Football / Banned Substances and Football
« on: August 25, 2006, 07:17:59 PM »
As the big news in sports these days is the list of athletes being tested positive for banned substances, how does that fit into football?

1) At the just concluded WC, did anyone get a positive result?
2) How come some sports have so much athletes testing for banned substances, yet some like cricket and football not really in the new so much? Is it that the testing and black list exponentially (and perhaps unfairly) more stringent in cycling and athletics? WHat do they test for in football? Only drugs? (faustin and Maradona). I think there must be a million times more pro footballers in the world than track runners and cyclists, so how come?
3) Just out of kicks, is there any player now or in the past, just by the way they play, behave, look, etc etc, allyuh could say "suspicious" of using some artifical enhancements that might be considered cheating.....

Football / T&T Under -16 Game today....
« on: August 05, 2006, 05:12:25 PM »
Yow peeps,
Jus a quick note about the U-16’s today….
I dropped in for a while to watch their training games at UWI, they were playing 4 twenty five minutes quarters.
I only took in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, the score was 4-0 when I left, we were on top.
To be honest, the US team were not much of a test for the guys. They were bigger and stronger, but our players had them running in circles under the blistering 12 noon sun. Even under a tree I was sweating plenty.
A general summary of the game:
Keepers look comfortable, the a lill weak in goal kicks. The uS keeper was much stronger. But they were not really tested too much to guage.
The defense, not really tested too much either, when they were call into action, they look real professional, and were always looking to distribute the ball with some quality.
The midfield worked a lot! Under them hot conditions, it was non stop running from men who all playing for pick. A couple players real stand out, including a white boy, who was finding holes and chooking some nice passes, also some cross field passes, and he could shoot good with both feet, he stand out above everyone else. There were no jersey numbers nor names, just white tees, so iaint really know who was who. The only thing is that our crossing from the wings was a lill weak, we hadda work on that for sure.
Forwards – look ok, I hear people talking about Husbands, he score one goal when I was there, he look sharp.
But in general, the US team didn’t really provide that much opposition, they just very strong and can defend.
But the fellas looking decent man, the main thing that ketch me was everyone keen to want to play the passing game, no voom ball and run behind it….The midfield looking good.
Don’t know how the final score end up though….
My guess would be a 6-0

Football / Opinion on Goals scored against T&T....

Which is the best goal allyuh ever see score against T&T.

Onandi Lowe headed goal and making Dog look small in 2001 in the Queens Park Oval for me comes to mind.

The second goal the US score agasint us on ash wed 2005 in the oval also stand out.

Tyrone Marshall bullet against Hislop in 2001 was also class.

Football / What allyuh think about Scolari as the new national coach?
« on: July 08, 2006, 08:00:25 PM »
Check this article below, www.sports.yahoo.com.
Look at Scolari's priorities....
In my opinion, we should look to get a coach up a class from Beenie and his assistants.
No disrespect to beenie, but it looks like he wants to go somewhere else, new challenge.
Thanks to him for taking us to the promised land, he opened our eyes...now maye we should try to get a coach who can take us even further.
Whether we can afford the 2-3 million dollar a month salary that someone like this will undoubtedly command however is however very unlikely.
Manning said that 2010 is a national objective...We now are on a different level of football and in a different group...
It would be nice though....plus big Phil will be close to his brazil home....

World-Scolari still in talks over Portugal future

By Brian Homewood

STUTTGART, July 7 (Reuters) - Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari denied reports that he would quit after the World Cup, saying he was still discussing continuing.

"There's a possibility I will stay and there's a possibility I won't," he told reporters on the eve of the third-place playoff against hosts Germany.

Scolari has given Portugal a new cutting edge during his three-and-a-half-years as coach, leading the previously underachieving team to runners-up in the European Championship and the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Their hopes of a first World Cup final appearance ended with Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to France.

The Brazilian said that money was not his priority.

"At this stage in my life, I want sun, Bermuda shorts and sand," said Scolari, who won the World Cup with Brazil four years ago.

He added: "If I show you the offers I've had in the last three years from clubs and other nationals, then I can say I've lost a lot of money.

"But, in truth, I've come out winning because of everything I have in Portugal, with the federation, the directors, the people who work with me and the players.

'FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE'

"I have a fantastic atmosphere with most of the Portuguese population and I couldn't ask for more."

"Money is not everything in life."

He added: "I did a lot of things in my life for financial motives.

"When I needed it, I chased after it and I saved it. Now, I have no worries in that sense."

Earlier on Friday, a Portuguese sports daily had reported that Scolari would be leaving the job, although it said he might continue to live in the country.

Last week, a different sports daily said that Scolari was close to agreeing an extension to his contract.

"As I've said all along, I need time to talk to the president. We've been talking, not every day, and we are seeing how we can solve one or two problems and come to an agreement.

"There's a good chance I will continue.

"After the last game, I will go home, sit down a bit, think a bit and then decide something."

Scolari did not rule out coaching Brazil again in the future.

"I always said that I would think about it if I were asked," he said. "It was a marvellous period I had with them and it left a mark on my life."

Football / To the long time posters here...
« on: May 18, 2006, 05:01:14 PM »
Is it safe to say that we have totally overcome the tabanca of the old Flex board?

In retrospect, I feel Flex and Tallman had the inside scoop last March when we made the switch, that T&T would be qualifying for the WC. There is no way that old board woulda stand the influx of so many new posters and the explosion of posts that we have seen over the last 10 months or so.
Come clean fellas.

I was a man who real miss the old board, but I get used to this one now, although I dont post as much as i used to.

Sidenotes - I find plenty PLENTY of the posters I know from years gone by also get scarce too.
Now when yuh see a post from KND, Sam, Truetrini, doc, Socapro, Sub, even Reggaefan, etc etc, yuh take notice.

