Shaka to bounce back...says Ince

Clayton Ince is backing compatriot Shaka Hislop to stand tall between the sticks for the ‘Warriors’ against Costa Rica today.

The Portsmouth custodian conceded a soft goal in Saturday’s 5-1 defeat as Guatemala recorded their biggest home win in World Cup qualifiers.

Ince, who sat on the bench, remained optimistic about Hislop’s and T&T’s future.

“I feel the hurt even though I was on the bench. We have to put that aside and improve. As a goalkeeper you always tend to pick up on your errors and make sure it doesn’t occur again. Shaka is a strong guy and he’s going to bounce back,” Ince said.

“Once required I’ll be there. It’s not a situation where there are number one and number two goalkeepers, we are both first call and it’s just up to the coach to use whichever one on the day.”

Sam hungry for goals

He’s been in good form of late for Wrexham in the English League Two and now he’s eager to get his name among the scorers for this country in World Cup action.

Hector Sam was a second half replacement for Leslie Fitzpatrick against Guatemala but was unable to have any impact on the scoreline. Now he’s desperate to hit the old onion bag.

“I’m just pumped up to get something in the net for my country. My last goal was against St Vincent last year and I haven’t done much more than that for some time and now is when it really matters. Hopefully we can all get it right on the day,” Sam said.

With Wrexham struggling to avoid relegation, Sam, Carlos Edwards and Dennis Lawrence may just well be playing their football elsewhere if the opportunity arises. Edwards looks more likely to move up to a higher ranked club but Sam is also hoping for a good call.

“It’s been well documented that Wrexham have been struggling especially with the administration situation but we’ll see how it goes from here. You always aim to play at a high ranked club and hopefully something will fall in our favour,” Sam said.

Glen gunning again

Guns blazing today. That’s what speedy striker Cornell Glen has on his mind ahead of today’s crucial 2006 World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica.

Glen missed the loss to Guatemala after failing to recover in time for Saturday’s match. He was however declared fit and appeared for Dallas FC in a 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids and is back in the T&T team for today’s game.

“I got the chance to come on against the USA and I was then looking forward to playing against Guatemala before the injury. That left me really disappointed but I’ll get my chance again hopefully on Wednesday. I know we are in need of some goals and points and it feels good to come back at a time when the team is in need of something inspiring which hopefully I can help bring. The Costa Ricans are always known for playing with pace but I believe that once we can put our heads together and get our feet down, there’s no reason why we can’t pull it off,” Glen said.

Rojas ready

Real Salt Lake defender Marlon Rojas is carded to line up for his club against New York/New Jersey Metrostars on the weekend. But he’s more interested in playing today against Costa Rica.

Rojas was a starter in the 2-1 loss to United States last month but was on the bench on Saturday and is keen to get back among the starters having recovered from a hamstring injury.

“I am one hundred percent ready again. The coach is the one who decides whether I play or not and when I’m called I’ll be ready,” Rojas said.

“We are accustomed to these situations and it’s a matter of us being able to rebound against Costa Rica. Deep down I believe the guys all want to get it right in this one.”

Pierre wants better this time

He was in the starting team which lost 2-0 to Costa Rica in the return match of the 2002 World Cup qualifiers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Today, a fitter and more experienced Anton Pierre wants to help T&T to three points which will be more than the team had at the time of meeting the Costa Ricans back in 2002 when six games in the final round were already completed.

“This game is probably the most important of my career because it has much more significance than 2001,” Pierre said. “I think now being able to be in the squad is an achievement but it’s more than that now because we have to get into the habit of beating teams. I’m confident that we can bounce back but it’s going to be hard and we must be prepared for a rough battle.”

The likes of Nigel Pierre, Arnold Dwarika, Nigel Henry, Keyeno Thomas, Angus Eve, Leslie Fitzpatrick, Silvio Spann, Atiba Charles, Brent Sancho, Stern John, Kenwyne Jones and others are all carrying the same thoughts ahead of what is undoubtedly the most crucial game up to this point of the campaign.

