Pfister set to take Soca Warriors job.
T&T Guardian Reports.

German Otto Pfister is expected to be appointed as coach of the Soca Warriors after he topped a shortlist of candidates interview recently. Over the past few weeks, the T&T Football Federation (TTFF) has been evaluating a handful of coaches for the position.

They included former Holland international Irwin Koeman who visited T&T last month to be interviewed by TTFF officials. He was followed by veteran Pfister a few days later and he also underwent the same process which included discussions as well as touring some of the local facilities.

It is understood that Dutchman Johan Neeskens was also in the running as well as former Portugal and Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz, who later opted out of the race prior to a scheduled trip to meet with local officials last week.

A source close to the situation said, “The T&TFF technical committee has made a decision to go with Pfister and contract negotiations are being finalised.

The decision by the TTFF technical committee which is headed by technical advisor Keith Look Loy, has also been submitted to the the local federation executive committee and a final announcement is expected within the next couple of weeks. Pfister is regarded as one of Germany’s most successful coaching exports, voted Africa’s Manager of the Year in 1992.

He has been to four African Cup of Nations competitions with Burkina Faso, Zaire, Cameroon and Ghana and reached the African Cup of Nations final twice, with Cameroon and Ghana.

Pfister has won the Fifa Under-17 World Cup with Ghana and also coached Togo at the 2006 World Cup Finals.During his visit to last month, Pfister visited witnessed the Toyota Classic quarterfinal match between Caledonia AIA and eventual tournament winner, Ma Pau at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. Back then, a composed Pfister said he saw a lot of work to be done here.

The 73-year-old Pfister also qualified for 1998 Fifa World Cup with Saudi Arabia added, “I have experiences myself similar to that of T&T as I took Togo to the World Cup in Germany.

It’s a big challenge but it is possible with a professional conception,” Pfister added. On the job at 73, and having began coaching as a player coach at age 23 in Switzerland back in 1961, Pfister says working with young players, keeps him fresh and vibrant. Look Loy had also commented that Pfister’s coaching resume was remarkable, having enjoyed success in 15 countries on three continents.

“He is well experienced in World Cup qualifying and final tournaments, and has managed some of the international game’s established names. This knowledge could serve us well,” said Look Loy.

Meanwhile, officials of the T&TFF are expected to meet with Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Anil Roberts and Sport Company of T&T (Sportt) chairman, Rhett Chee Ping to discuss the financial support towards to the salary package for Pfister which is expected to be close to US60,000 a month.

Trinidadians guide US college to football title
Sunday, November 15 2009

http://newsday.co.tt/sport/0,110944.html

TEN LONG years it took coach Brent Dukhie to build a champion football team. The Trinidadian joined Concordia College as a player. Then he turned coach of the team with the aim of bringing a championship title to the American college in Selma, Alabama.

And despite great adversity, on Sunday last, ten years later, Concordia College were crowned national champions in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

The Hornets as they are nicknamed, did it the hard way. First the student-athletes were forced to raise the finances to attend the championship.

They held fundraisers and suffered great personal financial sacrifice but the effort enabled them to attend the tournament in one week.

But the hardships did not end there as they endured a 31-hour bus ride from Selma, Alabama, to the tournament site in Vermont. Still the problems did not cease as on the first day of their journey they suffered a flat tyre.

This set the Concordia College footballers back seven hours, and according to Dukhie they had to play a 1.30 pm match in the snow on the Friday.

“It was the first time we had ever played in the snow, and as if that was not bad enough, we played at 8.30 pm on Saturday when the temperature was 19 degrees,” Dukhie said.

But, Concordia, seeded sixth in the eight-team tournament gritted it out and beat Penn State York (Philadelphia) 1-0 on a goal by Brent Pierre n Friday and on Saturday with goals from Pierre and Hyron Browne- Baptiste, shut out Rochester College (Minnesota) 2-0.

In the championship match, Browne-Baptiste gave Concordia the lead mid-second half, but Jabneel Springer scored from a corner-kick for Briarcliff to knot up the scores sending the match into two over-time periods. Dukhie said: “It was 30 degrees when the game started and the temperature kept dropping as it went on, then our starters started dropping through injury.”

But after the two over-time periods, Concordia scored with their first four kicks in the penalty shootout while Briarcliffe managed one goal and the Hornets were champions.

Goalkeeper Akil Benjamin of St Kitts was named the tournament “Most Valuable Player”.

And Browne-Baptiste who scored 12 goals in the 15 matches Concordia played and Bryan Constantine were both named to the USCAA All- American first team while Emery Joyeau and Pierre earned honourable mention. Browne-Baptiste, Leandro Subero, Lekol Kordah and Akol Benjamin were named to the All-Tournament team. Concordia had a season record of 15 matches played, 11 won, two drawn and two lost.

Dukhie said their championship title was designed by fate, “We never stopped believing. It is not how the story begins, it’s how it ends,” said an overjoyed Dukhie. “We have written out own stories. This is not about soccer. This is about life.” To add to their success, both Kenjay Simmonds and Brent Pierre were named Academic All Americans.

Dukhie was very proud of his 19-man squad made up of players from Trinidad and Tobago, Senegal, Nigeria, St Kitts and the USA.

One congratulatory e-mail to coach Dukhie and his team pointed out Concordia Colleges’ overall GPA, noting that the school consistently led in grades and graduated every single player that came through the system.

The e-mail said, “This is a testament to the quality of student-athletes and said credit goes to coach Dukhie for recruiting and maintaining those standards that are now National Champions.

- entire Golden Jaguars retire amidst calls for Guyana Football Federation president Colin Klass to resign

By Rawle Toney

Guyana’s national football team known as the Golden Jaguars yesterday moved their battle from the field to the office of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) with the members of the team which participated in the Group H matches of the Digicel Caribbean Cup tournament in Trinidad retiring from the sport until president of the GFF Colin Klass steps down.
However, contacted for a comment yesterday Klass surprisingly told this newspaper that he knew nothing of the development.
Reports are that the players met with Klass approximately 3:00am yesterday morning outside of the Crown Plaza hotel in Trinidad and Tobago (after drawing 1-1 with Trinidad and Tobago in their final group match) as Klass was about to return to Guyana.

All 20 players told him that they would not represent Guyana any longer if he remained as president of the GFF.
According to reports, the players complained of poor standards, poor training equipment, the poor state of encampment, monies outstanding and constant disorganization during international duty.

