This is kind of crazy. I was in two minds  to put this in the calypso post or football. Anyhow, here is Kitch, backed by the Late Great Fitzroy Coleman singing about Manchester's teams in 1956. Seeing that City is running away with the league and could possible win everything this year. And ManU struggling to keep up with them.

This is a song from 1956 that I can't find anywhere else so I decided to upload it here. The song is from early 1956 when City were FA Cup holders and United were league champions elect. It is unusual in it's glorification of both Manchester clubs but is from an era when Mancunians would often follow both teams, attending the game of whichever side was at home on a given Saturday. This is the earliest United song I know of (pre-dating the calypso by 2 years) and is probably one of City's earliest songs too. Lyrics below, apologies for any errors:

Football and footballers
In Manchester you'll find the headquarters
Football and footballers
In Manchester you'll find the headquarters
A wonderful performance is expected
From Manchester City and United
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

[Chorus]
Hooray, hoorah Johnstone* and Tommy Taylor
Hooray, hoorah three cheers for the city of Manchester

It's exactly 22 years ago
Manchester City put up their greatest show
Portsmouth was a strong rival
But they were beaten 2-1 in the cup final
Birmingham thought it was easy
But City beat them convincingly
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

Chorus

United's history I must relate
They won the cup in 1948
In '51 they held a title grip
By beating Arsenal to the championship
And in '56 you can see quite clear
They are champions again with 3 weeks to spare
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

Chorus

I raise my hat with hilarity
To managers McDowall* and Matt Busby
Their names must go down in history
For good management consistently
They've got the secret, they've got the brain
To put Manchester on top again
When speaking of good football
They can never beat Manchester at all

Chorus

General Discussion / University grads apply for municipal police jobs
« on: January 23, 2018, 11:55:00 PM »
http://www.guardian.co.tt/news/2018-01-23/university-grads-line-city-police-jobs

Allyuh think this going to help with better police responds to address the public concerns, or we need lego beast for police wuk.

There is a growing trend towards university graduates and people with technical qualifications applying to become municipal police officers.

When the T&T Guardian visited a recruitment drive at City Hall in Port-of-Spain, yesterday, several prospective candidates claimed that they decided to apply since they struggled to find jobs after graduating.

Arvin Rattansingh, a final-year student at the University of the West Indies, explained that he was applying in advance due to the competitive job market and cutbacks in the Government’s On the Job Training programme.

“With the way the country is going, I am not seeing any real avenue to get a job. I am looking for job security once I leave university,” Rattan said.

One woman, who asked to remain unidentified, said she had difficulties in finding employment while pursuing her masters degree.

“To be honest being a police officer was never my dream. It is an honest job and I could help serve my country and study part-time,” she said.

Statutory Authorities Service Commission administrative officer Grayson Jordon, whose department is overseeing the recruitment drive, confirmed that it had received resumes from university graduates for the positions, which require five O’Level passes including English.

Jordon said the Commission was seeking to fill 325 vacancies within the Municipal Police Service in Port-of-Spain, Arima, San Fernando and Point Fortin.

While they have the same powers of arrest and investigation as regular police officers, municipal police officers mainly perform their duties at municipal corporation facilities and enforce their by-laws and regulations.

The recruitment drive is seeking to fulfil a Cabinet mandate to strengthen the municipal police force to 1,400.

Successful candidates will undergo a four-month training programme conducted by the Office of Law Enforcement Policy.

The last segment of the recruitment drive is expected to take place in Point Fortin on Saturday between 7 am and 3 pm.

General Discussion / The Play of the Month - Vicky Boodram
« on: December 01, 2017, 10:14:16 PM »
This incident is like straight from a Hollywood/Bollywood script. She had the police constable totolbay. The man see thickness and he gone bazodee.

http://newsday.co.tt/2017/12/01/cop-admits-helping-vicky-escape-love/

A police constable detained in connection with the escape of remand prisoner Vicky Boodram confessed yesterday to the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) that he hatched a plan to allow Boodram to escape because he was in love with her.

