Ah liking the riddim for this one, not sure it's Soca but this would have been a hard summer anthem if she held fire for a few more months.

Entertainment & Culture Discussion / luke cage

I finished the series last week. Overall I liked it, but i liked Daredevil Season 1 and Jessica Jones more. I'll try not to put outright spoilers but there may be some info in here for people who haven't seen it yet.

Luke: I am not sure what happened to Luke between the end of JJ and the start of this show as in the beginning he comes across like a bit of a punk. He was wooden, stiff and dare I say whiney. Sometimes I was watching the screen and telling him to stop being such a bitch. I get he's supposed to be a reluctant hero, trying to stay under the radar and he had a traumatic past but it seemed forced the way he tried to deal with it. By the end he started to come around and show some swagger and charisma.

Cottonmouth: Best character in the show, stole every scene he was in. I was actually looking forward to his scenes versus Luke's. The actor really sold this guy.

Mariah: Another character whose angst and development felt forced. I didn't buy her whole transformation at all. Even the scene when she tripped out and lost it didn't feel believable. By the end it just felt like they ran out of good material for her character.

Diamondback: Over-the-top, a cartoonish parody of a villain. For a master criminal, made some really dotish moves. They tried to allude that his recklessness was due to his emotional ties to the situation but yet again it was another example of forcing something that did not feel right.

The show was still entertaining and I look forward to seeing how they bring together DD, LC, JJ and Iron Fist for the Defenders.

BTW the soundtrack for the show is BOSS. I end up looking up and buying a couple tunes like "Long Live the Chief".

If yuh like action check out Strike Back. The first 3 seasons available on Amazon if you are a Prime member. It used to show on Cinemax so at least one graphic sexy scene per episode and plenty action. A review on Amazon call it 24 on crack, and once it get going its non stop pace.

Could the speed limit be higher? Maybe.
Should it? When people could buy their permits and be on the road? When people driving pickup and eh even understand how different a heavy vehicle is with handling? When the drivers education poor? I eh feel so.
how is it that a whole lot of people don't perish on the roads in germany like they do in trinidad and jamaica in spite of the germans not having a speed limit on the freeways, is it because of a lack of road infrastructure and not speed?

i am a firm believer that a lot of our road fatalities is as a direct result of poor roads maintenance and infrastructure.

i remembered a few years ago every time i read the news where someone was killed on the road it was in direct relation to a vehicle crossing the median and colliding with cars traveling in the opposite direction, or someone leaving the roadway and winding up in a ditch, or a vehicle running into a lamppost, tree, under a bridge or turning over on the side of the road, but in most cases the people were killed because of a combination of speed and running off the road into another object.

i would say with scientific certainty that if our highways were secured with the proper infrastructure where vehicles after losing control for whatever reason, be it speed, lack of driving skill or both, had actually stayed on the roadway after they lost control, 85% of the people who died as a result would have survived their accident. our government needs to do better in this regard because it's not rocket science or a daunting task.

Also don't forget the driver education is a crucial element. When me and my friend got our license it was all about passing a test, nothing about learning skills, defensive driving or controlling a car in different conditions. In Germany, it's multiple parts to the drivers education including first aid. When we were in Germany back in 2006 we were hanging with this girl and she was studying for her license and the study manual was a thick binder just for the winter driving portion of the overall exam.

General Discussion / Re: Another Mass Shooting in America
« on: December 03, 2015, 09:00:48 AM »

i'm hearing a next one in san bernardino, california - 14 dead.

Like Americans afraid to label a white American a terrorist. The world is watching

Well whenever a white person commit a mass shooting it's because they are crazy right? After the fella kill the people in the church I see a politician on TV calling him a crazy kid. Same thing with the mass murderer at the Sandy Hook Elementary school; another disturbed and troubled kid. Never hear anyone call the Boston bomber a troubled, crazy kid.

The only reason that would compel a white person to commit mass murder is because they have a mental illness. But if yuh black or Middle Eastern you are just a thug or a terrorist.

is it a thug/terrorist culture or mental illness?

Ribbit, good question, I suspect a bit of both. I was trying to point out that when white folks commit mass murders the default position in the media always seems to be that they were not right in the head. It's not a benefit of the doubt that gets extended to others.

Also it feels like words such as thug and terrorist have evolved to become catch-all slurs against particular groups thus making it easier to dismiss their actions rather than searching for a root cause. (Want to point out that I am by no means trying to excuse any violence committed by anyone no matter their justification or perceived grievance). It's much easier to say thugs (i.e. Blacks) are low lifes than talk about lack of opportunities in black communities. Terrorists "hate us for our freedom" papers over deeper questions about Western policy in the ME, Israel/Palestine.

But seriously, would a person in their right mind strap a bomb to their chest and walk into a place full of civilians and detonate so they could please an all powerful God (one so powerful that they need them to smite the unbelievers in their stead) and get 72 virgins?

« on: October 28, 2015, 07:25:49 AM »
Sound like some BS to me. He is not part of the establishment. So they can't take chances. I know this sounds conspiratorial but really?

I doh think yuh far off at all.

The voting members of FIFA have profited and benefited from Blatter forever. FIFA is a closed, insular system designed to sustain itself (like the mafia or a gang) so no one person can drive radical change without either convincing the existing members to risk their own interests for a greater payoff or removing a majority of the entrenched members. In the end, what I think FIFA fears most is transparency. Any new leader will make reforms, but a promoted insider will know how to make some reforms while keeping people's pockets whole.

The problem for Nakhid is not that he is is an outsider, it is he is an unknown quantity and people in the system cannot vouch for him. The guy from South Africa Tokyo Sexwale is an outsider but they know him from the SA WC organizing committee. Realistically speaking, they know Nakhid has a very low chance of winning, but the biggest risk of him as an unknown is allowing him a peek behind the curtain to see how the system really operates.

So I was late to follow the so called controversy with Padarath and the princess and bull-it proof vest comments. I noticed that immediately after the comments the gay and lesbian community get in a huff and Smith end up apologizing to the gay community as well as Padarath.

However I was wondering, has Padarath ever come out officially and said he was gay? Or is it being assumed because he looks like a Ken doll? If he's not it seems like the reaction of the gay community has done more to stigmatize him than the original comments.
