General Discussion / Life in T&T for you and me
« on: January 20, 2011, 08:16:36 AM »
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/trinivoices/113628854.html

Life In T&T for you and me
I will come straight to the point about what I see

I have a house but I am afraid to live in it
I have a car but I am afraid to drive it

I have gold jewelry but I am afraid to wear it
I have designer shoes but I cannot walk in it
I have a business but I am afraid to go to it

I have to arm myself with a weapon twenty four seven
If I try to defend myself I may end up in prison

Yet, I am a prisoner of everything I own
Held captive by prison bars on every opening of my home

I am afraid to walk the streets at night
Tell me please, do I have a right?

You say this is the land of sweet liberty
On the daily news all I can see is crime, rape, incest and vagrancy

Not to mention the bad economy
So tell me please, do you see the same thing I see?

Is this the sweet T&T that used to be?
This is the reality of life in T&T for you and me!

Football / Former Nigeria player Okafor found dead in Texas
« on: January 07, 2011, 11:41:19 AM »
wow. i remember him from the world cup.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uche_Okafor

LITTLE ELM, Texas (AP)—Uche Okafor, a former Nigeria defender who helped his national football team win the African Cup of Nations in 1994, has been found dead in his Texas home. He was 43.

Little Elm police Detective Oscar Hinojosa says Okafor’s body was discovered Thursday by his wife, who left work and returned home when she was unable to reach him by phone.

Hinojosa told The Associated Press that police are not saying if it’s a homicide or a suicide, “we’re just saying it’s a death.” The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office says Okafor’s body will be examined Friday.

Okafor was on the Nigerian team at both the 1994 and 1998 World Cups.

from http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2010/11/02/don-balons-list-of-the-100-best-young-players-in-the-world

Don Balon is a Spanish football magazine with a good line in fate-tempting articles predicting the next generation of world superstars.

Of course, speculating on the potential of young players is a risky business, as the BBC found out in that internet-infamous Why England will win Euro 2008 article, but Don Balon stake their reputation on having a cultured eye for talent

This year’s list, featuring players born on or after 01/01/1989, is after the jump; along with a lineup from 2001 for an idea of how impressively accurate the prescient Spaniards have been in the past

Entertainment & Culture Discussion / Nicki Minaj to Perform in Trinidad
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:41:23 AM »
http://www.billboard.com/column/the-juice/nicki-minaj-fans-scammed-rapper-to-perform-1004115889.story

Nicki Minaj is such a hot commodity these days that some shameless promoters are ripping off broke college students by claiming she is performing shows she's not even booked for.

According to her twitter, concerts at MSU (which we're assuming is Michigan State University) and another at JSU (Jackson State University?) were booked with Nicki Minaj as the headliner. The only problem is Nicki had no idea about either.

"Wut concert? Neva heard of it," she tweeted after a follower posted a twitpic of kids camped outside the make-believe concert. "I feel so bad 4 ppl who were scammed," she continued. "Wen I find out the person responsible for this MSU scam I'm putting their name on twitter. scamming college kids? go to hell!"

Meanwhile, another college kid posted that there's another rumored show taking place on Oct. 15 at JSU -- for which tickets are already fraudulently being sold -- but by this time Nicki had already made the record clear: "I'm not doing any shows between now and the 22nd of October. When shows r confirmed i'll let u guys know. I'm sorry."

She also encouraged her fans to sign up to her new site, www.mypinkfriday.com, where she will post all official updates on her touring schedule, among other Nicki Minaj-related info.

Nicki did go on to make an official announcement about an upcoming show in her birthplace of Trinidad on Oct. 30. "Details coming soon on MyPinkFriday.com," she specified.

General Discussion / Gaddafi in 'black Europe' warning
« on: August 31, 2010, 11:25:17 AM »
idiot!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11139345

Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi says the EU should pay Libya at least 5bn euros (£4bn; $6.3bn) a year to stop illegal African immigration and avoid a "black Europe".

Speaking on a visit to Italy, Col Gaddafi said Europe "could turn into Africa" as "there are millions of Africans who want to come in"...

"We don't know what will happen, what will be the reaction of the white and Christian Europeans faced with this influx of starving and ignorant Africans," Col Gaddafi said.

