Partner you have a nice spirit, but you could have a great coach and if you don't have quality players forget it. Trinidad and Tobago do not have any class players since Yorke and Latapy. We just have to wait for a new batch to come. At age 17 Yorke was heading to Europe to play..remember that

Controversial...

You have a great heart but these are two very different cultures. Uruguay won the first World Cup and has a history to its name. Spain, Netherlands, even the USA never got a medal. So to compare TandT and Uruguay you must be crazy. Being that good does not just happen.

3.5 million people is still more than 1.3 million people where the national sport is not football.

They won copa america 14 times (same amount as Argentina) are you going to class Uruguay and Trini on the same note??
In terms of talent there is no indicator that TnT is anywhere close to the talent level as them. The speed that they play at, off the ball runs, and their technical ability is superior to that of the TnT players. This they get from a very young age and develops from playing abroad. The Trinidad pro league is garbage, and has a bunch of people playing at the same level, a slow speed, so that when the national players compete against foreign opposition they are always out played.
Hope for TnT lays in the hands of current u21's and u23's. If they sign and play outside of Trinidad then we would have a against foreign competitors, as for now we are stuck with a Caribbean battle.

For the KJ haters:

Today i had a conversation with Leon Best (NewCastle United Striker and Republic of Ireland) here in NYC after a game we played. He was teamates with KJ in Southampton and they are good friends. I was telling him how people in Trinidad hates on him. He was shocked seeing that his "skill and work ethic" are second to none up there and the fans love him. "He moved from 2000 pounds to 50,000 per week after his stint at southampton". He was picked over Best, (Best started for Ireland, and scored goals) due to his skill, speed and assets to help strikers. Currently he said Chelsea and Spurs want him...

SAM,'

I feel what you are saying but you have to make more sense to your point. There is "no national Agent". A player could fly to England and hire an agent if they think they are that good. Mike Berry is just an agent for some T&T players. The players are not good enough to play in some of those leagues. One of my teamates who is from Sweden is very good and can easily make Joe Public team if he were to play in Trinidad, and said that he could only play in the Swedish 4th division. That is where Kevon Neaves played.

So the leagues that you are calling are very good. Ask Darryl Roberts about Turkish league. The speed of play is very fast and it takes discipline to play there. The kind that Guerra and Lester Peltier does not have. If you were to leave Trinidad and watch a training session of some other pro teams, you would see that their reserve teams and youth teams have players just as good and in some cases better.

Trinidad and Tobago needs to develop a better youth system and has to be more organized before players can play abroad. In Latapy, Yorke, Stern John times it was less competitive as it is today. Kenwyne Jones is an exception because of his size and speed. But in terms of skill, there are many Kerry Baptiste, Clyde Leons, and Attulah Guerras in every league, why would a coach buy a player when they are in the youth system already?

Well, it dont have to be in the top flight in those countries, it could be in a lower division. But Sam have a point here. Look Wrexham in Wales and they have helped our players develop (Ince, Carlos, Hector and Lawrence).

Why would our players fly to a foreign country and hire a man they do not know just because he is an agent. This is why Berry was able to expose our players because they didn't know better.

I am sure what Sam is trying to say is, the players need someone in a position to help them and help them genuinely.

T&T players would also cost a foreign team less that it would cost they own to contract I'm sure.

PS: Kenwyne Jones have speed......  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:  wait, he so fast he looks like he will tumble over while running....  :rotfl: :rotfl:  de man have four knees....

It's funny to laugh at KJ speed, but do you realize that he makes more money than all the players mentioned in the thread combined lol.

Everybody always talking about this and that, but one thing I feel we need to focus on is to get a good players agent for our players base in T&T, there is to many wasted talents. They need some sort of guidance.

Our players need a good agent so they can make good decisions and a long term one and not only want to be the next Dwight Yorke and yet liming all day. Our players just want a big pay day because they feel they have a little talent.....