Speaking to Stabroek Sports yesterday, captain of the national team Charles ‘Lilly’ Pollard said that the decision was made because the players felt they have had enough of the ill treatment from the Klass-led GFF.

“This move is to make sure that our future generation doesn’t suffer the same fate like us. For far too long we have had to contend with held up in allowances, asking for proper conditions for our camps among plenty other things,” said the out-spoken Pollard.

He added that although no time frame was given for Klass to step down, the players were deadly serious about their decision and would be making another statement shortly. But Klass told this newspaper that he was not aware of this development.
“This is news to me. I know nothing about the players resigning if I don’t step down. I spoke to the players in Trinidad before I returned home about other issues but not on this, so as far as I know this is not so,” said the
GFF president.
Colin Klass

Colin Klass

But Stabroek Sports contacted an official at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Trinidad and Tobago who reported that the incident did take place and that the players did in fact issue that ultimatum to Klass.
The official, who asked to remain anonymous, said that as a matter of fact there was even some altercation as voices were being raised by the players in what sounded like a heated argument.
“I thought that they were going to harass him (Klass) because of how furious they were. This occured around three something this morning (yesterday) as he (Klass) was preparing to leave along with some other players who checked out to return home,” said the source at the hotel.

The players are calling for support. In a statement sent to this newspaper they  appealed for help and asked their fans not to support the GFF and its activities.

“We are appealing to all our fans to boycott all GFF sanctioned football until Klass and his administration go,” the players said in a statement, adding  …”enough is enough!”
Charles Pollard

Charles Pollard

Klass has been at the helm of the GFF for the past 20 years and has been coming in for strong criticism for not doing enough to enhance the sport despite the fact that the GFF receives an annual subvention of US$250,000 from its parent body FIFA.
Recently there were several calls from persons who are very upset about the state of the sport here for Klass to step down but the GFF president has remained completely immune to those calls.

According to the statement from the players it was a shame that such a drastic set of events have had to transpire but they added that they have had enough of the administration’s incompetence.

“This is for the future of Guyana’s football. May the football world hear our cry for help!”

Telesford nets in Islanders 3-1 win over Miami Blue
Trinidad Guardian

BAYAMON—T&T defender Osei Telesford, formerly of US Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire got the opening goal as the Puerto Rico Islanders whipped Miami Blue 3-1 on Sunday in their second rain-drenched encounter of the weekend.

The Puerto Rico Islanders came to the field full of energy and sporting a new bright green uniform, ready to avenge the 2-0 loss suffered on Friday, and so they did.

From as early as the first minute the match heated up as Miami took the first free-kick, and Puerto Rico’s forward Taiwo Atieno followed suit in minute four with a powerful shot that came dangerously close to the goal.

Both squads continued their spirited exchange until a foul inside the box on Puerto Rico’s Noel Fabrice set up the first goal of the game. Victor Herrera had no problem blasting the penalty kick past keeper Josh Saunders for the score. But Miami came back in minute 24, as Alex Afonso also made good on a penalty kick that Bill Gaudette was unable to stop, evening the score 1-1.

As rain continued drenching the field, Puerto Rico kept moving forward and the Blues’ defense fended well the attack. Noah Delgado came close to doing away with the tied score with two separate powerful shots to goal in minutes 27 and 42. Saunders, however, was ready to meet the challenge and the first half closed at 1-1.

The tiebreaker the local squad was eagerly seeking finally came in minute 76. A scramble inside Miami’s box set up the perfect opportunity for Osei Telesford to put the ball into the back of the net.

The one goal advantage seemed to ignite the Islanders and stir tempers on the Miami side. Two yellow cards, followed by a red card expulsion for Cristiano Dias seemed to doom the visitors.

In minute 89 Puerto Rico closed the deal for good. An assist from Noah Delgado found Taiwo Atieno ready to blast in the third and final goal of the game.

The Islanders will stay home the rest of the week as they get ready to host the Montreal Impact on Friday, May 2.

Stern cops 'player of the year' award.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF)

Trinidad and Tobago English-based striker Stern John was celebrated by his Southampton Club as he was named the club’s Player of the Year and also received the Goal of the Season Award at the club’s Player Awards ceremony on Tuesday night.

John’s superb goal against Stoke was one of two efforts he had on the Goal of the Season short-list, sponsored by Weatherhills. Also in line for Season awards are Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones, Swansea City's Jason Scotland and Walsall's Clayton Ince.

“One of the most anticipated awards is always the Players' Player of the Season, sponsored by Parkhouse, where players get to find out what their team-mates really think of them! This years' 'Best in Show' went to Stern John who picked up his second trophy of the night.

The Trinidad and Tobago striker's impressive haul of 17 league goals have shown him to be a sound investment following his countryman Kenwyne Jones' move up to Sunderland,” a statement from the Southampton club.

“It came somewhat of a surprise to me but I think it was fitting and special in many regards because we’ve had a hard season and when players pay  tribute to you in this way by selecting you as their best player, it says a lot and brings a lot of personal satisfaction to you,”John told TTFF Media.

“The goal award was also special. I had two goals in the final five and I felt I had some my better goals at this club so the award was a deserved one. I will still like to get to twenty with two games left in the season. But right now the main focus is to go all out and win the next two matches and make sure we don’t have to worry about where we will be playing next season. We face the league leaders West Brom next and this is going to be a massive one for the club,” John said.

John, expected in the country in mid-May, is backing head coach Francisco Maturana to get the best possible team ready for the friendly against England on June 1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, as well as the back to back 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda on June 15 and 22.

“I think what he (Maturana) is doing is trying to set the right foundation for the team and at this time it’s not too late. I think he knows what sort of quality he has already in some of the players based outside and right now he’s trying to prepare a base of local players to ensure that we have good depth in the squad. It is important that the players involved now get all the support especially for the games like the one coming up against Grenada.

These are good games for the younger players because this is how you get the experience that will enable you to push on more against the higher ranked teams like a Mexico or USA. Of course we need to be playing bigger teams in the friendlies as well and that’s where the likes of a Jamaica comes on. The England game will be an important one for us because it gives us a chance to test our level at this time before the bigger qualifiers come around,” John added.

The evening’s proceedings was rounded off  by a charity auction with all proceeds going to help Saints in the Community. Fans from boxes 22 and 24 bid £1,100 for a match-worn pair of  John's boots.

