What about Track & Field / 2021 U-20 Track and Field in Nairobi Kenya
« on: August 20, 2021, 02:42:31 AM »
Like nobody notice U-20 T&F going on in Nairobi. Just by chance flicking thru the channels that I got it on nbcsports. They are about 8 hrs ahead. A 17 year old JA won the women's 100 in fine style. 11.08. A Namibian yuteman won the men 100. A Grenadian and a Cuban were the Caribbean rep, I think the Cuban came in 3rd. That's all folks.

They will not win any of these matches if they play the same way they played in the Gold Cup. No sense of how to put together chances to score goals but instead packing your half of the field to defend most of the game will not work.

Sando, I don't see your point here. You know we need match practice badly. These games are not tournament games. We not in any competition. We need to play as much games as possible, especially the local crew.

Regardless how you want to spin and twist it. My point is we NOT going to win if we play the same way we played in the Gold Cup. It could be a friendly, a fete match, a game in your mother backyard, or a championship game. Same result in the end. What you don't get again?

You still not making sense.

If that is the best response you have Deeks   :D

Whether or not Angus is the coach, the team needs to play as much friendlies as possible. I would love for who ever the coach is, to select mostly U-23 players from now on. Losing the game is one thing. How they play in a losing effort is more important to me at this moment.

TRINIDAD and Tobago basketballer Johnny Hamilton has been signed by NBA team Atlanta Hawks.

Reports said that Hamilton, 27, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Hawks.

Hamilton, who is seven feet tall, last played for EuroLeague club Fenerbahce and Adriatic Basketball Association club KK Mornar Bar during the 2020-2021 season.

Hamilton played for the Detroit Pistons G League team, Grand Rapids Drive, in the 2018-2019 season.

He has been signed to an Exhibit 10 contract which is a one-year, minimum salary deal that does not include the possibility of bonuses.

I saw it on my high school group chat. That is super. GOOD Luck, God Bless!!!

I went home one Easter in the 80s, and it so happened that the Carifta games was being held. Man that was like Bingo for me. I was in HCS for the two days. I carried my little cousin with me. We had fun. Now 2 of his daughters play volleybol with the TT junior volleyball team. At that games Marc Burns was running U-17. Also Fana Ashby was the top female sprinter for TT.

One thing that stay true to the games was JA dominance. It was not their winning most of the medals that bothered me. It was the share depth of their talent pool. They always had 2 or more athletes in an event. In some of the longer events we did not ave any athletes, especially in the female category.  Even though we came second in medals, we were a distant second.

70
So I was talking to my good friend Mike Grayson about the situation. He also ran track for QRC in its hey days early 70s. Everything everybody is saying about TT T&F is correct. He said that ethnic demographics is one part of a number of problems. It causes the talent pool to shrink. He said we have to get the other half of the population to encourage their children to participate in sports. He does not see why. If they could run jump throw back in cricket like everyone else, why not football, basketball, swimming, TF, rugby, etc.

He said people always comparing us with JA. That is a reasonable argument. Their talent pool is huge compare to TT. Their primary school system has massive local and regional participation is sports.

Plus there is the issue to TT primary school system. He said a substantial amount of primary schools don't have schools sport or particpate in local area school sports. He is not even sure they have PE. In addition, when common entrance comes around most parents want their children "beating book" and taking lessons for a spot for high school not playing sports. Carnival already consume a lot of the nations energy, it is too much for country with a small talent pool.

He alluded to high schools where football is the primary goal for the yutes because of potential pro contracts or scholarships. yes, there is TF scholarships but football grabs their attention. He mention that while coaching at St. Augustine and Arima, many a times he saw some of these players as good prospect for TF. But they stuck with football.

There are issues of funding, accountability, qualified coaches and many more. Where to start is the question. We only have 3 years for Paris.

Oh! how the mighty has "fallen".

72
I am not going to waste my time like you in here bro. I never had any expectations for T&T doing well. Since Ato was running for T&T how well was the team doing? He was the only one winning medals. You guys pretend T&T at some point was a good Track and Field nation because of what exactly? winning one medal every Olympics? After 1976 we did not win a medal until 1996 so how is this new? and every Olympics the ones who do not follow and understand come with absurd expectations for medals.

This was my last comment.

.

After 1976 we did not win a medal until 1996 so how is this new?

You are correct about this.

