Football / We need a 5 man midfield
« on: August 19, 2005, 04:27:51 PM »
The debate about whether Yorke should pay in the midfield is a good one with half the posters saying yep and the other half saying nope. I say if he play in the midfield, we hadda play a 5 man midfield, 4 defenders and 1 up top. Dis is my midfield formation:

Yorke deep lying central midfielder. The link between midfield and defense collecting the ball from deep, keeping possession, dictating the tempo of the game. showing enough heart and fitness to do the defensive duties if he doh have too much ground to cover. (Dunga type player)

Sancho defensive mid/Libero I was calling for him in defense at first, but we need a skillful defensive hard man to give Yorke some protection and help on on the defensive end and it will keep some of them slide tackles out we box. also a fine passer of the ball. (also Dunga type but when Yorke pushes forward now and then..we have Sancho to stay put).

Birchall (right)...not afraid to run at men and determined in the tackle. Had a nice understanding with Spann in the 2nd half and most of what we did half decent in attack came down that side.

Whitley (left)...showing some good signs that he starting to get a feel for this international ting. Skills coming out and suprisingly strong on defense...now to work on the final pass lil bit.

Carlos (attacking midfielder). Carlos have the legs, the genuine skill and  technique to be the attacking midfielder who will roam freely the midfield and support the lone striker (Kenwyne). Smart player and has a good shot too. I find we should be grooming him as the next Latas. Remember in the 0-2 loss to Mexico he played this position for the last few minutes and look real sharp.

I feel that could work...what you think?

Football / Is de DOG a goat?
« on: August 18, 2005, 02:18:04 PM »
Look, we done know the answer to that...the Dog is not a goat...but is a really that good?
Personally I find he could head a ball and that is about it. He is slow and is prone to lapses in concentration. What frustrates me is that he often gets the ball in a defensive position under no pressure and opts for the long ball, bypassing the midfield and we end up giving up the ball. It is a serious part of our inability to keep possession (but definitely not the only reason mind you).

Does anyone else find that Talles' has actually been playing better than the Dog...or just me? Does anyone think that maybe Talles' and Sancho could play together? I find when Sancho came in he changed they way we distributed the ball from the back and we became a team that started to play composed in possession. He looked solid in the tackle too...but probably even slower than the Dog. In ah earlier post I call the Dog and Avery shittongs...dat going way too far. I really do like them boys heart and commitment. But why do our starting defenders lack pace and composure on the ball (except Talles'...who have some composure...but no real pace). I find Sancho and Spann open my eyes to a different way we could play from the back......What you think?