The current T&T team will continue preparations on this week leading up to Sunday’s friendly against Grenada at the Marvin Lee Stadium from 6pm. French-based striker Kevaughn Connell will join the team on Thursday hoping to make his senior international debut on Sunday. Grenada, preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica in June, will arrive in the country on Friday.

T&T senior team call-up for Britto.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

T&T and Clico San Juan Jabloteh U-17 talent Jerrel Britto has been named in a T&T Senior Team provisional squad preparing for an international warn-up against Grenada on Sunday.

Britto a talented forward was unselected for the 2007 World Cup in Korea, an upset in many minds. He went on to captain the T&T U-15s in the 2007 CFU tournament where he dominated as leading goalscorer despite T&T’s third place finish. The T&T talent enjoyed UK trials earlier this year as a number of clubs are hawking the Jabloteh youngster.

T&T head coach Francisco Maturana has revised a 25-man squad to prepare for the Grenada encounter with Charleston Battery striker Randi Patterson being excused.

Other new additions include U-17 player Zavion Navarro, 2007 U-17 World Cup goalie Glenroy Samuel, Jabloteh teenaged senior team midfielder Atulla Guerra and veteran defender Anton Pierre of Defence Force also earning a recall after a long layoff from the national senior team. United Petrotrin target man Jerrol Forbes also earned a call-up. The squad had their first training session on Monday morning at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

The full T&T squad are:

Goalkeepers—Marvin Phillip (W Connection), Glenroy Samuel (Caledonia AIA)

Defenders—Kern Cupid, Akeem Adams (W Connection), Makan Hislop (United Petrotrin), Akile Edwards, Anton Pierre, Michael Edwards (Defence Force), Kareem Smith (United Petrotrin), Keyeno Thomas (Joe Public)

Midfielders—Kerry Baptiste (Joe Public), Kevon Carter (Defence Force), Daniel Cyrus (U-17), Keon Daniel (United Petrotrin), Stephan David (Caledonia AIA), Aurtis Whitley, Ataullah Guerra, Lester Peltier (Jabloteh)

Forwards—Jerrel Britto (Jabloteh), Jerol Forbes (United Petrotrin), Connell Kevaughn (L’Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien), Jamal Gay, Zavion Navarro

...Forbes called for Puerto Rico friendly.

Trinidad and Tobago National Team head coach Francisco Maturana has selected a squad of twenty-six players to attend training sessions ahead of this country’s next friendly international against Puerto Rico at the Marvin Lee Stadium on April 27.

The Colombian-born coach has called up French-based forward Kevaughn Connell and in-form United Petrotrin striker Jerol Forbes. Connell is a 24-year-old striker with French Third Division club L'Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien.

Forbes meantime was a member of the T&T Under 17 team at the 2001 FIFA Under 17 World Championship, scoring T&T’s lone goal in its defeat to Brazil at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Team manager David Muhammad confirmed that Connell who had stints with Joe Public, Clico Jabloteh, New York/New Jersey MetroStars as well as played for French club AS Cannes, was already contacted and will make the trip home for the encounter.

Also earning calls for the encounter is Toronto FC defender Julius James, English-based goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams, Lester Peltier of Clico San Juan Jabloteh and Charleston Battery’s Randi Patterson.

Current team captain Aurtis Whitley is also in the mix with some other recalls including Defence Force defender Anton Pierre, Devon Jorsling, Michael Edwards and Caledonia AIA’s Stephan David.

The rest of the squad, for training which begins a week ahead of the game includes members of the teams which defeated El Salvador 1-0 and drew 2-2 away to Jamaica last month. They are goalkeeper Marvin Phillip, Keon Daniel, Kern Cupid, Akile Edwards, Kerry Baptiste, Keyeno Thomas, Jamaal Gay, Silas Spann, Keston Williams, Makan Hislop and Akeem Adams.

Maturana, who has viewed some of the opening round matches in the T&T Pro League, maintains that he will use the opportunity to see how the players fare in the training sessions and against international opposition. Some of the other overseas-based players were not considered due to the game falling outside of the FIFA international window.

“It’s a good opportunity for the players to be involved and we have made the calls according to what we have seen here in the League and of course we have our reports on some of the players from abroad,” Maturana told TTFF Media. “It is very important that we maintain our philosophy of working with the players who show the right potential and attitude that we are looking for. The last two games I saw a lot of promise and a lot of heart from my players and we are hoping to continue this pattern,” he added. Puerto Rico meantime, held T&T 2-2 in a friendly earlier this year are preparing for upcoming World Cup qualifying action against Honduras in June.

T&T will also face Barbados on May 11 in another friendly international on a request from the Barbados FA with their team preparing for their World Cup qualifier against United States.

The 2010 Local Organizing Committee, under the chairmanship of Jack Warner, met on Sunday at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence to discuss the planning and hosting of upcoming events including the friendlies against Puerto Rico and Barbados, the June 1 Centennial clash with England and the June 7 return friendly international against Jamaica in Port of Spain. The “Soca Warriors” will also face Bermuda in its first 2010 World Cup qualifier on June 15 in Trinidad followed by the away leg a week later.

T&T'S PAUL SOAKS UP THE SUNDERLAND EXPERIENCE

Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Leston Paul will get the chance to mingle with Sunderland's Premiership players including T&T's own Carlos Edwards, Dwight Yorke and Kenwyne Jones when he and seven other Caribbean players attend the club's League encounter with Manchester City.

Paul, courtesy of the Digicel Kick Start clinic has been at the Academy of Light since last Saturday.

The eight Digicel footballers were greeted by unseasonable snow as they landed at Gatwick in London on Sunday April 6.  The boys then headed to Sunderland by train to begin training at the Academy on Monday April 7

The Sunderland stint was pushed back on two occasions and Paul, on each occasion missed out on representing the T&T Senior team. Twice he was excused from the hectic training schedule with T&T before late delays regarding   the Sunderland trip occurred. However since his arrival there, the trip has been well worth it so far, according to the T&T Under 17 ex-captain. "It's been a really good trip so far and I'm taking everything from the experience with me," he said.

On Day one Andrew Murray (Guyana), Joseph Guemsley & Renaud Brisley (Haiti), Gerard Williams & Devaugn Elliot (St. Kitts), Emilio Limon (Suriname), Paul (Trinidad and Tobago) and Akeem Brown (Jamaica) were greeted by Ged McNamee, Sunderland AFC Academy Director.  Each Digicel player received Umbro training kits, given the club rules and regulations and underwent fitness training and tests.  Due to the snow, the boys were unable to train outside and were taken to an indoor pitch to train with the Sunderland reserve team.