In all meh years, one thing constant, whenever we playing some serious competition, we always get flooded by posters from the oppposition.
We get plenty action from America, Canada, even the central american countries, I rememebr Panama distinctly, Jamaica, Haiti...heck even barbados used to come and want war with us.
The most recent was Bahrain.
Knowing England, them have some of the most passionate and unfortunately somoe idiotic supporters when they ready. THEY ALSO HAVE SOME VERY COOL DUDES WHO POST HERE FOM TIME TO TIME.
I wonder if we will be getting an invasion of assness from England and Sweden in the coming weeks....

Buckle allyuh seatbelts!

Football / At the risk of getting cuss...
« on: May 17, 2006, 12:06:06 PM »
Do you all think Latapy is in any way a liability AS A STARTER for the Warriors for the World Cup?

Judging by his average fitness over the last year, he is basically good for about 60 minutes tops. Lets say a good half.
But more importantly, he is very slow, although he controls the tempo and rhythm of our attack, you cant help but notice how he slows the game down so much.
More than likely, we will be a counterattacking team for the world cup, right?
But I guess we have no better players who can hold the ball.

He have some real hard work to do fitness wise over the next 2-3 weeks.

I personally dont see him being used other than a sub coming on at about 60 or 70 mins into the game if we behind in a close game.

I cant see him as a starter, not with Seaton, Yorke, Edwards, Birchall as sure starts, unless Beenie persevere with him as the left midfielder, which i honestly believe is not the best situation.

But the man magical and can win the game for us by himself. So different rules apply to him I guess.

I just have a feeling that we will see less of Latapy in this WC than we expect.

Football / Question: WHEN we score we goals in the World Cup....
« on: May 13, 2006, 12:00:00 AM »
How allyuh would like to see we players celebrate?

1)Wear a Tshirt under with a sign - THIS IS FOR JACK WARNER  ;D

2) Everybody start to wine up on the corner flag, then take it out and jump up and wave it like Carnival Tuesday?

3) Do a "panman dance", ie imagine yuh playing pan and jumping up.

4) Do the IWER, BUTTERFLY, SHADOW, WAVE ?

Or should we jus stay conventional and run down the man and jump on him?

I feel we should come up with some imaginative celebrations to represent we Trini-ness.

Is level goals we scoring!

The defense stands out.
After a long season for all, very very hectic prep (many games) before June 10th, will our defenders be fresh?
Ideally, it woulda be nice to have a couple young defenders in that list, for freshness, energy, and also sustainability for 2010.
I guess we just dont have that luxury at the moment (talent).
We mighta think about taking a young keeper as well in place of Ince.

Football / TT and Sol Campbell's broken nose
« on: April 15, 2006, 07:09:13 AM »
It is never a good thing when a player gets injured, but since Sol break his nose last week, his place for the WC looks a little more under threat now.
I for one rate this man plenty plenty.

So besides Ferdinand and Terry, who else is England cover in the back?

Football / Wake Up Call !
« on: April 12, 2006, 10:18:01 AM »
Running the risk of sounding too negative in what is supposed to be our best year ever in football history, something has been bothering me for some time now.
After the events of the U-21 team for the CAC qualifiers and the last night  Ja -US game, I just hadda say it.
I personally believe that our football is in trouble.
A lot of teams that make the WC for the first time, mainly smaller teams, they become ALSO RANS, ie they fail to consistently achieve it, eg. Honduras, Jamaica, El Salvador.
Heck you could even throw in Canada in that group, and they have vast resources and thing too.
But I just don’t want to see T&T become  a team like that.

But lets just step back and watch the big picture.
Make no mistake about it, before Beenhakker came we were the worse of all 6 HEX teams, and when I say worse, I mean a couple classes below the rest.
When Beenhakker came, he injected something new to the team and we improved.
But, if it wasnt for 318 year old Latapy and 138 year old Dwight Yorke, we woulda still come in dead last in the Hex.
You might call it blasphemy, but to be honest, I dont think we are that much better than we were 1 year ago as many people make us out to be.
We hit a run of form yea, got a couple influential players to take the team on their back, got a second string Mexican team and to be honest,we all know, a dog shit team in bahrain. I thinik they still looking for their first win in about 3 years all now and the Gulf Cup done the odda day.
But think about it, shitty Bahrain had us sweating.
Anyone who knows football knows this Bahrain team would have gotten drubbed close to double figures vs a Mexican or England team etc etc.
They were pathetic.
And we almost choked at home in the first leg, something that is quickly becoming a trait for us in big, final games.
In Birchall we have consolidated the midfield ok.
But what will happen to us if Avery get injured?
God forbid, if Yorke gets injured between now and the WC, or even get injured or suspended, do we have the cover to feel confident of playing people like England?
If Stern gets injured, who will be our go to guy? We dont have another proved goalscorer at Caribbean level, far less CONCACAF, far less WORLD CUP.
My point is we have a team that got to the WC.
It is a phenomenal achievement anyhow u look at it.
We have improved vastly, but we are not a world class team yet as some might automatically think we are just for reaching the finals.
We have a serious lack of depth in back up.
Can we really feel honestly comfortable if Air Dog or Lawrence get injured/suspended?
I aint trying to blight we by saying this, but these are things you hadda think about, and I know these are worrying things for Beenie.
People like Freddy Lunberg, Henrik Larson, Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard don’t romp and play with what they might perceive as a bananna team or team jus making up numbers.
Next thing....
There is something I call the ripple effect.
Anytime a senior team does well, all other teams usually raise their standard and do ok too, maybe it just the increase in national hype, more people playing, more competition to make teams and emulate the hype and success of the big team....BUT WHER IS IT FOR US NOW?
We saw it in 1991 with the U-20 WC team in the aftermath of the Strike Squad.
We saw it in Jamaica after France 98, they qualified an U-20 and U-17 teams to various WC's.
We see the reverse with Panama, who had a great run at the last World Youth Tournament, now u see their big senior team has become a HEX team now and playing in the Gold Cup really well.

