That was a good year for T&T....

10/03/1985 Canada 1 v 2 Trinidad/Tobago Fr.
11/11/1984 Mexico 0 v 2 Trinidad/Tobago  Fr.
16/11/1983 Sweden 0 v 5 Trinidad/Tobago Fr.
30/05/1982 Ireland 1 v 2 Trinidad/Tobago Fr.
21/03/1982 USA 1 v 2 Trinidad/Tobago Fr.

I cant remember the goal scorers though, sorry.

You and KND liming strong now and sharing that same bad weed Sam?

He has a full month to watch every single game the US play in the last 3 years and plan something to neutralise them.

That is what he will be working on for the next 4-5 weeks.

What do you guys think about that? Our whole group from the gold cup in the semi final now.  Do you think that we might have had the strongest group?

I dont see your point.
We came last in our group, the Gold Cup was a failure.
While it may serve to ease some of the pain of our departure that our group doing well, the fact remains that we could not do what was asked of us, especially in the last game.
That is the scary part.

What a day it will be if Ja could knock the mighty Americans out the GC in their own backyard.

The US isnt playing at their best, excellent opportunty to ride a wave now for Ja.

This is the last major ball for at least 3 years for Ja maybe, Its all or nothing now!

GOOD LUCK! KNOCK THEM OUT RF!

I praying for a result on Sat

Football / Fitness is the Key
« on: July 13, 2005, 07:49:40 AM »
That is my personal opinion, and maybe a couple selections.

Every single team in the gold cup has players who consistently run into space to provide support, a simple thing like this we dont do.
Stern only run to goal, ok he is a forward, and his job is to finish, but the rest of men dont give too much support either.
We always chasing the game, and when we get tired, we cyah even trap or have the heart to press and fight.
vs. Panama and Mex, we showed decent fitness, but now is season break and we players suffering. I remember the same thing happen vs Jamaica in POS in 2000 when we lost and man jus come back from holiday etc etc.
So with improved fitness, I feel we will do better, as Mexico and Panama games, and even CR to an extent showed.
The next thing is selection. I know the coach sees the players more than anyone does, and he picks based on merit, mainly what he sees in training. This immediately suggests that men like Cyd and them have real big hearts, and does run they liverstone out in practise. But in game situations at this level and pressure, practise and game is very different. Men here complain that CG et al aint no true warriors, what madness! Did it ever occur to anyone that they might just not be up to this level of ball?? Nothing wrong with that, not all of us cut out to be superstars.
Cyd Gray should be overlooked now, I saw him as a weak link in the team, and apparantly the other teams did too, thats why they attack on his side so much. They also exert very high pressure on him when he had the ball, forcing him to go back to Jack 95% of the times, he just dont have the vision and technique under pressure to bring the ball up.
Sancho is much better, but like he playing West Indian cricketer now and always injured.
At left back, I find Avery do well.
Birchall deserve to stay, he still young and will improve with more international experience and stop playing so naive.
Seaton pulling stones, should be put in with Gray on a B team or feeder or something.
Spann on my borderline, but he aint starting ahead of Dwight in the attacking middle position in front the white boy.
Theobald is a next one who lapsing big time too, like he never recover fully from his injury, I will put him in Spann bucket and monitor him good, but cant start in front Carlos.
Samuel - well, we dont have much options on the left wing, so I guess him. I woulda go all the pro league game and just look for a left winger, we must have one fella who we could groom. It is sorely needed.
Stern need to bench for a while, he not at his best, and for quite a while now.I would start Jones up front with Glen and see how they operate together from the start. Stern could be a sub if anything.
What happen to the strikey from NE stars, forget his name? (not nixon).
As for the keepers, Shaka, Ince or Jack, I ok, I prefer any of the first 2 still though, but Jack coming along.

If we address them 2 main issues sooner rather than later, we MIGHT be in line to give the US a decent run in August.
Fitness and player selection.
Playing time together is crap, most of them fellas playing eons together now, nuff games practise already.
Team tactics and scouting opponents is also critical, but i assuming leo is one of the best in the region.
I just hope he not getting interference from anyone presently....

Football / I notice a new trend starting
« on: July 13, 2005, 05:17:37 AM »
on the board.
Men starting to write off players with one bad performance.
Avery play good in my opinion in this tourney.
Theobald - same thing.
Seaton shitting bricks I agree, jus like Stern and Cyd.

I know we didnt get out the first round, but being realistic, we only have done this once before. In retrospect, we perform as the rest of CONCACAF expects us, ie average.
At least we do better than Cuba and Guatemala.

We have a few positives coming out, we actually defending a little better as a team, we have problems with transition play, too predictable up front, and no patience on the ball.

Dont write off men so fast, cause to be honest, we dont really have much options, and they try their hardest. When we try to give local players a chance, w struggle to beat caribbean teams.

As for the US underestimating us on AUg 17th, no such thing, we all know they dont operate so.