On Day two, according to a Digicel press release,  the boys were able to train on an outside pitch.  Due to the boys' ages and size, the Digicel players were separated: three boys (Brisley, Williams and Limon) went to train with the reserve and the remaining five trained with the youth team.  Ged McNamee explains the separation:  "We think it best for the boys to be equally matched in order for them to get the most out of training and this also allows the coaches to assess the players against the recruitment criteria and to observe their potential to determine whether the players could progress further."

At the end of training on Day two, the Digicel footballers were taken on a tour of the Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light. From immaculate changing rooms to the well equipped press room to walking through the player's tunnel, the boys were shown what it would be like to play for a premier league club.

With the boys' excitement in full gear, the Digicel footballers now enter into Day three of training when Sunderland Club manager Roy Keane will observe the Caribbean talent.

On Saturday, Paul and company have the opportunity to meet all the players and Sunderland AFC's Chairman, Niall Quinn.  The Digicel Kick Start footballers will return to Jamaica on Monday April 14.

Caribbean players arrive on Wearside

http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=14598

Eight of the Caribbean's best young footballers arrived for work at the Academy of Light this morning.

The players, aged between 16 and 19, were chosen from the Digicel Kick Start clinics, held in eight countries in the Caribbean earlier this year.

They will spend the week training with Sunderland's reserves and under-18s before watching the Manchester City game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

It was a typical North-East greeting for the youngsters - with temperatures plummeting and snow falling as they arrived on Wearside.

One of the players, Gerard Williams, a 19-year-old midfielder from St. Kitts & Nevis, said: "It's the first time I've seen snow in real life. Before this, it was only in movies. I had to get my camera out!"

This morning's planned training session at the AoL was snowed off so it was arranged for them to train indoors in Durham in the afternoon.

Trinidad and Tobago and W Connection World Cup defender David Atiba Charles is now on trial with Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls.
The 30 year old joined the Red Bulls on Thursday and will be part of their pre-season camp but no conformation was made on how long the player will stay on trial.
Charles left Trinidad in mid-January, joining Swedish Ljungskile SK on trial and a possible contract offer. But according to W Connection Renee John-Williams, things didn’t go as planned.
“The arrangement didn’t materialize the way he (Charles) expected,” said John-Williams. “And he moved to the United States joining the NY Red Bulls on trial.”
Charles’ moves are handled by his agent Heather MacKenzie of MLF Sports.
Ljungskile SK (LSK) promoted to the Sweden’s First Division, also known as the Allsvenskan Division, in the upcoming 2008 Season was seen by Charles as an opportunity to return to Europe.
In 2006 the W Connection player joined Northern Ireland club Glenavon FC, but returned to Trinidad and Tobago in March of 2007 and finished off the year with the ‘Savonnetta Boys’. Charles’ W Connection teammate, goalkeeper Marvin Phillip is also on trial in the United States with another MLS club, FC Dallas.

He was abusive to me, he cuss me and tell me that he doesn't have to account to me

UNC Alliance co-leader Jack Warner has broken his silence over the firing of his longtime friend and political rival Roy Augustus from an executive position at CONCACAF, saying he was the victim of an obscene, abusive confrontation.

Warner, president of CONCACAF and vice president of FIFA, said yesterday that Augustus, the chairman of the Congress of the People, was putting his political interests before his work.

"He (Augustus) was abusive to me, he cuss me and tell me that he doesn't have to account to me for his time and that I am the world's greatest deceiver," said Warner, who once shared a 25-year professional friendship with Augustus, a former principal of Rosary Boys' RC School.

Warner was speaking at President's House, St Ann's after United National Congress Political Leader Basdeo Panday officially received his instrument of appointment for the post of Opposition Leader from President George Maxwell Richards.

Warner said some time ago Augustus told him he had a meeting at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, but it turned out that Augustus went to the COP headquarters at Gaston Court, Chaguanas to join COP political leader Winston Dookeran at a press conference.

"I sacked him because he left to go to the Centre of Excellence to a meeting and he lied...he went to Gaston (Court) with Mr Dookeran," said Warner, adding that he was upset when he saw Augustus's photo on the front page of a daily newspaper the next day.

"So I wrote to him and I asked him why and he cuss my mother, my grandchildren, my mother and so on, he told me that Mr Panday say to fire him and why don't I fire him. I say you fired," said Warner.

"He said to me I could do what I want and all the F's in the world and all the mother so and so in the world, I say to him thank you very much," Warner continued.

Warner said he did not fire Augustus before because of Augustus's loyalty to the COP.

"Mr Augustus has been in the COP as chairman for over a year, I didn't sack him. He went on leave, I didn't sack him. He went on the platform and was very critical and nasty of me, I didn't sack him," said Warner.

Warner added that Augustus was given four weeks leave from work with pay, which he was not entitled to, to campaign in the general elections.

He said he gave Augustus time to build his party and he never had a problem with that.

"We parted company based on his obscene behaviour," Warner said.

"He (Augustus) telling me that he from behind the bridge as though that is some claim to fame, well I am from under the bridge," slammed Warner.

Warner said he does not have any intention of sacking other COP members who work for him as long as they do their jobs.

"I have never spoken to Mr (Ken) Emrith or Mr (Felix) Hernandez as yet about firing them and I don't see how that arises, I say to these guys if you do your work, then fine."

Emrith is the manager of the Centre of Excellence and Hernandez is in charge of security.

Both are senior COP members.

Warner said some of his employees who are devoted to the COP abused the company's resources in the election race.

He said the chief security officer of the Centre of Excellence used the company's car to transport COP supporters to vote on election day.

A senior COP member confirmed last night the verbal assault by Augustus but said he was provoked.

"Roy did tell off Warner but he did so after receiving a very nasty e-mail," said the COP member who did not wish to named.

"Roy is not the kind of person to just curse somebody so, Warner was very nasty in his e-mail," he continued.

He added that the people should not be fooled and think that Warner was "silent like a lamb".

The Express tried to contact Augustus yesterday but calls to his cell phone (a company mobile unit) went unanswered.

Jack's COP employees fearful after 'firing'

Devoted members of the Congress of the People (COP), who are also employees of United National Congress Alliance co-leader Jack Warner, are said to be in fear of losing their jobs.

