Football / Re: Possible changes to Colleges League
« on: July 28, 2014, 09:30:16 AM »
Long overdue...always said that it was lunacy to have college teams play these tournaments on the weekends where they play 2 games in the space of three days.  Spreading the season over the course of the school year allows for greater time for player development, and having the College Cup in the spring will draw a bigger audience.  If you ask me, the college game has already lost its significance as many of the more talented high school players are foregoing college and joining the academies of the MLS teams or going to Europe.  Also, the style of play of many of the teams leaves a lot to be desired.

Markovic looks the real deal early.  Greater diversity in attack by LFC seems to be Rodgers' intent this season.

Markovic seems to be a handful...Rodgers will take him to the next level where he will become incisive.  He has a lot of tricks, good pace, and high intensity when we are pressing; seems to have already bought in to the philosophy of pressing high up the field and in the middle when we lose the ball.

it mirrors their development as a nation really - one of the happiest populations in the world relative to their development, and quite ecologically sound compared to some of their fellow Americans.

Agreed...went there in May and was amazed at how happy these people are.  They place a bit emphasis on preservation of their environment, as that is how they make their money.

Hart did 4 sessions with the women team.

He is also working with the youth teams, screening and training sessions with both the Under 20 and Under 17s.

Allyuh talking about a TD ROLE now.  As it stands, he is senior national team coach, so anything additional is a bonus.  This is such until they decide to give him the TD role, which if you ask me, he is qualfied and experienced enough to do, considering that he literally built Canada's football from grassroots level up.

Great post...I myself was brought up being taught that the Arawaks in the Caribbean were extinct, with no surviving traces of descendants today.

Football / Re: CONCACAF to Lobby for Four World Cup Spots
« on: July 11, 2014, 10:22:22 AM »
As much as CONCACAF teams performed really well this World Cup with 3 of the 4 teams making it to the second round, I don't think we deserve that fourth spot, far less a fifth. There is a significant drop off in quality after the top 2 or 3 teams.

Mind you as a Trini, it would be nice as it would make it easier for us to qualify.

Way I see it is that Asia could lose a spot; they did not have a stellar World Cup:  Japan was disappointing, Australia showed potential, but with nothing tangent to justify it, Iran was solid although a bit unlucky, and South Korea was OK.  That spot should go to Concacaf.

Equally applicable to Liverpool if Suarez moves to Barca.

Eh?  Worked out splendidly for Liverpool... second place in the Prem, CL football money and 80 Million Pounds Sterling richer for the sale.

We go be OK...we ain't stupid just to go and spend money on players that don't fit into our playing philosophy like Spurs did.

What really amazing to me is that Camps signed a promissory note against his personal assets on behalf of the TTFF.  Was there any line between the business of the TTFF and his personal assets, and why can't Warner bail out the man?

Come and get him, Madrid and Barca

I think FIFA pays or at least give some money towards the TD.

so i guess the new TD must  agree to work with just fifa  payment

Who will you get that can direct Hart? Maybe make Hart TD and get a Head Coach.

Agreed.  He was responsible for really structuring Canada's football, and he held both positions  simultaneously (correct me if I'm wrong ) for a while.

It too late for dem current GKs; they are complacent, due to the lack of competition at club level.

IF...we import a goalkeeper...these two making mistakes and being flat footed about a decade now and don't seem to be improving.

Second that.  The local GK pool is VERY ordinary; they are technically deficient, one-dimensional playing with their feet, erratic on cross balls and poor communicators (Jan cyar even communicate properly and quickly with he team to construct a wall).  Where is that American-based U20 keeper.  I've already said that he is technically superior to Jan and company:  he has good range on crosses, plays well his feet, and is an excellent shot stopper.  He's not the most imposing of keepers, but hey, Nick Rimando is one of the better US keepers and he's only 5-10.

Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Argentina Game (4-Jun-2014)
« on: June 04, 2014, 06:13:16 PM »
Not a horrible display against quality opposition:  the team looks much more comfortable on the ball, even playing out of the back.  There is room for a number-10 type of player to control things in the middle of the park:  we gave the ball away too easily in the middle.  Our wingplay leaves room for improvement, but all in all, the team is starting to look organized.

Rumour Suarez to United. Sounds like shit.

Just reading that and was shaking my head.  They really feel we would sell to them?  Anyways, that is probably stuff to sell newspapers.

136
OK, so 4mil pounds for former Liverpool trainee, Lambert.  Word is that this is to allow Southampton to reduce their asking offer for Lallana, but still bring in cumulatively the same amount they expect to make from sale of Lallana.  There is a 25 percent sell-on fee owed to Lallana's previous club, Bournemouth, should he be sold.  Lambert does provide some variation in attack, and he is coming from a club that is accustomed to playing the ball on the floor, so the adjustment to style should not be as drastic.

I like the guy... always have.  I think he'll be a fantastic addition.  He's no one-trick pony ala Carroll, but can play the ball with his feet, is a good passer, his technique is probably the best of any English forward right now... and by that I mean his accuracy with both pass and shot.  Moreover he's a clinical finisher, equally adept on the ground or in the air.  I'm not sure how he is on his left foot, but I don't recall it ever being a problem.  Fantastic addition, and it allows him to come "home".