What is goin on with our other teams?

Our women were beaten.
Our U-20 were embarassed.
Compare this to Ja, who women team was in a playoff for the U-20 women world cup the odda day, and for all intents and purposes, are a step better than our girls.
Compare our U-20 mens team vs the Ja U-20 means team. They are taking care of business as we speak for the CAC qualifiers.
Is there anyone here brave enough to geniunely say that they were not impressed with Ja last night??
Do you all think that we coulda put out al almost exclisively U-21 team and draw with the US in the US??????????????????????
We cant even do that with our senior team. Heck our U-20's getting trouble with mickey mouse teams in the Caribbean now.
I was so impressed with Ja team, their youth and energy, the way they held shape and their technical ability for such youngsters.
Them fellas was bringing on men fresh out of college in the US, allkinda 19 year old and thing....and they run America good and proper.
I reiterate it, thank God for Ja lapse in concentration in the semi finals before the Hex, cause up to now, they are the only team that the US cannot seem to beat, home or away (they drew both games in the Semi WC round in 2004 as well).
But something somewhere is very wrong.
People like Lincoln Philips must be somewhat worried, as it is his ultimate responsibility in charge of all teams in the program.
Maybe I am overestimating the talent of our players at the moment, and maybe Lincoln’s long term plan will start to come good ina  couple years…I am not sure.
All I know is that we don’t have much cover for the senior  team. and our other  teams (women and youth) are underachieving, especially at a time when they should be on a high. What is to happen when Yorke, Latapy, Stern et al are not around for the next campaign?

Yes forumites, i've been away for a while, now trying to ketch up on the football happenings here, seems everything centered around Warner-Simpaul and the debate on Jemmott.
My 2 cents:

1) Warner deserve what he could get. The man real sacrifice and believe in the team. I personally feel if he want to charge 2 million dollars for a package and people paying for it, small thing. As far as I see, his tickets for the games are exclusive of the TTFF allocation. But one thing that has me real concerned in the apparant amateurism of the TT press. Every article u read is a different story, a different twist...a different method to get tickets. The more u read them articles, the more confused you get. I officially drop out the Germany bandwagon, cyah afford it, work commitment, etc etc.

2) KND right, Jemmott is overated big time.  As a  nex man ask, how we could contine on a topic so long for a overated player. KND smoking again, but he talk some sense in that Jemmot post.

I know meh post stand the chance of getting moved by Tallman for this carnival slant, but anyone in TT hear about Lara fete this year? I know it have a forumite here who does go every year like me, cyah rememebr who it was, but I hear a rumout that is $1200TT this year. Anyone can confirm this joke?

Flex say he willing to send some good luck stuff from us to the team.
This is it people, the biggest game of them all.
We have been on the boards for years, supporting the team for ages, been through some good times, but mainly many disappointments and heartbreaks.....
I want the true warriors to go and dig up their posts of inspiration just before the Mexico game....Rememebr the feeling we as supporters went into that game with? It was like we going to destroy whoever standing in our way to destiny.
I find that feeling was kinda lacking building up to the Bahrain game, is like we somehow thought Mexico was the be all and end all game, and since they were MEXICO, we would have to play the game of our lives. Well believe it or not, we will have to duplicate, if not better that now on Wed to get the dream.
I just find the vibes for Bahrain was not like the pre-Mexico vibes. Did we lose our zeal? Did we relax too much?
I will start, my Mex post was:
-------

I also notice men real real talking about Guatemala and how the CR team will be weak and hos it unfair to us.

Is it jus me, but dont we have our own destiny in our hands?

Simple.
Win and advance.
You at home, yuh team improving by the game, riding a high etc etc.
Yuh know what result u need.
Why concentrate on the Cr-Guat game???

If we cyah win on Wed and Guat win, we will be sad yes, but we just got pipped by a better team.
It was our fault alone we get 5 in Guatemala.

Enough of the other game, lets go and win on Wed.
Is big man out dey, if they cant summon up that will to win knowing the prize, we have not learnt from Nov 19th.
We should have the mentality even if is Brazil or france we playing at home on Wed and they stand between us and the WC, they getting wet still.
Mexico is better than us, we all know this, but you dont have to be better to win at this level.

We hadda play like a pack of hungry dog, and fight 100% for every single ball and run like we never run before.
---------
And I will add to this now - BLOOD IN YUH SHOES, that is the cry for wednesday.
Our destiny is in our own hands, and we going in on even terms. Winner take all on Wed, we have it all to play for. The magnitude of this game will be talked about for a generation to come, win or lose, so lets please make it a good memory for us and so many kids who not even born yet.
We have to chase every ball like life depend on it, tackle every opposition like they are satan, and make the extra stretch and burse of speed like if the world coming to an end.
I saw what this kind of effort did on Oct 16. We played like Champions, Mexico were stomped off the field. I am sure that same Mexican team would maul Bahrain.....
Come on guys, lets put our disappointments to rest and run like we possessed. Play with tears in your eyes if you have too, and blood in your boots for 5400 seconds!
The greatest thing in life awaits the ones who are victorious!
I have cried too many times in the past for our football, I will cry again on Wed, win or lose.
I know the players will too....Lets show the world, we can step up and play like men who deserve to be on the biggest of stages.
No prisoners whatsoever, no cards to worry about, it all comes down to this...BAHRAIN DEAD!
No way a country who win one game in their last 7 WC Qualifiers and controversially had FIFA let them replay a game they lost should be worthy of going to a World Cup, no way! No way ahead of the pedigree that T&T possesses...No way ahead of our history! No way ahead of all the dues we have paid in the past!
Vibes up!
Blood in yuh shoes!
Destroy these UPSTARTS! Even if it was Brazil we was playing in Brazil for a World Cup spot, they woulda get the fight of their life!
Rememebr the feeling after the game on Oct 16th, players and fans.......Multiply that by a million...That awaits us on Wednesday!