Dion La Founda have nuff contacts, maybe him ?? I don't know him to well doh.

I woulda say Mike Berry, but he is not base in T&T and he is known for robing our players.

Players like.....

Marvin Phillip, Daneil Cyrus, Kerry Baptiste, Matthew Bartholomew, Hughton Hector, Clyde Leon, Sheldon Bateau, Joevin Jones, Robert Primus, Glenroy Samuel, Trent Lougheed, Akil Clarke, Jevaughn Vance, Theon James, Wesley John, Xavion Navarro, Chad Appoo, Carlyle Mitchell, Nigel Daniel, Jason Marcano, Lester Peltier, Ataullah Guerra, Devon Jorsling, Jason Devenish, Jean-Luc Rochford, Shahdon Winchester, Jerrel Britto, Reshad Wint, Akeem Adams and Leston Paul ....... deserve to be in some foreign league even if its a league in Belgium, Mexico, Scotland, Sweden or Turkey.

Football / Re: Trent chooses Joe Public over US colleges

Playing at UCONN is much better than playing at any regular university that other Trinis went to. A number of people on the forum are ignorant and state that if you play College you career over. But a number of Trinis did not play in big time schools like UCONN, Wake Forest, Akron and Duke. When you go to these schools you have a great chance of playing in the MLS as 40% of the players in the combine comes from these schools. DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COMMENT.

If Trent chooses to stay in Trinidad and hope to make pro, good for him. At the end of the day if he does not make a contract in the UK, which is unlikely seeing that big clubs start taking players at younger ages, and seeing that he is not a household name: he would live on a low salary at joe public. But he can still play for the National team, and represent country with pride and for some people that is better than money. Goodluck

Football / Copa NYC - Brawl
« on: May 09, 2010, 10:46:55 PM »
Last Saturday Trinidad and Tobago played a qualifier in the Copa NYC against Uruguay. A tnt eleven was named based in NYC and i played in the game trying to make it into the cup. Uruguay was a good team, making runs off the ball, but in the second half a brawl ensued. Big just like the Jabloteh fight, maybe even bigger. Fans of both teams got involved and ambulance and police came right after. It was caught on tape and should be on the internet by someone soon.

Disgrace cause the TnT players started the fight and beat one old Uruguay coach to the ground. Embarrassment because Espn caught it on camera and Trinis are going to look like animals.

my friend, in today's game... benching does not mean you are shit. The coach could be trying new tactics or tactics for that particular game. Like going defensive in midfield. Ballack comes off the bench for Chelsea and Starts for Germany.

Abu never impress in a single game for us.  :'(  I think his problem is mental.

His problem is talent....

no mercy   ;D

biting veryyyyy hard dey

Aye me ah trying to mamaguile de man and big him up...

Is time we stop swelling up these guys heads... Swans MGMT was not fooling de fella... he is not cut out for this division far-less international ball...

Every time I see the man play, Daft Punk's "Robot Rock" comes to mind... he is robotic, gets turned easily, slow, no intimidation for he size, he cayr pass properly... may be if he wore a koffi cap he would be more feared.

Is time we stop this nonsense, we football look bleak, ah doh want man to say he is the best we have to offer this position. We as fans also need to stop bigging man up eg "jess because he went to St Marys (not him per say) doh make him an automatic selection for our team... He may be your high school alumni but we do not need SSFL star boys... ManU hold camp dey take anyone??? We need an Arsenal back line that could carry us 2-3 campaigns in the future.

What we need to do is capitalize on the fact that our biggest names in football is retired and build a youth training system on that. We have Hislop, Latas, Lawrence and Yorke... and Lara could give them pep talks on how to play on and off the field.

but Jack and Family here to stay... and Gary hunt is a c...

I always seem to have to clear things up with some men.

