Doh forget about Hector Sam.  Came on and scored a goal today to win the match for Wrexham in the 90th minute.  Also scored in his only WC appearance last year against Vincy.  He could be a decent sub for us if Glen injured.

Football / Stern on the board for Coventry
« on: March 12, 2005, 09:34:49 AM »
Coca-Cola Championship strugglers Coventry and Cardiff were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Highfield Road - a result which does neither side any favours.

Trinidad international Stern John gave Coventry the lead with the game's first attempt at goal in the 16th minute, only for Lee Bullock to level for Cardiff within three minutes.

Cardiff, whose fight against relegation has not been helped by the financial crisis which has rocked the club, played some neat football without really creating too many chances.

Coventry, meanwhile, continued their mini-revival under new manager Micky Adams as they have now lost only one of their last five games.

Coventry, beaten just once in their previous four games, took the lead in the 16th minute. Cardiff failed to clear Gary McSheffrey's corner and John was on hand to scramble the ball home for his eighth goal of the season.

But Cardiff were level within three minutes as Bullock, making his first league start since the end of November, glanced in Richard Langley's quickly-taken corner - his first league goal since mid-October.

Striker Trevor Benjamin, a recent free-transfer signing from League Two Northampton, nearly restored Coventry's advantage in the 24th minute, but directed his header from Richard Duffy's cross wide.

Moments later Cardiff's Junichi Inamoto fired in a shot from the edge of the box which Sky Blues goalkeeper Ian Bennett - back following suspension - was equal to.

Duffy had the first attempt after the break, the on-loan Portsmouth player firing wide from 20 yards, and John lifted his opportunity over the bar as Coventry tried to regain the lead.

Adams, knowing his side really need the three points, made a double substitution on the hour, bringing on Graham Barrett and Andrew Morrell for John and Claus Jorgensen.

Within minutes Morrell was cautioned for a foul on Jobi McAnuff before Inamoto and Langley fired wide for Cardiff.

Chances were few and far between by McSheffrey - one of Coventry's best performers - forced visiting goalkeeper Neil Alexander into a save with 21 minutes left.

Coventry had another chance six minutes later, but Benjamin could only direct his header from Stephen Hughes' free-kick over the bar.

OK I agree with you we need midfielders bad.  Actually we really need all of our players fit because it's 2 big matches in 5 days we have to play.
By the way, since I've only seen him play a couple times, what is Theobald's best position in the midfield?  Assuming BSC stick with Yorke just behind the 2 strikers can Theo fill the more defensive role that Rougier was playing?  Can he play on the left side?  Would he be better than Yorke in that attacking midfield role?
I'm not a huge fan of the 3-5-2 but it seems to be a better fit with the players we have.  I would prefer to see Tiger in the defensive midfield role instead of the left wing and then we could play Yorke and Theobald ahead of him in the center mid.  Either Jones or Edwards as right wingback and Rojas at left wingback.  Dog, Sancho and Pierre in the defense.

Assuming everyone get fit my first 11:
-------------------Hislop-----------------
-----Pierre---Andrews--Sancho----
Jones----------Tiger------------Rojas
-------Theobald------Yorke----------
-------------Stern----Glen--------------

Subs:  Sealy for Glen, Eve for Tiger, Nakhid for Yorke

theobald hasn't been a regular starter in WCQ (bench against USA) so how all of a sudden you can't imagine T&T without him?  Not saying he hasn't been playing well but Theobald is by no means irreplaceable.

By the way I wonder what they will do with Rougier?  He had a terrible game against USA but was it just an off day or have his skills deteriorated this quickly.  I thought people on this board were raving about his performance on the Asian tour and other matches last year?

I don't think Kenwyne Jones ready for this team as yet

carefull what you wish for.  That game could also give Panama some points on the road at Costa Rica.  Points which we are unlikely to get ourselves which might put us at a disadvantage in the battle for 4th place.

Football / Mexico easing us up?

Looks like we are the only team not scheduled to play in Azteca.
Not sure what the Estadio Universitario is like but surely it must be a bit easier on visiting teams.

Also looks like the USA T&T game scheduled for Hartford Connecticut.  Hopefully all the New York and New England based can make it there and give we some support.

This actually penalizes the other teams in the HEX except Panama as well since they will now have an advantage in their away game at Costa Rica.  Hopefully Jack could step in and do something about this.

Of course  I wouldn't be saying nutting if it was our turn to play at Costa Rica but say what.

I just watch the highlights of the Arsenal Portsmouth game.  Dat Greek fella who replace Shaka in goal look like a real shitsnake on Henry last free kick goal.  No way dat woulda score against Shaka.
