Instead Joevin take every free kick we get. I'd like to see a better free kick taker / free kick strategy for T&T.

To me the brand is refreshing and in my opinion gives an extra option that allowed the type of penetration that led to the goal. My frustration with Eve was with the substitutions. The style depends on an Auvray, Jones or Poon (1st JA game but too deep deep since) who can receive the ball under pressure. hold it for a bit if necessary and spread it.  [The other attackers then feed off of that energy, so you would see more dribbles by a Telfer or a Moore]. Eve subbed all of them with players none of whom could replace that role but still (very unsuccessfully) the team tried to play in that style.  Still hopeful b/c despite his favorites [can somebody tell me why Roachford getting so many runs?, or what Kareem Moses doing on this team?], Molino sometimes and Levi would only add to that dimension.... and hopefully Eve is serious and all of the rumors of trini roots will bring in a handful more players.

Thanks for the link again! (please keep them coming for the upcoming matches)! I am pleased with the performance (rarely agree with Eve when he says that, but these times I am).  Hopeful for the defense as they improved as their game minutes added up in this series. Pray they speedily get 6 International games under their belt. Auvray is a baller, Moore nearly score the identical goal again, Poon was deeper this rounds but still played well. Joevin look like he was enjoying the knock again...Long time I ent look forward to putting on muh shirt in the stands. Nice foundation to build on and I like the brand.

Thanks for the link!
I enjoyed the game [haven't said that about a T&T game for a good while]. Michel Poon-Angeron finally grow into the potential Terry Fenwick saw. God keep him healthy I think he will be the Latapy of the future. I like our distinctive possession brand in the 1st half, largely thanks to Poon and Auvray...and Jones. I like the freedom Eve gave Jones, and hopefully their long family ties will really get the best out of Joevin [didn't like his slightly lazier play in the 2nd half - not sure what part fitness and what part attitude, but this has often been this player's problem].
I think Reon Moore and Jomal could make a nice tandem on top (they both came on late)...even switching sides I thought was nice. Jesse Williams wasn't bad. The defenders were each good at times and then a crucial mistake (that thankfully weren't punished) -- Josiah Trimmingham in particular. Didn't feel too comfortable with Justin Garcia. Alvin was ok. My 2 cents.

Jomal spottin food over dey in El boi! Traditionally I haven't been a huge fan, but I will join the chorus for the callup now.

Based on performances, de man should have been called up consistently over the last 3 years.
man never seize he opportunity in national colors in my opinion tho.

I agree that he has not distinguished himself at national level, but he has not been called up since Lawrence got sacked, and until Levi started mashing up this season, Jomal has been the only one really scoring at club level. Meanwhile there are players who are on the national team, not distinguishing themselves, and at the same time not playing professionally. Men not even attached to ah club. Just doh make sense to me.
I will drink to that!  :beermug:
well hopefully he could score a goal, or at least hit a post against Jam Down.

Young Warriors face El Salvador for quarter-final spot
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday).

THE Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 boys football team will try to upset El Salvador in the round of 16 of the Concacaf Under-17 Championships, at the Estadio Pensativo, in Guatemala on Sunday at 9 pm TT time.

T&T qualified for the knock-out stage after finishing third in Group B with one point after getting one draw and two losses. T&T sealed their place in the knock-out phase after playing to a 1-1 draw against Barbados in the final round of the group phase. An 82nd-minute equaliser from Lindell Sween was enough to see T&T qualify for the next round.

Before the match against El Salvador, T&T lost 3-2 Canada and fell 3-1 to the US.

The T&T defence will have a challenge keeping the El Salvador attackers at bay as the Central Americans scored eight goals in group play.

El Salvador finished second in Group D after ending the preliminary stage with a crushing 4-0 win over Suriname. In earlier matches, El Salvador lost 4-1 to Honduras and defeated Haiti 3-1.

Coach Shawn Cooper said: “We want to play in transition and use the speed of our wingers in the transition—we want to stretch them,” he said. “The Central American teams don’t like you in their face and they don’t like you to run at them. They play a lot with their bodies when they don’t have the ball and try to foul you early, so you can’t use your foot speed.

“We are expecting that and we are trying to prepare our boys for that.”

WATCH - Game Live Here

Having watched my alma mater record season, I have to strongly disagree with this statement.

That is wild. A kid representing his country at an elite competition refuses to eat anything other than bread or butter? What a waste of money and resources spent on him. He has no future in the game.

Kids in some other Concacaf countries have been in professional environments with nutritionists for a few years by the time they are 17.

What you saying is generally true [on Rashford "cribs" interview he don't use his kitchen b/c all his food have to pass thru his nutrutionist] but at the same time it had top players who was smoking cigarettes and bullin tingz whole night, right before games. I think they lil young to get write off just yet. It have learning.
You could see that the majority of players just not accustomed to playing at that speed [while keeping 100% concentration]. They need more exposure to get the "whys" of proper diet, higher intensity training off season etc.

Not playing bad at all. Niles looks nervous and we need to tighten up at the back but we've grown into the game. These boys can play
i with yuh. obvious deficiencies including just holing on to the ball [half of why they put the english youth in the back], but good plusses as well - finishing your chances, speed and big bodies. with ore time they could have been better. lewwe still hope.