- He went to QRC and won North Zone in 2004
- La Foucade brought some Manu coaches here for a clinic not a scouting report.
- Latas, Hislop and Yorke are exceptional players but we just have to wait for the next one to come, you cant assume that every campaign we will have raw talent to make us win. We are 1.3 million people, for "an average defender" to play reserve there is an ok job. There are other guys coming up, that may fill the role. Some countries like Chile have to take a backseat for 2-3 campaigns till they make it again, you expect to have a World Cup team every year. You must build a program with decent players and when you get the Yorkes, and Latas fill them in.

hope it is clear now

Football / Re: My perspective on (K. Jones)
« on: December 26, 2009, 12:08:04 AM »
sense futures..

my perspective -

KJ is a very good striker in his mould, but will probably never be a prolific scorer for TnT until a coach comes in and takes a decision to build the team, the structure and the tactics around him.. And for that to happen it would mean abandoning everything we cherish as inherantly "trinidad football".

In a sense people have been spoiled by Stern John's goalscoring prowess (yes i said it) and expect KJ to come right in and do the same.. Stern is a unique type of striker in that he could make goals out of nothing. Kenwyne is an entirely different type of striker and I would label him a "tandem" striker in that given the right service and approach, he can batter opposing defenders to make opportunities for himself and the other striker in his partnership.

For KJ to be truly effective in the T&T setup, he needs consistent aerial service from the wings and Trinidad has not had a winger that can cross the ball well consistently for as long as I've been watching football. Thats just not the way we play the game. I mean how often you go in the savannah or watch a team training and you see a session focused on wingers running to the byline and crossing the ball for strikers to finish. The conversion rate in those situations are usually pressure on the eyes.

As for the EPL.. fairness is comparing KJ to John Carew, Emile Heskey, Peter Crouch and Emmanuel Adebayor, strikers who operate in a similar role, not to Darren Bent. People underestimate just how much Bent profits from his partnership with Kenwyne, he is flourishing because KJ occupies alot of the attention from opposing defenders leaving him space to exploit. Look at the goalscoring of those names i mentioned above and the people that play around them and you will see quite a similar trend.

That fact is also a big part of the reason why Bent couldnt cut it at Spurs when ironically he was playing in the role KJ is playing in right now. He himself said that they had him down as a "target" striker and that was killing his game because he plays "off the shoulder"..  Go figure...

Good post

i agree

Football / My perspective on (K. Jones)
« on: December 24, 2009, 12:18:25 AM »
I normally are against the masses AND here i go again.

The guy is fast, strong, Roy keane " a great finisher", aerial prowess, and troubles defences.
as for goals: Tevez, Adebayor, Kuyt all have as much goals as him and a much better midfield to give assists. The people on the forum who don't think he is good, obviously don't know much of the game.

John Terry: "He is a very good player, very hard working and probably the best in the air in the entire Premier League, he really is that good"

Roy Keane: "If certain strikers are worth £20 million, then he is worth £40 million and I would not swap him"

Steve Bruce: " “If you catch him on his day then because of his physical presence, pace and power, he’s unplayable. There’s not many people as big as the boy.”

So if these people in the league who are present, every week, have played with the best, watched the best play live agree that he is a quality player... why do you ( a person that probably never played pro, never played against him, or seen an actual pro game sit from your fox soccer channel) say he is not good. When he play for Trinidad and Tobago this campaign, he played with guys in center midfield that couldn't string passes out to the attacking third. It was mostly long-balls form the defence, do you think Jermain Dufoe would score 13 goals with Sunderland's midfield?

My thoughts: He obviously is good and is a threat to any defence. It would be great to see him play with a midfield to truly assess his striking talents. He has not played with a quality midfielder unlike Yorke, and with a transfer  in the foreseeable  future he could be a top striker with the help of a better midfield.

We may want to believe that players who have went overseas would simply dominate in the pro league because its of a lower standard but that is not a guarantee.  If it were such despite tallest age Jabloteh would have been a much better defensive unit with him in it
League 2 and PFL ain't that far apart in standard.