Football / For the record
« on: November 14, 2005, 01:14:02 PM »
Just for the record, doh delete yet Flex....

It is now 1pm here in the US, on Mon 14 Nov.

In exactly 2 days, I will be retreiving this post to make a point.

T&T WILL GO THROUGH!

We have won 4 must win games under Beenie thus far.

We have come back from deficits vs Guatemala and Mexico, and in both games, we were in more dire straits than we are now.

We were 20 mins from elimination, needing 2 goals. We got it.
We hadn't gotten a point on the road and needed a win in Panama, we got it.
And we all know about the setbacks we overcame in the 90 mins vs Mexico.
Heck, we even responded in 3 mins vs bahrain....
Point is , the team has proved it has a battling heart and can come back into games.
We have done it against better teams and in seemingly worse situations.

As it is right now, the score is 1-1 and it is half time.
Plenty players know they didnt do justice and will be fiery to correct that.

Sit back and watch the ride!
Vibes it up!
I 100% behind my warriors and know they will overcome this next obstacle.
No need to worry, T&T jus doing what they do best, making it interesting and close.
The drama will make the accomplishment sweeter.

Football / Ok people, listen to a voice of reason
« on: November 13, 2005, 08:57:28 PM »
Having been a veteran poster, one thing I have learnt that affects all of us is the emotion of the moment.
This is why I am making my first post about the game and the situation we are in a full day after the result.
I felt like many here with regard to our display and the result.
I am more sad with the result than the performance, which I will explain in a second.
But before the game I was preaching about conceeding a goal.
I said I would not mind a 0-0 draw, as I am always confident that T&T would score, no matter who they playing, and I cant remember T&T being scoreless in 2 consecutive games.
But we did concede a goal, but that is all in the past now. Nothing we do or say or cry or cuss can change the score and the situation we are in now. Forget about who had a bad game, who fault it was etc etc.
These are the same players we need at 100% mental focus to bring it home for us.
To me, Bahrain played a very good game. They started off looking like an intercol team, but got into it and had a plan. They neutralised us good and proper, something like how an obviously less skillful team like Jamaica usually does when they play us.
But can they do it again?
I doubt very much.
We have now played agasint them and gotten their feel.
We have the game tape for Beenie to do his work.
And we also have no suspensions like Baharin has, who have lost to me 2 of their better players.
We also are no strangers to this situation. We have won 4 do or die games under Beenie, same stress, and gotten the resolve to do it.
Bahrain has won 1 game in their last 7. They did look dangerous at times in attack, but i think it was due to some poor positioning, nervousness of our wingbacks and the slick slippery ground.
We are a better team than them, hands down.
Latas know the last 17 years of his senior national days comes down to one game, and he knows he owes us a magical game. Rest assured, he will be coming guns blazing.
How Latapy plays, the T&T team plays.
Lets not get caught up in fighting down the team, madness.
We didnt lose, thats the good thing, and yes we had a sub-standard performance, but rememebr the Mexico game. When it matters, the boys will come though. We definitely will not have 2 sub standard games in a row. And this is why I am not so worried about the performance on Sat night.
Look at it this way, we have come one better than 89, when we choked on the last day and lost.
This team refuses to lose, allyuh aint realise that?
Leh we vibes it up fellas!
This is very very very far from over....Once we get on the board, I see us qualifying for Germany, as I dont see Bahrain beating us in a goal feast. And anything above a 1-1 draw will see us advance.
Lets look at the whole thing in context, not focus on bad talking players from the last game. Everyone is human and entitled to bad games, especially under such circumstances. These same players were Gods and heroes vs Mexico to all of us.
I cannot see Baharin keeping us from scoring, and once we score, we erase the away goal.
My only reservation is the defense. We let in almost as much as we score.
Even if they score, again, it doesnt change the fact that we need to score at least one to be still in it.
I just hope it doesnt come down to penalties, cause everybody done know how I feel about blight man Yorke taking penalties.....And I dont see Latas lasting 120 mins into a shootout....
PS - I going for my 3rd Nostradamus prediction in a row.
1) When Stern was shitting on he tail in the Guat game and the crowd was baling for him to come off, I was in the chatroom where the feelin was the same, but i get a vision and say LEAVE STERN ON - the numbers game always come true, he owes us and will come through again. BAM! 2 goals from Stern!
2) I said once we beat Panama in Panama, there is no way that Mexico would deny us the momentum of getting that playoff spot. I had seen the birth of the fire in the T&T team.  BAM! So said so done.

And now....
Having dodged the bullet of losing in POS, which would have been worse psychologically that actually, there is no way bahrain can keep us off the board for 90 mins more.
We will score, but i think they will score too, its just that we will score more than 1 goal.
T&T will qualify.
Yorke owes us his first goal of the campaign and Latas is too good to have consecutive sub standard games.

If we qualify....

Will Truetrini sign a one day pact and make friend with Triniman?

Will KND first prediction come through?

Will Bimblast and StinPana come and say CONGRATS?

Will RF GENUINELY make a post and rate T&T without comparing it to something Jamaica did.

Will Bah Bah buller disappear forever?

Bring on d game?!
My name from now till next Wed is TURBO-TRINI!
I in the hyperdrive mode.

See what Ass-nal try today in the Premier League with Henry and Pires.
I would like to see that though.
Never thought of taking a penalty like that.

Football / How did Bahrain get this far?
« on: October 19, 2005, 12:53:59 PM »
How on earth did FIFA order a replay between them and Uzbekistan?
After all, Uzbekistan had scored and was leading, then got a penalty.

The penalty had to be retaken because of a uzbek player who ran into the box as the kick was being taken.