The Express has learnt that these employees are uneasy following an episode between Warner and COP chairman Roy Augustus which resulted in the departure of Augustus as deputy chief executive officer of CONCACAF on Monday.

The Express tried to contact both Augustus and Warner yesterday but several calls to their numbers went unanswered.

It is not clear whether Augustus was fired or if he walked off the job.

Warner on Monday told the Express that he was in New York on business and questions should be directed to Augustus. He said he will speak on the issue at a later time as he was in a meeting, however, when the Express tried to contact him again, Warner could not be reached.

Sources informed the Express that following Augustus's departure from the Warner Group of Companies, other employees who are affiliated with the COP have become uneasy.

Warner is the boss of other COP supporters such as Ken Emrith and Felix Hernandez.

Warner had previously told the media that a number of people working under him have allegiance to other political parties, but said he was not the kind of person to threaten their jobs.

COP member Gary Griffith told the Express yesterday that Warner needs to come clean and state whether he has a problem with COP supporters working for him.

Griffith said if Warner is not satisfied with these people's performance, including Augustus, then something is wrong because they are all hard-working employees.

Carlos Edwards and Andy Cole will return from injury in Sunderland's reserves game against Wolviston tonight.

Roy Keane has confirmed that he plans to give each a 60-minute run-out in the Newton Moor Durham County Challenge Cup game at the Eppleton CW ground in Hetton (7.30pm).

Cole is yet to feature for Sunderland after suffering a calf injury early in his Black Cats career, while Edwards has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the first week of the campaign.

If all goes well, they have an outside chance of featuring in Saturday's Wear-Tyne derby at the Stadium of Light.

Keane said: "Carlos and Coley will look to have an hour, it's a chance for them to get a run-out. If they get through it unscathed, maybe they can feature on Saturday, we'll wait and see."

Dean Whitehead is back in training but he is not yet ready for a full-scale game. The skipper could make his comeback when Sunderland go to Falkirk for a testimonial game a week on Thursday.

*Tonight's fixture is a second-round tie and must be decided on the night. Wolviston play in the Wearside League.

T&TFF president tells Warriors: Contact us, we'll listen.

Blacklist ruins Wim's Gold Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Wim Rijsbergen said his plans for the June 6-24 CONCACAF Gold Cup have been ruined by the T&T Football Federation's blacklisting of players who represented this country at the 2006 World Cup. But the Dutchman might get a late reprieve which could work in his favour.
T&FFF president Oliver Camps seemed to be handing out an olive branch which may yet resolve the impasse between the players and the Federation, which began ten months ago over the distribution of revenue generated by the Soca Warriors' qualification for the World Cup.
Dissatisfied with their allocation, the players threatened to take legal action, resulting in the T&TFF not selecting those involved in the dispute for next month's Gold Cup.
Contacted yesterday, Camps said: "Once they come to us, we are willing to hear them," adding that the Federation was willing to find a solution to the dispute.
In the interim, Rijsbergen has named a 24-man squad made up mainly of locally-based T&T Pro League players due to the unavailability of the foreign-based professionals who played in last year's World Cup.
At Monday's training session at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Rijsbergen announced a local line-up after realising that invited pros Carlos Edwards, Jason Scotland, Clayton Ince and Dennis Lawrence had apparently withdrawn from the national squad in support of their teammates who are under the T&TFF ban.
Rijsbergen said the impasse has been a frustration to his plans.
"My plans were already ruined when they, of course, are still talking about blacklist.," Rijsbergen stated. "And, of course, it has influenced the boys that are not here. As I said before, it is not a good situation because we want to go there with the best team."
Rijsbergen is also skeptical whether the situation can be resolved in time for the tournament.
He said that had the four invited pros been interested in playing in the Gold Cup, they would have presented themselves by 12.30 p.m. on Monday when the team went into camp at Crowne Plaza Hotel. Asked if there is still a chance for the World Cup players to rejoin the team if there is a last-minute resolution before they leave for the Gold Cup on June 1, Rijsbergen said he was unsure.
"That's not up to me. If we start training now and most of the guys are on vacation and all of a sudden they will change the situation, I don't know if we can still bring guys back in," he said.
"At the moment, I think most of these guys, if they had the chance, they should be here...at least the guys who were on the list. But, they stick together with the rest. Of course, it's up to them," said Rijsbergen.
The Dutch coach said they have picked the best of the players they have seen in the Pro League and will work with them. Several of the players in the team have international experience, although many have not played at the level of the Gold Cup.
Among the experienced players are Densill Theobald, the lone World Cup player in the squad, and Silvio Spann, who was also involved in the World Cup qualifying campaign. Strikers Gary Glasgow and Errol McFarlane Junior have played several major internationals, while stopper Keyeno Thomas has also represented T&T several times.
Rijsbergen's squad also includes several players who were on the national team earlier this year in the Digicel Caribbean Cup and recent tour of Panama and Costa Rica such as Kerry Baptiste, Dwayne Jack, Seon Power and Kerwyn Jemmott.
The coach said he will give the local guys all of his support.
"This will be a whole team of guys playing here and let's see what we can do with them. Maybe, they will surprise me too. Of course, we will work hard and that's what we did in the Digicel Cup."

Coach Wim Rijsbergen has admitted that he has no control over the pool of players he can choose from for the June 6-24 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Dutchman said as much, from Jamaica, in a telephone interview when naming an incomplete training squad late last week.

Rijsbergen said he can only use the players made available to him by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (T&TFF).

"I only have to wait and hear what is going on," he said. "We have a difference of opinion between the two sides, and we the technical staff just have to wait and see what is happening. I hope they can come to a solution soon."

A Britain-based Soca Warrior, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, said he feels for the Dutch coach,

"I'm sorry for him because he knows the players he wants, and would like to have the best team. But, the T&TFF are making it difficult for him to do his job properly. After playing in a FIFA World Cup, how good can it be for us to go to the Gold Cup with a weakened team and perform badly? It will embarrass the entire country."

PLAYERS KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO

http://www.stjohnstonefc.co.uk/newsitem.asp?NewsID=2078

27 APRIL 2007

So it all comes down to the final day of the season and Saints players know what they have to do. Only a win in front of 3,100 travelling Saints fans at New Douglas Park will suffice and if that can be achieved then the result in Dingwall will be all-important.