Partner u getting carried away -San juan Jabloteh couldn't string 5 passes together in the CONCACAF LEAGUE. What game do you guys watch..

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WATCH A LEAGUE 2 GAME. Name 10 players from league 2? Silvio Spann can't even start in conference but if he was in Trinidad he would be a sure start, even Captain on a team. Instead of giving useless statements, give purposeful questions, it will be answered. Ask dennis lawrence if pro league near League 2 nah... :rotfl:

If the leagues were that close then our teams would be doing better in the regional tournament.

Football / Re: Kerry Baptiste nears 50 goals in 09’

This is hilarious... All good is PFL - NEAR 50 GOALS etc... prolific pro-league player. BUT

In the digicel cup and regional tournaments he does not even standout. Remember when Darryl Roberts played people remembered him - he stood out. Baptiste is an ordinary player in the regional tournaments and lets not talk about when we play Mexico and other higher ranked teams.
He never gets past the defenders and is not that effective.

People are getting carried away a little too quick. Name 11 top class players he played against this season that have any significant stature in CONCACAF. Don't get me wrong, i dont play in a top league, but i think a couple guys from the US could come in the pro league and score over 50 goals - younger than 28. And above all, i dont think they would make it in Europe

Final assessment - nice local player, improved alot over the years, good goal scoring job, but if he needs to get recognition outside the pro-league he needs to show it. He has a over 40 CAPS and never made a note (Darryl Roberts made more of a notable impression in his first few days in the uniform) Congrats to Kerry but 28 is too old for a European team people

The last two posts made rel sense. I guess you could say it not like trinidad beat football, but the players definitely better. Technically better, play much faster and it have who does beat. I would say that D3 is horrible.

The point of going to school in trinidad make sense, but you forget how hard it is to do a program of your choice in Trinidad. In the average Trinidadian smarter than the American and the school here easier. NO LIE... i swear i had a 4.0 GPA in my first two years including football  :rotfl:

One thing that people under rate about the US style is their work rate and technical skill. Thats why they beat us

With that said, there is nothing like eating, sleeping and breathing football in a pro environment.

Does the tnt pro league offer that tho?
I feel like our league is "pro" by name and by the fact that you get paid.
But I don't get the idea that the environment is very "professional" (at least not at all the clubs).

I agree with the statement that you must decide early if u want to go pro.

In terms of choosing College or Pro (Local pro), i am happy with my decision. I remember when i trained with Jabloteh two years ago on CIC grounds; it was not no where up to par for player development. The players would obviously be better but facilities poor (not the fault of anyone but the investors). I would only say choose to play local pro if you are 16,17 maybe 18. Other than that if you get a scholarship to a D1 school go for it. If you are 19, 20,21 and you not a superstar and wanted buy clubs, then your chances of playing pro in Europe and slimmer and chances of playing in the USA is still open

Football / Re: US Colleges vs Pro League
« on: November 03, 2009, 12:52:20 AM »
Guys, seeing that many here feel that the US colleges and Universities always hamper our players to some extent, do you feel that after the SSFL they should just go pro and play in the T&T league with the hope of getting a better pro contract aboard and a chance to get pick for the T&T teams.

Or just go to the US on a scholarship with the intentions of a education incase football don't work out. In other words telling yourself you are not good enough in football and need a back up. Which is always good, but you must be confident in yourself.

Remember, we must be concern if the US school system is really pushing our kids to actually learn something educationally or are they just using them to play football and then dash them away.

It's hard to believe that maybe 4% of our players who play in the US schools system actually make it through football....

Look Dezi Lara playing for T&TEC now. De rest of men just disappear.

Sam i guess this post may be in relation to Leston Paul's choices but its not a case of telling yourself that you may not be good enough. You have to understand the logistics behind US College system in terms of football...

1) There is no difference between College and University in terms of football. There is Junior College (NJCAA) which is 2 years NCAA D1,2,3 and NAIA (which has less restrictions than NCAA in terms of player eligibility).