"We don't know if Europe will remain an advanced and united continent or if it will be destroyed, as happened with the barbarian invasions."

Football / Victorious St. Lucia soccer player shot dead in NY
« on: August 30, 2010, 02:16:39 PM »
NEW YORK (AP)—A St. Lucian soccer player who scored a goal in a New York City tournament and was celebrating his team’s victory has been shot and killed.

The slaying of Isidore Phillip Tisson occurred early Monday outside a nightclub in Brooklyn. Tisson’s coach says he had gone there after scoring the winning goal on Sunday against St. Kitts.

Police say a gunman shot the 27-year-old Tisson in the head as he sat in a car outside the club. A woman who was with Tisson suffered a chest wound.

No arrests have been made.

Football / CONCACAF's Changes To Qualifying For 2014?
« on: August 30, 2010, 12:06:32 PM »
source: http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/ussoccerplayers/2010/08/concacafs-changes-to-qualifying-for-2014.html

Reports in the Honduran media and a radio interview with CONCACAF deputy secretary Mario Monterrosa outline the changes to CONCACAF World Cup qualifying the Confederation will present to FIFA in September.

Under the new system, the 6 teams in CONCACAF with the lowest FIFA ranking will playoff against each other to reduce the total number of CONCACAF teams to 32.  Thos teams will then be drawn by lottery into 8 groups of 4 teams.  The top two teams from each group advance to a second group stage with 4 groups of 4 teams.  The top 2 teams from those groups advance to a final group stage with 2 groups of 4 teams.

The two group winners qualify for the World Cup.  Depending on CONCACAF successfully lobbying for 4 World Cup slots, the runners-up in each group would also qualify.  If the total number of World Cup slots is 3.5, the same as the last World Cup, the runners-up would play off against each other.  The winner would automatically advance with the loser playing off against a team from another Confederation for the final slot.

CHICAGO (Aug. 12, 2010) – The groups and venues for the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament, to be held from Oct. 28-Nov. 8 in Cancún and Playa del Carmen, Mexico, were announced today after the draw was held at the CONCACAF headquarters in New York City.

The United States has been drawn into Group B along with Costa Rica, Haiti and Guatemala. Group A features host Mexico, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana. Group A will play in the 9,000-seat Estadio Beto Ávila in Cancún, which is the regular venue for Mexican baseball team the Quintana Roo Tigres.

Group B will face off in Estadio Unidad Deportiva in Playa del Carmen, which holds around 7,000 fans and is home to the Inter Playa del Carmen soccer team in Mexico’s third division. Both stadiums feature natural grass surfaces. Playa del Carmen is just 42 miles south of Cancun on the Yucatán Peninsula.

The eight-team competition, formerly known as the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, will send both finalists to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany while the tournament’s third-place finisher will face the fifth place team from Europe in a home-and-home and series for a World Cup spot. The 16-team 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament will be held in nine German cities from June 26-July 17.

After round-robin play within the groups, the top two teams in each of the group will cross over for the all-important semifinals, with the first-place team in Group A facing the second place team in Group B and vice-versa.

The United States has won all four CONCACAF Women’s World Cup qualifying tournaments in which it has competed (1991, 1994, 2002 and 2006) with all four championship games featuring a USA vs. Canada match-up.

The CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, which began in 2000, was won by the United States in its inaugural edition as well as in 2002 and 2006. Prior to the establishment of the Women’s Gold Cup, the confederation hosted the CONCACAF Women’s Championship starting in 1991. The United States won that competition in 1991, and 1993 and 1994 (which were not qualifying tournaments for a World Cup) while Canada lifted the trophy in 1998 when the United States automatically qualified to the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup as hosts.

The match dates and times for the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying will be announced in the near future.

So far, just three nations have qualified for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup as Australia, Korea DPR and Japan from Asia will join host Germany. The remaining 12 qualifiers will be determined over the next few months during the fall.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-10764371

Young children are supplying an increasing demand from foreign tourists who travel to Brazil for sex holidays, according to a BBC investigation. Chris Rogers reports on how the country is overtaking Thailand as a destination for sex tourism and on attempts to curb the problem.