Owen Coyle played it low-key this afternoon saying, “The destiny of the title is very much in Gretna’s hands. They have led the league for a long time and if they win tomorrow then they deserve it. All we can do is win our game and see what happens.”

The Manager revealed that Kevin James did a light training session at the stadium this morning and may come into contention for tomorrow’s match. Other than that the squad is along familiar lines with Allan McManus sitting out the last game of his three game ban. Goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert should be in his usual place despite feeling the effects of a groin strain.

The Manager finished by saying “It has been a good season for the club whatever the outcome tomorrow and I just hope that the players get the reward they deserve for their efforts. We have never made extravagant claims about what we can achieve this season and we just wait and see what tomorrow’s games bring.”

TTFF recognises its top performers for 2006.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

Recently appointed National Olympic team assistant coach Michael McComie was adjudged the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation’s “Coach of the Year” for 2006 and vibrant National Under 17 midfielder Leston Paul was named the Young “Player of the Year” at the Federation’s annual awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza on Sunday.
McComie, who led Joe Public to the 2006 T&T Pro League title also collected the “Team of the Year” award on behalf of the “Eastern Lions” as several of the top performers were recognized by the TTFF. Sunderland and former T&T captain Dwight Yorke, named the 2006 “Player of the Year” had his brother Brent receive the award on his behalf.
One of the notable honours made on the day was the one to veteran administrator and coach Vernon Bain who the TTFF paid tribute to for 51 years of service as a General Council member. The TTFF and special adviser Jack Warner, who noted that Bain was responsible for influencing him to become an official with the TTFF, presented the long standing server with a cheque valued at $25,000.
In his address, President Oliver Camps offered congratulations and warm appreciation for those who contributed to the year’s successful completion and undoubtedly most successful on the international stage with the representation made by the “Soca Warriors” at the 2006 World Cup.
“The pursuit of excellence by all those who have made contributions and the superior performances of the awardees are both vital ingredients in inspiring the generations of younger players to persevere in the continuous improvement of their football,” Camps said. “As a platform for producing a continuous supply of such excellence on the field, the Federation has now introduced a new Development programme. Its main objective is to have the coaches at all levels of the game in the country, from our Primary Schools and other existing junior coaching programmes to the Professional League, adequately equipped and properly qualified,” added the former National Team manager of 1973 and 1989.
As Terry Joseph, member of the local organizing committee for Germany 2006 gave a colourful and detailed “Reflection” of the highlights of the TTFF for 2006, Rhonda Lee Yhapp, acting manager of events and sponsorship for main sponsors TSTT, said that her company was committed to supporting the Federation and its Super League.
“TSTT’s three year sponsorship should remove any doubt that we are committed to the players and the sport,” Lee Yhapp said, adding that TSTT’s support of the Super League  should be used by players to improve their all round skills, allowing her company to also connect with the people and clubs from diverse communities.
“The Soca Warriors have carved the road map. It is up to the Super Leagues to use this moment to keep the dream alive for 2010. In 2006 we at TSTT understood the value of the sport when we placed over three million dollars towards the World Cup campaign. We are pleased to announce that we have extended the contract of the TTFF through to November 2008,” said Lee Yhapp, adding that the contract includes support for products… the Soca Warriors and the football administrators.
Police FC and WASA FC also received their silverware and prize money for taking the 2006 Super League and FA Trophy titles while Angostura 1976 Phoenix FC took the Super League knockout prize. Other notable awardees were “Male Referee of the Year” Neil Brizan and Shane De Silva as “Female Referee of the Year”, assistant referees of the year – Joseph Taylor (male) and Cindy Mohammed (female),  Administrator of the Year – Roland Forde, president of the Northern FA, Regional Association of the Year – Eastern FA as well as Female Player of the Year for both senior and junior Ayana Russell. The Super League MVP and topscorer awards went to Dominic Kerr while Darin Lewis was named the FA Trophy “MVP” and Kendall Jagdeosingh got the topscorer award.

Connection win Pro League opener.
By: Ian Prescott (Express).

Defence Force looked possibly their sharpest in three years, yet still suffered a comprehensive 4-1 loss to Vibe CT 105 W Connection in their T&T Pro League opener at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday.
Defending champions Joe Public had a less impressive start to 2007, as they were held to a 2-2 draw by United Petrotrin in the late match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.
At the HC Stadium, a few hundred fans were on hand to witness a match which turned dramatically in the second period, after a 0-0 half-time scoreline. Earl Jean found the net twice and Brazilians Gefferson Goulart and Jose Luis Seabra once each to earn victory for the "Savonetta Boys".
Bevon Lewis grabbed Defence Force's consolation in injury time, rifling a bullet past national custodian Jan Michael Williams, following a solo run. It was not nearly enough to rob Connection of full points in their first match.
For all their enterprise, Defence Force had just a handful of chances in the first half. Midfielder Ronald Boyce should have done better for the "Army", but turned his shot overbar in the 21st minute, while Christian Baptiste also stung Williams' fingers with a rasping free kick seven minutes later.
In between those efforts, Ronaldo Viana missed a great chance for Connection to go ahead. He intercepted defender Devon Jordan's backward header, but could not beat goalie Kevin Graham.
Connection went ahead in the 55th, though, Jean scoring from the penalty spot after fellow striker Andre Toussaint was cut down by Boyce. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of Defence Force's defence, and their opponents capitalised.
Jean got his second in the 70th from a simple tap-in of a Goulart short pass into an empty net. Graham was caught out by a long punt from Douglas Da Costa-Connection's lastest Brazilian find at right back-which he forced onto the crossbar and unfortunately back into the paths of a bunch of Connection players bearing down on goal.
Goulart (83rd) and Seabra (87th) both tapped home from close range to round off Connection's scoring. Lewis then produced the goal of the match for Defence Force, but by then it was a case of too little, too late.
Tobago United lose again.
By: DR.

