No more funds for Warriors!

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article_news?id=160971307

Asked if he thought the Soca Warriors would have had a better chance in Tuesday's crucial match against against Paraguay, had Russell Latapy been brought in earlier, Warner said he never discussed the team's technical plays with Beenhakker. He did admit that it may have been an error on his (Beenhakker) part to send Latapy in as late as he did.

Team selection dissatisfies ex-nationals
WALTER ALIBEY Wednesday, June 21 2006

ANOTHER dogged display by the Trinidad and Tobago “Soca Warriors” which brought pride and satisfaction among the public of this twin-island republic, despite falling 2-0 to Paraguay in Kaiserslautern yesterday.

And according to Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Trinidad and Tobago were the winners “as they have placed this country on the world map.”

Still there were mixed reactions after yesterday’s defeat most of which pointed to the selection of the team and the tactics used.

Ex-Strike Squad defender Brian Williams said he was a bit disappointed with the performance of the team.

“I thought there was not that urgency and drive by the players to go out and win the game yesterday.” The ex-national Rasta hair-styled defence man, who now coaches United Petrotrin in the T&T Pro-League said he was also dissatisfied with the selection of the team.

“I thought left midfielder Collin Samuel should have started and I also feel that coach Leo Beenhakker has shown just a little too much faith in striker Stern John in the match,” Williams said.

He felt John should have been substituted having been used in two previous matches to no effect.

“It could have made a difference for Trinidad and Tobago if coach Beenhakker had used another striker in place of John because he was not getting any goals,” Williams added.

“With the result we were looking for I thought the coach would have gone for a more offensive team in probably a 3-4-3 system where there could have been the use of the extra striker,” Williams said from his German hotel last night.

He also expressed the view that midfielder Russell Latapy should have been used earlier in the game.

“You saw the immediate effect when Latapy was brought onto the field which suggests that he could have been given a little more time, probably to much more effect” Williams noted.

Marlon Morris, another ex-Strike Squad member said he was satisfied with the team generally, and noted that the performance of this team showed that this country could play very attractive football on the world stage. “I was pleased with what I saw in the game despite the 2-0 defeat by the South Americans in yesterday’s all-important match,” said Morris. In fact Morris said, “I was more proud of the performance of the team in this game than in the other two matches because it showed that we can play very good, attractive football and now the entire world knows about Trinidad and Tobago.” But he was a bit concerned with the selection of the team saying he felt Latapy should have been a starter.

Morris said further, he could believe the omission of Shaka Hislop in for Kelvin Jack.

Like Williams, Morris, who is a cousin of ex-Strike Squad captain Clayton Morris, said he felt the coach had shown too much faith in Stern John.

“Stern has not been scoring goals and could be considered as hurting the team even. In addition I felt Latapy should have been considered firstly, instead of Evans Wise who was not effective in the game.

“When you look at the team, you realise it lacked creativity and therefore a man like Latapy would have been the obvious choice in this game,” Morris added.

He quickly added, however, coach Leo Beenhakker is an excellent coach but in this match he picked some wrong horses, one of which was Wise and the other goalkeeper Jack.

Former national team manager Richard Braithwaite described yesterday’s performance as “a wonderful display of football.”

He noted that while the World Cup may be over for TT, the Soca Warriors did show the world that we have the determination and talent to compete on the world stage.

He said the World Cup campaign has opened the eyes of the powers that be in sport in TT and therefore we will see a greater commitment to sports in this country.

This is the first WC where CONCACAF had 3.5 spots.

He did well at the beginning, recognizing that the introduction of Latapy to the team when we were at the bottom of the Hex, was our only hope.  Latapy gave us our victories, then Beenie bench de man, as he needed the focus to be on him.  Without Latapy, NOT Beenie, we would never have qualified.  So, we beat a sh!t team named Bahrain without Latas, but we did not need him against such a team.

phu*ue Beenie because no professional coach could bench Latapy all these games, and yes I know Beenie coach Real Madrid et al, but I doh care, you do not watch talent in de eye and bench dem, maybe is dat Beenie too old and not Latapy!

I do not want to see Beenie's phu*uing face around any TnT team ever in life again, for benching Latapy and then giving him some sentimental run in the last game is akin to treason in my books!

Latapy would have been the Roger Mila of the 2K6 WC if not for Beenhakker.

Alll these phu*uers saying is he "too old", he "too slow". "have faith in Beenie", even when Beenie doing sh!t, allyuh still belong to de colonial brigade, phu*ue allyuh house negros, it is de biggest sin to not play Latas for more than sentimental reasons in this WC, but allyuh does forget when allyuh see white man coach, he can do no wrong!  Allyuh sick, yuh hear, allyuh phu*uing sick!

Colin Samuel should have start this game!

Breds, nobody say not to criticize cause is a public forum, but sometimes in d heat of the moment think a little about the words you type and be constructive. We didnt get the result and men lil upset and emotional. Probably now is not the time to go on a tirade after d coach and players especially when they just run out dey liver string for us. Look for d positives now and den criticize later, we have enough time now.

