Football / Re: The US will man mark Yorke
« on: July 27, 2005, 07:31:50 AM »
The Gold Cup gave me a big insight into what makes yorke so improtant to the team and why we can't cry him down too much for the ta-ta he is playing now compared to b4 he went away. Yorke is always marked tightly when he playing for Trinidad so much so that now when he has that space is like he doh even realise it !
What Yorke does when he gets the ball is keeps it for 2 seemignly unnexcesary extra seconds where he looks slow and lazy before knocking it back or wide (to carlos edwards virtually every time in the recent matches with the national team). This creates space for edwards to run down the wing as well as makes time for the midfield to join the defence. This was the key to Edwards marauding runs in the past few games and i doubt he will look that good without Yorke's simple impact. This was also why our midfield was so slow in joining the attach during the gold cup because they didn't have time to catch up with the long ball from the back we were deploying.
I must say. i never find yorke really do much for Trinidad and that he get shittier the more years he play in the UK but the Gold Cup really let me appreciate how he impacts the team, even moreso than Edwards. as an attacking threat.
So the US must man mark him regardless of if he scores for us or not, but unlike our other players, he knows what to do when he is marked...is the rest of them who is just waste the space he create. But I believe his combinatin with Edwards(every attack comes from out right) wiill allow Edwrds to shake his marker and create the space we need to get the ball in to Stern. Hopefully we can do that 8 to 10 times a game so Stern can score at least 1 and then maybe Lawrence or Dog could score from a set piece to give us a chance !

What about de fella who use to play for Celtics and now with Barcelona (Larrson) he break to 2 leg once and came back better..... So Aaron and Blackman needs to step up.... no excuses, yuh cant throw away yuh life because of that.....

No excuses?? You comparing a man who had the resources of Celtic and Barcelona behind him when it come to medical care to 2 youth men living in Trinidad? U could be the richest man in trinidad and u still not getting the sporting medical facilities and rehab centres that professional athletes enjoy far less if u depending on mummy and daddy insurance,if uhave that plus the quack doctors we have running around this country, not to mention the limited facilities and professional supervision u get for rehab. I say they have plenty excuses as to why they not back to where they were before their injuries...

Allyuh men really have such a low opinion of the US still? I hate the States...iI dislike losing to Jamaica plenty but I have real animosity against the US team ...but I recognise that they are a BIG side now. Doh get tie up with the US. France, Italy and them have pedigree and history but they drawing with small sides and playin boring ta-ta football for over a year now, while Spain and Portugal look pretty and only win against small sides but cah beat the big guns. The states is definitely in their class, consistently since the last World Cup. Allyh forget the States beat Germany 3-0 within the past 5 years. How many sides in the world could say they do that in their history?

And incidentally, Holland playing good ball and scoring real goals since van Basten take over, which is why they are 3rd now and Mexico had the longest unbeaten run in the world until that loss to germany in the Confederations Cup, hence their 5th place spot. And like i said before, if mexico beating the best in the world, but the States challenging them for top honours in the region, then the US can't be that much behind Mexico. Ii get real pong when i rate the states in a previous thread..but FIFA backing me...

Dey should do a poll on the site for Sealy's inclusion...he, Glenn and Yorke should be on the squad as strikers with any of them other men filling the last spot..coz the rest of them is all the same style !! I hoping Kenwyne Jones and Stern realise is a straight shootout between them in the Championship Division for that last spot...

Football / Re: Ronaldo To Quit The Seleçao After 2006 World Cup
« on: July 21, 2005, 07:43:54 AM »
I think he needs 3 goals to pass Gerd Muller for most all-time World Cup goals (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)...not a bad way to leave the international game...

Gerd Muller score 4 goals in '70 and 10 in '74 for a total of 14. Ronaldo score 4 in 98 and 8 in 2002, so yeah he needs 3 ore to pass Muller. Right now he tied with Pele and behind Fontaine who score all his in one tournament.

Ronaldo is a great player but when he says things like this I can't help but think that he is not very interested in football, international or otherwise. On the field he produces but throughout his career he has shown a gross lack of loyalty.

I think you being harsh on the man. He'll be about 30 by the end of 2006 and most players chose to call time at the end of a big tournament, and at 34 he won't be able to make Brazil's team for 2010. Rather than hang around after his sell by date (like Romario) and get drop, he would rather go out on his own terms like a big player should...

« on: July 19, 2005, 12:37:52 PM »
It doh make sense 2 pay 7mil for him, especially cause Benitez prefer to play one striker and a supporting midfielder, like Luis Enrique last year. So Crouch will be 3rd choice behind Cisse and Morientes. I guess he there in case of injuries. I still find Pongolle coulda get a chance, he was their best striker in pre-season last year and Benitez just overs him whole season. Plus they have Mellor coming through  just aching to get a chance again after that goal against Arsenal...