Tobago United failed yet again to gain their first League win, as the new season opened at Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. A well taken second half hat trick by Kendall Jagdeosingh proved to be their undoing.
The whipping boys of the Pro league showed early signs of their defensive frailties with some shambolic defending. It wasn’t long before Jerome was first to respond to a deflected ball in the box, leaving Adams in his wake to slot home past the goalkeeper. The nervy opening continued as the goalkeeper stepped out his box with the ball, offering Stars with a great opportunity in the “D”. James has to leave the field with a head wound. The resulting kick taken upon the resumption of play, by A. Wolfe went tamely over the bars.
The game finally settled in to an evenly contested period. Tobago United came close to scoring when McKenna shot straight at the keeper from the apex of the 6 yards box in the 24th minute. Soon afterwards, McKenna again forced a save by Phillips from just about the penalty spot. In the closing seconds of the half, a counter-attack in which United had numerical advantage came to naught as Woodley shot weakly from the edge of the box as the whistle sounded. 1 – 0 to Economy Northeast Stars. The game had become very open and held great promise for the second half.
The second half began as the first with Stars controlling the proceedings. One minute of “madness” by Adams – the United’s skipper turned the game on its head. Navarro made a forward pass to Jerome. Adams rushed in out of control as Jerome dummied the ball springing Jagdeosingh free through the heart of United’s defense to slam the ball high into the net. Immediately after the restart Adams rushed in with a reckless two footed tackle that referee Alleyne gave him his marching orders.
United responded by introducing P. Joseph as a replacement for Smith in an effort to reorganize the team. Stars withdrew Guevara and sent in Ramlogan on 70 minutes. Stars were now reveling in the extra space against a now discouraged United. Chances were coming fast and furious. Jagdeosingh picked up a ball on the left side, twisting, turning and speeding past seemingly stationary defenders. He cut back inside to fire high into the net again, this time with his right foot. 3 – 0.
Jaggy got his hat trick seven minutes from time. The full back Leslie dribbled down the right flank and sent his cross just beyond the far post to a free Velox who nodded it down for Jaggy to roll it past the keeper. Tobago United got their consolation item  in the 86th minute. From a free kick in the “D”, the ball was played in to Woodley who laid it on for Manswell to curl his shot into the top corner well out of the reach of the Stars’ custodian.

Economy N.E. Stars:

Defending League champions B Mobile Joe Public were held to a 2-2 draw by a young but determined United Petrotrin outfit in their first game of the 2007 season at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Saturday.
Playing in the second game of an opening day double header Joe Public was almost stunned in the second minute of play but Petrotrin’s Abiola Clarence’s header was brilliantly saved by Alejandro Figueroa in the goal for Joe Public.
After this early escape Public settled down and began to show the form of a true champion controlling the game. Their reluctance to shoot from distance though prevented them from translating this dominance in play to dominance on the scorecard.
All this would change in the 24th minute when newly signed Guyanese Gregory Richardson would score after a series of short passes in the box which left him with the simple task of tapping the ball pass Petrotrin’s goalkeeper Perry Martin and this he did with immaculate ease to give Joe Public a 1-0 lead.
Public continued to dominate the game and thought they had doubled their advantage three minutes later, when new signing Kerry Baptiste slot the ball into the back of the net, but the effort was ruled offside by the referee’s assistant.
This did not seem to bother the Public team as they launched attack after attack on the Petrotrin goal who to their credit did not break down, but with stood the barrage and mounted a few raids of their, own and it was on one of these raids Public and National defender Seon Power brought down Abiola Clarence at the edge of the 18 yard box. Up stepped Petrotrin’s playmaker and Man of the Match Keon Daniel to calmly curl the ball over the wall and into the back of the net to tie up the scores in the 43rd minute.
The score remained 1-1 to the half and all of the fans at Larry Gomes stadium were expecting a cracker of a second half.
The start of the second half lived up to the good crowd on hand expectations for a minute had not gone in the second half when Joe Public’s Seon Power capped a man in the midfield and ran at the heart of the United defence, but his long range effort went just wide.
New National Captain Gary Glasgow finally got his name on the scorecard when he turned in a right-sided corner from Kerry Baptiste in the 52nd minute to give Joe Public a 2-1 lead.
Joe Public seemed to become very comfortable with this lead and settled for maintaining ball possession, but were made to pay dearly for this in the 57th minute, Seon Power again committed a foul on top of the 18 yard box and this time Sylvester Teesdale headed the resulting freekick home to bring his team level for the second time in the match, 2-2 and game on. The expecting fireworks did not materialize, as both teams seemed unwilling to go on all out attack in search of a possible winner and they played very conservative football.
The flamboyant Arnold Dwarika came on in the 72nd minute for Gary Glasgow but not even the deadlocked maestro could find a winner and in the end the game finished in a tame draw.
Coach Brain Williams would be happy to have caged the Lions and come away with a point, but the new Joe Public coaching staff would be left ruing their teams missed chances.

Joe Public:
Alejandro Figueroa, Terrance Mc Allister, Anthony Noreiga, Carey Harris, Dale Saunder (capt), Gary Glasgow (Arnold Dwarika), Abassi Mc Pherson, Kerry Baptiste (Sean Cooper), Seon Power, Gregory Richardson, Dexter Thornhill.

Caledonia bury 10-man Jabloteh in season opener.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

