Good Morning Guys.
Please don't take that seriously. The only real ranking is when two teams take the field and battle to the end. Coca Cola rankings is sponsor money for FIFa. Peace

Good morning Touss,
Thanks for the info. I have seen decent DR players in the States, but they always seem to be  overshadowed by beisbal players. If they can challenge Haiti in the furure, thats all well and good. Look at Panama and  Venezuela, they are no longer taken granted. Peace.

Good Mornings Guys,
Why do we  hit up on Guyana like that. So they are in the unfortuane position. So what. They are not the only country like that. They will come thru it. Even if it is later that sooner.  In some ways they are our cousins. We came on they same ship as they say. Unfortunately the government of only spend the bare minimun on football. There are lots of wealthy business people in NY(Richmond Hill) who haVE the money to contribute but  don't care much about football.  Unfortunately, there is race factor to the situation. But only the people of Guyana could resolve this. We should be encouraging them to resolve that issue. We in TT have the same issues. Maybe not as drastic. But I take nothing for granted. The Guyanese players are good. The core of their national play in TT and one has even coached NE stars. In addition Shabazz coaching their national team. This  is a testimony that they look to TT for assistance and guidance. I see nothing wrong in that. Peace

Good morning,
I did not know Sharkey died. I remember Sharkey played for the Regiment as they were called then in the late 60s. He was a household name in TT then. He  played with Licoln, Gerry Brown, Victor Gamaldo. He was small but had plenty speed. Scored plenty goals for the army. He played a couple time for TT. His bigger brother Ken, played for TT and was an assistant national coach. Then he had a smaller brother who play for QRC. When he left the army he played with Boissiere. Then I saw him in Boys high NY playing with over 30/40 football. Still looked spritely. And I have not seen or heard about him. I hope they have a big turn out for his memorial. He had one of the best football nicknames. He was like a shark in front the goal. TT had the original Henri. Sharkey Henri

Good Morning,
You are right plenty money not the sole factor in being a major player, but it helps your country go to the WC more frequently. Some people don't like Mexican football. But I find there football is of a very high standard. Well organized in all aspects(from the playing field to the boardroom). Good stadiums. Plenty peole at the games. The government of Mexico should take a page out of the Mex.football.

The Mexican are playing in South American because they are determined to win the WC. Please don't laugh. They are serious about that. They are even encouraging some of their good players to go to Europe to play. European and S. American teams cannot take the Mexican for a ride as before It may be a while before we beat Mexico again

To be honest guys, Puerto Rico could field a decent team if they look hard for all the Americans with PR ties. All the big clubs now use foreign players. Look at Arsenal and Chelsea. Joe Public etc. Football is business also. The guys who investing their mony wantn to win. Iam also glad that PR is now taking futbol seriously. Lets get DR into that mode also. These teams need to improve. It is to our advantage that we play strong teams.

The PR team were mostly foreigners

Mexico has money, plenty money. They have the best organized league in latin America.

What about Jabloteh?

18522
He may be no name but he played at the highest level. He can definitely pass on some of his experience to the squad. How many of those international  coaches played in a World Cup. Very few. A coach must cut his teeth somewhere. It just happens Wim is in the right situation. Right place right time.I say Wim has until the Gold Cup to prove that he is not the right coach for SA journey

We don't envy jack and his stadium. What we mad at is all them empty seats in the stadium

I agree.  The intent to controlthe ball and  build the play is really good. Very few long balls. The play  breaks down quite often in the finally third. So what. These two are on the same level. The only thing lacking is crowd support. It is a real pity to see so much blue seats.

CORRECTIONS

When you all start writing that you cannot  get space to play in all the little savannas in T&T, then we know that the natural instincts are back.

As long as Jack there, everything will be wait and see. The government is willing to play its part and put the money, but not a blanket cheque. There must be transparencies. That word is not part of Jack vocab. The government gave the team a mil each. TTFF gave, how much??, take or leave it. Businesspeople know Jack. They will not put their until they know they are difinitely getting back something in return.

T&T biggest problem is that we lost the passion of the past. Jack policies and dictatorial manner is one of the factors contributing to this. A 3rd generation is growing up without that passion. When you all start writing that you can get space to play in all the little savannas in T&T, then we know the natural instacts are back.