We need something of a minor miracle to get back some form, and we need a striker to step up and get the form of his life if we are to have a slight chance at 4th spot.
Lets not crucify the fellas, at least we in the mix still, at that is what matters.
I still see improvement from when we were under bertille.
Colombia is a  class team, Panama and Honduras are just behind CR as the best UNCAF nations.

Football / Re: There are some positives from the Miami experience
« on: July 12, 2005, 07:20:46 PM »
Positives:
1) We now have a safe back up keeper in Jack. I still prefer Shaka or Incey, but Jack won over some of my doubts. These 3 keepers we have decent, a class above the next in line in Durance
2) Dog and Giraffe really have a nice combo going
3) Avery play decent at the RB, he have to control his wits sometimes. With Sancho and Atiba, we should have decent wingback options
4) We now look like  a team willing ti shoot more (esp the first game evidence)
5) In Glenn and Jones, we have 2 nice attacking options especially off the bench
6) Spann playin decent

Negatives:
1) Bad team selection
2) Gray cyah cut it
3) We real unfit, especially as a team that does not like to possess the ball = trouble
4) Rahim cyah cut it.
5) Theobald have loads of potential, but like he turning Seaton now. Hope is temporary.
6) Samuel still borderline for me, tends to drift out the game for long periods. Should be tried again though
7) Scotland and Stern up front cyah cut it. Scotland should be rested, Stern benched. These things will make them more hungry. We have Jones, Glenn (although I prefer him as a sub), Mcfarlane, Yorke (although I prefer him in front Birchall in the middle too)

All in all, Colombia is the one true class team in the group. Is jus they get ketch offguard first 2 games and they inevitably came good in their last game.
We real disappointments was in the 2 previous games.
We so unfit it not funny.
If we cant beat Honduras or Panama on a neutral ground in a WCQ year, we dont deserve even 4th place.
Seeing the first 2 games, our play was simply atrocious.
I kinda glad we aint go through, cause we mighta get embarass in the quarters.
Plus i cyah bare to watch more of that crap, 3 full games of tata.
On the upside, Carlos and Yorke will bring back something to the team, but it sad if these players have such an influence, and nobody can step up.
Dog too - - - Jus like in Guatemala, when he not there, we does leak goal like a buss pipe. Plus he seems to be our most lethal attacking threat!
Sancho, Edwards and Yorke will help.
Lets just hope we start from now for Aug 17th.
From what I see so far, there is no way we conceeding less than 3 vs the US then.
We not up to WC level, and I still maintain, we not reaching Germany, we just too inconsistent.
Whatever happen to trying new players, using your imagination or creativity, takinga chance etc etc.
We have some good men in the PFL who can run, dribble and finish, some men who could actually play a left wing position....All they need is a lill chance and exposure.
If Dwight Yorke was now a schoolboy in T&T, there is no way he woulda come what he became.
Thats the difference with the coaches and philosophy then and the one now.

Losing now does not depress me that much, as palos say, we used to it.
This could have been a perfect dress rehersal for our last WCQ home game vs Mexico, a draw to go though vs a quality opponent, and as usual, we get licks and choke.

Dont worry about RF they have cheap Hotels everywhere including Fairfield County and plenety poor people down they too, They just have some rich ones as well.

Let me know how much you willing to spend and which direction you coming from and I can tell you about a decent Hotel.

They just open up a new Marriot down town hartford which might run you about a $125 a night. but it brand new

Of course there are poor people in Fiarfield county - I am by no means rich. Point I'm making is that I dont know much about Hartford.....thats like 100 miles from where I live.

Spoken like a true uptown man, the farther away the better eh.
BY NO MEANS RICH HUH?
Why dont u show KND and some of the posters some pics of yuh big rides that you post a while aback on the RBZ site.... ;D

Connecticut is a funny old state...I live in Fairfield county, where everything is very expensive. You'd do well to get a hotel room in these parts for less than $100 per night. I dont know of the situation up in Hartford (another county). KND can best advise.

Sound to me like yuh enjoying the uptown vibes RF, and poor KND to ketch "downtown"

Soldiers and police have the place blocked off, helicopter etc etc.
Interviewing national sec minister, police chief etc etc on the scene. PM jus release a statement.,

RF - In my opinion, Guatemals is not a big team as well.
Looking at history, we generally have beaten them many times more than they have beaten us. It is only the last debacle when we got hammered 5-1 in Guatemala that has us fuming.
But even in the last 2 gold cups, we have beaten them comfortably. Heck we even have beaten them in Guatemala in WCQ already.
South Africa - I agree, they are strong, last time we play them, we beat them 2-0 in POS, but then lost 2-1 in SA last year, so I would put them on ar about, maybe slightly higher than TT at the present time.
U are correct mexico are the real big team in the group, and also the tournament, but guess what, they have been playing a lot of football over the last 4 weeks, and may be somewhat tired...The more they play, maybe the more tired they get? I know they make some chamges for this tourney, resting some big name players, but I believe Ja can get a draw vs them on Wed.....
Ja real impressing me in this tourney...U will definitely qualify for the quarters (the competition is TT who have 2 pts and Canada or Cuba who still pointless and bad goal difference....
Strange to see Ja conceeding so many goals though, and even scoring so many as well...very -UN-JAMAICAN like, much more a trait like T&T if u ask me, its just we usually on the losing end of high scoring games....
The defence have to buck up....If it does, it could be a very strong Ja team.
I would love to see where and how TT stack up vs you guys now...

is that allyuh doh worry...we look shaky in some spurts and generally I was expecting to see better, but everything boil down to one thing....

