I also think Leo should rotate the goalkeepers Hislop & Jack like Klinsamann did with Oliver Kahn & Jen Lehman, one man start one game and the other start the next. He thought this would increase competition as no one would feel they own the # 1 shirt.

1082
Jason Scotland must have been working his ass in training as it seems he might get a starting position in front of Glen. I'm glad to see that there is some nice competition for a starting role in the forward positions. Glen to me was in good form from the MLS games I saw so that should mean Scotland playing like hell.

1083
I'm getting rather concerned over Marivn Andrews, he can't possible keep putting heavy ice-packs on his knee regularly, no wonder Alex McLiesh is so concerned. Rangers went out and bought two defenders so I hope Dog comes out this tournament not too fatigued or injured. I know we all want to see Marvin play in next season's Champions League.

These supposed football fans making up 80% of our population

They sitting or trying to stay an emotionally safe distance from the team. All they waiting for is the team to flop up for them to say.........see me breds not me again I learn my lesson already in 89.

But anytime we win the flicking Gold Cup or buss USA arse they runnin to the stadium and bawling..........boy I following this side long time, is since 89 I with this team.

Totally agree with you. In '89 i was nine years old, I remember crying for the whole evening. Nowadays I literally have to beg some friends of mine to go to the games, is always some shit excuse, 'the money too much', 'they going to lose anyway', 'we ain't going nowhere, remember '89'. The media have some responsibility also to help generate some hype around the team and T&T need to change our mentality a bit, sometimes you see England lose a game or draw with a 'minnow', the public & media lambast them but every man Jack back out to support them for the next match. I'm getting a good vibe from back home so I think people paying a bit more attention to the team, once we get some good results and the public see the effort the team putting in, supporters will come back out but sometimes you wonder if it might be too little too late.

i might be still hungover but that only 10 men they boss

Talking about being hungover, last night drinking with some Dutch nationals, those guys following the progress of the team closely and was able to name a few players from the squad, Edwards, Andrews, Stern and Birchall got special mention. What got me mad though is that they knew we have a game tomorrow and some of my brethrens back home not even aware that the Gold Cup starts tomorrow, they are 'supposed' football fans but only talking about whehter Robihno going to Real or who Chelsea will sign next. That's a sin a my book.

Now Yakubu get tru with he permit, I glad for him but whoever he lawyers or agents are, they should help out Scotland.

ESPN SOCCERNET

Yakubu's case was a bit different as they expected him to to be refused the initial request and win the appeal. Jason Scotland lost his appeal I believe. Yakubu also didn't make the the 75% international appearance requirement for Nigeria for disciplinary reasons and of course Yakubu finished as one of the leading scorers in the Prem. We all hope Scotland's decision is overturned though

Football / Re: whatever happened to Seabra?
« on: July 04, 2005, 09:20:35 AM »

My friend (and Jayerson as well)...Freddy Adu's mother won the lottery and got her citizenship and kerron Clemen't's mother had american citizenship. If either was the case for Seabra, he would play. I don't understand how you can say the laws regarding citizenship are pre-historic in our country compared to others. I in the states 6 years, i not eligible to play for the US(or even work here legally) because i have no family ties. same with seabra...so how their laws more davanced than others? Besides, the States and the UK are economically more developed and able to handle the influx of immigrants...Trinidad is not. Contrary to popular belief, we are still a third world country and for all the oil money we supposed to have a recent report state that more than half the country under the poverty level. Stop thinking like a fan coz this goes beyond the boundary.

Spideybuff, probably because you're in the U.S for so long you don't know of the brain drain going on in Trinidad, in the last 6 months I've had four friends and a sister who left T&T to live & work elsewhere, each having at least a degree and some with MBAs. Most got work permits and residential status for their destination without leaving the country or just after one trip, brain drain is a real problem in T&T moreso than in the past. My point was for national interest, and in a number of times the U.S MNT has gotten players to become citizens with absolutely no ties to the country, I remember there was one French guy (at least French speaking) that could barely speak English and didn't have an American wife and got his passport and was playing for them. Essentially the point that I was making is that there must be a facility to make 'excpetions' under the 'guise' (if you ant to call it that) of national interest. It is obvious to anyone that's aware of the situation in T&T to realise not every Tom, Dick & Harrypersad can come in and get residential and citizenship status, that would be down right silly, however there must be a facility where for the benefit of the wider community and national good there is a fast track for the above mentioned to transpire. The argument is not for Seabra, I can't vouch for his quality but if there was a player of really good, also, I also spoke of allowing persons with a Trini grandparents being granted citizenship. We are a third world country a you pointed out but in a rapidly shrinking global economy tweaking some of the laws, most of which are outdated are a pre-requisite for attaining vision 2020.