Football / Re: The Most Dotish Question..Who MARKING WANCHOPE?
« on: March 30, 2005, 12:20:33 PM »
Fellas I read a post lower down by kingK

now lemme extract a small quote

Quote
At the back, St Clair tried both the lanky Dennis Lawrence and Anton Pierre at the stopper position as replacements for injured Glasgow Rangers defender Marvin Andrews, with Lawrence seeming to get the nod.

While Brent Sancho, Atiba Charles and Keyeno Thomas jostled to fill the man-marking positions, at all times Carlos Edwards and Marlon Rojas occupied the flanking defensive positions, indicating that St Clair was opting once more for the 3-5-2 system.

It will be no surprise to see England-based Yorke in the attacking central midfield position after yesterday's session, while both Eve and Spann vied for the defensive midfield roles.

Alyuh done see how we flop up already.

I watched the game last night on Gayelle and woeful marking by tallman,Sancho and Pierre cause all d goals. TT shoulda win that game.

But anyway lewwe put some common sense here. Instead of going on radio and going in town and signing autograph and tiring outtheyself. They shoulda be watching tape after tape of this costa rica side and preparing.

The defenders shoulda watch every move Wanchope have, The fella named Marin and the next one inthe center name Solis.

But realistically, eve and spann for def mid....we ent winning nuttin there, as one might not play and the other doe tackle.

The giraffe does get burn, Sancho is a fresh breeze swiper, Edwards doe tackle and Pierre Slow.

I really want to know who going and mark Wanchope.............or we ent studying he, same way we ent study Ruiz.

What I would like to suggest is we put on a man as a sacrifical pawn.

Enter Cyd gray or Keyno Thomas or Even Dereck King..........This is the only role they have to perform and let the rest of the team do their job after.

Come on the field and hit Wanchope the BLADE OF HIS LIFE........Incapacitate him, take yuh yellow and we will sub you. At the same time he comes orf the field on a stretcher.

If you posters find this is not becoming of a TT football side....realise this is WC and these are tactics which we have failed to employ, hence we have not qualified for a WC thus far.

Also for those who have short memories, and for those of us who are new to this forum......Costa Rica successfully carried out this exact game plan two world cup campaigns ago. They did so in the Queens Park Oval on our then most beloved and most skillful player a Mr. R. Latapy.......he lasted a mere 12 minutes and was hustled orf to St Clair with No insurance from the TTFF.

The sacrificial player costa Rica used.........a man with the nick name "The Hatchet" H. Montero, and he get away with not even a yellow card.

So, I trying to help alyuh in what ever way I can to suggest ways for us to win this game.

Also bench Stern John and give him a bush bath.....Start Jones and Glenn, SUbs... Sealy and Sam.

I will also be there in my red Jersey from 3pm in Stands.

Will post the report Later!

Touches - Latas lasted more than 12 mins of the forst half before he got that swiping tackle.
The CR players also got carded if i remember correctly.
Still, not a bad price to pay to incapacitate the T&T engine room.
We lost our entire campaign on that one play, and Vranes was fired.
We end up with 1 pt in 6 games.
In 2001, similar way we end up.
We tyhreatening to end up like that again if we dont win today.
Thats how important it is for us.

Big players show up for Big games.
He knows that this could be potentially his biggest ever.

See how he goes for 1 hr.
All forwards go through this and come out of it.
If he starts back firing, CR will have hell to pay.

Is eaither the TTFF are bobolees, or BSC just didnt want him.
And the man scoring for his club eh.
Not to mention Avery, who does rest nuff bat on these same US stars, and he cant even make the team that getting humiliated from guatemala.

yes, Simoes is a different class coach to BSC, but Simoes ride the same wave that T&T did 8 years before, i.e. he had a team of mainly locals, always at his disposal for a very long time. Kinda like the Strike Squad days, and maybe like Guatemala now.
Add to this a peak in the right time of a few locals with real talent, plus a forward who got into the form of his life (Burton).

