So when Argentinians say "there are no blacks in Argentina" they do not mean it out of racism, they say it out of naivety and ignorance because a lot of them never met an Afro-Argentinian before OR they surely met one but they are so mixed that you can no longer tell.

Or perhaps they are even Afro-Argentines themselves, yet deny the fact?

From the article that was posted above:

Quote
"People for years have accepted the idea that there are no black people in Argentina," Miriam Gomes, a professor of literature at the University of Buenos Aires, who is part black herself, told the Post.

"Even the schoolbooks here accepted this as a fact. But where did that leave me?"

She also explained that almost no one in Argentina with black blood in their veins will admit to it.

"Without a doubt, racial prejudice is great in this society, and people want to believe that they are white," she said. "Here, if someone has one drop of white blood, they call themselves white."

I think De Leon could very well end up playing for T&T. However, I don't understand this idea that he's going to make the commitment any time soon.

It's true he just had a sub-par season, but then again so did his entire team. And his rookie year was excellent, so it could have just been a "sophomore slump".

His odds of making the USA's World Cup squad are certainly poor. But if there are a few key injuries and he has a strong start in MLS next season then who knows what could happen? Plus, T&T aren't looking at beginning WC qualification until 2 years from now.

So where's the rush? It's in Nick's best interest to be patient and wait a while longer.

A move to go directly to Caribbean source

Up until now, most of the Caribbean players who have starred in MLS have almost without exception come via the U.S. college ranks.  They were already residing in the United States (like Shalrie Joseph and Ezra Hendrickson) or first came for boarding school (Shavar Thomas) or recruited to play college soccer (Stern John and Andy Williams). Now MLS will go directly to the source with the launch of the first Caribbean player combine in January.

USA defeats Jamaica to secure top spot in Hex

It wasn’t always easy to watch, but the United States still managed to finish off their perfect Hexagonal home campaign with a 2-0 victory over Jamaica on Friday night at Sporting Park.

Thanks to late goals from Graham Zusi and Jozy Altidore, the Americans wrapped up the top spot in CONCACAF’s final World Cup qualifying stage, finishing with 15 points from five matches stateside.

This is a really sad story. And it makes me think that, while all clubs have new players undergo a physical before signing them, only the richest most elite teams give the kind of in-depth medical exams that can catch these kind of pre-existing heart problems early enough.

Look at Inter Milan. Not once but twice they managed to detect serious heart conditions in new players that their previous clubs had never noticed at all. In Kanu's case it was Ajax, and then later with Fadiga it was Auxerre.

Neither of those clubs are poor. So why did such serious problems slip past them? It really makes you fear that these kinds of cases are going to continue.

Revealed: Qatar's World Cup 'slaves'

Dozens of Nepalese migrant labourers have died in Qatar in recent weeks and thousands more are enduring appalling labour abuses, a Guardian investigation has found, raising serious questions about Qatar's preparations to host the 2022 World Cup.

This summer, Nepalese workers died at a rate of almost one a day in Qatar, many of them young men who had sudden heart attacks. The investigation found evidence to suggest that thousands of Nepalese, who make up the single largest group of labourers in Qatar, face exploitation and abuses that amount to modern-day slavery, as defined by the International Labour Organisation, during a building binge paving the way for 2022.

Qatar feel the heat over 2022 World Cup as pressure builds from four different parties

Qatar are in danger of having the 2022 World Cup snatched from them as a result of a four-pronged attack on their right to stage the tournament.

Pressure from Europe’s football elite — including the Premier League — as well as the concerns of powerful American TV interests, Qatar’s beaten rival bidders for 2022 and anti-corruption investigators could scupper the project to stage the world’s biggest football tournament in the small but oil-rich desert state.

It is virtually certain that football’s world governing body, FIFA, will announce early next month that the 2022 tournament cannot be staged in Qatar in the summer — as originally envisaged when the World Cup was awarded to the emirate three years ago — because of the dangerously high temperatures, which can reach 40 degrees centigrade.

Well, isn't it WINTER in Australia in June, July, August?  It might actually be too FRIGID if it's given to Australia...if it's given to them, we'll then have people complaining about the fact that it's going to be too damn cold in Australia if it's held in July.

Too HOT in Qatar in June...too COLD in Australia in June.   A no-win situation.  ;D

Too cold? In Australia?

Certainly no colder than the last WC in South Africa.

Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere --- it's actually winter there in June, July, and August.  (They even get snow-storms in during those months).

When it's Summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, it's the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere....and vice-versa.

Yes, I know how the seasons work in the Southern Hemisphere, which is where the last World Cup happened to be held. Remember that one?

And you should do some research on just how often it snows in the Australian cities that would be hosting the event.

USA beats Mexico 2-0, qualifies for 2014 World Cup

Would you believe Dos A Cero?

Again?

Not only has the United States owned Mexico in World Cup qualifiers played at Columbus Crew Stadium, the USMNT always seems to win by the same magical score.

And 2013 would prove to be no different. Despite playing without Michael Bradley (ankle) and Jozy Altidore (yellow card accumulation), Jurgen Klinsmann's side shook off a sluggish first half to once again beat its rival 2-0 on goals from Eddie Johnson and Landon Donovan.

Blatter: Awarding Qatar World Cup may have been 'mistake'

Awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar may well have been "a mistake", FIFA president Sepp Blatter said for the first time on Monday.

