Now they get a decent friendly  :rotfl:

I will believe it only when the Finnish team come out to warm up at the Haseley. Before then, I will not be commenting on it.

Agreed.
Hearing this bullshit now for years....

Promised to take position seriously and work hard.
No word on Pfister.

Football / Football Academy
« on: November 17, 2011, 09:07:16 AM »
I am sure this idea has been discussed of and on over the last few years, but I see no better time to at least commission a feasibility study to explore the possibilities of a football academy....

The TTFF could take a page out the TTCB books and design something conceptually similar. If you really serious, there are lots of smart young people in T&T who have formal training both a home and foreign to assess sporting management like this. Ajax and Barcelona do it from about age 9-10, the US even has their Adidas Generation/Project 40 deal where the vast majority of their national players come from, I am sure Mexico has some elite thing, its not rocket science - everybody knows ACADEMY = BETTER PERFORMANCE, the main thing is the WILL to to do it and the feasibility/profitability of it.

I am impressed with the T&T cricket team how new young players can just cycle into the national team and look totally at ease and contribute from the get go. They have a very good thing going down at the Academy Center in Couva and T&T has been enjoying unprecedented success in youth and senior and female cricket over the last decade.

This obviously will have to be supported by the Govt to an extent though, at least to start :-(

I wonder if some rich business men could invest in this for 10 year olds, develop them both football and educationally and hold the rights to them for future professional contracts and transfers... Obviously the majority of these kids will not become superstars, but it will help in many other areas as well.

We (TTFF) should at least explore the possibilities...

Pfister gets US$50,000 a month salary.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

“That level of salary is on the final path to greatness as a team to qualify for a World Cup and we have been knocked out from the top level of football, therefore we cannot justify paying the elite level coach.”

With regards to the US$50,000 salary, Roberts said it was only for World Cup qualification because when you qualify for a World Cup the benefits it can bring to T&T cannot even put that value in monetary terms.

No Minister Roberts, that level of salary is not for coaches on the final path to greatness, its actually the lower end of the salary range for international coaches for countries who are serious about the long term development of football. But I am sure you know this because your Ministry obviously has a HR dept who has all this information on international pedigree coaches right? Ever wonder why we ended up with Pfister and not Quiroz? It wasn't because Pfister scored higher than Quiroz on the technical evaluation by the TTFF committee (aka Jack Warner's opinion), its because the $600K salary offer was a joke to the $2 million he got from Iran.

And if your belief that this salary is only to be used on the final path of WC qualification, then that confirms the long held belief that our administrators cannot think long term.

No wonder we cannot have sustainable progress. SMH

From the TTFF to the Government we have incompetent administrators. And I thought Gary Hunt was the lowest we could have gotten.

With this win yesterday, T&T extends its unbeaten streak at home to:

7 games (15 months).
Scored 24, conceded 3.
Not conceded a goal at home in 5 games.

Boy am I struggling to see positives these days...

Football / Re: T&T ends W/Cup campaign with 2-0 win over Guyana.
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:35:56 AM »
when a man post like that you could hear pain.
To be honest, I hurtin too, but in a way not too bad...Maybe its a combination of many previous heartbreaks from T&T football, or also knowing that deep down we genuinely not at the quality top make the WC, combined with the fact that off field wranglings just adding to our handicap.
I started following T&T football right after I got introduced to world football in the 86 world cup, so I have been let down in 89, in 92 when ja bump us out, in 98 when we get knock out the semifinal round after the costa ricans clinically hack latas in the first game to injury, to the feb 2001 game on ash wednesday in Kingston when we had imho the stroungest T&T team assembled and lost to a second string Ja team and derailed that campaign to the debacle of throwing away a 2 goal  lead vs El Salvador  in the last Hex first game that, just like 2001, derailed that campaign.
Hurt is nothing new for T&T supporters. But a new low is being beaten by this level of opposition.

What we need is a new philosophy for the national team, that must be agreed upon by whatever federation we have in place as they are the ones ultimately responsible in financing and implementing it. Imagine Anil Roberts saying as far as he concerned, no more expensive foreign coach, cause now we in developmental mode. LOL. That typifies it right there, imagine the short sightedness of a man who supposed to be passionate about sports in T&T. His plan of scouting the country for talent and development is good in principle, but you need more than that. Football is an investment. We need a leader, a technical director of football for all levels to get this consistency and philosophy going. Unless we have this, we have no plan. If you have no plan, you doomed to resorting to familiarity, ie vikie vie preparation like we have been doing for eons.

The few times I recall T&T team playing with an identity was in
1) 88-89 - strike squad and Gally era
2) in 1999-2000 when BSC had the team for an extended period and the culmination was almost winning the Gold Cup and topping a semi-final group WCQ group with Mexico, Panama and Canada (some might say Porterfield, but he was thrown in charge just before the qualifiers after BSC was fired by football guru Jack Warner and was lucky to inherit the team that BSC moulded)
3) 2005-2006 with Beenhakker, who had us for the first time playing as a compact, competitive unit.