73
Honestly I am disappointed. I am still not satisfied with the cyclist demotion in the sprint. I look at other cyclists and they are riding on both sides of the red line. TF where we have had most of our Olympic medal is truly disappointing. Lack of proper preparation, covid, injury and coaching. I am in no mood for debate or blame game.  TF heads has to do something different to get the best out of our athletes whether it is good times or bad times. Maybe I will in a better mood next month. The only good thing is that the next Olympic is 3 yrs away.

Sancho believes that if given the nod, Eve will have to orchestrate a restructuring of the national team while at the same time winning matches.

“From a development standpoint, from the player pool that he has, all these things have to come into play,” Sancho says.

In the short term, if given the job full-time, Eve will probably retain the experience of Sheldon Bateau, Aubrey David, Kevin Molino, Joevin Jones and captain Khaleem Hyland. However, he now has likely and younger replacements available in Keston Julien (22), Triston Hodge (26), Jesse Williams (20) Jelani Peters, Justin Garcia, Noah Powder (22), Shannon Gomez (25), Levi Garcia, Ross Russell Jr and Alvin Jones.

There are also potential young recruits further up-field in Justin Araujo-Wilson (18), Che Benny (20), Molik Khan (18), Akeem Roach (25), Kathon St Hillaire (23), Daniel Phillip (20), Jomal Wiliams (27), Neveal Hackshaw, Duane Muckette (26), Shaqueen Joseph, Molik Khan, Isaiah Lee (21), Isaiah Hudson, Akeem Garcia, Ryan Rampersad, Justin Sadoo and Tyrel “Pappy” Emmanuel, along with those who will emerge from the local league.

pullstones, look like Sancho reading your comments on this forum boy.

Trinidadian coach's tend to focus on results which is bad for the youths if A Eve did not focus on results so much he would have gotten to the second rounds TT needs a coach like Z Vanes who knows how to build a team just give him the u23 team and games for the next 2 years to prepare the players for the WCQ TT needs to stop calling these players pushing 30 for the next 2 years.

ffisback, when you reach tournament off course you focusing on results. What else?  When you playing friendly you tend to experiment, give this one a run, have an attacking defender tryout at mid field. Bring back a hold forward to play mid-field, etc. Other than that I agree with the age issues of TT teams. And then again, we eh so sure Angus contract will be extended.
It does not matter if its a tournament or friendly a Trinidadian coach will play for a result look at S Hart they all do the same thing.

Beenhakeer certainly played for results. He certainly not Trini.

I think Assistant Coach to a man like Hart would be ideal.

Not going to happen. Hart eh coming back.

80
The problem is other sports has the same issues like football, funding. It has always been so. Everybody expects government to fund sports. They have no expectations from the private sector. So what do we expect. I tell people when a TT athlete win an Olympic medal, that is like making bread out of stone. Until the private sector complements the govt funding with substantial donations, we will be saying the same things for the next 10 yrs, and on, and on, etc.

We have time on our hands for the next theWC cycle. Bring in new blood. Again, michel poon angeron, daniel phillip, judah garcia, sean bonval and gary griffith the third, Justin Sadoo. if allyuh know of more players add them. Form a 30 man squad of U-19s and U-23s. Look at Honduras and Mexico. Both in GC and Olympics.

Football / Re: Whet's Next for the TTMNT?
« on: July 20, 2021, 12:16:27 PM »
Well with no  WC22 and no GC, what's next for the team in it  evolution? I am seeing signs of progression and some talent to work with. We could be more:
 1. assertive on offence
 2. Close down faster on  opposition space
  3. more aggressive on offence
  4. stronger on the ball- we are getting pushed off the ball too easily
 5. Find that  center that  holds up defense and  is a threat  up the middle
 6. creative midfielders

I think with  what Eve is doing he may be staring to build a strong local squad . I like his authenticity- He  does not come across as  being bombastic; egotistical; or knows it all. If anything, he has to be open to possibilities and not be short sighted when it comes to  talent from all areas.

I hope we could see a focus on:
 1. a strong local development squad
 2.  revamp of  regional rivalries- North South- east west- Tobago squads
 3. Regional competition  for team selection-
4.  Foreign players will have a squad and will have to  be part of a regional team selectio
 5. No automatic  '  friend ting' to make squad. Have to compete to make team.
n
Hope we could have some friendlies against regional rivalries to keep a local squad game sharp. Best of luck moving forward- WC 26 we coming with a bang!

4.  Foreign players will have a squad and will have to  be part of a regional team selectio

No problem with the concept of the regional games and stuff like that. But foreign players have a limited time to come and  play. Especially guys playing in the English league. If TT playing a friendly in the FIFA window, is a week or 2 at most(depending if it is a two friendly games window). This would be difficult.