Bolton whole game is about long balls and long throws into the heart of the defence to cause confusion so Borgetti will be suited to that, i feel. All the big teams who play against Bolton last year complain about the style cause it cause them real pressure in the back and is only one mistake them defenders hadda make and man like Borgetti will punish them, like he did us.

I pushing for Sealy from the time he make his national debut. The man is not a typical trini striker,in that he doh shine and do too much  but he ALWAYS in the right place at the right time. And he clinical, plus he have a knack for getting rebounds. A goal poacher. He and Cornell Glenn are the only strikers we have who could complement the big men like Yorke, Stern, Jones and Scotland. And well, Hector Sam if he get some consistency at Portvale this year, could play a role like Glen or Sealy.

Rijkaard said it best when he got rid of Saviola.." We have every TYPE of striker we need here already, Eto-o (speed and strength), Larsson (goal poacher, header), Maxi Lopez(could hold up the ball and has dribbling skills)

Wha bout if Robinho and Ronaldo link up? And doh forget that Milan still have Vieri and Inzaghi there, both with points to prove to Gilardino especially in a World Cup year...seems like Milan have all Italy starting strikers fighting for 1/2 a spot(coz Milan play with one striker and kaka supporting a lot, is only because Shevchenko was off the boil they started using Crespo more at the end of the season)

"Power corrupts and absollute power corrupts absolutely"..
Jack have absolute power over Trinidad football, that could never be a good thing despite all the money he put in U hadda watch it this way: a vagrant have no money, no food yet you will hardly ever find one starve to death. No matter if we didn't have the money or anything else, we football woulda find a way to survive regardless of Jack.

The senators murdered caesar because he was 'too ambitious'...to some that was wrong, to others he was a dictator. Jack is the epitome of ambition...to control the TTFF and CFU for so long, to rise to prominence in FIFA and now watch him quietly climb up the ranks in UNC...ambition to rule and conquer everything he puts his hand in

Atiba or sancho depends on who fit...Atiba if they both fit cause sancho eh sweat for a while now, since April or May. I feel beenie will switch my positions for Theobald and Birchall and a man made a point that maybe he want Birchall to get used to the middle, tha's why he woudn't put him on the right. I can't blame him for that because we cah lose sight of the big picture which is the WCQ. He will definitely change the strikers, but I feel Jones will get the start with Glenn off the bench, as well as Eve eventually and probalbly Scotland if we need to go for the win.

In the games against Bermuda, he was experimenting with a 4-3-3 late in the game so if we losing I looking for that in the second half if we behind. Biig coaches don't chop and change their keeper unnecessarily so I doubt Shaka will get a sweat. If we didn't need to win this game I woulda like to see Andrews get a rest for the next rounds too...

« on: July 09, 2005, 08:36:05 AM »
One loss does not make a team bad, bredren. If we take your argument that Mexico losing to S.Africa mean they not one of the best in the world then we have to agree that because Brazil lose to Mexico they not the best team in the world? Mexico was on a 20 match unbeaten run until they lose to Germany the other day, in the third place play off. Mexico playing games whole year..they now fly back from the confederations cup, the guadalajara men had games inbetween then! And S. africa is not a bad side. Just because europeans doh know the players,it doesn't mean they cah play! Any good team can beat any other good team on any given day, that is generally accepted now. Argentina hit brazil 4 and then get 4 in return a couple of weeks later...? Manchester City beat chelsea last season...does that take away from chelsea being convincing winners of the league over the long run?
I feel u just wanted to start an argument without really believing in what u type...

Nah felllas...tha's just my opinion, i eh say is the way it is or anything so.
The criteria used was the one I said in my original post : they punish mistakes. Even Mexico will give us a chance or 2 to mess up in the back before they score. the states...1 slip by a defender or 1 foul in the wrong spot and is usually a goal.
And the last post there regarding the fifa rankings,I agree with for the most part but any team could beat anybody else in that top group there, on a given day. Mexico nearly beat Argentina and the beat Brasil in the confederations cup but while playing in Concacaf, they are not guaranteed to beat the US every time out.

I feel we have real strikers...partner any of them with Glenn and that will make the difference. The rest of them all too similar: Yorke, Stern, Jones, Scotland...
I even feel Sealy could make a difference as well partnered with one of the above..His off the ball play is excellent and he creates the space for others or always seems to be in the right spot for a rebound. Tha's how good strikers are around the world, invisible until they pop up and score. But in Trini we doh recognise those qualities...

Football / Re: Avery John

Nah boy...allyuh rate Samuel on the cut inside and bullet off the bar but the man lost the ball everytime he got it prior to that and he did no work defensively. theobald didn't do ANYTHING offensively or defensively while on the field, but he kept the ball, didn't give away possession to easily. I feel that's why beenie willing to play him...

But I agree that Samuel is a better option, but he's not the solution.