I will go as far to say that we have very good coaches here at home, as Shabbaz says, excellent coaches who, if we get the right people and momentum going can take us back to dominating the Caribbean Cups once again and challenging at the Hex level, BUT, as I always believed and still do now, if we are to step out from caribbean elite to CONCACAF elite and world competitive level, we need an EXPERIENCED INTERNATIONAL coach/technical director. There are some things no matter how smart you are and talented as a local coach, having international experience will always win out.
This works in every single industry with employees. Experience is a helluva thing. We saw Beenhakker transform the T&T team into a combative unit at world levels - you think this is coincidence that it occurred under a coach who has seen more football than all our local coaches combine? And you still have some idiots still vex that Latapy didnt get more playing time at the world Cup. Imagine you start 38 year old Latas instead of a young and dynamic Densil Theobald, to partner a 33 year old Dwight Yorke in midfield, we would have lost all 3 WC games by half time.
Allyuh remember in all Beenhakker interviews, in addition to being arrogant and pissing off Flex (lol), the one peeve he always had was the mentality of the local based players? He said if allyuh want to stay at this level and play on the beach on sunday, go ahead, but that is not what he about. His greatest contribution was to instill a level of discipline and competitiveness that would enable us to compete with the best in the world. The other things like tactical structure, higher fitness levels, scouting opposition etc obviously helped.

Imagine poor shabbaz now going to come up against Costa Rica who yesterday almost beat Spain. I agree that Shabbaz is a talented coach, but at this level when top national teams are so sophisticated and tactically switching every 3 minutes, how you expect to get results?
Courses is one thing, do a million of them, but putting in the man-hours is something that only experience can bring.

The other thing is that everybody saying we must use this experience as a lesson to never let it happen again, what a load of crap. That's the one thing we have been consistently hearing over the decades. Having undergone so many failures, every single time it happen, you guaranteed of hearing the same thing. When we lost in 1989, I remember hearing our players were too inexperienced at this level, so it was a learning experience and will help us in the future. 22 years later we ballsing up in Guyana in crunch time and not up for the game??? These repetitive failures makes these supposed lessons look like lip-service, said at the time to lighten a disappointing moment. What is crystal clear is that this recent failure will not serve as any lesson for the future. Come next qualifiers, this experience will be barely remembered. Why didnt we learn from what happened in the WCQ game vs Bermuda in Macoya in 2007?

For us to move forward we need an experienced, world class TD in charge of our football program, plain and simple. And this aint gonna happen until the TTFF sort itself out and the Minister of Sport is changed.
Anything less will see us having to wait until we produce another golden generation of footballers we seem to produce every 4 qualifying campaigns, and other CONCACAF teams simultaneously going through a dip.

Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Guyana Game (15-Nov-11).
« on: November 15, 2011, 11:51:29 AM »
Since Jamaica beat T&T August 2010, we have played 6 games in T&T.
We have won all 6, outscoring the opposition 22 - 3.
We have not conceded a goal in 4 games.
The opposition list reads St Vincent, Guyana, Haiti, India, Bermuda and Barbados, but it matters not.
Winning is a mentality that is manifested by habit.

When T&T beat the US in the friendly in 1994 in POS, the same US team ran over Jamaica 3-0 in Kingston a few days later and Trinis didnt pay much mind as we still considered ourselves a class above them then.
Jamaica slowly put their program in order and history records that they did not lose another game in Kingston for almost 7 years and over 50 internationals.

Point is, of course there is something to play for. At lowpoints, you have to create those goals and objectives to keep you going.
The objective of todays game should be silently to embarrass Guyana and send a message to the rest of the Caribbean. Thats how Champions secretly think.

Scounting for talent

As part of the Ministry's plans for football, Roberts also announced that a national consultation on football will be held on November 28 at the Cascadia Hotel from 9 a.m.

"Anybody who has ideas on the way forward for football in Trinidad and Tobago will be invited to present their ideas," Roberts said.

He urged those interested to send their written proposals to the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, c/o Natasha Nunez, communication specialist, so that briefs will be received before the consultation.

The Minister said participants at the consultation will also be given five minutes to speak at the event.

The Ministry of Sport will then collate the proposals and put forward recommendations to the relevant football agencies.

What we should do is have a thread just to collate people raw ideas on this then have a local rep/reps be the messengers at the conference.
This is the exact thing when men like Flex and Feliziano et al was putting together the framework for the supporters club in 2006 was making provisions for. We complain they dont want to hear the wisdom in this forum, this is the chance to at least get some air-time.
It sound like before you get your 5 mins in the sun, you hadda submit your proposals in writing to Nunes before hand.
Can a moderator start the pinned thread?

Palos - lemme play devils advocate here about your statement that thw world cup is not the be all and end all of football.
You mentioned having a sustainable program is the priority and everything else will fall into place.

In concacaf, this is not proven outside of the top 3 teams.
Panama is a classic example - they have qualified for 4 U-20 World Cups since 2003 and also the last U17 tournament. Yet for some reason they always come up short in qualifying. And for some strange reason, they do pretty well at the Gold Cups. Go figure. Canada to a lesser degree, they have an excellent developmental program, but that cannot be transitioned into senior mens WCQ...
The point is having a good sustainable program is an excellent idea, IN THEORY, but doesnt necessarily mean you will be successful.
If you were to ask the average football supporter in the world today, more people will know about Trinidad and Tobago rather than Canada or Panama as a football country. We also have more players who have stood out at club level.
I believe the reason we seem to be consistently competitive (at least pre - 2008) is because we produce exceptional players. That has appeared to dry up recently. When last we produce a Jerren Nixon or Arnold Dwarika?
So while I not bashing your idea of sustainable development, dont assume just having a program will mean automatic success. I think we definitely need something though to give us hope.

Breds, yuh going off or what?? how could you say that we derived any benefit from the WC experience, when it's obviously clear that we didn't! how many tourneys did we win, how many gold cups did we play, how many second round appearances did we have? so tell me how did it benefit us when we couldn't even bag ah digicel cup??!!

same with jamaica, since they've been to france they were never the same, and the record shows, they never been to the hex since 2001 and they missed out on the caribbean cup back to back, and even been knocked out by SVG on one occasion.

and it got worst for them, they even broke the bank to bring in bora who had no answers to the problem, kinda like us and pfister. finally they got rid of boxil and brought in burrell who started ah slow and stead climb out of the rot. and it's only now JA got back into ah rythem that have them competitive well again.

well we all know T&T story, so no need to reiterate. so JA went down and we went down right after a WC, and i believe it's bc....... IMO WC are for countries who have their act together, not some financially strapped federation who can't even afford to pay their players or compete in their own regional tourneys.

after T&T and JA came back from that WC they dropped their guards considerably, maybe it's bc they thought that they made it and were unbeatable and no longer needed to work @ it any more, @ least that's what i saw with jack warner.

he took us to a world cup, not bc he wanted to lift the standard of T&T football, but rather only to have the honor of reaching ah WC, and that was our only ambition, and he broke the bank to make it happen!

tuh tell yuh the truth, i would rather have seen us go to the gold cups that we missed out on and did really well, rather than ah meaningless WC appearance.

i'm ah firm believer in continuum! spend your money, bring in ah good coach for the long haul, form ah bond with ah core of players learn ah good system well, while bleeding new blood into the fray. the USMNT is ah perfect example. they had two coaches in 13 yrs learning ah system they could play with their eyes closed.

only recently they just fired ah great coach in order to hire ah better one that could take then further, love them or hate them, they are master of progress, they don't look back, instead they are always looking ahead, pumping money into sports for it's development. and their main focus is not only the WC, but to be the best they can be in the region and beyond, and that should be our focus. BTW did you see what spalk said to night on the news, well if yuh didn't i'll tell yuh, NO MO FACKIN MONEY FOR THE MEN SENIOR NATIONAL TEAM!!!!

only bc we failed to adavance to the next round of WCQ, so yuh know when we will see money fuh football again, since that's our only source of income ? 2015 when it's time for road to russia.  good luck allyuh bc i have no plans of sticking around these mad ppl no mo.

Good post bred, agree with most except your view that playing in Gold Cups better than World Cups.
Lets all be truly honest here and realise our potential.
Trinidad should be winning the majority of Caribbean Cups it enters.
We should be playing in EVERY SINGLE GOLD CUP Tournament, with a minimum of making it out the group stages.
We should be in EVERY SINGLE HEXAGONAL GROUP.
We should be consistently be challenging the top 4 for a spot in the WC.
Whether we qualify routinely for every world cup, thats up to the fotball Gods, because we  also have to accept that other countries go through cycles too.

We have a very small population, limited infrastructure and limited national passion for the game.
There are at least 8 countries in CONCACAF who have more passion for football than us IN GENERAL:
USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Jamaica.
Their fans cry when they lose, we just feel sad and move on.
You can bet they have a better strategy than us, we just lucky cause we produce very talented players every 4 campaigns starting back in 1974.
Living in Ja teach me something - heart and passion goes a long way. Because of my experiences, I can say unreservedly that T&T has much more talented and gifted footballers than Jamaica, we view the game as a beautiful thing that should be played in a certain way, but what Jamaica has is heart and passion. They will never back down in a tackle, even the star player is a warrior first, then a silky-smooth player after. And it shows whenever we play them. So I understand exactly what went on in Guyana last Friday.

The only thing we can do now is look forward.
At least Anil have a plan ( I know Socapro will get vex), but a plan is a plan, whether it is shit or not, it gives us a starting point.
We must aim to win the caribbean cup next year.

As I mentioned before, we need to win (and we will, cause the game doesnt mean anything) to make sure and finish above Bermuda, who can make 10pts.
We don't know the format for seeding teams for the next campaign, so we need to finish strong.
Also, finishing second just in case Guyana get in some problems and have to pull out/banned.

We dont deserve that though.

Teams we have now lost to in the last 12 months:

Cuba
Grenada
Bermuda
Guyana

The consolation is that we all know we were not making it out a group with Mexico and Costa Rica based on current form. You cant beat Bermuda or Guyana, how you expect to be competitive vs Guatemala, far less the 2 big guns. That group next year woulda be more hoping for a miracle than anything else.

We still not at rock bottom - there is still a chance we do not actually qualify for a caribbean finals tournament. Lets hope the next one is hosted by T&T.

I doh care who call me waggonist... I didn't watch, listen or follow thread posts/live updates of either the Bermuda games or this one.  Simply put, I knew better than to get emotionally invested in this Brazil campaign... not interested.  That said, I real surprised... and disappointed at this outcome. Even doh I tune out TnT football in dis rounds I still disappointed because my support or not, we should NEVER be in this situation... never!

This is unacceptable, and precisely the wake up call both diehards and casual football fans in TnT need, to realize that we really need to clean house, break it down and start over from scratch.

 :beermug:
Share your sentiments exactly.
this is a tragedy of unprecedented proportions, perhaps even more of a shocker and heartbreak since Ja beat us for the 1994 prelim qualifiers..
Total disgrace, that starts with the fans of T&T football who dont go and support club football and the Warriors when they play, to the business community to the TTFF to the coach to the players to the captain last night. Unfair to rest all blame on one person.
Total overhaul needed. Nothing can progress until we settle on a new TTFF, whose job it is to set strategy, policy and philosophy for our football programme.
The Gold Cup qualifiers next year becomes our priority now and a MUST to achieve.
Nothing coincidental with the advent of a blacklist due to greed and politics, non qualification for 2 consecutive gold cups and failure to get out the preliminary WC groups for the first time in 4 campaigns.
Our football is and has been in considerable decline since late 2006. And to make matters worse, we just dont seem to produce players of the calibre we used to. When last did we have a youngster come out like Jerren Nixon?

Good luck to the U-23's, interesting that Fuentes said we are in a good position to advance in that tourney!
Hope to see them on Tuesday.

agreed - U-23 team.
The other thing is that we need to look to finish with some sort of pride with a resounding win.
Bermuda can end up with more points than us, that must never happen.
You never know how seeding will be decided for the 2018 qualifiers, seems like it changes every cycle.
Also, we need to win for the unlikely chance that Guyana will run into administrative problems - teams in the region have been known to pull out competitions because of finances/politics etc. Need to finish strong and solidify second spot.

General Discussion / Re: Limited State of Emergency....
« on: November 11, 2011, 02:09:56 PM »
Ahh, finally a post that looks at the issue objectively!
Try to address your very valid questions.

I believe history will record the SOE and curfew as one of the greatest acts of desperation ever carried out by a T&T government. They are only safe because the opposition is so poor. I agree. Your post here make more sense than Rowley et al in the last 2 months. I heard Herbert Volney speaking this morning. His answer to every question was to blame the PNM for politicising everything. He then continued and blamed the PNM for whatever topic was dicussed: I Don't pay Volney too much mind, he represents everything that is wrong with T&T politics

The new DNA act? PNM only objecting for the sake of objecting. None of them are legally trained. It takes months of work by the best legal minds to construct a bill that works. Agreed.

The Anti Gang laws? The PP gave respect to PNM by including their clauses. Before that, it was perfect. It only didn't work because the police didn't understand it. The ultimate responsibility lies with the lawmakers aka politicians. This is the biggest embarassment I have seen since maybe when the last administration say that the eye in the sky was not really functioning, it was just being used like a scarecrow on the promenade. Blams has to be shared with the Govt/legal dept in the police dept and the investigators who build these cases. The rank and file Police Force not really at fault, they get their orders on who to pickup when. The crime problem was allowed to spiral under PNM. Partly true, but I honestly believe no other party would have made a significant difference. This is also a global phenomenon in developing countries over the last 10-15 years tied to many many different causes. The PNM must be complimented for some measures, no matter what effect it eventually had - the Blimp, the 360 degree radar, the OPV vessels, the anti-kidnapping laws and external help in arresting the problem in 2008 (FBI namely and the Balo Maharaj case which changed the game), community police initiatives, etc etc. They did quite a bit, but it proved not to be enough, so Volney not being fair here. Maybe he just remembers the disaster that was the Govt negotiating with the community leaders strategy?

The $60 million NEC fraud disclosed this week? Thats not my department...its the Finance Minister. If there were loopholes in procedures under the PNMs watch, we haven't had time to deal with it yet.

The thing is this. The govt have still refused to divulge the reason for the SOE that would make 1990 look like a tea party. Why the panic? Didn't they do this with the drug intel about the big seizure to an extent?? Obviously for security reasons you cant get into too much of that.

Why did no one from the govt take time to work with the protective services to explain the boundaries in which they could operate within.
I am very sure this was done to painstaking measures with the relevant legal representation. This is not the problem of the SoE, except for the argument about being in your yard vs being in the road.

Why wasn't the Santa Rosa compound prepared in advance? Very good point. But then you could argue a case for timely intervention. But still good point.

Why did the govt call the SOE when Gibbs was out of the country? Very good point again. This I think was not done right. I dont agree with the criticism with the PM leaving the country during the SoE, but I agree that the commish should have been there when this was announced.

Why didn't govt request help from other countries to ensure the big fish were caught? Good point. But one has to ask, what was the purpose of the SoE? Was it to arrest an imminent threat or to catch the big fish? Obviously you want to do both, but a lot of the talk about big fish only came about when the politics started about the police herding up young black kids like cattle. Big fish in T&T are notoriously rare - dont you all know this??? Manning once said he knew of one - his frist name was MR and his last name was BIG. Still couldn't reel him in then....

Why did the govt not request to borrow additional equipment such as choppers equipped with infra red scopes, additional drug locating equipment, mobile phone and email interception equipment? Good point again.

I have no problem with the curfew or SOE if it was conducted properly and the real criminal rings were smashed. However, I do have a problem with being lied to and fed a bucket load of govt propaganda.

This was nothing more than political kneejerking. Maybe if the 236 arrested under the Anti Gang legislation were tried and imprisoned, we could have supported it. But all I see is a lot of people who had outstanding warrants being re arrested, a load of rusty old guns are off the streets and we found a diesel scam. So here is the big disconnect - the SoE and the Anti-Gang legislation recently passed are 2 separate things, you dont need a SoE to arrest people for gangs. Just because they messed up royally on the latter means the former was a total waste of time. Use other arguments like above to do that.

This is not a worthwhile return for removing peoples rights. Depends on who you ask. I suspect the wildly popular Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Ho Chi Minh will disagree with you on that...

And if the panic is over, why can't unions or political parties meet? There is absoloutely no need to deny them their rights...if fact, they should have been issued licences so they could meet inside the curfew. Agreed

But its all ok, coz now we have parang and big business can make their profits. Who wants to bet that curfew returns in March? I will take that bet! The curfew has outlived its usefullness. I agreed with it when it was implemented, but it began to see diminishing returns.

Pro, truetrini, Brownsugar, Bakes - I respect allyuh opinions, I know I does talk shit when I ready, at the end of the day I just want Trinidad to be safer than what we now come to expect as the norm. Whether the SoE will be a success in the long term, we just hadda wait and see. Kinda like with hangings in 1998 - When Dole and the crew was hanged, practically no murders, or maybe just a handful for a whole month in June (Kamla was lying when she said last month was lowest in 20 years), but in the long run, murders increased the year after and continued to do so almost consistently for the next 10 years. Maybe they should have kept hangings going?? I suspect that after the initial shock to the population, murders would have have began to increase slowly again if they had continued to do so...But same thing with this SoE - for 2 and 1/2 months a dramatic reduction in crime, so if u use that metric, they had some success. All we can do now and see what happens in the future as Omar say....

Just my opinion
Shabbaz have some talent at coaching/mgt level, he has obviously helped Guyana.
The man is a professional, just like Sven Goran Errikson, Fabio Capello, Carl Brown, Bertille St Clair, Bob Bradley, Steve Sampson, Maturana, Beenhakker .......you get my point.
Its no fault of his the schedule has T&T playing Guyana, the man is a professional only trying to do his best. What u want him do? Roll up and say he sitting out these games?

On the other hand, if you were to ask me to comment on the fact that this murderer mercenary is still walking the streets a free man today after what he did in 1990 because of a legal technicality, then thats a whole different story. Only in Trinidad yes.

Wonderful piece Flex!

I always thought in the 1990 WCQ we actually won 4-0 at home and 1-0 away..
I remember that from a Italia 90 WC book I got during the tournament in Italy as it was the Strike Squad first hurdle...
Maybe a 4-0 tonight again in GT, 23 years later!

the entire exercise has been an abject failure.

The police could have made the same arrests without infringing on civil rights....The SoE continues by the way!

What the government did was make a pappyshow out of crime fighting.  They had no idea what to do about the crime, despite their incessant cries of we go solve this issue within 120 days of taking office!  They had no clue and so resorted to a tool that the constitution had in place to deal with dire issues of national security.

To this day the threat continues says Minister Sandy...what a joke!

So whats your criteria used to measure success or failure??
Even if you discount the drop in crime over the period, and accept that the SOE really only gave a boost in the arm of the protective services to get more proactive and actually do police work and make arrests, then I consider that somewhat of a success.
The tragedy is that we have to settle for statements like that and we are only spurred into action at these frantic times. Sounds a lot like the T&T football team huh.

PNM, UNC, PP, NJAC - it dont matter who in power, the police service will not just wake up one day and decide to do their jobs at a better level. So lets stop politicizing this whole thing. At the end of the day the Govt in power took a drastic action to arrest crime and violence. They must be commended for at least thinking and implementing something. What level of success it brought is another topic to debate, there are obviously pros and cons. But they DID TRY SOMETHING, and if they didnt, people woulda been saying that they no better than the previous administration. If you use the argument that they politicizing this crime fighting effort, then any thing any party ever do for the good of the nation can be put into that same category, so is best whoever in power just say "fack allyuh - lewwe just coast along every day and hope for the best?"

I know the vast majority of the population and posters here have their political allegiances, and that biases opinions. Maybe its just me as I have been trained to think analytically, wholistically and for myself that I ALWAYS look for all sides of an issue....But I for one commend the Govt in power for at least trying something. When the previous administration brought in the blimps, set up the radars and bought the OPV vessels and send the coastguard men to Portsmouth to train, I commended them on that.
When they set up SAUTT and brought in the experts from the developed countries, I commended them on that. When the UNC was in power and set up the E-999 and bought all them vehicles I commended them on that. When the UNC hanged the 10 murders under their watch I commended them on that.
But:
When the PNM decided to meet with the community leaders I lambasted them on that. When the UNC didn't support the PNM's last set of crime bills in Parliament, I lambasted them on that. When the PP decided to pull the plug on the OPV project I cuss whole day.

I commend effort.
I do not condone indifference, opposition just for politics rather than a common good, or cynicism just for cynicism's sake with no alternative suggestions that ARE REALISTIC AT THE TIME.

Just imagine you have a  hypothetical country somewhere in the world where they do a  poll and the overwhelming topic of concern is the crime and violence that destroying that country. Then the Govt go out and try something and the general population get vex with them.
Just for a minute, think about what an outsider looking in at that country will think of the mental capacity of the citizens of that country.

There is a theory going around that the Govt are hoping that Xmas and carnival will distract the T&T public from putting heavy pressure on the govt once the SOE ends.
When you notice how the big names are no longer anywhere to be seen, you can see the way they hope people just won't bother to ask questions. Remember the days when the A.G. and Sandy were on tv every day? How do they spend their days now? Why aren't they being questioned?

If that report is to believed, out of 236 charged under the anti gang legislation, there is a 100% failure rate!
How much money has this farce cost the taxpayers?
[/quote
I don't think the entire thing was a failure. I believe Gibbs when they say they received intelligence from the detainees. I can't believe that those fellas wouldn't have been interrogated by the police. What that intelligence translates into is another matter. The number of releases are very discouraging.

Agree with u, to me that was the one big disappointing thing about the SOE and and the anti-gang bill.

But at the end of the day, I was glad the SOE and curfew was implemented for a time, I believe it was stopped at the right time as it had reached diminshing returns (at least public communication).
But I agree with the PM, even if we saved one human life from it, you can argue that i was a success, the fact that murders were cut down by a third is a good thing. Lots of contraband was found but my other disappointment is that no higher profile criminals were caught.

The way I see it, the Govt make an attempt to do something to arrest the biggest problem in our country - crime and violence.
Lots of people lambast the effort, thats their right. in this country, like any other, you will have opposition to anything you do - damn if u do and damned if you dont.  At the end of the day these decisions are made by people trained in this sort of thing and privy to information that we have no idea even exists (the PM advisers).
Eagerly looking to see how the crime stats go moving into Xmas and Carnival, where traditionally its the highest for the year.

I also wonder - all these people they detain - its standard police procedure to fingerprint arrested people, the police in theory will now have a much more complete database of potential criminals, because lets face it, the majority of the people they detain (whether they were subsequently freed on technicalities or not) are people involved in some sort of illegal activity...

As we on the crime fighting issue, 2 other things I hope they sort out quickly - the current DNA bill before parliament and also the endless network of video surveillance across the nation that was implemented for the CHOGUM.

Eh trini, lemme tell yuh something. i livin in the real world, and in this world no one has ah monopoly on success save the diligent. and for the past five yrs T&T football was nothing short of abysmal!

if our federation was doing right by the football we would've never been in this position in the first place. first off, latapy would've never made it pass the hex, and had the federation hired this coach soon after our failure to reach south africa,

then my predictions would be that we would've been higher up in the fifa rankings, we more than likely would've been in the gold cup, we proabaly would've done better than our caribbean counterparts, and instead of cuba, we would've been the ones who would've been sitting this one out with honduras (an easier group if yuh ask me) rather than contending with the guyanas and the bemudas and the barbado's!

as of ah few yrs ago i had the same confidence as you, but grenada taught me a valuable lession. if yuh fail to prepare then prepare to fail, and so far, i did not see any great amount of preparation gone into this round of qualification, only if yuh want tuh consider ah fete match against india any sort of preparation.

i wish us all the best and i keepin my fingers crossed, but i would not be surprised if we don't get the desired results, and tuh tell yuh the truth these old men needs to be taught a lession, it's only my selfish desire that have me hoping for ah good result, but the fact is, we really don't deserve it!

progress comes with ah price, it's called hard work and dedication, and this campaign started off lazy and lethargic with very little hard work and dedication on the path of the federation.

BTW boss, i does mek real noise @ ah football game, and i don't route for no star boy team, seen backham before and i wasn't impressed, remember i live 30 mins from harrison NJ, and 20 mins east rutherford.    all the same,   good luck young warriors, hope allyuh live up tuh allyuh name on friday and twice on tuesday.                                     positive.

I hear yuh boss, I just being swayed in the opposite direction of raw patriotism.
I still believe, underprepared or not, Guyana aint ready for us over 2 legs, the only pressure is that we cant afford to lose the first.
That we will win the second is almost a given, as much as givens come in football.

But dont comeand say costa rica is a shit side and hype up guyana in the same breath, just take a look at who costa rica playing friendlies against this year and some of their results. JUST TO KINDLY REMIND YOU, WE HAVE ONLY BEATEN COSTA RICA ONCE AT SENIOR LEVEL, I will be surprised if at all for any other level (the over time golden goal that Trotman score in the gold cup).
Based on our current situation, we will be lucky to finish 3rd in the semi final round, thats my reality.

Guyana will be toast. Have some faith

How come guyanese baller eh tune in yet boy?? i would like tuh hear from him and his prospective on the up coming game, how he rate his team and their chances.             guyanese baller fall in nah bro.

Maybe they waiting until they kick we ass before celebrating unlike T&T fans and some forumites we like to count we chickens before they hatch but go ahead with that immature bullshit...

Blessings!

I didn't just come, I was asked by the forumite to rate my team and their chances, so I did. Its a forum for comments so I made mine. You made yours. No sweat I can take the criticism, like someone said above its a war but naturally I have to big up my team like you would do yours. Fair play to both of us. Trinidad has done a lot for Guyana's football so we could 'gun talk' now but will still be friends after the games.

If that funny bit is all you can find useful to quote from what I said then fair play to you but I was making the point that the goalkeeper was excellent shotstopper and good with his feet (used to be a forward) and was trying to give descriptions (from int players that would be familiar to everyone) about the style of play of the young mid-field players that TT would never have seen before. They may not play at all but at least you know about them now. We like our funny nicknames in GT.

The rest of it ...well we just have to wait and see and then talk about after the match.

Respect and blessings!

Greetings guyanese baller, thanx fuh the update, it was well received. doh mind some of these fellas with they nonsense nah bro, you have ah right tuh big up your team, bc so far they have been phenomenal, and i wont mind losing to guyana, it's about time some other regional teams step and represent the confederation.

tuh tell yuh the truth, it's the first time in WCQ that i'm not so sure if we will make it out the preliminary stage. we'll just have to wait and see, all i could say is "may the better team win".          positive.    :beermug:

Bossman there is nothing I could say to you nah, with comments like:
1) U dont mind losing to Guyana
2) Guyana has been phenomenal
3) Costa Rica is a shit side and aint have nutten doing these days.

You leave me and TI and we gramaxone, sometimes I wonder about some of allyuh.

Allyuh is the same men who go in the stadium and when a man boo the opposition allyuh tun up allyuh face or cheer louder for Beckham than the Socawarriors.