Rodgers pretty much stressed earlier this season that his technique was excellent.  We know Rodgers will never recruit players that are not technically adept; that is a major requirement to play under him.  He'll definitely offer more of an aerial threat, should we decide to go that route and mix it up.

Saw it and it ran across my mind that Shaka looked a bit under-dressed, compared to Tommy Smyth and company.  Believe it or not though, Shaka is growing into a household name for soccer analysis.  I think ESPN is doing a good job keeping that team together....a good mix of notable former players and longstanding pundits.

At the end of the day, we are football purists. We acknowledge Suárez's excellent body of work on the field. However, the moments that have been less than honorable are compartmentalized into a separate file, although surely neither forgotten nor forgiven.

Also, considering that Suárez has been embraced by Johnson, Sturridge, Sterling, Sakho et al for club, and has played with Abel Hernández, Álvaro Pereira, Egidio Arévalo Ríos et al on the national team ... In the absence of understanding his socialization, I think we're too distant from the situation to make a comprehensive condemnation of the player beyond what we know factually ... though there's no doubt he now suffers from a perception issue.

Aside from that, he's probably learned a lesson in spite of Kenny Dalglish's obstructionist conduct. Other than that, I think the way Bakes framed his response is almost spot-on. I would phrase it differently: he intended to abuse and/or harass Evra and he intended to use race as a way of riling him. However, he may not have construed his conduct as racist ... which it nonetheless was. Lesson for Suárez.

What I found despicable is the club's reaching into his genealogy to assert that because he had an ancestor of African descent, he couldn't have engaged in racist conduct. How absolutely absurd! ... and an exercise in clutching at straws that was not particularly dispositive.

I have to admit I have been curious about this topic, but I believe there's room for rehabilitation. As such, I continue to relish his movement with the ball until such time as subsequent conduct overrides his appeal with the ball.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a Brazilian who found Pele's failure to acknowledge his daughter before she died as diminishing of his legacy.

The club's handling of this affair led to FSG cleaning house:  The PR / Communications head was let go, because that was a poorly crafted response to the crux of the issue.

I say US and Mexico, plus semi finalists from Concacaf Gold Cup, depending on timing of tournament.

Football / Re: Pro-League footballers lament poor salaries.
« on: May 01, 2014, 08:02:05 AM »
It is the duty of the players to focus on their development on the field; marketing matters should rest with league franchises and the Pro League executive team.  Skeene was quick to say that salary issues rest with the individual league entities, but that is bull.  The Pro League has the power to implement a minimum salary requirement on owners, but this will not happen without pressure from a legitimate players union.  These are some of the same players that fail to support their players association, for fear of reprisal from the former TTFA regime.  The Pro League has to be more enterprising in attracting corporate sponsorship to the league, although this will not happen until the league really presents itself as a professional entity and not one without a proper vision.  Increased sponsorship at the Pro League centralized level will eventually trickle down to the teams, but this is some way off.  Until the Pro League addresses the business management aspects of running a successful league, players will continue to receive such treatment.

In other words, you guys aren't as good as Atletico...  ::)

Atletico are a CL team... we lucky we qualify fuh next year.  How much dem bus going for?

Who knew that plucky group of stock boys and day labourers could make it all the way to the top of the EPL?
It's not like this team could afford to spend £35 million quid on Andy Carroll...

We only get good after we hired Rodgers....that is why he sent Carroll packing.  Like it or not, we are pleasing to watch.  Now yuh sounding like ah dunce.

Why did he dispatch Carroll?

Cause he doh fit Rodgers playing philosophy.

At this moment, probably not.  I've already said that we need about 4 to 5 new players to be competitive on two fronts next season.

Lamela's absence has been one of the more disappointing things about this season to me.

http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/tottenham-boss-sherwood-dismisses-rumor-of-lamela-return-041714

There is "no chance" of club-record signing Erik Lamela featuring for Tottenham before the season is out, according to head coach Tim Sherwood.

Billed as Spurs' ready-made replacement for Gareth Bale, the 22-year-old's summer arrival for £30million ($50.45million) was greeted by excitement at White Hart Lane.

However, Lamela has so far been a huge disappointment in north London, managing just three Barclays Premier League starts in a debut season blighted by injury.

A report on Thursday suggested the Argentina international will return to training next week after his latest complaint and that head coach Sherwood is under pressure to give him a run-out before the season is out.

The Spurs head coach recently stated that Lamela would not be available this season due to a back complaint and was bemused by the latest speculation.

"There'll be no chance Erik's fit," Sherwood said. "I read in the paper, or someone told me, that the hierarchy here are asking for him to get more opportunities.

"Chance would be a fine thing, he's injured."

That news will no doubt frustrate Tottenham supporters, who have not seen Lamelain action since he came off the bench against Stoke on December 29.

That fella cyar wait to leave London forever.  He has not settled in.
