Football / Re: Port Vale eyes Brent Rahim
« on: August 12, 2005, 06:55:10 AM »

Who could give a good assesment of where Rahim plays best...where he used to play for UConn etc etc.

I know some of allyuh play ball with him.
From what I see he look better in center mid...attacking maybe.

Rahim's role throughout his career has traditionally been in the role of deep lying playmaker. He's a Nakhid type, controls the middle without the flash of a Latapy(Maradona), despite his ability to drilbble(think Redondo for the valiants who don't know Nakhid). He's not a hard tackling defensive midfielder but neither is he the attacking midfielder who creates plays. His strengths lie in his vision for the defence splitting pass and his reading of the game.
That was the old Rahim though...based on his performances recently,I have no idea what his strengths are now because I not seeing any.

...Glenn had been our most dangerous striker for about 2 years now.
What are you basing that on?

...and also why Tiger disappear off the map too. He didn't play any worse than Theobald, Rahim or Whitley plus he have a left foot and fighting til the end. And he playing with a 'better' club than all 3 of them...
Tiger and Real Salt Lake eh exactly lighting up de MLS.

I basing that on the fact that when he first burst on the national scene, Stern came out and said that he prefers playing with him as a strike partner (I sure you could find that article for me somewhere).

And since Stern gone downhill...nobody else scoring consistently so we have to look at those whose performances have been the best. Compared to Kenwyne Jones, Gary Glasgow, Jerren Nixon, Nigel Pierre, Errol Mc Farlane's 2 goals, Scott Sealy's few appearances and any of the other local based players who were tried...u can't tell me that in the opinion of the majority of fans Cornell Glenn is our best striker.
N.B  My 2 year period really refers to 2004 and 2005 thus far.

And Real Salt lake eh doin good but they and Tiger doing more than Theobald doing for his team and Rahim eh have no team ! Whitley and Jaboteh I will give u the benefit of the doubt since fenwick wasn't there when they lose to the MLS sides....

That sounding like a pity contract for Rahim cause he's hector friend and needs a club...maybe that's why he doh get through anywhere. At Falkirk they probably didn;t need him but he agent tell Latas "oh gorm, gih de man something nah !" Same thing at West Ham...probably beg Shaka to use some influence. And I feel he have some link the galaxy cause they had call him when he first leave school and then the other day again he went there for a trial (although the impression i get was just somewhere to train and keep fit). The only place that doh fit is Levski Sofa...he probably had a bulgarian partner in UConn who link him or something !

That line Beenie use about being attached to clubs and playing is a cop-out as to why he drop Scotland (and probably Eve, although he probably didn't need to explain that one) . He only play Scotty throughout to help with the work permit situation and now that he fail, he doh need him but cah make him look bad so soon after the whole appeals thing. Don't look for him to get a look in to the squad with them 4 strikers, plus Glenn in the mix. tha's probably why he keeping Rahim in the squad too, to help him out. I doh understand what he have against Cornell though. My only theiry is that I feel Glenn is dribble plenty in training and Gray probably could read him real good from their days in Jabloteh and is make him look bad and Gray is look good, coz Glenn had been our most dangerous striker for about 2 years now. Maybe that and his finishing...but he creates space for others!. If we doh get any points in the next 2 games, beenie will have to explain to the public about Glenn...and also why Tiger disappear off the map too. He didn't play any worse than Theobald, Rahim or Whitley plus he have a left foot and fighting til the end. And he playing with a 'better' club than all 3 of them...
In his defence though, I could see him thinking that those 3 have more room to improve while working with him, as opposed to Tiger who has probably reached to his maximum ability wise. Time running out for them age wise though...

Tallman, Flex or whoever: Eve sweating for Jabloteh these days or he is primarily assistant coach or whatevr ?

Samuel will come on, theobald will start...Beenie going with the same defensive mind set as against Mexico. Theobold doesn't do anything going foward on the left but he  rarely loses the ball...that's why Beenie likes him. On the right, he might keep Edwards to bring a spark off the bench as well and go with Rahim or Birchall(depends on if Whitley starts in the middle or not) from the start.

Yeah nobody is a one man team...everybody need backup. Jordan never win before Pippen, but even though Pippen and the rest of them was there...he was still undoubtedly THE MAN. Same thing with Latas, Yorke etc. Dwarika had stokely mason, marvin gordon etc. but he was still D MAN on the team. tha's why I say, in the latter years even though there were other teams that dominate, their star players changed from year to year. The ones who shine above the rest, when the rest were stars in their own right, is the ones who more likely than the others, would  go on to comparitive greatness.

