Andre,
I beg to differ on analogy that D2 schools are shithounds. They analogy may apply to Amer. football and basketball. Some D2 school can beat D1 schools anyday. D1 andD2 has to do more with the size of the school. D2 schools are smaller.

I play D1 currently, and there some, maybe few d2 schools that could match up... eg, Lynn university, which are really good and can probably rank in the top 50 in D1. But partner they do not get D1 because of their school size. please do not comment and give wrong info. Schools are D1 because of the amount of scholarships they are available to give. Adelphi University are D1 but their other sports are D2. My school has 2000 people and are D1 partner..

Football / Applauding Brent Sancho
« on: April 14, 2009, 07:55:55 PM »
I wanted to congratulate Brent Sancho on his recent achievement. January of this year i participated in a training session with him and other national players. The session was run by Scott Sealy and was meant for a couple of the players to keep in shape; including theobald, Cyd, Glenn and Hyland. During the session i found Glenn to be themost arrogant of everyone there. His attitude towards the younger players was horrific. He never acted like a national hero. He was acting like he signed a 5yr contract at Chelsea. He was " A BIG PLAYER". This was not the first time as i trained with him a year and a half ago at Jabloteh for a couple sessions and had no respect for people younger than him. I think that this is a pure example of getting what comes to you. I never had a personal grudge with him, but he is not or ever humble towards people he deems he is better than.
Brent on the other hand, is a true leader. During one of the fitness sessions, he pushed me to my limit and even though he could have finished before me, he stayed behind me , making me go harder. He was a true leader to me and i respect that. Moreover, his attitude to the session was very professional. Every drill, even he was better than is was, never complained and maintained his high standards

All the best Brent.. hope to see you at the World Cup.

Cornell fix your attitude brother, i was a big fan of you in 06'

Football / A player's perspective (please read)
« on: April 02, 2009, 07:30:26 AM »
On April 1st USA gave Trinidad and Tobago a sound beating. They dominated the game, especially in the midfield. Their game plan (which was fully executed) was to attack the wingbacks and move the ball in the midfield. Trinidad and Tobago showed that their team consisted of players at different skill levels.

A report on each player:

Clayton Once - Safe hands throughout most of the game. Good distribution of the ball, yet had an inexcusable lapse in concentration to allow the last goal. No excuses, cause that goal may come back to haunt us.

Anthony Wolfe - Poor game. I hope that experiment is over. He had no clue and one could tell that he had no experience how to defend the overlapping wingback. (Beasley) I blame this on the coach. If i was the coach, i would have called Yohance Marshall and Julius James and experiment with them when they arrived in Nashville. Simply because Marshall plays with Donovan everyday and James plays against him.

Kenyo Thomas - I personally don't think he is a good player, But on that night he WAS EXTRA BAD . Lost alot of head balls to Altidore, When he won the head balls the were off, poor marking skills, poor positioning as a defender ( on the second goal when Donovan went out wide, he left the middle of the defense causing it stretch and allowing Altidore an easy path through the middle). He is a laborer, with no skill. He can't play wit the ball at his feet.

Dennis Lawrence - Had the best game out of all the defenders. Won all the head balls, played well with the ball, and kept with the strikers. However, he lost concentration in the game and lost his marker. A huge part to this was because the wingbacks were exploited and the drew him out. Ok game tallman

A. Edwards - Please make a count of this stat if you look at highlights of the game. He passed the ball to the US team, either in throw-ins or passes 21 times. His lack of experience showed. He did not learn from his mistakes during the game, which is a bad sign. The US did not play with a right-wing essentially, and used Frankie Hejduk to bring in crosses. He crossed in the ball passed Edwards over 10-15 times. That is horrible. He never forced him to bo back. He could not string a proper pass together. He allowed Altidore to get on the inside and muscle his way to the first goal. But i guess in defence force, he is a big defender or a big player. As a player, i think his confidence was low after the first goal and Ince and company were yelling at him all game. Looked extremely uneasy before the game.