And both of them is the reason Avery was under pressure...and he stll didn mess up.

Football / Re: POST ANY POSITIVES FROM THE GAME
« on: July 08, 2005, 08:24:39 AM »
Agreed regarding the scouting but the impression I got was that the scouting focus was on our world cup opposition and knwoing Trinidad (esp. regarding funds), they probably looked at one game for the most. And one game is never enough to judge a team. For example, I doubt Colombia has an idea of what to expect when we play them based on the Honduras game, except that they might try to shut down Birchall(which won't help them because he is not supposed to be our creative outlet, especially if Edwards is back) and that we have 2  big strong defenders...plus don't let Samuel shoot.

Football / Re: Lessons to learn from Cuba

The states is potentially one of the top 5 teams in the world because I believe they and mexico on par. Their strength is that they punish every single mistake ! Big side. Brazil and Argentina will play all over a side and score 4 out of 20 chances. the states will play their same laid back, keep the ball game and score 4 out of 5.In the end...the result is the same.Plus it always seems like they could lift their game up a gear when they need to.  So despite Cuba looking good...if we remember the game on Ash Wednesday the states only got 3 chances at goal and we lost 2-1, and people say we had a genuine chance to beat them. Same thing happened against Panama apparently...but panama stiill lost. Tha's just the way the states is play...do enough to win, looks deceiving cause they hardly ever dominate. But they win

Football / Re: POST ANY POSITIVES FROM THE GAME
« on: July 08, 2005, 08:06:42 AM »
I find men getting real tie up from that result against Honduras...it was not a bad result for several reasons.

1) Honduras is a good team. Just because they not in the Hex doesn't mean that we or Panama are better than them. they were playing good ball last year and it was only because Guatemala on a good run now, they not their in Guatemala's spot (which is ahead of us in the hex !) Plus, they preparing specifically for the Gold Cup since they get knocked out of WCQ. They are arguably the 2nd best team in theis group because Colombia send a team made up of youths and fringe players (We being the best team)

2) Under that premise, is the first time beenie see Honduras and i sure he had no scouting reports. In big tournaments, u go out looking not to lose the first game first, and then go for the win as you see how the game progressing. The man come out and say that he was using a more long ball game because men didn't have match fitness (the fwrds knocking the ball back for the midfilders, directly from the defence)

3) Granted, the team didn't get the fluency with the change of tactics and could not get the rhythm going...yet we still get a draw and could have won with Samuel's bullet. Plus I feel some complaceny kiked in with Birchall's goal.Champions play bad and still get points...which is what we did.

4) The bench is just as strong as the starting team as Sancho, Spann, Atiba, Anton, Kenwyne Jones, Samuel and definitely Cornell and Shaka can all start and the team wiill not be any weaker...and could possibly be stronger.

Tha's a lot of positives...Colombia good for some licks cause they have no respect for the region and Panama still licking their wounds from the last game. Beenie is a big coach, a side like panama he already have them figured out whereas Panama still like how we were a couple months ago: no real scouting and preparatiion per game, just go out an play because "we have an idea of what to expect from facing them before" -third world(footballing wise) mentality

Kinda weird that tv6 cah stop programming for the national team but earlier this year (or late last year)they were bringing cricket not involving West Indies, live. I guess it's because cricket is not primetime?I wonder who was paying for that? Real women was complaining bout missing their young and restless tho...

3298
Work permit only comes into question around time for a contract renewal or a transfer. Samuel was refused a transfer to an english club because of the work permit. But I assume his contract is not expiring with Dundee this year which is why there is no problem there.

3300
Well I was thinking that Beenie like to keep faith in his people so the Scotland thing catch me offguard, but I feel that's because Jones coming off the injury and Beenie probably sees Honduras as the weakest team in the group(although I feel that is wrong as Colombia send a weak team and I still doh rate Panama). With that thinking, he will probably start Samuel on the left, especially cause edwards out and the rest of the midfield was not doing much attacking in the last few games for us.

----------------------------------Jack--------------------------------
Atiba----------------Dog-------------Tallest---------------Avery
Bleeder----------Whitley---------Birchall-------------Samuel
--------------------Scotty------------Stern------------

I haven't read anywhere where Beenie admitted Birchall wasn't a natural ball winner. If he did say that though, i would not be surprised to see Spann and Whitley in the middle with Birchall on the right, especially cause he give Spann the #10(although rahim had it for the other games and bench anyway).Theobald will get the nod on the right cause Beenie was willing to start him on the left, despite no great displays in the warmup games, even tho he has no left foot and is a centre mid. That sounds like he was trying to find a spot for him. And he obviously see something in Whitley to have him starting over Theobald and Rahim in the middle in all the games he's been in charge of so far, so i don't see him benching him jus so at this point. Besides, Whitley only going to get better with more games at this level...