We had similar stuff in 89, ie Latas and maybe Leonson Lewis.
For all intents and purposes, T&T was a wc quality team in 89, so we kinda equal to Ja on that front, plus we qualify a youth team right after on d momentum. Ja did the same...See the pattern developing here?
Now, after both countries had their honeymoon period, and players start getting ship out, and other countries start taking them serious, look how both of us ketching we tail.
Ja going through now exactly what T&T went thru in 94 and 98, and even 2002, with such a string team on paper, perhaps one of the top 2 or 3 in CONCACAF, yet fail miserably.
Its alsmot like carbon copy, ie the development, just we 6-8 years ahead of them.

What we need is:
1) a change in tactics and selection
2) a player from T&T to ketch the form of his life
3) and some good ole fashion luck!

we need a change in overall administration, like how some of them pro clubs in T&T going about business now, like real entrepeneurs.
A coach is only as good as his players and administration.

I agree with many...Jabloteh is an example of what a T&T can accomplish (ie beating a US team like steelpan with the right prep).

But that will not happen in the near future.

Camps and dem will have to die first.

I say....No

Cyah get much lower than this.  He told the team this might be his last game as coach if they didn't win and they go out and give a performance like that.  If one was cynical and believe in conspiracy theory, one might even think de players sabotage dis game.

No need to delay the inevitable.  Get it done one time.  Ah wouldn't be surprised if Lincoln tek ova.

I'll say this in BSC defence.  As has been pointed out by maxg and others before....he took the job and all the heat that came along with it.  All de coaches who sayin dis and dat doh have de BALLS to do it.  Respeck to BSC fuh dat.  You tried your best.  Cannot ask for more than that.

I do not think any coach in his right mind would want to take over a team at this point in the proceedings. You may do better keeping BSC than try to bring in someone who does not know the players and the players do not know him. Remember the Reggae boyz lost to Panama with a new head coach who only had two weeks to settle. In his first game he did not use any substitutes as he said he did not know the players.

Getting rid of BSC now could be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire!

Tillamawnin - Now there is a name I havent heard in ages!

is that many were expecting TT and Guat and Panama to be fighting for the 4th spot.

I was jus reading the FIFA regulations concerning games in this round.
If we tie with Guat at the end of the 10 games, they start looking at the results between the 2 teams in the group play.
Seeing that they blitz us 5-1 las nite, unless we can beat them 5-0 in the POS return, they will get the edge.
So if we going to the WC, we hadda aim now to finish 3rd at the least, and somehow find a way to put 5 on Guatemala in TT on Sept 3rd, just in case.
Then the fact that we have Mexico as our last game, it makes winning our next 2 home games vs CR and Panama totally essential. Winning in Panama is now an essential as well, no ifs or buts.

One thing for certain, we aint qualifying for Germany with games to spare. That is known.
Is either we flop big time like 2001, or it goes down to the wire, and we done know how T&T does play in pressure games that have meaning.

Pressure.

A couple T&T players have to step up and perform better than we ever see them play or expect them to play over the next 8 games, in odda words, we need some heroics (of the order greater than Latas and Leonson in 89), and some luck. We also need one of the teams to self destruct, like we did in 2001, and Costa Rica in 1997.
We not playing or getting the kinda luck right now to even make 7 pts in this entire round.
IT IS INDEED CRISIS TIME.

Funny you are speaking about crisis time and you defended this shoemaker for so long. Just proves my point about Trinbagonians. Aint know shit but want to talk the most.