C. Edwards. I think his class was over the rest. His runs were well-timed. He came back to help the defence. He needs alot of help from his midfield to be effective. Due to Chris Birchall's fear of receiving the ball, he was forced to play in the middle at times, more than he should. Not the best crosser, but whats new. Put alot of pressure on Beasley and played very sensibly and within his game. He was fired up for that game.

Chris Birchall - I did not think he played worst that he really does. He was exposed during the game, to what his game really is. He was avoiding his role to receive the ball from the defenders. (please watch the clips) He did not check towards the ball to receive it. He tried defensively, but that is not good enough, because in today's game all defensive midfielders distribute the ball (Marco Sena, Andrea Pirlo, Micheal Carrick). He feeds off the other midfielders like Yorke, Latapy even Theobald and let's them retrieve the ball and he sits. That night, it was his job and he could not do it. His touch is not the best but he is a good guy. I think he got sub'ed because he did not get the ball. Chris i know you will probably read this but you should work on your attacking part of the game. Look to receive te ball from the defence more, this will help the team.

Leon - Did not play sensibly. Was, like Birchall inexistent. Hid from getting the ball. poor positioning and supporting the strikers. He did not string any good passes. However, defensively, i thought he was good at closing the midfielders down. Yet, he lost the battle...

Daniel - Showed he had class, but like Carlos, needed elp from the center midfielders. He is a player that works best with the ball played to him in a one v one position. However, because the center midfielders lacked the ability to go get the ball, he had the ball around the half-line and as such was ineffective. He needed to help Edwards more, but i dont know what the coach told him about defending.

Jones - I think he was good. Once again, he need alot of help from the midfield. Won alot of flick-ons but John, did not help the case. Moreover, when he held the ball up, he had no midfielders to lay it off to. Picture how attacking he would be if he had the crosses Frankie Hejduk gave.

John - I am a fan of 69 Goals, and i probably saw 40 of the goals fisrt hand. Over the last year, he lived on his past accolades but today, i think his time should be numbered. People say experience counts, but not as a foward. Performance counts. I know that people make mistakes, but when he received the call from Carlos, and he could not take it down it was embarrasing. I went to practice today and my American teamates thought that it was the most embarassing thing as well. To bring a ball down with his left foot? That is embarassing. That opportunity was a sure goal, cause had he taken it down it would have been a 2v1 for TandT. What he does best is holding up the ball and bringing it down. I like that about him. I hope he perfoms better in the future. I hate the attitude that he has, when for example A. Edwards messed up a pass and he put his hand in the air and when he gave a goal away he walks off. Scotty should have come on for him in the 60min in my eyes.

Despite the pressure and laughter i experienced from my teamates i saw alot of from the game:
  • The Wolfe experiment is over
  • Birchall's inability to check for the ball is exposed
  • Carlos showed class and that he knows how to play even if his team is not
  • Lawrence can still hold the fort
  • Thomas is a poison to the defence, and he needs to go
  • More scouting needs to be done on opposing teams.

Small Mag.. 3 things

1) Most pro teams dont really spend time practicing defending free kicks. Truth is at the highest level, certain points on the pitch those things are just as deadly as pk's. They need to practice not fouling on top of the box and learning how to contain for 90mins

2) I dont think KJ is lazy. I have known him for most of my time playing and he never was. I spoke to him before the last game, ( i cant quote him, for reasons) but the he needs help from the center midfielders and the supporting striker.

3) I agree with Hyland in the middle, but then again... it we are not there every practice to know what goes on...

All of these guys played in my year in SSFL. Fojo and Sean da Silva are actually on the same college team at College of Charlston along with Bateau's older brother Sean.

Fojo started on my team in my last year in the SSFL and he was really good in form 4. I saw him play on fox sports last season and they rate him as a freshman really highly.

Cabral went St. Anthony's but i dont seem him being a warrior.