I know it was an error by the Japan referee to award the indirect free kick to Bahrain, when the penalty kick should have been retaken. So actually Uzbekistan should have been up 2-0 then.
Just having to retake the penalty is punishment enough. Just Ask Yorke who scored the penalty vs Mexico in the gold cup, and Wise had run in the box, and he had to retake it (which he went on to miss). Maybe we could ask FIFA for a replay of that game??

How did FIFA find a way to make the game replayed?

I could have understood the decision if it was BAHRAIN who got the penalty then got denied the retake.

It was actually Uzbekistan who appealed the game and wanted a 3-0 win, instead, like they get FIFA vex and end up having to replay the game.
The rest as we know is history.

I personally find that is not fair to Uzbekistan.
Imagine that happen to T&T, boy is riot and thing.
Jack will bring out the RIPPER in him.
Seriously, allyuh aint find that unfair and suspicious?
FIFA like they gone mad recently.
Best we ask for a commision of enquiry into Haiti 1973.
If these kinda decisions being made now that seem so incredible, FIFA should let us play in Germany to make up for 1974.
We should also appeal the bug that the US planted under our dug-out in the 89 qualifiers, or even the penalty that was turned down on Nov 19, 1989.

I serious.

Football / Jus watch the game again
« on: October 13, 2005, 09:00:33 PM »
Funny the things u see when u watching it a second time, without the tension, and knowing in the back of yuh head, yuh watching a joyful event.
Boy, looking at this a second time, I feel i changing my MVP to Air Dog yes.
He make a run in the 45th min like a train stright dong mexico throat. The man had latas free to his left jus out the box running into even better space, a sure pass and most likely goal, but he decide this is the AIR DOG show and leggo. LOL He aint even watch Latas after, he jus trot back down the pitch.
The second half down on Avery flank and man get away and Air D eat up the ground and fly in with a piece of blade yes. You hadda be a brave man to see that big creole coming at 100mph, more than likely screaming his traditional "DOG" when he coming thru. All ah see is the man like he jus skip out the way and a heap of dust on the grass. Talk bout swipe. King swipe Avery give him a bounce for that. But the funny thing is both defenders thought it was a corner and already run to line up to defend, but like the linesman was in shock at the brutality and jus give we a goalkick. Air Dog, although a lill surprised, start pointing at the goal spot location like he did know all along, jokey yes.

Then he make a run again through the Mex defense and set up Stern for his potential hattrick, but the backflick was scrambled away.

Boy, Dog was a real giant in this game, he real play he heart out and take no prisoners (usual Dog game I guess), but like he step it up. NOTHING coulda get through, and he was doing it on offennse and defense.

And ah hadda mention the sex latas hit the man in the 75 min, oh my Lord!
If anyone have the game, allyuh watch over that, geezan.

The crowd response to the second goal was unreal, if yuh hear noise.
Them spanish commentators was decent man, much better than 105 tempo. I get real kicks, and they had real emotion.
It had a time coming to the end carlos had he jersey sleeve roll up, and all he tatoo was showing, the linesman call him and tell him to fix it, but like Carlos thought the man was jumbying him, usual trini mentality nah.... the linesman was just motioning, but like carlos was unaware of the sleeve and only waving he hand at the linesman. The commentator say a whole heap of spanish, but I hear them say "edwards " , "cameroon" and "basketball", LOL
Anil Roberts mout real big in true too boy.

Football / Ok, lets talk some football
« on: October 13, 2005, 06:58:14 PM »
One full day after what was perhaps the best moment of T&T footballing history, let me digress a little from the game.

1) Will Span and Sancho find a way back in the team now after that display from the back 4?

2) What will be our gameplan if Stern get injured (knock wood people and pray)? We dont have another post up player like him, so I imagine the entire plan for attack will change somewhat.

3) We have about one month till destiny. Are there any FIFA dates where we can perhaps arrange a friendly or a camp at least? If we are to look for an opponent, who do you suggest?

4) Should we be practising a lot of penalties over the next month? I mean the game could come to that and I personally find T&T historically does thow away too many penalties (Gold Cup 2000, vs USA in 1994, Nov 19, last night come to my mind quickly)

5) Will Jack lose his spot to Shaka? Shaka look real real confortable last nite and made a couple plays that maybe Jack might have made, but it harder to envision that.

6) Do we have any suspensions for Bahrain?

If allyuh want we could put these off for next weke and lap up some more of the greatness that was last nite!
I going and watch over that game yes!

Football / First game report
« on: October 12, 2005, 10:33:03 PM »
Well I had the pleasure of taking in the game on Telemundo (And I tape it for those who interested).

I reach home a lill early, duck all the wannabe waggonits from the caribbean up here in Austin, cause I wanna see the game home by myself.

I put on Homeview and I decide that I will listen to radio and watch it on tv. Then it hit me that I woulda have to listen to Selwin Melville et al, and I cringe up meh face. I hear the commentary start on the radio with Selwin Melville start to talk f**king spanish - "Buenas Noches senors and senoritas"..well boy now I know the assness start. I was almost thanking God when I realise that the radio commentary was about 60 seconds behind, so I decide to bun fire on homeview and take in the spanish on Telemundo. But he and John Williams made a very very good point and it is worth mentioning...We all believe that since the first leg is in CONCACF, we would have the advantage as Bahrain would have to travel twice, and us only once. But the fact is Bahrain could come here 2 weeks in advance if they want and get acclimatised good, play the game and then there will be no advantage for the CONCACAF team as both teams will have to fly back right after for the second leg.

Real nice looking crowd, plenty drums and vibes. I buy a home theatre system last week, so  I feel like I was in the stadium. Crowd all behind me and drum with real bass coming from dong low. I was feeling it, although I was nervous.
I drop on meh knee and start a quick seta prayers, although I dont like to do that. I aint go lie, I was nervous, TT past has made me like that.
Tweet game start and I decide to start taking some quick notes.
Here goes:

Starting lineup - Jack, Air Dog, Giraffe, Maldini Gray, Blade Avery, Birchall, Seaton, Carlos, Yorke, Stern and Latas. Just as I though and hoped, Jones would not have been played.