« on: July 01, 2005, 09:46:17 AM »
I'm always a bit worried when we have more than one Trini on the same team. Managers seem to like to give our players a difficult time when they need to get released for international duty, when they have two players to release it will be even more pressure. Sam & Birchall will be in the same boat. Seeing that CONCACAF WCQ are not in-sinc with Euro WCQ I hope we don't get any problems with getting John & Ince because Ince will be back. Glad he's at a bigger club. Now its for Shaka to organise his business because I'm reading that Ipswich has denied making any approaches for him while Shaka is saying they did.

Hugo Sanchez is an ass.

Not only is he an ass, he's a stupid ass. Arsene Wenger mostly played as an amateur in France's 3rd division and had one season in France's top-flight with Strasbourg where he played 4 games in total, all as a sub, he realised he wasn't good enough to play pro ball and went ahead and completed a Masters Degree in Economics. In short Wenger was shit, he wasn't any winner, however he's one of the worlds most intelligent coaches and has a winning mentality. To me La Volpe played to his teams strenghts and they played attacking and attractive football. They beat Brazil and went toe-toe with the hosts Germany both who were finalists in the last WC.

I will be in Grenada and St Vincent for most of the tournament. I don't think they have GOL TV on their cable. Allyuh think they'll show the T&T and Jamaica games ? I know that is cricket country.

I'm in Curacao and there is a Jamaican based station called Sports Max that is bringing the games, they show cricket and everything, I'm not sure if Grenada & St. Vincent gets that station but its a possiblility.

Yorke's & Jordan's son Harvey, is blind, shows signs of autism, has a hormone imbalance which has resulted in him being the size of an 11 year old even though he barely eats. It's a very sad story and you can check it out on this link   http://www.sky.com/showbiz/article/0,,50001-1178937,00.html

Yorke ready to end career down under

Dwight Yorke revealed he is ready to end his career in Australia on the day he officially signed for new club Sydney FC.
The former Manchester United, Aston Villa, Blackburn and Birmingham striker is Sydney's marquee player, with rules for the inaugural A-League allowing the eight clubs to sign one star name above the salary cap of £600,000.

The 33-year-old, who jetted in yesterday a day late following problems with his baggage, has been given a car and accommodation as part of his package.

But Yorke, who has signed a two-year deal with an option for a third season, has suggested he may quit football when his current contract expires.

'There is a possibility that I may come to a decision that I don't want to be playing football anymore after the next two years,' revealed Yorke, who also made it clear his move down under was not about money.

'This is certainly not a money-orientated move because I could have gone to the Far East if I was thinking about money - no disrespect to Sydney.'

what makes T&T anymore special.
Every country is entitled to adjust their laws to suit whatever they want, look Canada just yesterday approved Gay marriage does that make it right, would you like to adjust our laws to suit that?and by the way WE ARE SPECIAL.

Bro, I meant special in the context of Immigration laws, gay marriages & morality has nothing to with Immigration Laws & Sports, you're taking my comment and taking out of context like a London Tabloid. But what the hell, gay marriages are now legal in Canada. If I didn't think Trinidad was special I would have migrated to Britain like a lot of my relatives.

Jayerson.....why open up a can of worms for an average squad player?

It doesnt seem to be in the "National Interest" now does it.

I would concede that Seabra isn't anything special, no one can claim he is however if the situation was to arise that someone of quality was to come along then we'd be in the same situation, I wasn't making the point for Seabra, I was making the point about the situation. I saw his game against Azerbaijan, he looked ordinary and I didn't know what all the hoopla was about but my opinion is that the rules are outdated. His situation wasn't all I was commenting about, I think if you have a Trini Grandparent you should be able to play for Trinidad and that is not the case. Based on form, wouldn't Nathan Ellington be able to make the T&T team?