Da Silva and Fojo will be there. I think my team plays them next season...

Football / Scouting Report on Honduras
« on: March 26, 2009, 07:32:52 AM »
Did a little research on a couple of clips from Honduras...

Stregnths

Deadly on Free Kicks
Palacios Governs the midfield
The other guy in the middle is more defensive
Alot of ball possession
Attack on the right wing - alot of their goals come from that side
Defends deep
Alot of runs off the ball when in opponents attacking third
Post up Striker feeds the midfileders on top the box

Weaknesses
Back 4 is slow!!!!!!
Wing back does not go foward much
Although they are big, Center Backs are not disciplined and mark poorly on set pieces
Weak on the wings - I think we could get KJ a goal from a cross

I think that Dennis Lawrence and Thomas needs to be very smart and disciplined. The coach will proabably tell them that before the game. Don't foul the post up man on or near the box. They will score the Free kick

A. Edwards needs to not join the attack and concentrate on the their right wing who will be coming at him. This is a major threat. Also, if he is beaten the CB's need to win the ball before it reached the floor on the crosses.

Keon Daniel needs to put in a greater effort defensively in this game than he did in the last one. And get foward more from this position to attack their weaker defensive right side

Whoever plays in the middle, (Theobald, Leon, Hyland, Latapy, Guerra) needs to stick with the task for 90mins. They will keep moving the ball and we need one defensive midfielder to kill the ball to the striker. Take that out and they can't score!!!!!

Attacking wise - I think this game will be great for a Jones or Scotland. Decent pace and smarts will beat these defenders. Diagonal runs across the back will have them confused. A cross from the wing will kill them.

Our center midfielders hold they key to this game, MORE THAN EVER!!! WITH A 4-5-1. Mixing it up from wing attack to thru the middle.

I predict 2-1 Trinidad... Goal from a set piece and from the left wing...

Played against this guy last year around this same time here in NY. He was on trials with a PDL team (Brooklyn KNights). He looks like a decent RB. Has a decent touch with the ball for a defender. Good luck to him

Football / Re: Trinidad and Tobago´s defence crisis
« on: March 23, 2009, 03:59:16 PM »
I don't think we have a defense crisis. We have people who could get the job done. I does give players and team real pressure, but we have defenders who can step up and be solid. From Lawrence to Akile Edwards and Powers   :timeout: these can can be made to play at a very high level.

It takes a coach who is willing to put in the time to DRILL proper defensive organization to the strength of our players allowing them to become more confident and effective. Placing certain restrictions on player in the defense who you know may not be strong in a given area, allowing him to be more successful.

In my opinion, a strong defensive team wins titles or goes pretty far (MAN utd 2008-2009). When i watched the goal cup and those regional tournaments the local back 4's could not play out the back. Thomas was not able to make a pass across the back. Seon Power is unable to play quickly in the back. A TEAM CANNOT WIN GAMES, IF THEY ALLOW GOALS!!!!

The defenders coming up like PRIMUS, BATEAU, BAKR, MARSHALL should stay amongst the ranks of Andrews and Lawrence (i dont think anything can be learned from kenyo thomas), Sancho and  2014, we will have a solid backline.

As for now, try out WOLFE and see how he performs and from there make switches if neccessary. Don't cancel him out just yet.

Abu Bakr is another good young prospect. I played with him in SSFL and has always been a professional. He reads the game well and has a nice height for defending head balls. He can play with the ball at his feet but he is not reafy for the international game as well. I think he should have been called into training with the team. But i don´t know how that would´ve affected his trials.

The use of Wolfe at defence is not soley a negative move... Alot of good wing-backs have been midfielders before. The move may sound absurd, but its left to be seen. Sergio Ramos, Cicinho, Maicon all played as midfilders. Wolfe probably played good in practice.. the public never knows what happens in the training sessions.

