a trini beat him everytime.

So if the man is prepared to puke his guts out in order to become the best then RT, DB, EC, RS, AA, KB, MB, etc better take note or resign themselves to shooting for relay medals like Australia, Japan, etc.

Dude, if we were "hating" would we waste our breathe posting something even remotely "constructive"?

Any trini knows when people hating on them - somewhere in the post would have been the word "sh*thound".

I don't know about you, but many times a cut arse from my mother or father would set me straight, open my eyes to something I did not realize beforehand, and get me to thinking more clearly.

Providing only positive reinforcement when there is clearly a problem only compounds the problem.

Peace

Any sprinter (whether 100, 200, 400; whether current or 1970/1980/1990) knows that to minimize injuries you have to train, run or compete over-distance (this is no NEW approach). Doing so strengthens and makes resilient those muscles you need when you have to switch into high gear - plain and simple.

Remember when you were sore, your coach will tell you go for a 2 mile run? Remember running countless 600s and 500s as a quartermiler during training and indoors? There is a reason for that.

If Darrel's team suspects his injuries emanate from an early career lack of fitness, yet he has been with them for 4-5 years, then maybe he HAS to move on from there, because they couldn't be serious and be holding him in as high regard as Asafa et al. Yes he is still only 26 and may still have time to regain, but he better get up and get, and hopefully surround himself with smarter advisors.

As talented as he IS, I have heard that he "fraid" to run quarters like you asking him to bungee jump. The youth man has to wake up one day SOON and realize, no pain/no gain/glory. If he continues with the same formula how on earth does he or his coach expect better results?

Look, I know the hills and roads in Arima he used to run as a youth during offseason, and how his then coach and peers used to challenge him. I would not question his love for his craft, but I am not sure he has the same passion that he had back then.

He still has time, but he has to confront himself with some hard, honest questions, man up and do the right thing for himself, not anyone else around him.

Come on Darrel man!!!

Hmmm if MVP have given up on him he needs to return to his roots

His roots long gone. Nestor Brown his coach from day one in Arima through his victory in Jamaica died years ago.

Not long after that, he started to stagnate. Explains why he was fit enough to run 20.4 at 16, but can't crack 21 today.

Everyone is still training hard so off times at this point don't really mean much, but that Tyson Gay time means he is getting closer to the strength he needs to hang with Bolt later in the race....that is freakin impressive. No non MJ world class 100m sprinter was ever sub 45.

A few come to mind:
