True Rodney, but he is perhaps the best we have right now, well at least tried and tested.
We need a striker to ketch fire if we are to get to Germany.
I see Stern more likley to do that than Jones, Sealy, Scotland.

We play 3 away games so far and have not gotten anything from it.
The road to Germany is making a loop thru central america before it passes back thru T&T.

To be a WC team, u must be able to get points on the road, esp Central America.

CR playing very well at the moment, be we have a big new weapon, CONFIDENCE.

Getting a point in CR will be phenomenal, we have never done that well before.

But more importantly, a point will also restrict CR to 1 pt as well, and we need to look at the 3rd place as well.

CR is also a very very different team to the stuttering one that started the campaign as well...
New coach too if I am not mistaken.

What you all think Simoes thinking if he see/read about the game yesterday, with particular reference to his 2 favourite players?

It simple.
Draw vs CR on Wed
Beat Panama in panama
Beat Mex last.

This will be good for 3rd spot.

Doing it is another story, but not impossible.

Boy palos, I pulling a Soca-crapo disappearing act.
Serious though, last 3 monts I was not in the US, where I have much more time to roam the boards and post. Yuh know how it is when u in foreign, yuh cling to the boards more for nostalgia.
Was doing some travelling around the place too, Alberta, Toronto, Puerto Rico, Jamaica for a month and Trini for a month.
Back in the US semi permanently now, so I will be back to regular scheduled programming.

Link me some of the pics for the US game in CT nah...

We need minimum 6 pts, or hope Guat self destruct.
Still on our hands, I dont want that 4th place, that will give me nervour breakdown.
Guat has 2 hard games, US and MEX.
They potentially could get 4 pts again (draw US at home and maybe beat CR, MAYBE in their last game, and obvioulsly lose in mexico.)
I think Guat will have a hard time even at home vs an already qualified USA.
The possibilities are endless.
That makes it so exciting.
So Guat get 4 pts, if we get 6 we should be at least good for 4th.
CR should be in our cross hairs too for 3rd spot. We 5th now, but CR have difficult games too, including a home game vs the usually solid US and an away game to Guatemala, who will be desperate.
3rd is not beyond us if we can avoid defeat on Wednesday. That is the Key.

if the man cuss we so what?
Steups.
We real cuss him too, is a trini thing.

Knowing stern John from all them interviews he has done over the years, he is one of the most committed players to his country.
He is usually the first and only man giving interviews to Shaun as well.
I know he reads these boards.
All the talk he getting over the last year, fridge, hamburgers, shittong etc etc, the man was in an emotional zone dread.
Scoring them goals must have been like an explosion for him.
Understand it from his point.
I woulda do the same thing.
Stern, I willing to take your cussing for the next 3 games if it means you could score some goals for us in them games too yes.
As a goalscorer, Stern is unprecedented in T&T's history, maybe even CONCACAF.
His style of play may not be the most attractive, but if he putting the ball in the net, the man wukking.
Stern John is back.
PS - Whey allyuh get that rumour he cus the fans? Memba his goal vs Panama when he run and put he hand on he lips to the crowd. Same kinda thing now, I sure it was jus in the moment of the 2 goals and he exploding emotionally.
Allyuh ever score a goal for allyuh school for Intercol, club football, country etc etc?
Having done the first case, I could say it is a hell of a feeling, sometimes undescribeable

HAS GIVEN US 3 VERY VALUABLE POINTS, BUT JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, IT HAS GIVEN US AND THE WARRIORS BELIEF IN THEM AGAIN.

WHAT A BOOST IN THE ARM FOR BEENHAKKER AND HIS TROOPS.

A DRAW WITH CR AND PANAMA WILL BE PERFECT FOR US I FEEL.

Football / Re: DROP STERN JOHN NOW!!!!

Lets revel in the moment, its been a long while since we've had something big to cheer.
I agree with Sub, to an extent.
Stern is just a scorer, nothing else,so when he doesnt score, he is a waste. He was on a serious drought. Thes ethings happen, it was just it was in the middle of our campaign.
But the thing is with him, we is a streak player.
His confidence is his main weapon.
He must be on top the world.
At the end of the day, he is a Trini jus like all of us, the only difference is that he is a a supporter who actually plays for the team.
Just to be ina  spot to put the ball in a net takes a skill that precious few in world have.
Stern has that.
Up to 2 games ago, I was one of his biggest defenders, just like how I defended BSC. Then I started to question his present contribution and wonder if I was blinded by his phenomenal scoring past.
Truth be told, a healthy Stern John must always have a place in a TT team, whether he start or used as a sub. I really dont mind benching him, but he has delivered for us in the past when we no one else could.
I think he pretty much guaranteed his starting spot for the remainder of the campaign.
But I see Sub's point.
Latas influence today showed us something about stern john and service.

We had better keep focus for Wed, this is now a very very big game for us.

In the meantime, LETS REVEL IN TT's VICTORY EVERYONE!
No bitterness.
Wow, what deja vu from 89.
I hope stern starting another streak!

I remember after Jamerson score the bullet in the 89th minute, the army man posted on the side of the pitch run him down in celebration yes.

Guatemala brings nice memories to me in WCQ.

I really hope u right and it pull thru.
I jus have this memore in my head from 2001 when we was suppose to steamroll honduras, and we had rela momentum going into the game, with Yorke being recalled from suspension from Simoes just for the game and all of T&T was in joy at his return., the man say his boots would do the talking etc etc.
Needless to say, we all knew what happened.

Put it this waym if we cant beat Guatemala on saturday, a direct rival for the 3rd or 4th spot, we aint going anywhere.
And we should not be griping, cause Guat will jus prove they are better than us now and deserve that spot.
I also believe that we should go for goals, I have a feeling even if we win, we could end up level on points with guat, and the head to head goes into effect.
We in real trouble from that 5-1 we get.

Football / Dont mean to sound negative
« on: August 31, 2005, 08:38:36 AM »
but I dont understand all this hyoe around Latas coming back.
I personally dont like the idea, it is not progress on our part.
If we relying on men who have been trying to take us to the promised land 16 years ago (this is their 5th campaign), we really worse than we think.
It is plain we have no idea what we doing, and we not producing the players f the calibre we once did.
Its not the coach fault, its just down to the 1.2 million Trinis, we just not as good as we were before.
Our performances on the field attest to this. We barely make 3-4 passes at any one time, and we have become so predictably slow and direct, it is almost comical.
We could have had Wegner, Ferguson or Mourinho, it would not matter that much.
All we can hope is that Beenhakker can use his astuteness and tactically defeat Guatemala and CR on the day.
The positive thing for us is that you dont have to be better than a particular team to beat them.
I am being brutally honest, but we are the worst team in the Hex, maybe just behind Panama.
But as a Trini, I am supporting 110% ! And we could do it. But I dont think Latas is some kinda magic wand that will just show up and make things better.
A little bad play from Guat, a nice strong crowd with vibes, a solid display from our players, WITH DISCIPLINE and a lill luck, and we will win on Saturday, like how we did vs Panama.
Back to Latas, if I was coach, I woulda kindly decline his offer. I wonder is Warner consult Beenhakker before he ask Latas? WOnder what Beenhakker thinks of the whole scenario.
I am Latas number 1 supporter, he is the best and most skilful midfielder to come out of CONCACAF in perhaps 15-20 years, with very few challengers for that role.
When he is on song, he is pure class and magic, capable of almost Michael Jordan like displays or single handedly changing games.
But the man retire on bad grounds, now is 37, and barely plays a full 90.
At his best, he could not engineer TT to the WC, is he better than his best right now? I doubt that strongly.
I woulda play him for the last 30mins, if it was mandatory to play him (Warner factor), especially if we tied or down (which we are 99% of the time)....
I just hoping and praying that Latas make me eat my words, and come out like Roger Milla on the day.
Without Latapy, I feel we could still take care of Guatemala on Saturday.
Latas and Yorke on our team still?? Nah, We real clutching at straws yes.
Are we that bad?

Football / U all making one big mistake
« on: August 18, 2005, 01:06:06 PM »
we all saying based on how we play in the second half, WE WILL QUALIFY.
This alone wont get us to Germany.
Playing with 110% heart alone wont get us to Germany.
Sad but true.
didnt we play decent vs USA on Ash Wed?
Didnt we play decent vs CR at home?
Didnt we play decent vs Mex in Mexico?
Didnt we play with heart vs the US last night?

Them 4 games we play decent and with heart, we only get 1 point.
1 point in 4 games.
At this level, if u cant do better than that, we dont deserve to make it.
Playing decent and with heart is all nice and good, but u also have to play with some luck, play with some serious tactical acuteness, some serious planning and execution etc etc, serious goal scoring form.......
I would love for us to go germany, but we need to turn these displays into hardcore points.
If we cant, it doesnt make any sense.
WCQ final round is the be all and end all.
Nothing else matter but points.

Right now, I cant see us getting wins on the road vs CR and Panama, maybe draws yes, but not 6 points.
We need 9 points from the remaining 4 games. That translates into 2 must win home games ( and we done know how TT perform when we play in do or die games), plus a win in either Pan or CR.
We could do it of course, but we need more than just good displays and hard fight games.

And our main problem - we have no patience on d ball.
We always want to go direct to goal or out on the wing, long kick - BOOM, straight up.
When we settle, slow down and try something, we do better and hold the ball.
This boom kick thing is our achilles.
We need patience on d ball, every single pass Seaton make, he try extraordinary 40-50 yard pass like he name Zidane.
I am impressed with our improvement.
Better fitness
Better defense
Better cohesion

With carlos back, and must start Jones, we will be better and still have a shot at 3-4th place.
We need the odda games to draw too.

Patience is the key for us, and maybe a lill more fitness too, so we could support each other better and keep possession and make less unforced mistakes that give the ball away.

We play we heart out tonite.
I feel this is it for Stern though.

By us - NO
By top teams - OF COURSE.

From what we see in the gold cup, no way whatsoever, especially in the US.

We just cannot run with them, trap like them, pressure as a team like them and simply keep up with them for 90 mins.
Plus they have an unnatural knack for scoring lucky goals.
If we get a point vs them next month, it will be like a victory.
They are number 6 in the world and we playing in their yard.
Panama on d odda hand, i still feel we good for a next 3 pts

Sherwood in my opinion was better even than Dwight Yorke at a comparative age (although Sherwood was older, they were contemporaries).  After he broke his leg, he was never the same player.....actually, he was a shadow of himself.

U hadda be kidding Palos . He was good and a lill magical too, perhaps the young latas, but yorke was in a class by himself on that team that used to rack up cricket like scores vs caribbean opposition in 1990.