Anybody know if Stern John touch the ball in that coventry game? The only mention he get in the report is a yellow card and being subbed in the 88th minute despite the team pushing for a winning goal against 10 men... ::)

I always find that a good way to measure how good a college player can be is through how many championships they carry their team to in the college days. latas and sando tech were nigh unbeatable when he was there, Signal Hill win back to back (or was it 3 national titles?) with Yorke running things. The only true dynasties based on one player since then was Dwarika for Malick in the early 90's, and he throw away his opportunity for greatness because Scotland was too cold or something. The other Malick titles were a different star each year (Glasgow, Knights, Westfield). I know Naps and St. Anthony's had a good run in the late 90's/early 2000 but i get the impression those wins were based on good teams rather than any dominant players. I mean, if u can't make your team dominate at college level, then u can be good but u not going to be one of the greats.

3250
Like everybody backing the Spurs to make an impact this year..but i find like men 'fraid to put them in a champions league spot! I telling allyuh now, from early so remember u hear it here first: based on history of the league them 'Big 4' teams not finishiing in the top 4 spots...i just eh sure who missing out yet... ???
But i sure that team will be wearing red... :P

3251
Man City gone tru

Stuart Pearce doing good since he take over. Vassel will add pace and this is Fowler first pre-season where he not injured. Plus Andy Cole always good for a few goals and Malbranque will look better on this side than with Fulham. I feel they could surprise ppl this year when nobody expecting nothing from them.

bolton is not ah bad team but dey need a quality striker who can put de ball on de ground (dem does only score from set piece)

Which is why Borgetti might be the man to score that one extra goal they need because he tailormade for their style of play. They don't need a striker to put the ball in the ground since they don't play with the ball onthe ground!

3252
I agree with u Liverpool good for a second....but that doh mean Chelsea will be first tho !! I purposely leave the big 4 out of it because I know tha's a big argument about who will endup where but in England one of the top teams always disappoint and I really doubt it will be Chelsea or Liverpool because both are on the up...

So far Bolton and Spurs getting real rate up...

I really feel Charlton will remain in the 10th to 7th range and never really progress...maybe a cup or something one day

3253
Every year in the EPL, there's always one team that nobody expects to really make a difference in the Champions league race who pushes hard for that last spot...who will it be this year?

Everton  - Will the Champions League distraction hinder league progress ?

Tottenham - One more year before they are ready to gain consistency  or is Davids the final cog ?

Aston Villa - Is O'Leary working his Leeds magic quietly? Especially if he manages to reunite Saviola with Angel...

Newcastle -  Souness destroying a good team or addiing winning steel to it?

Middleborough - Viduka, Hasselbank, Yakubu and they looking for a big name midfielder...are they ready for 5th now?

Bolton - Can the headmaster Borgetti steal the odd goal which will turn those draws against the big team into wins for Big Sam?

Man City - Robbie Fowler and Andy Cole...Indian Summer for 2 great guns of the past? Can wright- phillips sale be the equivalent for City what Rooney was to Everton?

Tha's a perfect signing for Everton and Neville. Moyes like men who could make multiple positions so he can vary the tactiics during the game. plus he's a battler and team player...exactly what Everton's recent success is built on. I cah think of a better place for Neville to have gone, a utlity player paradise (Yobo in midfield, Steve watson right mid or even striker sometimes, bent on the right as well, big dunc in defence sometimes...moyes like to move men around, and make it work)

The u-17 star who hot up in the world cup here along with his riding partner le Tallec. He supposedly on Liverpool books but whenever benitez talk bout his strikers he never mention him and i now see they let le tallec out on loan again...

Anybody know if they sell him or if theyjust ignoring him cause he didn't do bad last year whenever he got a chance but Benitez and his one striker policy just wouldn let the man get a run...

Football / Re: What is so special about robinho fellas
« on: August 03, 2005, 12:57:13 PM »
What so special is that at age 17 he burst on the scene and he and Diego take Santos to the championship. Which is more of an impact at that age than ronaldo and ronaldinho. They both look good and score goals but they didn't take the team to the championship as a youth. Plus the fact that he playing with santos and black (not lighter skin like Ronaldo and Ronaldinho) make him be seen as the second coming of Pele.