Steups, if i didnt know better, i would think that you are almost happy that we losing in this manner now.
Is either yuh wear panty or u is jus a natural fassy, yuh damn jackass.
Boss, when las i check, Trinidad was losing. The country that is yours and mine.
I done admit already that you and Triniman d fagget was right about BSC, get over it.
Lord, you want knighthood now?
We both want T&T to succeed, focus your parading and sowboating attitutde about BSC and his followers into a positive light nah.
How long will you harp upon the BSC fact?
This is football boss, anything can happen.
The best managers in the world are hired and fired constantly.
BSC was the best T&T coach of all time with regards to accomplishments, and had the team played the best in terms of attractive ball and team camaraderie  in 1999, heck we even set a new record, unbeaten in 9 games straight in that period, then we went on to come 3rd in the gold cup.
I defend BSC, but a big part was that we had nobody even close locally to replace him, and i still feel so, and we dont have the $$ to get a quality foreign coach.
So unless you want to go and sell yuh soul in curepe junction and donate some money to the TTFF, shut the f**k up and start talking realistic and possible scenarios and stop dwelling on critisising the T&T supporters over and over who was supporting they local coach through thick and thin.
As i said, is like you happy trinidad and tobago getting beaten now.
Nobody say shit and yuh come sliding in........ all of a sudden from nowhere.
I feel u is a guyanese.

we cannot just develop locals.
This is not 1989.

Once we start to develop locals, they will perform in international games and english clubs will be courting.

Who in their right mind wouldnt grasp the opportunity to go there then and make 100 times yuh local salary, plus have a chance to get seen by a bigger team and play with the best in the world?

We cannot develop a fully local team unless the TTFF buy out every man contract for 4-5 years, and we start preparing for 2010. Then we MAY have a chance.

we do that last campaign, and the one before that as well.
Once we self destruct, we bring in locals, saying we preparing for the future, and it looking bright for the next time, yet is the same pile we play.

No way Nakhid should still be playing, and I being lenient to allow Yorke.

We have so much talented midfielders in T&T, is a shame.
Poor Rahim coulda be with the T&T team full time back home.
Seaton is a magical player.
Dwarika if in form is a CONCACAF spoiler.
Josh Johnson have real pace and heart.
Ian Gray could run up and dong the left flank whole day.
Spann have class.
Eve is good coming off the bench.

But we have Nakhid and Yorke still playing in midfield.

Football / I feeling like TrueTrini. BSC should be replaced
« on: March 27, 2005, 10:40:25 AM »
Being one of his biggest supporters, I was always hoping for the best. Changing him would have been disastrous before the final round started. We would have repeated our same mistakes yet again.
But now it seems that we would not have done much worse had we really replaced him.

This rounds its all about the results.
If we cant take an away point off Guatemala, what chance do we have vs USA, MEX, CR??
Even worse, to collect 5.
If it was  narrow defeat, I woulda say ok, maybe some bad luck as usual, give hime till Wed, being only 3-4 days away. No change will make that much of an impact.
Plus we may get back some of the missing players.
But we sinking fast.
BSC always saying trust him, we will qualify, but that trust is real hard to give now.
If we keep him till Wed, and somehow we manage to pulll off a win, they might keep him, but will that be good in the long run for the next 7 games?
I will accept that Triniman and Sub were right, he should have been replaced.
Whatever the TTF decide to do now for Wed, I cool with that.
But we have to win on wednesday, no 2 ways about that.
Anything less than a win, BSC will surely be fired. Then we will have 2 months before the next set of games, good a for a new coach (considering the circumstances), but then we will be effectively out the race, having to hope we can win 2 games on the road and draw another.
Question is - who would replace BSC at this point?
I hear the name Fenwick come up, he did some lovely work woth Jab, even the next englishman they had after him.
I cant see any local getting that spot, unless they just give the assistants the job to take us through.
The players also have to step up big time now, to get 5-1 in an international match from Guatemala is humiliating. A lot of the blame lies with them, cause we know they can do much better.
They owe the people of T&T a good result.
5 defeats in 6 internationals.....If we dont beat CR on Wed, I will safely say that we will finsh dead last, with barely the same 5 points we got in 2001.

Lawd, 5-1! From a team that we usually beat so easily.
Even in woeful 2001, we beat them 3-1 in a friendly.
I thought it couldnt get worse than 2001, but it is quickly getting there.

i doh care how good we look or play, you cant deny a 5-1 result.

Playing good will not get us to a WC.

Any team in the world could decide to play good and look exciting, but thats not the point.

If Iraq decide to play gallery football, they could, and look very good even if they playing England. But they will still get 5-1.