Football / Re: whatever happened to Seabra?
« on: June 30, 2005, 09:07:24 AM »
If we allow Seabra citizenship just to play after being here 5 years, how can we then deny every grenadian, vincentian, venezuelan and guyanese who in the country already citizenship just to ply their trade on the street corner? We can't..it becomes illegal.

Americans have some of the toughest immigration laws, yet if it is in 'National Interest' they make exceptions and so can we. Also, my parents and older sister are born VINCENTIANS , I'm a born Trini and they are Trini to the bone just as me. They've all made and continue to make a very valuable contribution to T&Tand much more than the average born citizen. Mexico, Germany, Angola, Portugal, Japan have Brazilians palying for them, the point I'm making is that the laws are inadequate, Seabra isn't Deco (Portugal), Kevin Kuranyi (Germany), Zihna Naelson (Mexico) but he can make a contribution to the team as he's a good player, he's not a Latapy but he can play and can match most of the players in our midfield. Also, my grandfather was born on Nesbit, Northumberland, England and thus I would be able to get a British passport with absolutely no problems, what makes T&T anymore special.

As I've said before on this forum, T&T laws regarding citizenship are border-line prehistoric. If it was the US or England he would have been allowed to play. Also most countries allow people to claim citizenship through granparents. Nathan Ellington of Wigan Athletic, who'll now be in the EPL has a Trini grandmother, he can't play for us because of those rules. I think Seabra is good enough to make the squad though, maybe not the starting 11 but good work ethic is probably the most important criteria for Leo.

Ah talking about scoring goals wit headers. Ah been watch Jared Borgetti fuh de past few years and fuh me he is number one. Ah doh get tuh consistently watch ah wide cross section of ball, so ah could be definitely  missing out on odda players. If so, leh meh know. De goal Borgetti score against Italy in WC 2002 was ah classic as far as headers go.

When I saw the title of the thread Jared Borgetti was the first name to come to mind. Alan Shearer of Newcastle, Duncan Ferguson of Everton and Patrick Kluivert are very good with their heads.

All I know is he better be working his tail off to impress Beenieman and make the Gold Cup Squad.  That can only help his case if he wants to lodge an appeal.

Good point, for his sake I hope he gets a run because the Gold Cup has some good teams in it and the standard would be very good.

Football / Re: JASON SCOTLAND

A new two-year contract with Dundee United was on the table waiting for him to sign but a panel of ex-players has told the Government he is not good enough to be allowed to play professionally here.

This is an insult to both the player and the club.  Several other Scottish clubs were waiting to sign him if United did not extend his contract.  Now he cannot play for any club in Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

This panel of ex-players, are any of them of note, do you know their names. Such statements seem a bit drastic, Scotland has more talent and potential than a lot of players in the SPL, potential doesn't win matches but he has shone on a few occasions and is a competitive player in SPL. In his last game on 28th May he had a good game against Celtic. I really cannot understand such a statement.

I've been checking the net all of last week but I didn't know Hislop turned them down. Celtic might not pay all the money Southampton asking for Niemi. Hislop for sure must have a few other options becuase he needs first team football and altough he's a quality keeper Covenrty aren't a bad team, so I do hope he has options, he's an intelligent man, I hope he has intelligent agents.

How did you find us.
- Your location now and T&T.
Currently in Curacao on a project, from Arouca

- Why did you choose that handle (name).
It's my name

- How long have you been following the Warriors football team.
As long as I remember

- Best memory as a Warriors supporter to date.
Gold Cup 2000 and beating Mexico 1 - 0 in the Oval

- What T&T school did you attend.
I attended Arima Gov't Secondary & Sixth Form Gov't (Polytechnic St. James)

- Favorite player (T&T and Global).
Marvin Andrews, Stern John & Thierry Henry

- Favorite country and club team.
England & ARSENAL

- Pick your best world & T&T eleven.
T&T 11 (current)
Hislop, Sancho, Andrews, Avery John, Lawrence, C. Edwards, Birchall, Fitzpatrick, Eve, John, Yorke (subs Glen, Jones, Whitley)

- Care to give someone or a player a shout-out.
Shout out to Alex Esmond Andrews, Tommy Ramjattan. Big up to Dwight Yorke for coming out of retirement and showing really good commitment to the cause.