To the present: .he special now because he have the most beats of all the brazilians on the team now and he looking to beat every time he get the ball. For otherbrazilians tobe calling him 'the dribbling wizrd' he hadda have real thing. When u r a youth man now coming into the selecao and Adriano, Ronldinho and kaka calling for the ball u going to be hesitant to pull the trigger too and give it to the bigger boys, so u cah judge him on the confederations cup. Besides, when last a much hyped youngster from brazil fail? And he is the most hyped....

Brent Sancho is ah playmaker now?? LOL...

Well yuh know that man was looking for a serious bruiser

Nah i understand what the man mean. Sancho is more of a defender in the Rio Ferdinand mould where he better at reading the play and cutting off passes and then bringing the ball out of the defence, every now and then he will come with a slide tackle if he need to. He more elegant and could play with the ball at his feet. Tha's why them men would consider Rougier as an attacking player as welll...and now Lawrence as well it seems ! Lawd...once u could dribble a lil bit they is pull u out of the defence in them kind of countries.

Hmm...that reminds me that sancho used to be a utility player. With Dog and Tallest holding down the centre of the defence we could possibly move sancho into the middle with Birchall...tha's real bite and hustle there and it will allow Birchall to get more involved inthe attack, especially if Edwards missing. He did play the def mid for Dundee when he first went there...

At least with all these trials he getting in some matches b4 the USA game so his lack of a club won't affect us until the season start...

I remember one of the coaches saying something about when at least three players are out on international duty for WCQ, they're allowed to reschedule their club games. Something to that effect.

It was the same Port Vale manager who said it when he got Hector...but based on Valiant and them reports, is only cause he and hector have the same agent he there and is rahim sound like he know they doh want him. Question though...can Rahim still get a work permit? Why is he even in England trying? He have citizenship or something or he really play that much for us in the past year? or do they count once u inthe squad?

« on: August 03, 2005, 10:23:51 AM »
Don't know why Beenie didn't at least take the time to look at him, Norville and Ricky Shakes for the Gold Cup...a defender, midfielder and attacker that could possibly have added something.  Sounds like Boucaud could challenge Whitley for his spot in the middle. We crying out for a creative midfielder and he looked on par with Rahim and Theobald whenever he was with the team under Bertille...and it sounds like he improve since then

Ahmmmm...excuse meh.  Jes exactly what "youngsters" yuh talkin bout?

De only Man Boo youngster wit potential is Richardson.  Besides he, dah cupboard bare.

Maybe youngsters is the wrong word but I mean to revamp the team like he did when he clear out kanchelskis, hughes, ince, etc. the year he brought in becks and them on the regular. Build the side around Rooney and Ronaldo (and u remind me bout richardson there, he like to beat given the chance). A 3 R's operating behind the lone striker, swapping sides and interchanging will give sides horrors like Robben and Duff did.. Let Scholes and Giggs come on every now and then intead of making them the stars and having the youths suffering. As for Keane...that was my hero eh,but he need to shut up until he start playing like he used to, which is probably never going to happen again. And unleas brown or o'shea down the flank instead of neville..he too one dimensional

Manu will do good if fergie and keane really fall out cause once Keane gone they could get rid of the 'old guard' and let the young guns run riot.

---------------------Van der Sar ( after 2 blunders howard)------------------

Neville-----------------Ferdinand-----------------Silvestre-------------------Heinz

----------------------O Shea---------------------Smith---------------------

Ronaldo-------------------------Rooney--------------------------Giggs/Scoles-------------

-----------------------Van Nisterooy---------------------

Scholes and Giggs and Keane better recognise they not irreplacable. Giggs and Scholes hadda rotate to keep the youngsters fresh and saha will push Van nisterooy out after 5 scoreless games....then manU have a chance.

But Chelsea and Liverpool will be fighting out for the championship. Spurs, Arsenal and Manu will hadda fight for champions league spots and the aminor trophies

Leo say in the 105 thing that Stern and Dwight starting up top against the US (barring injury supposedly) but I feel Cornell and Sealey is the best options off the bench. Kenwyne Jones look lively in the Gold Cup but i just doh see him impacting games off the bench like Cornell can, while Sealy has the uncanny knack of being on the spot to put away any chances that arise.

Maybe Jones could revert to the wing and try Carlos on the left...or hopefully Harry Redknapp will solve our biggest problem and turn Kenwyne Jones as Southampton ball wiinner in the middle of the park. He already have a Viera like physique...