Playing good and still getting 5-1 tells me 2 things:
1) We defence was atrocious (to concede 5)
2) We attack was atrocious (to score only 1 from playing so much good ball)

I eh deflated supporter because anyone with some honesty could have seen this coming.  Of course...I was hopin dat de team would jes KETCH A VAPS and put down a good performance.  But for 432 days now....anyone following the T&T team in that time could have predicted this "performance".  The last WCQ game against St Vincent in T&T was no fluke.  The warm up games against Haiti were no fluke.  The Digicel Cup games were no fluke.  But there was still hope that somehow...someway...this team could jes wake up one day and IN SPITE OF THEIR PAST PERFORMANCES, play like we know they can.

Instead.....they caved....horridly.  And is not because men weren't trying because that would be INACCURATE.  EVERYBODY TRIED.  They just weren't able.  I think that first goal killed the team.  You could almost see the "here we go again" from the team.  Carlos' fortuitious goal gave some hope and then we go and give up a goal where Lawrence duck/dummy de ball.

Ah spend $20 to go and support meh National team.  Small change in de overall scheme of tings.  Ah would do it again but it really disheartenin.  To expeck to see something, yet hopin against hope dat it go against the script only to see it unfold exactly as it was scripted before yuh eyes.

Oh well....ah keepin on meh wrist band thingy because ah could get een de same place fuh Brasil vs Peru tomorrow at 11:00am without havin to pay again.  Dat take a lil bit out of de bun ah feelin.

As fuh what RF say about Jamaica have live coverage with Jamaican commentators.....dat is a damn disgrace!  WE DO NOT DESERVE TO GO A PLACE.  I only sorry for the players who tryin dey best on behalf of a ungrateful and disgraceful people.

Palos- u sum it up boy, we all know he team playin shite, and was serious underdogs, but we all hope that T&T would use some of its unpredictability and jus show up and play some serious ball.
Even that unpredictability going now,  and unfortunately for us, we going in the wrong direction.
It jus occur to me, look at how poorly the team playing now, and remember when BSC was in charge in 1999, we went 9 games unbeaten, beating plenty good teams in the process, then beating this same guatemala 4-2 in the GC and Costa Rica as well....It have to be the players, cause BSC could not have personally regressed so much by himself.
Now his teams are being beaten 5 in 6 games, plenty of them by fellow caribbean countries.
We need some serious prayers for Wed.
Even the most diehard fan in T&T now not expecting 3 pts on Wed.

My worse nightmare come through with giraffe in the back, why d ass this man still playing for T&T, lawd have mercy.

Dont we have other defenders in the PFL who can defend and have more speed than him???

Isnt the core of Guatemala team local based? Isnt our league on par with them?

We real miss Dog, Glen and Stern (he not playing like the Stern we know).

We have to face reality, the team not that good.

To get 5-1 from a team we were eyeing to be beating and taking 4pts minimum from, that doesnt say much for us and our chances this year.

Everybody beating us, from Antigua to Haiti to Jamaica to Cuba to St Vincent.
We barely beating Bim.

The root of our problem is not just the coach, or the players, it is the whole situation.
Players playing shit.
Coach picking the wrong men.
TT public not interested.
Guatemala and Panama in much better form than us.

It all adds up.

Unless we find a way to have a major turnaround on Wed evening and win that game, its all over.

Very remniscent of the 2001 campaign, a narrow loss to open, then a serious beating in the second game.

We have to go one better in the third game and not only get a draw, but now a win.

I dont know how the team will pick up themselves now.

I know if we aint win on Wed, BSC will be fired.

Even me who was defending him so long will have to agree with the choice.
He was hired to take us to Germany, and after 3 games, if we only have 0-1 pt, he has failed.

The team selection must also be totally overhauled.

What is so disturbing is that we play so much games over the last 18 months, and is like these players still clueless.
I could understand we getting licks, but now 5-1.

Dwarika, Seaton, Nixon, Glen, Dog, Cox, Rojas, Sealy et al must be playing.

Interesting to see the comments after this game and also who will be coming back for the CR game.

We in trouble