2 mins - Bam! FLikking caption on the screen saying that Guatemala score! Lord, i start to sweat already, knowing we done have to win by ourself. Same time I notice that them star boy Fonseca look jus like Figo, wonder if is him...Then I hear commentator calling the stopper for them HUGO SANCHEZ, dread, wha the hell is this i start to wonder.

The crowd start to ake real noise and do the wave, it looking real nice, same time the caption come across that Guatemala score again. I wonder if the crowd getting any info.

15 mins - Latas switch to the RM position and Carlos went left. Nice move, we were running. Mexico wasnt getting any time to settle, we was playing good. They threatened to start stringing passes after about 5 mins, but we quickly kill that. Then I remember that the game when we play them under BSC in POS, thats exactly what they did. This time we were much more solid, you could see the organisation in the TT team.

17 mins - Nice attacking run and bullet from out the box by Yorke/Whitely. Good sign I say. We shooting, and it not far off. Right after I see Latas run in and put dong a piece of skill and create a chance, I bawl. Before I done bawl, the team create a next nice sequence resulting in a Stern Shot. Daaamn, we playing.

22 mins - Telemundo camera pan on the crowd and I swear I see Big magician in the crowd. There was some nice gyal around.

24 mins - Mex break, the ball play into the box and bouncing high, Jack reach it first but fall awkardly. My personal opinion is that the Mex player could have reached it if he did karate jumpkick it.

27 mins - Baaam! Guatemala 3 - CR 0. I now know it soundling like a sell out. More nervousness as I know T&T will have to earn their spot. We have a tendency to play ball sometime and dont make the best of it and get sting on counter attacks. It was shaping up to be like that.

30 mins - Corner and from a clear pull dong on Stern, Penalty. Lord, now I start wondering. I ask the question yesterday on the forum and I point out the Yorke misses I knew about. I see Stern step up, they giving the man in form the opportunity. When he line up, I see like he nervous and stumble playing like he want to take the kick even before the ref blow the whistle. I say geez, we dead. I couldnt look and I went on meh knees and close meh eyes. All I hear is one seta spanish, but I could make out it was not good news, and I hear the commentator excited and no noise from the crowd. I open meh eyes and see the replay. Good connection on the kick but very very telegraphed. Any though of "it is going to be one of those nights" were then confirmed. I just get blue and out of it. I see all the players run up to stern and start patting him on d back to console him fast fast. I done starting to see the posts here tomorrow about half slab miss. I get real demoralised. I jus know we was going to get wet. The crowd gone silent, still in shock, like the players get demoralised too for a brief time.

38 mins - Inevitable...Mexico score. I coulda bet my house on that coming. But what a ras goal. f**khole! That is a boss goal. Only Latas on we team could try something like that. Is one of the best goal I ever see in meh life. The man get the ball, it was half bouncing, few inches off the ground and he jus kinda half tap - half volley it it straign up in the air, like a deft chip. Jack gone scrambling, and it take forever to come down. Nestle sweet in the far corner with jack lunging at air. That was boss. I say we dead now, but at least an international class beauty goal did us in.
The crowd gone totally silent and I say the floodgates could open.
But this is not the same T&T team a few months ago.
Them fellas have heart from Guatemala and Panama and it show.
Seaton who was having a beauty of a game, make a nice run dong the left, cut in the centre and leggo a bullet. The keeper went scrambling and it cannon off the upright like a bullet. Guess who it went straight to? Boy, as a forward in meh days, I realise Stern is the supreme finisher. That ball come back out just as hard as the bullet on the post. It coulda hit stern anywhere on hs body. 99% of the time it will be uncontrollable. I dont know how stern had the strength and positioning and body control to just shape up his body so that it would hit his leg at an angle that it would go straight back into the next. That was a goal, wow. Any forward in the world would be proud of that goal. BUT! All the replay show...when the shot was taken, the man look jus slightly offside. I dont know if the offside rule has anything to do with rebounds off posts though. I say we was lucky. It could have been called by the linesman, but it was real tight and it happen so so fast. The bullet by Seaton is what start the entire chain of events. Anyhow! 1-1! and I erupt here by mehself and start to bawl.
The rest of the half, boy, Edwards hit a man a body feint on the right wing by the corner flag, lord have mercy. If forumites here was to play a game, it look like something truetrini would do triniman,
Boy, edwards back was to the defender who was on him close. He jus fan over to ball and move his body like he going right and the mexican defender went right like he never went right before. The man back nearly break when he realise is a shake. Even Carlos heself like he get stunned and didnt believe he shake the man bad so, he kinda stumble over the ball when he realise he had so much room, LOL. What a shake! The entire stadium erupt.
1 min later jus before half time, ball float in to stern, who was now in heat like Sam.
Stern jump and chest the ball and turn in the air, and in the movement cap the last defender, real nice skill, but when he try to connect the finishing volley to end the move..Wooooosh! only air and 2 blade of grass. That woulda have been a beauty,
Tweet! Half time.
I run to meh laptop and skim thru the posts to get the feeling of the board.
Boy, Guat leading 3-0 and we tied 1-1. As usual Trinidad finding a way to keep we scared shitless.

I call up some partners in the stadium home, they say nice woman but real tension.