Hope we could have some friendlies against regional rivalries to keep a local squad game sharp. Best of luck moving forward- WC 26 we coming with a bang!

This makes perfect sense especially for the local players, since this would keep them match fit. There are lots of people who think playing regional teams means playing weak opponents. Yep!!!! Like Bahamas.

Panama vs Honduras = a proper GC match.
That was some hard-tackling end-to-end stuff

Good game. El Sal. gave them a run for their money. Canada also gave the US a damn good fight. Could have scored. Was not their day.

d constant needless back passes annoying

We playing a lot of backward passes right now.

We've probably played about 7 to 8 minutes worth of negative passes out of the 90 minutes.

Honestly, that is the norm for most teams, clubs and national teams. But last night is was driving me f**king crazy.

young team?? surely you jest. hashim arcia 32, molino 31, mikel williams 30, aubrey david 30, ryan telfer 27, marcus joseph 30, marvin phillip 36, khaleem hyland 31, abu bakar 34, alvin jones 27,  jelani peters 27, duane muckette 26 and triston hodge 26, so what young team are you talking about? terry had an even younger team with the like of michel poon angeron, danial phillip, judah garcia, sean bonval and gary griffith the third.

Get the U23 and U19 players for the next cycle. If what pull stones say about the ages of these guys is true, then we certainly need new blood. No two ways about it.

So people just beginning to accept we simply just not good enough. Best we can do is beat up mediocre and terrible Caribbean opposition and pack our team in our half against Central American teams to hope for a draw

Is that the future of our football?
.

Sando, I old enough to know TT goes thru these phases continuously. 67 Panam Games. 73 Haiti Hex. Italy 1990. Germany 2006. Look at those gaps. It has alway been like that. Until we get people with money and love for the game, it will remain so.

So are you saying well that is just the way it is and we should just accept it? You saying well we always have been this bad and over ten to fifteen years we will have another short period of success so its ok?

If this is the case and we acknowledge this then we are saying we have failed. And we should not accept this as normal. If we cant change this attitude it will never improve. Older heads like you seem to always be ok and accepting of this mediocre level of success if to call it success at all.

We need to get rid of this old man dinosaur attitude of what we should accept in our sports

Sando, far from the truth. I bemoan the fact that we are totally unable to follow the 4 year development cycle so that we can have new blood by the time the WC qualifying comes along. We take too long to develop a good team. We need to do better than that. Sometimes is 8, 12 years before we can challenge Mex. and the Central Americans. Right now we should be blooding the U23s and U-20s for the next WC. What you think are on the TTFA drawing board.  F**king zilch. Right we need the govt, the collective business organization to assist TTFA. You think that will, could happen. In you friggin dreams. And with the financial situation in the era of covid make things worse.
deeks as long as I’ve been following TT football it’s financial burden was always squarely placed on the ministry’s shoulders. The ttfa ttff or TT whatever they called themselves back then we’re never an independent body generating their own funds to nurture football. as far as I remember maybe carib did a little sponsorship here and there but the bulk of their revenue came from the ministry.

can you imagine there were people getting stinking rich from football in england, but these trinidad bums never once reached out to the English FA for assistance in building their organization? IMO that is beyond shameful, not to mention clueless. trinis truly are a people of marvel and wonder, and I was not being complimentary.

Quite true. But the period between 73 to 78, I think Ken Galt was the president of TTFA. He was a Neal&Massey excecutive. He was able to get funds for the 74 WC and CaC games teams and also our youth and the 78 WC teams. The TTFA was running fairly well. When he left the bachanal era of JW started.

i saw Qatar play Grenada and even Grenada is playing better football than TT hiring local coach's for the past 10 years has totally destroyed TT football.
grenada played better than TT? Mate I don’t know which game you were watching but I believe you better get your eyes checked, in fact get your brain checked. grenada was the absolute worst of all the CFU teams in this tournament, their defense was shite and their offense only went as far as the 18 years box. honduras ran rings around then and so did qatar. I think is time to sell your tv and pick up knitting, your time will be better served.
Did I say anything about being the worst team in CFU ?I said Grenada played better football in there 2 games than we did in our 2 games they tried to have build up play from the defence to the fowards TT build up play was non existent.

Grenada just did not have it against Qatar. Qatar played a much more skillful game than them. Apart from having problems in their mid-field, Grenada made a lot of errant passes and mistakes at the back. Miss the cross easy tap in. Qatar has some good players. Their stopper, I think is the captain is very good. And a douglah fellah called Afif. The Qatari Leo Brewster. Real nice. Check them out in their next game.