« on: June 18, 2006, 09:10:05 PM »
"When asked about maybe a role for Latapy in this encounter, Beenhakker replied: “That’s possible. The problem with Russell is not that he doesn’t have the talent and that he can’t play football. The problem to bring several players with this skills  together in the team once again is who is playing versus who. Before the game you realize the big part os getting the ball back and that’s not the strongest part of Russell. (But) hopefully I can use him in the Paraguay game yes.”"

So it look like Beenie realize Latapy must get a run Tuesday, if not somebody wouldah buss he head, he know he has NO CHOICE but tuh play Latapy.  Anuddah question about his criticism of Latas, dat he cyar win the ball back, I wish I could ask him if two time player of the year Ronaldinho does win the ball back... Hell no, so why is he dicrediting the greatest footballer out of TnT like this?

Always some trute to a conspiracy theory!

LEO HAS T&T FUTURE IN MIND (Injury for Gray)

Leo Beenhakker is considering the possibility of remaining on as head coach of this country’s national team following the run of the “Soca Warriors” at the ongoing 2006 World Cup.

This was the firm disclosure made  by Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation Special Advisor Jack Warner after he met with the celebrated Dutchman at the team’s Landhaus Wachtelhof Hotel in Rotenburg.

Warner not only turned up to extend his congratulations and best wishes to Beenhakker and the “Soca Warriors” but he was intent on sitting with the former Real Madrid coach and discussing his future with T&T. And according to Warner, there was positive feedback which he hopes will turn out in the best interest of the country’s football after the Germany experience.

“The feeling has been excellent. There are some things you cannot describe in the world and this is one. More importantly I just spoke to Leo and he is interested in working with the team again….he and Wim (Rijsbergen) and this is extremely important once the conditions are right…. if it means that the Government needs to play an active part, the business sector has to play an active part . Jack Warner alone can no longer do it.

“What Leo has shown is that we can do it. Let’s just  forget  what divides us and let’s look at what unites us and if we do this our country will be  a better place and what we are doing in Germany should serve as a catalyst for of course a bright future for the country,” Warner told TTFF Media

The FIFA Vice President believes that Beenhakker’s continued involvement with the team must be the next step.

“I came here to talk to him about that. He said to give him three days to consider it and I will. He also said that he wants to focus on the match on Tuesday and I respect that. But moreso, he said  that he is positive about it,” Warner added. There remains no guarantee though that Beenhakker will make public his decision after such time.

“He says Tuesday he’s going for it and I expect that we shall win. He said to me Jack don’t forget that I have a player from (CL Financial San Juan) Jabloteh  (Aurtis Whitley) marking Gerrard, a guy from Nelson Street (Densill Theobald) marking Beckham. When they ask what my players earn, it’s nothing compared to the England team and yet of course we gave them a very good performance.  Had it been for   a proper referee we would have had a draw. He said the second goal was irrelevant and that the first goal should never have scored,” Warner stressed.

And to how the CONCACAF President feels now among his FIFA colleagues,

“Oh I walk tall today. I walk taller than all of them. I tell all of them that ‘I told you so’. I made the point to them that I needed to get to this stage in order to show my worth and I have gotten it and we have done it as a country,” a proud Warner concluded.

He also presented Beenhakker with a signed copy of the recently launched book “Zero to Hero” which gives a detailed description on the journey of a man himself in Warner who has inspired T&T to its first World Cup. After that, it was time too for him to meet with skipper Dwight Yorke and other members of the players committee to discuss conditions pertaining to the team’s ongoing appearance on the world’s biggest sporting stage.

Gray ruled out Paraguay match

Defender Cyd Gray has been ruled out of Trinidad and Tobago’s final Group B encounter against Paraguay with a knee ligament injury sustained in the second half of the 2-0 defeat last Thursday.

According to team doctor Terrence Babwah, Gray suffered a partial knee ligament tear and could face the possibility of being out for up to two weeks even though the defender himself was confident of making a comeback in time for T&T’s possible second round appearance on June 24 in Munich.

“Getting this injury is not the best thing at this time but life goes on. I’m quite disappointed that I won’t be playing the Paraguay game. I would have liked to play in all three games. Based on the injury possibly maybe I may not be back  but I really believe that if we go through to the second round I will make it back in time,” Gray told TTFF Media.

“I felt great to know that there are players who are making greater salaries than we are and we can also hold our own. It shows that not based on your salary means you can do as you want. You have to work just as hard all the time,” he added.

“Overall though we have worked hard and I feel pleased about that and about my personal performance. I think I have exceeded what people thought of me. I know I have in me but now I was able to bring it out on the field.”

There was better news for Marvin Andrews who took part in the small sided scrimmage in the one evening session held in Rotenberg on Saturday. The same went for goalie Kelvin Jack who took turns in goal along with Shaka Hislop and Clayton Ince

I hope so but maybe dais why Leo eh giving de man ah run, maybe Leo want to setup shop in TnT and continue coaching... he want we tuh forget Latas....   ;D

I have to admit I was disappointed not to play a part in the game, especially as we had given ourselves a real chance of taking a lot more than just plaudits from it.

Will Coach this team some day.