2) Division 2 and 3 rarely produces pro players and some  D3 teams i have seen could be beaten by a good SSFL team.  Nevertheless, teams like lynn university (D2) could beat a pro league team if they trained year round like the pros.

3) When i made the choice to play D1 it was mainly due to the fact that i could get more exposure and experience. Playing in the cold, adapting to different playing style, playing with international players on my team (from Brazil, England, Sweden, Russia, Argentina), Played against players in the pros currently (Omar Gonzales, CHarlie Davies) as well as getting a degree, with free room and board and stipend money - which converted could be more than a pro league player salary.

Long and short, if you are extra-ordinary and stand out you could get a break. Clint Dempsey, Darryl Roberts, Julius James, Charlie Davies, Stern John, Yohance Marshall, Makan Hislop, Kevon Neaves, Scott Sealy... I spoke to a number of players who played in the league and currently playing and its not that they get lost in the College system, its simply that they dont want to play anymore. You may see them play in the SSFL league and say he is the next latas, but most of the time, the players dont really want to play after the college league.

Football / Re: Perspective of a player (important thread)
« on: October 30, 2009, 09:18:21 AM »
Couple thoughts in response to your post

Scouting- Easier for Capello to scout- all his players are based in Europe (mostly in England)...Not that practical for Latapy to scout players in Belgium, Turkey, and different colleges around the U.S.  Not making excuses for Latas, and not saying you don't have a point...but to compare the difference between  Capello scouting Carlton Cole and Latas doing the same for Darryl Roberts in Turkey....not a realistic comparison... First question: What's the scouting budget within which Latapy is operating?

Tackling- I don't think this forum judges a defender by the quality of his blade.  Primus looked to be the most promising defender, and that was a unanimous opinion on this board..haven't seen him go to ground in a game yet.  I'd say Trinis rate a defender when he has a good handle of the ball, and is composed in his distribution.  That said I'm not sure if individually our defenders simply don't read the game, but as a unit they are not compact and they don't move like a unit, and often are not supported by the defensive efforts of the midfielders...that often leads to imbalance, loss of defensive shape and ultimately desperate, last ditch defending.

Fitness- Fitness breeds fitness. i.e the fitter you are, the harder you work, and the fitter you will get....  Running in the off season will only get you to a certain level.  Game fitness comes from playing games, and playing them correctly.  Diet/nutrition, lifestyle/habits and weight training go a long way as well.  In addition to putting in the miles/drills in the off-season our players lack fitness because the level of intensity of our games isn't there, and I suspect the diet/nutrition aspect is somewhat taken forgranted...

speed of the game- fitness, intensity (mental and physical), discipline, focus and practice....it must be ingrained but it doesn't seem to be done so much in our local game...I still think that the perception in T&T of what makes a good player is not yet in line with the reality of the modern game worldwide...we place too much emphasis on rare flashes of individual brilliance and finesse, and ignore the qualities that are not as obvious to the eye... (Trinis rather watch/play a stroll in the park fete match pace game with nice touches and finesse, than an rapid, scrappy, intense battling encounter...even if the latter is more effective)..... I wonder if our climate has a little to do with it as well...

i agree with a lot of the points you make my friend. However, in terms of the scouting, If a Federation in the top 80 in the world cannot afford to send 2 guys to look at players in the US and Europe then don't ever expect Trinidad and Tobago to ever qualify easily OR anytime soon.

I would understand a poor country like Haiti, but a ticket to NewYork is $3000, Hotel Accommodation is $1000, tickets to the game $10US, NOTEPAD, PENCIL (not even a pen). Moreover, in different parts of the US and in Europe there are "ambassadors" who notifies the coach of a prospective player. That's how its done. I was introduced to one two summers ago and was promised a scout would be sent up.... Didn't happen..lol

Football / Perspective of a player (important thread)
« on: October 27, 2009, 01:28:56 AM »

I rarely start threads but i think now is a good time for this;

I would first like to start off saying that other players who i know read the forum including National players so that people could get an understanding of what goes on in the leagues you play in. I play at the D1 level in America and although people don't think that this league should not be given consideration for guys getting selected, they most probably never went to a game before.