Guys,

Fishs,
I have the same problem too. Philipe Vorbe was really one of the best Haiti and the Caribbean has produced. He had great ball control and vision. He was a mid-field general. I think he won the MVP in the Concacaf tournament in TT. Haiti beat us 5 or 6 something in Arima. He captain the Haiti team to that 74 WC. But he was overshadowed by the big guns. Haiti was overwhelmed. The most outstanding player for them at the WC was their goalkeeper, Francillon. He got a contract in France after. He save them from plenty goals. Funny thing though, when they played Italy, they scored first on a counter attack. But Italy won 3-1. Vorbe coached the team after. One Haitian toldme that Papa Doc henchman were officials on the team and they rough up  some of the players when they lost. Papa Doc put plenty money in that team and football in general in Haiti. Football, Compas Music and Haiti art were the few bright spot that stood at that time. Their football has fallen a lot. It is making a very slow recovery.

Guys, do you think the old TTT might have a copy of that 1973 tournament somewhere in a old cupboard. I saw the T&T/Haiti and T&T/Mexico on TTT home.

Football / Re: Battling the high altitude problem
« on: December 07, 2006, 01:40:37 PM »
Guys,
Altitude is indeed a big factor. But if the players dwell on it, then it becomes a psychological barrier to their performance. If you prepare well all the high altitude complaint becomes mute. Mike Grayson, Kendal Walkes and Tom Philips played in the 75 PanAm games. They say if you fit and have good ball control  your chance and good. Can T&T prepare that kind of type anytime they have to play at altitude. I am no that confident. If you are a pro ball player you should be able to play at any altitude or weather conditions.

Guys,
The harder the qualifications, the better it is for us when we go to the world cup. Everybody wants an easy passage to the big dance. Then when it is time to performance, they tou-tou down the place. Tough qualifiers build character.I t will benefit us. We proved it already.

Yes "Crapaud" was his alias. I heard a JA guy at HU talk about him and asked if I knew Crapaud.
For the 78 WC in Spain, T&T had to play Barbados in the qualifiers. B'dos had some very good players. Gerry and Ricky Goodard, Gas Clarke, Clarence Alleyne, etc. They shock T&T 2-1 in Bridgetown. In the return in the Oval we won 1-0.  Nice build up with Sammy, Gally, Steve and Toni let a rocket from a good distance(20-25) in the back of the net. They goalie was still in the air when the ball hit the net.  I can't remember if Coop played. I know he was on the squad. They went back to B'dos to play the 3rd game and T&T won 3-1, I think.
We then met the real great Suriname team wih Zebida, Leilis, Rene Olmberg, Enting, etc. That game was a classic.Coop has good memories of that one. Guys we need an archivist to search Guardian and Express files for them games. There are plenty articles and pictures of those games.  Anyone on the forum has ties to Express and Guardian. Maybe we should ask Valentino  Singh(QRC oldbay). Played cricket and footall(goalie). If I knew it would been like this I would have started my own archive back them, Then again my aunt would have thrown all them papers. She would say I causing mice to invest she palce.

Yes,
We packed our defence and tried counter attack tactics. But that did not work. Sammy, Steve, Tony Douglas, Steve Khan, Carpette, was too much for us to play an open game.

Sorry Guys,
The Aztecs with Toni Douglas And Moraldo as captain beat Miami Toros  with Archie, Figaro and Steve David for the NASL title in 74. When the 74 youth came back from Toronto we played the senior team in skinner Park. We lost 2-0 to a pair of Steve David goals.

Good Evening Forum,
It is true Toni Douglas played for Vere Tech. They toured T&T in 68. The end of the college leauge season. They played about 5 games. They tied Fatima 0-0. They beat Saints. Lost to Q.R.C. They played T&T schoolboys twice and lost by 1-0 margin(I stand to be corrected on these score). Toni was avery good player. Could kick the ball hard. He played for LA Aztecs in the old NASL. He and Ramon Moraldo(he captained the team) played for LA in 74. The Aztecs betwen Miami with Selris Figaro, Archie and Steve David. Ah gone