Nice post ,I like you welcome .I liked  your scouting reports on the players ,I dont see enough of that on here .especially with young players .You should do more .
What about your partner Javed  ;D would like a miny scoop if that is not a conflict ,if it is no scenes . :beermug:

Javed is a midfielder turn defender... He is respected in the BIG EAST and i thought he should have made one of the all-stár teams this year. He is great with the ball on his feet and attacks alot from the 2 games i saw him play last season. He takes USF´s deep free kicks and whips them in with pace into the box. He plays at the left-back position. Does not look physically strong enough for international levels but he will be a pro when he graduates and will be a great attackinng asset on either the left or right wing

Meh name spell wrong to....

Osei Telesford is another guy i played with and I think he has really stepped up. I have no clue how he has been left out. This guy is decent with his feet and needs experience to bolster his game and take it to another level. He is a tough defender but yet reads the game well.

Football / Trinidad and Tobago´s defence crisis
« on: March 22, 2009, 07:25:33 PM »
I think that the coach should give James and Marshall a look at a wing-back position. I know thats not their natural position, but its worth a try...

I spoke to a member of the WC2006 team and he said that James was not all that. But then again, he played defence and didn´t even get in the WC.

I played with Marshall for years now, and his best attribute is his ability to learn quick and adapt. He is good in the air and at his feet and just makes a few mistakes that every rookie makes. But i think he is the way to go.

Makan Hislop i think has been given enough chances. He is just another blade cutter. He is good in the air but lacks the ability with the ball at his feet. Good prospect but, he cost as the first goal in El Salvador. He made a cardinal offence as a defender and fouled the guy on top the box, when all he had to do was cover him without tackling...

Dennis Lawrence is picked only because... He made the same mistake Hislop made. And cost us the game.  Not stern John.. but him. a wild tackle on top the box. Veteran defender with veteran legs. When you are not up to speed you use your mental some more. he did not.

Brent Sancho.. I played with him over the xmas holidays and he looked sharp. He is more versatile to playing the wing-back role. Plays with pure heart. Not the best defenders in terms of reading the game but makes up with his pride.

Avery John... did hear from him in a while. would have liked to see him, but looks like its too late.

Kenyo Thomas... Strong built, tough defender but is a labourer (no skill). In this day and age, you dont see defeners slide tackling and "pelting their frame". Look at Vidic and Ferdinand, you dont see them on the floor sliding. They read the game before a play happens and as such avoids the sliding. Thomas is over-wight and will never make abroad with his size. He is slow but I guess he is on the team because their is no one else.

I think that the young defenders should be included into the training squad to avoid a total collapse come 2014...

I am a defender in the US college system and i also think that players here should get a look at and play together because in a couple years time he will be representing the country and i want to be ready!!!

You cannot say that Shaka is over rated because he played in the Prem longer than any other Trini, and had amazing games in New Castle's bess days...

You can say that Evans Wise is OVEr RATED ( as i waited in hope for god only knows what, for him to produce somethng in Germany)

Gary Glascow is Over rated

Kerry Baptiste is Over rated

Hardest is Over rated ( what has he accomplished, besides turning up men in the PFL and getting oooowww'ss and ahhhhh'sss, anything internationally?)

Marvin Oliver is Over Rated ( Same as Hardest.... When given the chance, he was not ready )

Fellow rookie Jason Trotman (Fatima College/Brooklyn, NY) also played a huge role in the win as he controlled the midfield throughout most of the game.

Is this the same Jason Trotman who was at Concordia College and St. Francis College?

yeah this is the same trotman...saw them play last Saturday in Caton Park... they were good

Football / more news..Stephen chase and Jason Trotman
« on: October 08, 2007, 03:49:41 PM »
Brooklyn, NY---In a game that had huge implications in determining the playoff future of these two teams, Brooklyn ( 2-8, 1-4 CUNYAC) and Hunter (2-9, 1-4 CUNYAC) Colleges each played a hard, physical game at the Parade Grounds on an abnormally hot October day, but it was BC who came away with a 1-0 victory behind a second half goal from first-year midfielder Stephen Chase (St. Mary's College/Brooklyn, NY).