Secondly i would just like to point out the flaws i see currently in Tnt football presently..(I am a firm believer of copying what the best do, in order to be the best you have to learn from the best)

Cons of TNT football mentality:

1) Fabio Capello we see scouts the games of not only the top flight players but the upcoming ones (Carlton Cole) could someone name one occasion that Latapy or his staff went to Turkey, Belgium or USA to see any nationals play. Does he know the likes of Justin Fojo, Javed Mohammed, Stephan St. Louis, Yohance Marshall exists?

SOLUTION - get out there and scout, we have way less players to choose from, so we should get as much talent as possible and develop it

2) Tackling - i read on this forum, time and time again that a guy plays good defence when he puts in a good "blade". Avery John, Spann, Keyno thomas are poor readers of the game because they slide tackle  alot. Maicon, John Terry, Ferdinand probably have to slide tackle twice a match, only if it is needed.

Solution - Young players, don't only watch Drogba score amazing goals, learn to watch John Terry and Carles Puyol when they defend to see their positioning before they get the ball.

3) Fitness - Two years ago i was doing fitness drills, Coopers tests, shuttles and I probably was running for an 1hr and a half in preparation for my preseason. While on the training ground that a Pro league team was training on an ex - warriors and at the time assistant coach of the team began laughing and asked if my friends and i were training on a track team and you gain fitness from playing. As funny as it was to him, I guess i got the last laugh when i saw the team struggling of tiredness in the Concacaf Cup, losing all their games. I STRONGLY BELIEVE that the local players are not as fit as the foreign players. And as such lapses in concentration occur in defending, which causes goals. eg in COSTA RICA recently.

Solution - Start running. You could have the skill of Messi but if you are afraid to make an attacking run because you may not be able to get back, then you will never be 100%. Who do you think is fit Jake Thomson or Keon Daniel?

4) Speed of play - Tnt speed of play is too slow for international play. We made it to the world cup because there were enough foreign based players to raise the speed of play. This time the foreigners were too old (Yorke, latas, Tallman). In the hands of Clyde Leon, Trent Noel, Theobald, kEON dANIEL, the speed of play was too slow. In College here, they push for us to move the ball quickly. Switch sides quickly and get up the pitch fast. Local players have a tendency to hold on to the ball for long ( a tendency that had me riding pine in my freshman year)

Solution - Coaches should practice counter attacks, moving the ball quicker and the youth coaches should insist that their players keep the ball moving!! Impossible is nothing

I have many more to add, but if you disagree with any... let me know

Pros:
1)the development of the current u-20's.

so true brother... There I thought that Latapy would have an understanding with the players and would have developed the players to their full potential, but i was wrong.

Yohance Marshall and James needed to be included in this campaign, insted of Keyno Thomas who cannot help this team. Too late now i guess. All my Thomas bashing did not reach back to Latas. I saw him in 51 degrees in the summer and asked for Marshall but that did not work either.

Seriously, Marshall: Pros reads the game well, has decent pace, decent with the ball on his feet, wins head balls and is training with Landon Donovan and David Beckham - A higher level than Chubby Andrews and those other over 35 players

Cons: I can't tell cause he dominated the college game and never played senior level. However, i would assume that he needs experience .

MAKAN HISLOP- only has size. He needs to improve. Slow, gets beaten easily and he does not read the game well. When a player is able to read the game well, dispite the lack of speed eg Alessandro Nesta, they have the ability to be at the correct spots before the play is made. Thus, you see players on this part of the world making slide tackles or "pelting blade". You rarely see John Terry slide tackling of giving last ditch tackles cause they read the game so well.

I am a central defender at the college level and i need to develop that part of my game cause i still slide tackle alot