Second half start.
Well I stop taking meh lill notes, i was pacing ever since we equalise, AC on cold and I sweating. Too nervous to do anything yes. I woulda dead if I was in the stadium, I cyah wait for them fellas and they stale drunk ass to report tomorrow on the tension.
All I remember is that we come out sparking from the whistle, like Beenie does really have an impact in the dressing room at half time yes.
Ah see one of meh sweet trini gyal friends in the crowd, i hadda call she and tell she i ketch she yes.
Everything was a blur of nervousness up till stern score. I remember a mexican going to clear a ball kinda wild in a tackle with seaton outside his box and the ball fall in stern's path, about 10 yards out the box. He didnt have much men close by, so he just guide it down with his right foot and leggo a laser beam left shot from a few yards out the box...GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
Wow, what a bullet.
Only a man on top his game and confidence sky high could do that. It even beat back Angus goal vs Canada in 2000. What a bullet, kinda similar to the Panama goal actually on Saturday.
Well boy the stadium gone mad!
If u see wine, if u see fete. I real jealous the forumites who was there. All I want to hear is the feeling at that point.

18 min second half - Yorke start to take over and show his experience, he drop down and fake injury to kill time and settle the now fiery Mexicans who thirst for a goal now. Very very smart play.
The mexicans start to string some passes together and I see T&T start to settle in a defensive mood, and again I start to worry. Wha d hell! more than 20 mins to go and them start defend????
We get a breakaway on the half line, it drop to stern and would u believe....he see the keeper off he line and with men on his back and pressure, leggo a lob from about 50 yards! I say madness.
But then it start to sail toward the goal. Next thing it start to dip into the goal! Damn keeper made a real good recovery and fly back and puch it overbars. The crowd bawl. Stern stop and bawl...so so so near. Again, it would take a man who real real confident to try that. After that like Mexico realise that they were facing something more than human in the form of Stern John and get frighten. We take back over the game real fast. Edwards make a twisting run again and nearly break the Mexican left back back again, if u see shake, and cut and twist, I was watching and meh eyes was getting shake. The man look like Garrincha! He make Giggs look small. I feel real sorry for the Mexican left back. But at the end of the twisting run, he cross in and Air dog come in and but wide. Oh ah forget to the end of the first half, flikkin Air Dog make a run down the centre of the field throught the Mexican team and leggo a bullet that just sail overbars yes. I laugh.
But back to the second half where T&T was now taking complete control. Mexican attacks dry up like Bhaji and T&T started hunting a third. The catalyst behind the attacks was the magician. I feel like I am doing him an injustice by only now mentioning him. But every time Latas touch the ball, the Mexican team was in fear. No one dared tackle him. He did what he wanted. It was so amazing to see that kind of display. He look even better than the Latas of old. Latas hit some men some shake and cut, it was like how Jordan used to advantage men in the NBA. I see a play with he, dwight and Stern to finsh, that he himself start with a run from half line. The man just skipping past tackles and sending men the wrong way, one touch with dwight, skip a few more tackles and lay off the defense splitting pass to stern who run, round the keeper and put it in, but this time he was offside and they call it. It was like exhibition football, small goal thing now. It remind me of the Nov 19 game in 94 when we play the US in POS and we was running rings around them.
Daaaamn. I started to get brave and think that we were actually toying with Mexico and doing what we wanted. Then I remember Trinidad talent for finding a way to balls up a seeming impossible situation.
Mexico have a left back the commentator was only calling WICKEY, the man look ike a real bamboo wild indian, but like he back did really break with carlos shakes and they take him off. Is only them I see how they spell the man name - HUIQUI! The commentator was almost calling him --WICKEEEED!
I real laugh.
We make a token mistake in the back and the Mex attacker run onto a half chance, but i forget to mention Shaka had come in half time for Jack who had injured himself in the first half twice. Boy, Shaka run out and bounce on that ball and gobble it up so majestically and fast and kill that half chance...... i start to thank Jesus. I was struggling to visualise Jack making a confident play like that. We overlook Shaka plenty, but just by that one play, I know Shaka is still a class above Jack. Shaka save we dey, no doubt. He still has it. What a boss.
The rest of the game peter out into something I have never seen Trinidad do.
We literally start playing with blood in we shoes.
Any attack them Mexicon come up with, Blade Avery swiping like he mad, if u see the look in his eyes, them Mexicans get frighten. I see some ball bobbling in the box and Air Dog coming like Godzilla a booming the ball, fellow defender and attacker out the box, all in one swing.
Them fellas real fight that last 15 mins. It was pure will and fight that mash up everyting Mexico could bring. In between all this gutsy defense, wheneever we get the ball, we jus kick it up to Latas, and he would jus terrorise the mexican defenders one on one or even two of them. Like he was putting down a clinic. When he needed to, he was pulling men and making deft chips into place for free men. Breathtaking! I will tell my children I got the pleasure of seeing one of the greatest and skilfull footballers THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN...PERIOD! It was like a man and boys...Mexico didnt even want to tackle him cause he would embarass them.
35 mins- He put dong a spanner on a man from a short corner after some dancing on the ball....oh gosh, why he had to do that?????? Crowd erupt, and at the end of it, he whip in a cross that was real dangerous actually. I think Air Dog was lurking and managed to get a but that went wide.
It was now the Latapy show. He singlehandedly kill the game by running the ball into the corner and sharing beat like food.
39 mins -We get a late chance from some nice work on the right wing from Dog out of all people (heh heh) who make a run again and cross in to Stern. Boy, stern try a back heel flick. I done start to bawl goal, but a defender went spralwing and skating and just manage to deflect the ball on the upright. Daaaaamn, that woulda be a sweet hattrick!
I only watching the clock and nervous now, but we playing real good. Skill like rain on the 2 flanks, deadly man in the middle and heart and fight in the midfield and defense. fellas we play almost the perfect game in the second half.
Then ah start thinking the unbelievable...Trinidad actually could win the game! CR had pulled back one early in the second, but no more updats came, so I know it was still 3-1 there. I start to think of how we would transpire to lose this game after playing so good. Then I think the crowd. The camera pan in on the army watching the jubilant crowd who was jumping ever since stern score the second in about the 65th min...and i wonder if they going to storm, and next thing FIFA disqualify we...Stress again.
42 min- Carlos tear up the left back for the 764636873 time and leggo a bullet that hit a defender flush in he head and put him dong for the count. It was cruel but I laugh. To me it sum up the game. Trinidad were Mexico's daddy tonite by way they played. When I see stretcher had to come on and thing, I know we wasnt going to lose it. I spend the last 10 mins on meh knees after pacing whole game yes. TT players was on pure adrenalain. Mex hit a long ball in we defense, ref blow for offside, but wild man Gray, now all alone, still went flying through the air to head it out for a throw, talk bout laugh i laugh.
For the last 5 mins, Latas effectively killed the game on the 2 flanks, with his close control, he just held it there, Mex was fraid to get embarass, and they was just poking for more corners and throws. Brillliant by the magician.
Tweeeeeeeeeeettttttttttt! FINAL WHISTLE!
Players start to run in circles and jump on each other and the crowd erupt! I need not say no more, will leave that for the fellas who went the game...................