A scintillating opening performance by the Neal and Massy sponsored Caledonia AIA against local powerhouse CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh ended 3-0 in favor of the ‘Stallions’ in the first match of a double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
The Jamal Shabazz coached team savored the Pro League opening fixture against the ‘San Juan Kings’ scoring their three items before the end of the first period with Guyanese striker Nigel Codrington netting the opener in front of a heavy crowd of supporters.
Unfortunately for Jabloteh the afternoon started off on a bad foot when newly signed Antiguan striker Peter Byers 2nd minute goal was ruled offside. Buyers slammed the ball past goalkeeper Michael Woods and into the roof of the net from inside the area, but the assistant referee flag was up.
The game was played at a frantic pace and Caledonia was quick to respond 2 minutes later Nigel Codrington netted the opening goal. Veteran midfielder Marvin Oliver playing his first match for the ‘Stallions’ was the provider. Oliver’s through ball sent Codrington goal wards when the striker easily lofted the ball past goalkeeper Cleon John from on top of the area to put his team 1-0 up.
Caledonia continued to build as striker Dwight Peters made some blistering runs forward to the dislike of the shaky Jabloteh defence.
On the other end it was the flighty Jabloteh midfielder Jason Marcano who created room for himself in the 14th minute on top of the Caledonia area only to clip his effort wide of the far post.
By the quarter hour mark Caledonia made it two. In the 16th minute Codrington became provider when his flick-on sent Peters through a still standing Jabloteh backline, and he volleyed the ball past goalkeeper John for the 2-0 advantage in favor of Caledonia.
Dwight Peters was on the prowl again in the 21st minute when he broke into the Jabloteh area only to be denied a shot on goal at the edge of the six-yard area by big defender Ronald Primus.
It then turned from bad to worst for the Terry Fenwick, his Antiguan striker Peter Byers was sent off on the half hour mark receiving a straight red card for elbowing defender Charles Pollard
It was then double trouble for the 2007 Lucozade Sport Big Six Champions as Caledonia’s Marvin Oliver, Kareem Joseph and Stephan David used the Jabloteh loss to their advantage.
In the 32nd minute Kareem Joseph lost out on a golden opportunity at the far post when he tapped Leslie Holligan’s right sided cross wide.
One minute later Caledonia registered the ‘coffin nailer’ to wrap up their scoring in the first period. Stephan David from inside the area rifled the ball past goalkeeper Cleon John who was literally left out to dry by his defence as Caledonia took a 3-0 scoreline to the dressing rooms at the half.
On the resumption the miserable afternoon continued for the ‘San Juan Kings’ but fortunately for them they didn’t conceded any more goals.
A diving header by Caledonia’s Kareem Joseph spilled wide from a Dwight Peters cross ball in the 50th minute.
In the 61st minute Jabloteh’s World Cup midfielder Aurtis Whitley who wasn’t more than a shadow in the first period managed a goal mouth opportunity, but his effort smashed wide under the heavy challenge from Caledonia’s captain and inspirational defender Sheldon Emmanuel.
Jabloteh had another attempt in the 67th minute when midfielder Jason Marcano 22 yard effort rebounded off goalkeeper Woods’ chest before he gathered it safely.
The ‘San Juan Kings’ failed to capitalize on a rare free kick at the edge of the Caledonia area as defenders Pollard and Emmanuel made certain of a clean record at the back while man of the Match
Marvin Oliver and others terrorized the midfield.
Goal keeper Michael Woods had also done his part keeping a clean sheet for the ‘Stallions’ when he came up well to deny Marcano’s volley from outside his area in the 78th minute.
In the dying moments of the exciting encounter both Caledonia and Jabloteh squandered efforts. Goal scorer Nigel Codrington was beaten to the ball in side the Jabloteh area by goal keeper John after making a strong run and on the other end Jabloteh’s Cyd Gray headed over bar from close range as the match ended 3-0 in favor of the ‘Stallions’.

Rangers hammer newcomers Police 4-1.
By: Vinod Narwani (ttproleague).

Superstar Rangers FC showed their dominance over TT Pro League debutants Police FC in their opening clash of the 2007 season at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday night.
The St. Ann’s based-club, playing in their second season at the top flight, had to overcome a minor obstacle in the form of a 1-0 lead by the Lawmen, before demolishing the newcomers with a combination of determination, experience and flair.
Rangers started off positively in front of an appreciative crowd by testing Police custodian Ryan Edwards in the 2nd minute of play.
Following an infringement just outside the box by the Lawmen, Rangers were awarded a free kick which star player Kerwin Jemmott hit straight at Edwards.
Even though the goalkeeper comfortably took it, it was a sign that the men in red and blue were going all out to make things difficult for Police.
Rangers skipper Errol Mc Farlene then tried to get his side on the score sheet by slotting a decent ball to Christon Thomas on the left in the 11th minute, only for Thomas to hit it tamely and off-target.
The fans were, however, given a surprise when the Lawmen drew first blood in the 18th minute courtesy Kenwin Matthew.
There was a solid build up which led to captain Neri Joseph distributing the ball to Curt Danclair on the left flank, his floating pass finding the head of Matthew for the opening item.
But Rangers hit back four minutes before the half-time whistle following a corner, resulting in Jemmott ballooning a teaser across the goal-mouth for Devon Modeste to head home the equalizer.
Rangers kept pressing for the lead and were rewarded for their efforts in the 53rd minute, Marc Borde slotting home after the ball was flicked to him, following a well-taken corner kick.
The night was not over for the St. Ann’s lads as was shown by their captain who had a major hand in the remaining two items to follow.
Mc Farlene banged a powerful header straight to the Police custodian, but his point blank save ricocheted towards hungry substitute Shem McFarlene who slammed home Rangers’ insurance item in the 76th minute. It was 3-1 at that stage.
The Rangers skipper then scored the goal of the night three minutes later to justify why he deserved the man-of-the-match award.
Standing inside the box, Mc Farlene received a ball and with the simplest of ease back-heeled a flick towards the far corner to the delight of everyone.
Not only was the keeper bemused, the players, officials and fans had lots to talk about after such a display by the men from St. Ann’s.

Peltier & Guerra join Portsmouth.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh midfielders Lester Peltier and Atullah Guerra left Trinidad on Sunday to pick up four year contracts offered to them by English Premiership Club Portsmouth.
According to head coach Terry Fenwick of the Pro League Club, his players Lester Peltier, Atullah Guerra and also Khaleem Hyland left on Sunday night and already had a session with the Premiership Club on Tuesday morning.
“The response by Portsmouth is positive. The guys have trained on Tuesday morning with the team while Peltier and Guerra are just awaiting their work permits to pull through. As for now I can say that their work permits will come through soon,” said the former England player.
As for Kaleem Hyland another Jabloteh youth player making the trip, Fenwick said, “We are hoping to receive good news on Hyland very soon. He accompanied Lester and Guerra and would join Portsmouth on trial, but I am certain things would go well for him also,” ended the Jabloteh Coach.
Peltier returned to Trinidad late last month after spending five weeks in England creating waves having stints with Premiership Giants Arsenal, Cardiff City, Millwall FC and Portsmouth where he only spent two days.
Speaking with ‘ttproleague.com’ last week during a Jabloteh training session, Peltier said, “My time on trial with Portsmouth was short. I had only spent two days with the Club while in England so I can’t say much. I had been exposed to their players and already I can tell that this is my time to grab this opportunity.”
“I am young and I know I am the future of the English Club,” ended a delighted Trinidad and Tobago under-20 attacking midfielder.
Englishmen Steven Davies and Paul Mohamed of DMC Sports had been in Trinidad and Tobago last month negotiating on behalf of Portsmouth with San Juan Jabloteh’s chairman Jerry Hospedales and Vice-chairman Wilfred Espinet on the deals offered to the Club as well as players. Both Davies and Mohamed left Trinidad and Tobago two weeks ago after witnessing the first ever Clico Cup put on by CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in Tobago.