- Are you a current or former player ? if so what team.
Played for Arima Secondary & Sixth Form Polytech in Seconady School League, of course they were both in the 2nd division.
I currently play for Willemstaad FC in Curacao.

- Feel free to be creative.
In Curacao there are no grassed football fields anywhere, because of the very hot climate where it might not rain for a few months, green grass, or any grass mind you is a luxury. Appreciate what we have in T&T.

I think Eve's experinece will be beneficial to the team.  I don't see him starting but I believe he can be effective as a sub.

I agree Eve's experience will be an asset, they're a lot of young players in the team and with the absence of Yorke a little experince might just be needed, other than Marvin Andrews and Stern John there aren't many players in the squad that can play a leadership role and his experience would be useful if not on the field certainly in the locker room. Also his deadball abilities is still very useful and could be useful especially if he comes on as a late sub. He has stepped up to the plate on numerous occasions for T&T in the past.

It took a week, but the Confederations Cup semifinalists are set - Brazil-Germany and Argentina-Mexico.

Fans in Canada can catch the games on CTV Sportsnet, here is the link for the schedule:

Common (triniman) Mexico, do the region proud.

* Biggest shock so far?..A black man playing for the nazis..and scoring..Hitler must be turning in his grave..hahahahaha..

Yes, it was a nice goal Gerald Asamoah scored for the Germans, he has been playing for the German team some years now and played three games for them in the last WC, however all as a substitute, I remember when they interviewed German football fans about his inclusion for the last WC, outwardly they said if he's good enough he should play it doesn't matter if he's black but you can see inwardly (in my opinion) a little hesitance. He's been living in Germany since age 12 and speaks fluent German, Ghana tried to get him to play for them but he gave them a 'Jloyd Samuel'.

Football / Re: Gold Cup recalls for Scotland, Eve, Spann.
« on: June 23, 2005, 02:39:18 PM »
Remember that this tournament is not just to continue improving as a team, but to also see other players who he has not yet seen for himself.  So I would not put too much stock in some peoples' omissions (aside from Ince of course, that is a drop!)

The thing is, if Cyd Gray, Spann, Samuel, Scotland and others perform is mas is the place cause men who was on the team before hadda get drop now.

I expect Angus to come with all guns blazing in the Gold Cup to try and regain a spot in the top 21.

I agree with you, I don't think that's it for Rojas & Fitzpatrick, they're descent players but Leo needs to look at a few guys who he has not seen. Angus Eve of course is a good man to have in the squad, even if he doesn't get much playing time his experience in these kind of tournaments may be important in the locker room and he make a difference coming on as a sub especially with free kicks and corners and he still seems hungry. He's been a good servant for T&T and still has a bit to offer.

I would love to see Glen & John upfornt, their different styles should compliment each other, I know Lawrence has had some good performances and he throughly deserve his place but my heart skipd a beat everytime I see an attacker with pace go in his direction. Glad to see Sancho back to full health and in the squad because he's a qulaity defender and my heart is a bit more at ease when compared to Lawrence. No shocking inclusions except CYD GRAY.

I get a lot of Mexican football here in Curacao, it is definitely a very good league. Certainly better than the SPL, Belgium and the lesser Euro league and I think it might be on par with the Argentine league, which is considered the best in South America. The Brazilian league is just barely short of a joke, corruption, players not being paid is very common in Brazil.

No one is as anti-American as I can be, last night on FSC they were showing the boot that scored 'The shot heard around the world' scored by Paul Caliguiri that propelled the Americans into the 1990 WC. I almost kicked the TV, putting that aside though we have to admit MLS is improving year after year, of course it cannot compete with EPL, La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga but it is a descent and improving league, barring Rangers & Celtic they will beat most MLS teams and outside the big guns in Holland & Portugal the same will apply. We also can learn a lot from the Americans, remember the were the best CONCACAF team last WC and were unlucky to loose against Germany, who eventually made the finals. When it comes to tactics and strategy the Americans have excellent thinkers and can overcome more skilled teams with great individuals. Something T&T must learn. As we on the topic of leagues, I get a lot of Mexican football here and I think it is a very under-rated league, they have real talent in Mexico and exciting and the 4 - 0 thrashing Chivas gave Boca Juniors is a testament to that.
