Dortmund weren't that much better than us. It was failrly even in the first half. In the second half Dortmund kept pressing for the equaliser and we got more nervous worrying about ttrying to keep the lead. We also created some chances (not many as we normally do), one from Gervinho in particular that he should have scored to go 2 - 0 up. It was a fair result. Szcezney made some big saves at the end when Dortmund were pushing for the go ahead.

Football / Re: Will Peter Crouch outscore Kenwyne Jones at Stoke City?
« on: September 09, 2011, 01:13:49 PM »
Crouch is miles ahead of Kenwynne in terms of technical ability but Stoke's game is based on power and physicality, none of those attributes Crouch possess. In fact Kenwyne is much better in the air than Crouch even though Crouch is taller. Which is where most of Stoke's game is based from. Also I believe (or probably hope) that Kenwyne can adapt to a more 'footballing' approach i.e. playing football on the ground than Crouch can adapt to playing those high balls and outmuscling men in the box approach

What does deze miles produce?

He can trap a ball without it going away to the opposition. Crounch can operate in tighter spaces with more ease than Kenwyne.

To hear these ole timers calling for the head of a coach, who has won all his competitive games without conceding a goal, it was downright sad. I could not believe it. Then again they've been preaching their old xenophobic idealogy for years. Harping on the fact that he's earning X-amount of $$. They expect performance and results. Lol. I've seen stylish and attractive football with flair from TnT in the past and you know what? We got no where of note with it. Don't get me wrong, Pfister has not proved anything by beating Bermuda or Bim, but in light of the fact we've missed two Gold Cups in a row, I'm content for now. Imagine one of them said Pfister should be fired forthwith. Wow.

Besides the hand flap and knee trap....Warner was feeding off the crowd.

Alyuh cyar remember the chest trap and then the harlem globetrotters move over the unrushing fwd.

What about the thing he did correctly...get down and make the save from a point blank...holding the ball too, instead of punching or parrying.

Let Pfister have his talk with him and let the coach make a decision. Who starts today will be a good indicator.

Don't forget Corneal is a bit of a xenaphobe. Once you are 'foreign' you have less of a slack for him. Think he's the only commentator that has nothing good to say about Birchall. I reached 7 minutes late for the game and missed Warner's first error when the ball hit his knee. So I was in the stadium wondering why the crowd was making a big deal everytime he got the ball. Well until he needlessly fumbled the ball to give away a corner. But that was the only error he made that I saw and I was about 7 minutes late.

Small Mag, a day before the game and they cannot confirm? When did you call? Sunday? These ppl real jokey. I need to know if I've got to duck out work early to go home to watch the game.

I just called

crazy stuff.. a total joke ... especially from the TTFF

Maybe if many of many of us called they would realise the importance/magnitude of the matter. Serious, if many of us call throughout the day some level of urgency would probably be created in their pysche.

Small Mag, I'm in the office and just tied up to go look up their number. What's their phone number?
Let everyone reading this thread call them.

Park Chu-young resembles a Wenger player but Arsenal fans may disagree
The forward was Asian Young Player of 2004 and impressed at Monaco but may have to do more to win over the Emirates

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/aug/30/park-chu-young-wenger-arsenal

"I had to choose between Lille and Arsenal," said Park Chu-young as he arrived home in South Korea on Monday for national team duty. "I wanted to choose without regret." Whether Arsène Wenger will say the same after signing the 26-year-old striker remains to be seen.

The fee is low, around £3m but is less a reflection of ability than a two-year military tour of duty that starts in 2013, though he may be able to join a police team instead in 2014. That deadline, a 2012 Olympic medal grants exemption, was why the player was increasingly desperate to leave Monaco after three years and why, with a deal almost done on Saturday, he dropped everything at Lille to head to London.

Park has been a huge star in his homeland since becoming Asian Young Player of 2004 and impressing for FC Seoul from 2005. Later, he suffered from injuries, loss of form and confidence – for a while one-on-ones became painful to watch. It was only after a move to Monaco in 2008 that he really started to develop into one of Asia's best strikers.

That accolade may not impress Arsenal fans and even his Asian fans don't expect Park to become an automatic starter anytime soon. The feeling was that after impressing on the Mediterranean, Park had earned the chance to play on a bigger stage and French champions Lille sounded about right. Arsenal interest was a surprise but every time the Daegu-born striker has had the chance to make the step to the next level, he has done so.

Twelve goals out of a total of 38 in Monaco's relegation season is a good return but although Park's finishing has improved, it remains erratic. Comparisons to Nikolas Bendtner end there however. The hard-working Korean offers much more technically than the Dane. At times, Monaco lamented the lack of a killer instinct – perhaps Lille would disagree – but will miss his vision, touch and awareness around the penalty area.

With an Arsenal squad stretched, Park brings versatility – he can play on the left or right but prefers the middle – and pace. A six-footer, he will adapt to the rigours of English football more quickly than Park Ji-sung or Lee Chung-yong. The South Korean captain takes a better free-kick than Theo Walcott as demonstrated against Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup. A good header of the ball with a good head on his shoulders (an IQ of 150) he has the look of a Wenger player, though again, that may not be what Arsenal fans currently want to hear.

