Football / If we qualify would you Welcome Latapy ?
« on: June 23, 2005, 11:08:53 AM »
Latapy is likely to still be playing for Falkirk next year. That fact may suggest that he not as unfit as some people think. We all want our team to qualify for the World Cup but I want ask the members of this forum if they'd welcome Latapy into our final World Cup squad.

My opinion is that we should not.

Football / Creative Ability
« on: June 14, 2005, 11:34:28 AM »
Our team is being molded into an effective unit built upon a strong defence. The last two games were very good performances ; the team was well organised and for once I saw a midfield. The coach is doing exceptionally well. We are now playing now playing better with a foreign coach and it must be said, a foreign brand. While I am young , I am fairly confident that this is not the traditional style of Trinidad and Tobago football. There is very little creativity and dear I say very little flash. I am not discouraged by this but there is no doubt that some will be.

Imagine Trinidad could qualify for the World Cup playing a "dull" style rather a style that was in keeping with our propensity fof eccentricity( Full of colour and spectacle.)

This does not show that our style is incapable of producing results but shows the massive failure of our developmental programs. We can't seem to turn talented midfielders into playmakers who can perform at the highest level.  There is not doubt that we have talent but the records show that those players could never produce. This is direct result of our non-existent developmental programs. Players like Dwarika and Jemmot could never fit into Don Leo's system. If you observe football globally ,creative players must be able to get stuck-in as well. You'd be hard pressed to find a player with Trinidad and Tobago passport who can demonstrate these traits at the highest level.

If any change will come it must come from the youth . Players like Highley, Tinto and Devenish need to closely followed. I know Devenish has just been promoted to Jabloteh's Senior team and Highley is in the W Connection squad.

Football / We need Stern to step up
« on: June 14, 2005, 07:03:26 AM »
In light og recent critticisms of Stern John I would like submit this post in his defence. There has been a lot of talk on this forum about about dropoing Stern to the bench because he has not been playing well. Everyone has the right to make a judgement but I want to ask a question. Who should we play in front of Stern.

I prefer an out of form Stern John over and out of Glen or Scotland or Sealy. I believe Stern John is the best foward we have and in order for Trinidad and Tobago to qualify we especially need Stern John to step up. After the bermuda game when he missed about 5 chances i was still sure that if we were going to get goals against Panama it would Stern would be involved. I was proven right , he scored and made the through ball to Lawrence. He did however miss a glaring chance in the first half.

This is what I think, you see it in almost every sport, BIG PLAYERS STEP UP IN BIG MATCHES. Stern John is our Biggest foward. He needs get fitter if he is to step up. Moreover Stern's contribution in the approach play has been severly undervalued. Look at the Yorke and Stern control the ball and distribute it. Honestly, will we get that from Sealy and Glen? I admit that I would like to see some more pace up front but I believe that if want to qualify we need our best players on the pitch.Use Glen or Sam or Jones off the bench they are not starters at all.