The goal by Chase came during the games 66th minute as Chase received a great lead pass from Vasyl Palinchak (James Madison/Brooklyn, NY) down the left side of the field.  Chase beat the defender and then worked the ball back to his right leg, beating the goalie with a strong kick to the high right corner.

The goal gave BC a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish as Scott Geller played excellently in goal, picking up the shutout while notching 8 saves.

BC has now won two games in a row and has played two straight games without allowing a goal.

Fellow rookie Jason Trotman (Fatima College/Brooklyn, NY) also played a huge role in the win as he controlled the midfield throughout most of the game.

Hunter outshot Brooklyn 18-14 and had multiple opportunities at the start of the game but could not convert.

The Bridges, looking to expand on their winning streak, will battle conference and borough rival, Medgar Evers, on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at the Parade Grounds in the team's final home game of the season.

For Olympics

What about defenders like : Yohance Marshall, Julius James, Makan Hislop...
Midfielders: Kevon Nieves, Guerra, Peltier, .....
Fowards: Patterson, Sealy,....

The coaches make these picks and give no reason for their choices. And we have to settle for that. No kind of report. They choose these teams and pick these players with no trials, no anouncements, and forget about players abroad. I play college ball in the US and i never heard about an Olympic team being anounced. But this is Trini and we will fall short again because they do not ever field the best 11 at that time.

1................................

Morvant just like any other ban wagonist Trini....jump up when Stern John score a goal and take we to the WC and on the other side, condeming the man for not scoring every opportunity. Morvant - Trinidad dont need supporters like you. People who dont know the game but have the most to say. You see them at every match. Recently it was Glascow... Cussing him for every poor touch he made in digicel cup, but when he score he is a boss. Football does not work like that, and because alot of people in Trinidad think that way, we are currently ranked very low. Yes football is about entertainment but "beats" and "cyap" is for the SSFL and PFL. That is why the quality of the team so poor, and the team cant match up to international standards. Morvant- that is not football.. Football is a science, that takes good management and strategizing. Beats cant get u anywhere if you dont create a scoring opportunity. The game is about scoring goals not who get what beat. I currently play at a university in the US and plan to be a socawarrior sum day, but not for the money, cause i getting a degree as well or not for the girls cause i have a bess girl..but to walk out oon the pitch and my family in the stands and feeling proud. A feeling money cant buy. That is why the PFL specialist like Kerry and Hardest cant make a note out there; cause the football in trinidad slow and men like to beats. Look on FOX sports and see which stat they have NAMED beats. People like u happy with seeing Trinidad play Barbados and see Hardest beats and call him a boss. well Dwight yorke is Trinidad's greatest boss, because he won the most..not in trinidad but in the world...and he never beats, but he entertained..big up kingpin

« on: January 28, 2007, 05:52:48 PM »
I am left wondering about Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeping coaches and staff. My insight shaka and Ince was better than Jack but jack played . good keeper but not in the same class.Digicel cup I have watched a lot of pro league games and Jan williams loses concentration and does not know when to stay or when to come off his line . Marvin Phillips seem to be the better of the two yet still williams kept. So I am wondering what the staff looks for in a keeper , it amazes me.
The third group game seeing that williams had previously let in a goal a match , how come they did not let the substitute keeper play . I thought the tournament was to be used to see who can handle it at this level, so why only one keeper was used ?

alot of people who were not involved in highly competitive football would make a statement like this one... there are alot of things that go on in training that the PUBLIC does not see. So how can u assume that Jack was not in form during their practices and Shaka played mess... We cannot tell. so just let the coaches do their job and you do yours by supporting. I play college soccer in the US and i see it everyday. Fans wondering  why certain players do not play, but it is because of either poor attitude of poor performances off the field