With a pre-season tour of Asia and the addition of Ryo Miyaichi from Japan, the London club are suddenly active in the far eastern market. Despite the hype, most European teams receive little commercial boost from Asian players. This could be different. Arsenal can make Miyaichi a star at home but Park already is one.

It can't be too long before Arsenal credit cards (it is rarely about shirts) are a new must-have item in Seoul. Park now has to show he can earn similar status in London.

An IQ of 150. WTF!!! What he doing in football??? That's literally genius level.

Hyland is the first Trinidadian since Dwight Yorke to play in the Champions League with Russell Latapy also holding such distinction while at FC Porto.

No Shaun, Marvin Andrews played in the Champions League with Rangers!! In fact, they made the round of 16 and lost to Inter Milan.

Didn't Jerron Nixon also play in the champions League?

I think it was the UEFA Cup. I may be wrong.

Football / Re: Birchall, Hyland called up to T&T squad
« on: August 25, 2011, 09:01:38 AM »
The problem is Hyland and Birchall is kind of the same type of player, difference is Birch has a wicked shot. So I would take CrackerJACK Birch over Hyland in the defensive midfield role and put Tinto infront of him, worked well vs Mexico IMO. We can play with three strikers and put hyland in the LM position.

The backline is a mess wont even start to even try to go there lol.... without Samuel to solidfy that rb position we kinda compromised....  Been impressed with out goalie..

If you look at German tactics, the use over lapping defenders alot and depend on a solid defensive style of play without a playermaker... only recently we seen muller included to change thier style of play which has worked out for them.

Edwards as Lb is like meh.. he is our attacking winger and he does it well. Why change that when there is no one good enough to fit that role ? The rest is elementary.

One more thing, i dont like the idea of Jones been captain, edwards or birch should wear the armband. He is just to shy and not outspoken on the pitch.. he is very quiet when he plays for tnt.

I agree! Jones is not a good  choice as captain, but I suspect that was a political move to ensure his release.

Captain or no captain, Jones would have had to be released from his club. Its a FIFA date, there are no EPL or Championship games.

If Scotland and Sealy arent called up because of their form and lack of playing time then Birchall should be held to the same criteria. I dont agree with his call-up.

La Galaxy has played 25 games so far this season, Birchall has played in 19 of them and started 14 of them. He's 9th in terms of minutes on the field for the Galaxy. I don't think Sealy and Scotland can come anywhere close to those stats. And I think he has 1 goal for the season, probably more than them both combined. Lol.

Birchall, Hyland called up to T&T squad
By Ian Prescott (Express)

Story Created: Aug 24, 2011 at 12:45 AM ECT

Story Updated: Aug 24, 2011 at 12:45 AM ECT

UNITED STATES-based Chris Birchall and Belgium-based midfielder Khaleem Hyland are among 11 foreign-based footballers called up by Trinidad and Tobago's German head coach Otto Pfister for back-to-back 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

T&T host Bermuda on September 2, before travelling to Barbados for another qualifier five days later.

The first of the foreign-based players will begin to arrive in Trinidad on Sunday.

Trinidad and Tobago will be captained by Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones. Also called up is England-born York City midfielder Andre Boucard, who has six caps for T&T and last played against Iceland just prior to the 2006 World Cup finals.

Joining the national team is another Englishman, 22-year-old Jake Thompson, who is now playing minor league football with Kettering Town.

Veteran utility player Carlos Edwards, defender Ronald Primus, Lester "Corn Curls" Peltier, Keon Daniel, Julius James and Clyde Leon make up the rest of the foreign-based professionals.

England-born defender JLloyd Samuel has asked to be excused for Trinidad and Tobago's first two matches as he is currently in the process of securing a new club.

Following his team's 3-0 win over India in a friendly on Sunday, head coach Pfister was confident of having a strong team to face Bermuda.

"Next week we have a player camp and we work together," Pfister said on Sunday. "I now know who of the local boys I can use and who I cannot use. Football is a very easy game. I will collect the overseas players and we make two, three, four training sessions and we are ready for the next game."

And striker Stern John thinks that Trinidad and Tobago will be better prepared for Bermuda, who scored a shock 2-1 road victory over the Soca Warriors to start the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign. T&T advanced when winning the away leg 2-0 in Bermuda.

"I think the last time our team was not as strong as (the one) we have right now," said John. "We went into that game a bit over confident, a bit cocky, and we were defeated in Trinidad. We went to Bermuda and we had to grind out a result. And that is what football is about."

T&T FOREIGN-BASED PLAYERS CALLED UP:

Kenwyne Jones (Captain), Carlos Edwards, Andre Boucard, Khaleem Hyland, Chris Birchall, Jake Thompson, Ronald Primus, Lester Peltier, Keon Daniel, Julius James, Clyde Leon.

What school Ian Prescott went to allyuh, meh eh no scientist eh, but them names he spell they wrong and this printed on national newspapers, no wonder people in Penal and Toco does still wipe they ass with guardian paper...... this man getting paid allyuh... ?

Who de hell is, JLloyd (should be Jlloyd), Jake Thompson (should be Jake Thomson), Ronald Primus (should be Robert Primus).

Ronald Primus retire now, he robbing people in San Juan market....

I nearly choke to death early in the morning... :D

And England-born Jlloyd Samuel, as far as I know he was born in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago. Correct me if I'm wrong.