Haven’t seen him in the CPL but I’ve seen him play many times …..not  impress. He’s definitely not better than what we have right now.

Lewwe check out the squad against St Maarten's as representative of what we have now:

Trinidad & Tobago Squad

Defenders:

Alvin Jones, Isaiah Garcia, Jesse Williams, Ross Russell Jr., Leland Archer, Weslie John, Justin Garcia, Darnell Hospedales, Jameel Neptune;

These are the 9 that you referring to that DEFINITELY better than Luke Singh? Or it have others?

I mean as a small nation I want to be sure what we "throwing away" really have no value.

I like Jesse Williams, and hope that he still at Pittsburg Riverhounds at least.  If so I could see saying he better.
Alvin Jones stuck at "with potential" for so long now I almost completely lose faith but hope is still true that he at Forward Maddison and then maybe he too.

But maybe you can educate me on the others.
At this current time what make them better?

(Aubrey go be hitting a 36 time next WC).

No constitutional change needed for football
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian)

The idea of making amendments or changes to the T&T Constitution on its immigration laws, in the interest of strengthening the country’s chances of competing in world football, was quickly shot down by former Immigration Officer Charmaine Gandhi-Andrews on Tuesday.

Gandhi-Andrews responded to concerns by national football coach Angus Eve at a recent training session, that the country’s immigration laws are archaic and have been a stumbling block in their attempts to recruit players who live in other countries but have T&T parentage.

English-born Ryan Inniss, a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for EFL League One club Charlton Athletic, has been on the radar of national coaches Terry Fenwick and Eve as one of many players who potentially can represent the Soca Warriors. Both have been prevented from securing his services because the citizenship laws only allow for one generation to have dual nationality.

On Tuesday she said, “Our citizenship laws only allow for one generation to have dual nationality. The only country that I am familiar with for the grandparents to pass down nationality is the UK, but our constitution only allows for citizenship to be passed down one generation. So for example, a citizen of T&T has a child abroad, that child will be a dual citizen and he can’t pass citizenship down to his child.”

Gandhi-Andrews assured that Eve can explore the “Citizens Act” route where he can find a solution to his concerns, but she scoffed at the idea of constitutional change, saying: “I don’t think that warrants us changing the constitution for a handful of people really, and that’s my personal opinion because it is really just a handful of people. Plus I am firm in the view that we have really talented people here who can be tapped into, who were born right here in T&T. And while they may not have had the experience of being trained in a foreign country or not, I do believe we have the talent here.”

“Most countries have shied away from citizenship going down generations but we do have provisions under the citizenship act. In Section 5 of the citizenship act, you will see who can be registered as a citizen of T&T, in terms of a minor child, where the child has to take the oath of allegiance before they become an adult between 18-19. The only way an adult can be a citizen of T&T is if they were born to a citizen of T&T,” Gandhi-Andrews explained.

However, Eve, who admitted he did not want to engage in a war of words with anyone, highlighted authentic statistics which showed that more than half of the Moroccan team was born in another country; 38 per cent of players on Tunisia’s team were born in France; and Uruguay, Iran, Belgium, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, Japan, Mexico and the Netherlands have four percent of foreign-based players.

The statistics were also followed by a note by Eve that said: “This is what those with power to change the Constitution don’t understand.”

Eve and the Soca Warriors are preparing for two more matches to secure the win in Group C of the CONCACAF Nations League which will see them being elevated to Group ‘A’ and ensure qualification to the CONCACAF Gold Cup next year.

The Soca Warriors will first take on the Bahamas on March 24 away before returning home to the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago to face Nicaragua in their final match on March 27.

I hope Eve really not as dense as this article make him out to be, lumping together all "foreign born" - whether born to citizen parents or citizen grandparents.
The solution to Ryan Innis or similar situation (as far as the article make the situation out to be) is to get his parent to apply for citizenship (via their parent -- the citizen grandparent), and then apply for yours.  I would be for a policy of fast-tracking this process in a bundle for any "good enough" potential athlete.
For the case of dead or estranged non-citizen-but-citizen-eligible parents, that might be a hard luck scenario [and the link to T&T mightn't be strong enough to warrant anyway--they just in it for themselves at that point]. Dead grandparents might be more understandable, and with enough activity from citizen-eligible parents, I think should fast-track as well.
The elephant in the room is creating any tiny hole for something we can all agree is good, being used for bobool down the line.

informative interview. Time for Normalization committee to ride. (not saying that what about to come in likely to be much better). I getting the sneaky suspicion Angus going to get us knocked out of the WC sooner rather than later, but theoretically it won't be his fault. Can't believe I about so say this but I think even Shabbaz might be a better caretaker coach than Angus.

Corneal said, “What happens tomorrow if, god forbid, Messi dies, or Ronaldo? Maradona for sure must be a contender. It would be nice if the countries decide on their own to do it but FIFA must not do it. FIFA should leave the countries of the world to demonstrate their feelings about the situation “

Alvin Corneal's comment does not stand up to rigorous scrutiny. I am being charitable rather than harsher.

I suppose the journalist didn't think it worthy of merit of soliciting an alternative view.
I think Corneal had it right there^^ which echoes the statements of a harsher critique on the suggestion here: Infantino’s call for Pelé stadiums everywhere is a monument to folly by Jonathan Wilson