MATCH FITNESS...Them fellas was real bun and real rusty, u could see it.

Nex game will be better.

I also so extatik to see T&T actually SHOOTING THE BALL NOW too, what a blinder from Birchall! LAWD, one of the best goal I ever see for a TT player, remind me of Angus goal vs canada a few years aback.
What about the bullet from Samuel?? PAPAYO! the goalie get frighten, that is what make him dive bad and readjust in the air....

Some bad things i saw though ( i guess everything fall back on the match fitness thaing again too)
1) we too slow and predictable in attack
2) we play back too much to the keeper when we could play it diagonal and maintain better possession..jack does jus boom kick it...WE NEED CONFIDENCE ON THE BALL AND MOE MOVEMENT.

All in al, a draw is a fair indication of the game.
sometimes Honduras play some real tata too, if we was on top we game, we coulda damage them.

But they are decent, they came in second in the UNCAF tourney, they draw with Ja and beat canada 2 days ago.
We hadda beat Panama on Sat.

Football / I remember we had a nice one in 89...
« on: June 11, 2005, 08:34:24 PM »
from corners....
while a man would set up like if he taking it (williams or faustin), a next man would then run short for it from the top corner of the penalty box, drawing a defender with him on the diagonal run toward the corner spot.
Then the man taking the corner would run up and play like he want to play it in short to the incoming man with the defender on he back.
Then the incoming TT player would stop half way between the 18 yard line and the corner spot and play like he telling the corner taker not to worry, to much pressure. He would stop running, then the corner taker would hesitate like if he have to readjust to take it long again.
While he doing this, the man who was running to collect it short would simply and casually turn to the byline and play like he starting to walk back to the penalty box, but now not back to the top corner of the box he came from, but rather toward a  near post position.
The marking defender naturally would relax and before yuh know it, the corner taker slip a fast ground pass almost along the byline on the inside of the now goalward heading TT attacker.
The result was a TT player with a ground ball just inside the box on the byline and a surprised defense.
I remember we not scorin form this play, but we did it a couple times, and the always had near chances.
Like many modern football teams forget about simple yet effective creative plays like this.
The Larson and sweden free kick set play also comes to mind, for this of the posters who know aht i talking about.
If i not mistaken, that play result in a game winner in a Euro knockout game about a decade ago or something.

Yea man we improve to what we was...but we still have work to do.

Compared to them first 3 games, is like a whole different team and tactics.

As ASamuel say, this is the hardest game of the entire round for us, and we showed grit like we never did before in Mexico.
With this same vibes, we woulda never have the US beaten us and most likely beaten CR, not to mention concede 5 vs Guat.
Its not how the team play so much, is the end result that counts more.
If u look at this game, Mexico didnt have that many clear cut chances as they usually have, maybe 3-4 good clear chances....We had maybe 2 half chances.
Last year in TT, they had about 6-7 clear chances, took 3, while we barely had one clear cut chance, only a magnificent stern header.
We have improved.
To beat Panama is also testament to that.
But to make germany, we have to win away from home, or not lose 2 away games.
That will be our true test.

Kudos muct be given to the coach, he has obviously done something to get more form the same bunch of players.

A draw with the US is not out of reach next game.

2 games ago we were only talking about how much we would concede.

We definitely have improved, and we all know the fellas not up to optimum yet eh.....

1527
Football / All these permutations are bullshit!
« on: June 09, 2005, 11:24:21 AM »
all we have to do is win we two home games, and get a win or 2 draws on the road.

This will be good enough for at least 4th if not better depending on other results.

It is all still in our hands.

T&T, Guatemala and CR will be fighting for 2 places, it bils down to that.

If we want to reach germany, we must prove we better than at least one of them.

Beating them will guarantee both.

No if's or buts, we hadda get 6 pts, nothing less, from the home games, and somehow get a win on d road.
Panama and Costa Rica will be prime candidates for that, but the latter is virtually impossible, given the history, altitude etc etc. A draw in San Jose will be marvellous.

As far as i know, the FIFA rule is that you can switch countries you play UNLESS IT IS IN A FIFA TOURNAMENT, eg WCQ, Gold Cups etc etc.
Friendlies dont count, although they are FIFA sanctioned, it is not a tournament.

Football / The way we playing now
« on: June 09, 2005, 07:51:51 AM »
under the new coach and new system, there is no way we would have conceeded 5 vs Guatemala.
That may be the debacle that break we back in the long run, imagine if we end up deadlock with Guatemala and they look at head to head....

We also would not have lost to the US at home I believe.

Half way gone, 4pts we have.

We still in striking distance of CR and Guatemala!

We need a draw vs the US next game.
