The haves and have nots in TT Premier Football League.
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday).

Our football has retrogressed badly. Imagine a proleague where players have to buy their boots. That is like when I played in the early 70s.

Boss Game ...  LHR 3 - ACPOS 2

Trini_2026, yes it was. Rangers jump on them early, but was hanging in there by a thread against a 10 man ACPoS. Nice end to end game.

What about Track & Field / Penn Relays 2023
« on: May 01, 2023, 06:41:27 PM »
I went to the Relays for the first time last Saturday. It was well worth it sitting in the drizzling rain. The competition was at a very high standard. Our high school kids have a long, long way to go. QRC came 4th in the 4x100 on Friday. Sad I did not see them live. The JA HS schools ruled in almost all the events. The JA crowd support is overwhelming. The highlight of the day was  100 meters for men 85 and over. The crowd was cheering the ultra seniors. The guy who came in last was 96 years old. It was a beautiful sight to behold. I would recommend this Penn Relays to anyone. Blessings Forumites!!!!

I only saw the 2nd half. It was a balanced game with AC having the edge. They used that edge to pip Rangers. The main stands at the stadium had a nice crowd.  Good luck to the eventual winners.

Wow, How time has changed. Robin Hood from Suriname is now non-professional. They went to the Concacaf Clubs champions cup finals on 2 or 3 occasions. Losing all to Mexican teams. But at least they still around. Where is Maple, Malvern, Colts, Caroni, Fyzabad, Palo Seco, Sando Juniors,  and my cub Essex, etc ?

Is Mascall related to Max Mascall who used to play for Malvern and the DF ?

General Discussion / Re: Spike in Violent Crimes
« on: April 22, 2023, 02:00:34 PM »
This is a AfroTrini problem. These people who are committing these crimes apparently had no effective guidance(parental or otherwise) during there 12 to 18, 12 to 20 age period. Very few can be brought back in line without incentives to turn their lives around. To late for them. Until AfroTrini community come up with effective and concrete plans to steer these young men from that lifestyle of quick money, die young, then there is no hope. We AfroTrinis have to resolve our issues. Then the crime situation will abate. That is my take. And I stand by that.

Tell him to invite some Argentine  club teams to TT. And occasionally have the Arg. national team visit TT on its way to play in Euro.

Guys some nice football! Angus will have to recalibrate. Yes not much goals scoring on us, but we not winning either. He need to take a look at Rochford, Poon, and some others

AC POS beat CFC 2-1. Should have been more for AC. Jean-Paul Rochfordd is a good player. They guy have good first touch. The AC midfield played a long ball over the right side, and Rochford collect and moved one time with such speed that the defender could not help but foul him. The game was a fast paced game. Not the way the national team does play. Right Rangers beating Cunupia 3-0.

To me the brand is refreshing and in my opinion gives an extra option that allowed the type of penetration that led to the goal. My frustration with Eve was with the substitutions. The style depends on an Auvray, Jones or ....

Again Kounty, No issue with the brand. We had to win to qualify for GC and move out of Group B. We should have attack them constantly for first 20/25 mins. If the football eh pretty during that period, so be it. When we up 2 or 3, then switch to "nice football".

We were passing the ball around nicely but too slow in transition.

Injun, that is what Mike Grayson related to me. He said that tactic was not apt for the moment. If we had a two or three goals leading we can play that way. We needed to win the game. All them need is a tie. We needed constant precision attacking, not that slow build up. Wrong plan.

Football / Re: Fire Angus Eve Thread
« on: March 29, 2023, 09:15:54 AM »
what is needed in TT is football schools like they have in europe, the government should have build five or six schools as such in this nation, four in every region of trinidad and two in tobago where experienced developmental coaches from europe are hired to teach these children how to play football properly.

pullstones You are 100% correct that we need schools for football. But You are 100% f--king mad to expect government to build them. Government, You say ? What about the other sports who will ask for their academies ? The private sector and people with extremely long pockets with discretionary income should be encouraged to partake in this venture. But that eh happening in this TT. One or two may come along and to do it. That will be a breadth of fresh air. But I don't see it.

The reason why we eh qualify because Angus employed the wrong tactics for the game. My pardner in TT said the first 20 mins should have been all out attack, Go for broke. F--k pretty football for that moment. We need to score,  not them. Angus had them too cautious, he told me.

I guess he is licking his chops now

I hope is not that petty. I agreed with him to a point. He looked after his players during the covid. In addition, many players have been injured on national duty. And have had real issues with health bills. He don't want that for his players. But from now on I do hope he release his players. I was told that there are other players from other clubs who could have mad the team. But were not selected.

According to him, Rangers "does train harder" than the national team. They are currently in 7th spot out of 12 teams the TT PFL.

Zandolie, Rangers have only played one or two games so far. They have games in hand because they were on tour up the islands.