Her small bikini exposes her tiny frame. She looks no older than 13 - one of dozens of girls parading the street looking for clients in the blazing mid-afternoon sun. Most come from the surrounding favelas - or slums.

As I park my car, the young girl dances provocatively to catch my attention....

Football / New EPL Squad Rule

i was just checking this. arsenal could be the big winner from this.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/8858634.stm

- Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.

- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

- Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.

- Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.

- Players loaned to Football League clubs cannot be replaced, but can regain their spot on return to parent club.

- Rules apply only to Premier League matches, not European, FA Cup or League Cup action.

- First deadline is 1700 BST on 1 September (24 hours after end of August transfer window).

An award for the best baguette in Paris has been won by a baker who was born in Senegal.

The outcome of the contest has caused something of a stir in France - where last year a debate on national identity was quietly shelved because of the anti-immigrant rhetoric it generated.

STIRRING the mixture for her sought-after cupcakes, Abi pours in a unique ingredient - her own BREAST MILK.
Abi Blake, 30, also uses it in other recipes to create a complete breast milk menu, which includes tarts, smoothies and even lasagne.

The married mum-of-one shares her creations with friends and even sells the food to strangers at food festivals.

Abi, who uses a breast pump to express and collect excess milk after eight-month-old daughter Tily is full, says: "I am the Nigella Lawson of breast milk cookery.

"Although the idea of eating something made out of someone else's breast milk may make some people's stomachs turn, it is full of vitamins that can never be found in cow's milk.

"And why would you prefer to drink milk from a dirty cow over a clean, healthy woman?

"I have managed to convert all my family who now adore my breast milk recipes and they all agree it tastes better."

Although Abi's cooking may seem like nothing more than a strange hobby, research released yesterday claims breast milk can kill cancer cells.

A compound found in it, dubbed Hamlet - Human Alpha-lactalbumin Made Lethal to Tumour - has been found to kill 40 types of cancer cells in tests, without causing the same damaging side effects as chemotherapy.

Udderly delicious ... Abi's recipesAbi, married to Jonathan, 37, a management consultant, is so proud of her cooking that she has even sold her breast milk cupcakes at various festivals. She says: "Many customers were intrigued and thought it was a novelty.

"But what most people don't know is that breast milk contains nutrients that can help the immune system and even treat cancer.

"It is such a precious ingredient and if people would only try it, they would discover all its wonderful benefits."

The idea of cooking with breast milk first came to Abi when she spent some time in India, where women regularly use it in their cooking.

She says: "I knew it was healthy for babies but had no idea that adults could benefit from it too. But after some research, I realised the potential gold mine that every woman has to offer. It's now my obsession and I use it in every recipe I can."

After experimenting with various dishes, Abi invited her close friends for afternoon tea.

She recalls: "After producing plates of butterfly cakes with cream, chocolate tart and coffee swirl cake - and receiving compliments on how delicious they all were - I dropped the bombshell that they had been made with my own milk.

"At first they were shocked, but then they remarked on how much better the food tasted than when made with cow's milk.

"Breast milk is sweeter and slightly oily - it actually tastes of goodness, whereas cows milk just tastes of chemicals." Abi, from Clifton, Bristol, freezes batches of her milk in plastic containers and has regular HIV and STD tests before serving her milk to guests.

She says: "I have to be safe giving people food that has come from my body and I make sure my guests and customers are aware that there is no danger in eating my breast milk food.

"My main priority is still Tily and she has as much milk as she needs. But it seems a shame to waste the rest - especially when it can do such good."

The stay-at-home mum has held several dinner parties, often serving lasagne or pasta made using breast milk for the cream sauce. Her speciality is vanilla breast milk cheesecake.

She says: "One of my very close friends has breast cancer and is constantly tucking into my food to see if it can be used as an alternative treatment.

"To think that my milk could be helping her with that awful disease feels amazing."

"...After that, though, it was a long time before Italy had anything to shout about in the World Cup - although they continued to attract top-quality South Americans. In 1962, for example, the Azzuri's centre forward was Altafini, part of Brazil's World Cup-winning squad four years earlier. Behind him they had Maschio and the great Sivori, plucked from the Argentina side that won the 1957 Copa America but the team still failed..."