The constable said he and Boodram carefully planned the escape which included falsifying a court document, planning where she would spend the night after leaving prison and her next move – changing her appearance and identity to escape recapture. The officer gave a statement after the PSB confronted him with information that he was seen leaving with Boodram in his Nissan Almera car on Monday afternoon. The constable said he knew Boodram before she was arrested and was intrigued by her physical appearance and smile.

Sources said he began visiting her when she was incarcerated and wrote letters to her. It remained unclear how he was able to discuss the escape plans with her, but investigators believe she may have had access to a cellphone.

The policeman’s cellphone which was seized during his arrest on Wednesday, was being examined yesterday. On Wednesday, an MTS security guard interviewed for several hours by the PSB, said he saw a police constable arrive at Tunapuna court on Monday afternoon with Boodram seated in the back of a dark blue Suzuki Vitara (PDM 3335), at 6 pm, which proceeded to the cell block area in the basement.

He was unable to verify whether Boodram was put in the holding cell, but was certain there was no one else in the basement because the court had closed at 4 pm and staff had already left for the day. The MTS officer said he saw the constable leave the cell block area in the same vehicle, without Boodram, heading in the direction of the Tunapuna police station.

Colleagues of the constable reported seeing him park the Vitara at the station and added he made no entry in the station diary, but told an officer he was leaving for a short while and would be back. The MTS officer added that the constable returned to the court about five minutes later, walked to the cell block area and drove out in his Almera with the person who appeared to be the female prisoner.

The MTS guard said he knew the constable because he often saw him in the court with prisoners and could not believe he might have been involved in the “great escape.” Police also verified that someone fitting the description of the main suspect was seen with Boodram outside the Siparia Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

On Wednesday at 2 am, the policeman was detained at his Arima home and taken to PSB offices in Port of Spain. In an initial interview he said a senior officer instructed him to bring Boodram to the Tunapuna court on Monday afternoon. He said he did nothing wrong and was just following instructions.

However, on examination, the court note to that effect which had a legal stamp and signature, turned out to be bogus. Investigators discovered yesterday that it was an original court note which was altered and scanned to make it look like an authentic document. Prison officers presented with the court note did not realise it was fake and that was why Boodram was allowed to leave the prison.

Sources said after Boodram was picked up from the prison by the two police officers, the female officer was dropped off on the bus route in Arouca shortly before 6 pm.

This officer, who was detained on Tuesday, said she had no idea she was being set up by the policeman to assist in his plan to have Boodram illegally released.

The female officer is expected to be released shortly, pending further investigation.

Football / Anthony Dexter Faustin Going Home
« on: October 28, 2016, 01:26:29 PM »

Forumites, especially those who went Tranquil in the early 70s, may have known Dexter. He passed yesterday around 1:30am in Baltimore. He had stage 4 cancer. Was paralyzed from the waist down. He played when Tranquil got promoted to the old div 1.CFL. He also played for Malvern after leaving school. He played for a number of teams in Baltimore (where he resided) and Washington. Good player with excellent first touch. I can attest to that. His funeral is tomorrow 10:30am in Baltimore. He was from the Paramin-Maraval area. RIP Dex. I will be there for the farewell. God Bless.

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20151204/features/raf-robertson-passes

This dude put some of Kitchener kaiso to jazz. He was a truly excellent kaiso jazzman. RIP, Breds.

Internationally-acclaimed musician Rafael “Raf” Robertson passed away on Thursday from complications due to a flu virus. Robertson had actually last week Friday checked himself into the Mt Hope Hospital because although he thought he just had the cold, he was feeling unusually unwell.
Many of his friends and musical peers were unaware that Robertson was ill and so were shocked upon hearing the news of his death yesterday morning.
Tributes have been coming in from the world over, many of them posted on Facebook. American jazz pannist Andy Narell posted, “Today I lost my best friend. I was hoping I'd never have to say that, but it wasn't meant to be. I'm gonna miss you in so many ways Raf”. Jazz pianist Michael “Ming” Low Chew Tung told the Express, “Raf Robertson was a beautiful human being who used every opportunity to engage and enlighten those of us around him. He was always one to offer a kind supportive word to a young musician in a bid to encourage them to be better.”