Didn't tune in earlier because I am travelling at the moment. I also don't want to say much now but having seen the last few matches played in Guyana, my only advice to forumites is to forget the past, to say that this is not the same Guyana team that you are accustomed to seeing Trinidad beat time and again. This team has a different swagger about them and the ability to match. Jackie Chan may not start (he did not start him the last match I say at home) but he will definitely have a role to play to open up Trinidad's defence if things are not going well. Its not so much about the players though, its also about the coaching - Jamal shoud be given a national award for what he has been doing. His match coaching is spot on brilliant. His substitute selections from the bench all make an impact every single game which is very very rare at this level so players are happy to come off the bench. His tactics and the way he gets them to play at a certain level and for each other is something that we have not witnessed before his arrival. Most Guyanese footballers cannot believe that he is not the TT national coach. He makes this team play out of their skin. Every player tries to make a big impact and its working. We are doing much better in attack than before. I am talking about players actually playing far better for the national team (even out of position) than they play for their club.

About the match. Well, man for man the TT players may be better and more experienced but I think the movement, pace and rhythmn of the Guyanese players will create some problems for Trinidad because they will not be accustomed to that kind of intensity from Guyana for 90+ minutes. That is what they have been doing best recently - playing their game for 90+ minutes.

I also think that Jamal will out-coach your coach not only because he is motivated to but because he now has the weapons to do so now. Most of the weapons will be 'secret-weapons' to a TT team. He now has lots of pacy players and a team that can counter-attack with real deadly pace and midfielders who can really join the attack score. We have a few players that Trinidad has certainly never seen - a small-sized player in the midfield he can use (not as good as your Latapy but at least its the best closest thing for us) whose name is "Zorro" though he is not the best player. He also has a good strong young 20 yr old defensive midfielder who can genuinely keep the ball and sit in front of the back four if he needs him to. This guy also has excellent distribution like 'Viera' and is just like a bigger version of 'Makalele' ( you know what I mean, our version).  He also has two of the best local based strikers yet to join the team and if they make themselves available he will have many more weapons up front. Most of all I am confident that we have the best goalkeeper we can find at the moment who is excellent in goal and also very good with his feet (this is a goalkeeper who won the most recent half-time at a recent 'juggling'/keep-up competition by juggling more than 1000 and had to be stopped because he was already the clear winner).

I don't expect a 0-0 draw because I think both teams are not very very strong at the back and can do better defensively. Trinidad has good players and the Guyanese players know that but overall I am confident that whatever Trinidad scores, this Guyana team can out-score them. I hope that they will do that on the day.

My advice is that you should go to Guyana for the game. Guyanese are very hospitable to Trinidadians.
There is a lot of accommodation in Guyana (remember we hosted the cricket world cup) -  for a start just go to these sites:

hotels - http://guyana-tourism.com/blog/?page_id=30
guest houses - http://guyana-tourism.com/blog/?page_id=62
resorts - http://guyana-tourism.com/blog/?page_id=35

For those accustomed to travelling, you will also realise that food in Guyana is widely available and ridiculously cheap.

I hope that we have a good ref who lets the game flow. Don't blink. I will speak more after the game.

Respect and blessings!
GB

A man come here and telling us to be worried about Guyana rhythm and tempo? About the Guyana "Vieira" or  Guyana "Makalele"? About a goalkeeper who could raise the ball 1000 times in a half time competition  :rotfl:

And I was just scouting our next group opponents Costa Rica - now when a Costa Rican poster could come on this board and tell me that for 2011 they have played Brazil, Argentina (twice), Nigeria and gearing up for Spain next week, then I will give that man and his team utmost respect.

Guyana, oh please.

This Guyana team is just an artifact of the draw and schedules, if this was a properly set group with all teams playing each other in the first 3 games, the Guyana hype would have been dead long time.

T&T 2-1 on Friday then 3-0 in the return, and right now in these early group stages, we only operating at ~40% efficiency...

I respect the Guyanese poster for his tone and respect for T&T while bigging up his own team (RF could take a page out his book) - very classy, but I am sorry sir, this is not cricket....

nice work Flex.

What about the Signal Hill rastaman doing somersaults on the track after they beat Benedicts  :rotfl:

Some of the greatest goals  have seen from T&T players in addition to those above:
Latapy hattrick vs Norway
Terry ST Louis goal in the shell cup final vs Cayman
Nixon solo goal vs Barbados  in Barbados - think it was a shell final there too.
I wonder if any of that on the other forum with clips..

agree to an extent with ya on dat, but then again thats an opinion right?
Remember when Beenhakker has Latapy and Yorke on the field and may was cussing.
Sometime having a player like that on the field is like having an extension of the coach out there, once the player can play to a particular standard. Just having him in Training in invaluable to youger strikers. He has playerd more football than anyone else on the team, his knowledge is key. These are also very stressful games, SJ is a man who will bring that much needed calm to the team on the field in hostile territory.
Sometimes its immeasurable to have a talisman like that on your team, he inspires others, makes them lift their game.

I agree SJ should not be an automatic starter every  game anymore, but he has a role to play on this effort.
I also agree with other posters that him and KJ together have its drawbacks in the absence of quality service from the wings.
I wonder how Kevon Carter is coming along these days...