Overall analysis
1) Jack - Solid as usual, didnt have much to do, most of his action was getting injured twice. Nothing he could do about the goal. Brilliant mexican goal.
2) Air Dog - Champion! Was like a beast tonite, eat up everything and I see him run back and make some bone crunching tackles only the Air Dog can do. A phenom!
3) Lawrence - Tall man was not as spektakula as Air Dog, but he fight like I never see him fight. He and Andrews have the centre lock up!
4) Avery - Share blade as usual, all heart. Warrior to the bone. Excellent game
5) Wild man Gray - Same as dog, he fight like a lion, see him make some run back and flying tackles, what a beast. He real lock it dong.
6) Birchall - Fight for 95 mins and did all the little thing u need someone to do. A must!
7) Seaton - This was his coming out game. people, Seaton has arrived!  A gem of a game, play like Nakhid...the man run at the mixicans and was unleasing bullet all over the place. I so happy for him. The occasion definitely made him grow up today.
8) Yorke - Typical Yorke, fight every ball, and was the class in the middle. His control, vision, and importantly in the second half, calming influence, were invaluable. True true leader!
9) Carlos - he get the prize for embarassing the opposition. He too wicked. With him on the right, we set. Mexico had no answer for his skill and crossing and even defense.
10) Stern John - What can I say about stern that hasnt been said tonight? All I can say is that he is the real big man. To miss penalty and come back like he did. We cannot begin to understand how great this man is. People, Stern is back. 5 goals in 4 games. I said it over and over, for us to go Germany, we need Stern John to find back his old form or some next striker to get the form of their life. The scary thing is that he is back, and he knows it. He could have scored 4 tonite, very very easily. The way he playing too, u could see he has his confidence back. He real fight the game and show real skill and class too. I will safely say I was never a forumite who bad mout stern. I was never a forumite who once say he should be benched, I was never one to curse or make disparaging remarks about him (well maybe once i did suggest that he may do with coming on as a second half sub)...but i hold my head up high, and not many of allyuh could say the same, I know if is anybody to deliver for T&T it would be stern. This man is pure greatness. Any team in CONCACAF would die for him now. Before this Hex, his record spoke for itself. how men could curse and say them kinda thing about the man i never could understand. I rememebr when we was playing Guatemala in POS and he was always offside and throwing away and everybody bawling for him to come off, I was in the chatroom and say hold allyuh horses, watch and see Stern come good in this game. I know the numbers game always evens out, and stern is class, he proved it so long before, only a matter of time before he found it again. No disrespect, but men like Glen and Sealy and Scotland could only watch in awe at this man. They might be more mobile and create excitement in the box, but none of them could finish like him. Few can.
Stern I hope u keep it up for Bahrain. We need u, your job almost done bredrin.
Latas...Latas...latas...I'll be man anough to say I shrivel when they say he coming back out of retirement. I was his biggest fan in the 90's, he was the only foreign pro who used to come back and play all them jokey game. T&T did love him, he used to get announce last and get the most noise. Men get vex with him and Yorke when they quit in 2001, and i say a million times allyuh dont know the full story, allyuh dont know how dealing with the TTFF is....I see after the Ja game, men walking with placards saying to banish him to the whorehouse. I didnt feel that way toward him, but i was sad when he came back only due to the fact that we had to rely on an old man again, who could not do it for us in his prime. So what could he do now, but more importantly, how sustainable is that? Why the f**k we youths aint stepping up? It was the principle.
But Latas is a magic man. Cyah replace him and apparantly he still had it. We will have to wait a next generation before we get someone like him, IF WE LUCKY.
Tonight, he was  my MVP.
Stern score the goals yes, but LATAS run the show from start to finish,
Mexico were scared of him, he controlled the tempo brilliantly and always made things happen.
What a game.
I am so glad I have this on tape. It was like Latas, ahem I mean T&T vs Norway back in 96.
For those who didnt see the game, you all miss a masterpiece by latapy.
We should show this too all the young players coming up.
Boy I still cyah believe Latas at 37 still have 23 year old defenders biting the dirt with shake.
Geezan! Zidane would do well to take notes from Latas tonite.

Well meh hand tired now, so I leave the rest to rest of men who went the game, I cant wait.
Lets celebrate a little and not study Bahrain yet.
I still cyah believe we win nah!
PS - listened to the post conference and all i manage to get was stern talking about the penalty and how he come back afterwards....boasting about how he had a bet going with latas and yorke who had the best left foot...LOL...Real strength of character there. Also, Yorke mentioned that they got the Guatemala 3-0 news on the pitch, and even after Mex score, it was real tough out there. Allyuh could imagine that pressure getting that news, missing penalty and conceeding?????????????
Them fellas real fight yes!
Amazing! The greatest night of Trinidad and Tobago football me so far!