Staging the tournament in the Middle East has caused much controversy because if it is held over its traditional dates in the middle of the year, players will have to contend with searing 50 degrees Celsius heat.

Calls to move the World Cup to later in the year, during the European winter, have also been unpopular as it will cause major disruption to domestic league competitions in countries such as Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France.

Jamaica Plays Panama to Scoreless Draw in World Cup Qualifying Match

Jamaica played Panama to a scoreless draw in World Cup qualifying on Friday night at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City.

Panama outplayed the Reggae Boyz, putting two shots on goal out of 15 total, while Jamaica did not manage a single shot on goal.

But despite a significant time-of-possession advantage for Panama — 62 percent to Jamaica’s 38 percent, the Reggae Boyz managed to keep it even at 0.

Honduras deals host Mexico big blow in World Cup qualifier loss

Mexico suffered only their second ever qualifying defeat in the Azteca Stadium with a 2-1 loss to Honduras on Friday that increases the pressure on coach Jose Manuel de la Torre and leaves 'El Tri' with plenty of work to do to qualify for Brazil.

Costa Rica, who top the CONCACAF region standings, took a step towards booking their place at next year's finals with an impressive 3-1 win over the United States while Panama were held to a goalless draw at home to Jamaica in the other game.

After seven rounds of matches, Costa Rica have 14 points, the United States 13, Honduras moved up to 10 points while Mexico are in fourth place, outside the automatic qualification slots on eight points in the final stage six-team group.

Costa Rica snaps U.S. winning streak in World Cup qualifier

The United States' 12-game winning run came to a crushing end with a 3-1 defeat against Costa Rica in their CONCACAF region World Cup qualifier in San Jose on Friday.

Two early goals for a fired-up Costa Rica set the tone for a tough encounter and although the Americans sit in second place in the six-team qualifying group behind the hosts, the result will be of concern to head coach Juergen Klinsmann.

"We knew they were going to come out that way and we gave away a careless corner and they scored from it," midfielder Landon Donovan told reporters.

No Klinsmann, no worries as U.S. lift Gold Cup

Even with Jurgen Klinsmann suspended, the United States' golden touch with substitutes continued and now, the Americans are Gold Cup champions after beating Panama 1-0.

Brek Shea scored the game's only goal just minutes after coming on, slamming home Alejandro Bedoya's low, goal-bound shot in the 69th minute. It marked the second time in the tournament that Shea had scored the game winner as a sub and with the U.S. defense playing its most complete game of the tournament, the Americans were left to celebrate their fifth Gold Cup title in front of sizable crowd (57,920) at Soldier Field.

And would FIFA then refund Qatar all their bribes?

Gold Cup: Philadelphia Union happy for Keon Daniel's T&T call, but admit timing rough for club

Keon Daniel has already departed for CONCACAF Gold Cup duty with the Trinidad and Tobago national team, and it seemingly could not come at a worse time for the Philadelphia Union.

With midfielders Kléberson (right quad strain) and Danny Cruz (lower leg contusion) both banged up and striker Jack McInerney poised to be called up to the Gold Cup as well, the Union could be very shorthanded for their next three games: a grueling stretch against powerhouses FC Dallas (Saturday), Real Salt Lake (July 3) and Houston (July 6).

“It leaves us a little thin,” Hackworth said Wednesday during his weekly press conference, “Kléberson is about the same place he was last week at this time and that’s a negative. We think he’d progressively get better but it’s coming along a lot slower. Danny is another one … He doesn’t have a fracture but he can’t train right now. He’s definitely questionable for this week and that takes out a really important piece of our midfield right now.”

Costa Rica blanks Panama 2-0 in World Cup qualifier

Goals by Bryan Ruiz and Celso Borges put Costa Rica in a stronger position to qualify for next year's World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Panama on Tuesday night.

The Costa Ricans have 11 points from six matches with a 3-1-2 record. That trails only the United States (4-1-1), which beat Honduras earlier in the night.

Ruiz opened the scoring on a free kick in the 49th minute, and Borges clinched it just about two minutes later from long distance in a steady rain at National Stadium.

Altidore goal lifts U.S. to 3rd straight win

No amount of tight defense could keep Jozy Altidore from doing what he does best.

Altidore has been money in scoring timely goals for the U.S. national team this spring. Honduras made a concerted effort to keep him in check, but the American forward still put himself in the highlight reel again.

Altidore scored a goal in his fourth consecutive international match, enough for the United States to edge Honduras 1-0 in a World Cup qualifying game Tuesday night.

U.S. dominates Panama, takes sole lead of Hex

Even a sandy, slip-inducing temporary grass surface couldn't slow the newfound momentum of the U.S. men at CenturyLink Field in front of a lively pro-U.S. contingent of 40,847 on Tuesday, the second largest crowd ever to see the men's team play in the Pacific Northwest.

The Americans used both muscle — here's your chance to shine, Jozy Altidore — and finesse — hometown favorite Eddie Johnson offered up a healthy platter of that — to finish goals en route to a 2-0 home World Cup qualifying game victory against Panama. But equally as important as surviving the temporary field without injury and capturing three points on home soil, the U.S. now stands on 10 points halfway through the 10-game hexagonal tournament, a full two points up on Mexico — a team with one more game played — and Costa Rica (those two tied 0-0 in Mexico earlier Tuesday).
