Football / Re: Ashford Jackman...the voice of TnT football
« on: September 06, 2005, 06:44:54 PM »
Lamy good for horse racing, and former coaches always come into commentary with ulterior motives or grudges.  No disrespect, but Ashford Jackman was very biased for QRC.  Ah know he went there, but oh gosh, he could hide he partiality a little bit.  No good commentators back home.  Either they lack vivid description and naration, or they are void of the technical commentary that should accompany play-by- play calling.

Football / Re: Artificial surface in Costa Rica?
« on: September 05, 2005, 07:41:36 PM »
Fellas.  The new artificial turf is almost like grass.  Is not that carpet thing we used to see.  Some turfs have blades like real grass and yuh don't really get turf burns.  As a goalie, yuh could play without long sleeves and padding and the ball plays true to the bounce.  Depending on the length of the "grass" the ball plays fast or slow.  Fifa has been very strict in making teams that adopt this playing surface conform to specifications and stick to only "Fifa approved" surface manufacturers and installers.

C. Ronaldo cyan smell the Brazilian first 11.  Too much depth, skill, pace.  Ah don't think he fits that mode of play, even though he is a skillful player.  He is deceptive in space, but i don't think he is a creative genius like Ronaldindo or Robinho.

Football / Re: To solve our problem at center defense
« on: September 05, 2005, 07:31:11 PM »
Coach.  Ah ain't agree with yuh claim to have a quick defender to play in de back.  Seems a bit ludicrous.  A center back does not always have to be quick.  I though Lawrence did well to get back to Dog's wayward pass against the US.  Also, they come in pairs, so they both don't have to be quick.  Hypia isn't the quickest of center backs, but he does well in reading the play.  Defending is not just about being quick, it's also about positional sense.

Depends on the type of coach he is.  Some coaches believe that they have to be animated to energize their players during the game.  Others believe that preparation before the game is what matters and that their supporting staff is good enough to handle tactics if they are not there on the sideline.  Lets hope that their is a heavy reliance on this coach during the game, so that Costa Rica comes out lacking direction.

Tallman. The game in yuh blood.  Yuh does make meh feel proud to be ah Trini.  Sometimes ah does question we patriotism, but yuh always do a lot to brighten things up.

I know Avery since ah playing against him in Intercol, and he ain't iimproving much outside of his hard tackling style.  There is more to defending than wimming the ball.  What you do after you've won the ball is just as important.  Avery was only looking for a long switch and it was never on.  If yuh hearing meh Avery, work on learning to possess the  ball and passing on the ground please.  Yuh vision leaves a lot to be desired.

Keller might be in good form with tha workout he got from Bayern in opening Bundesliga round.  Lets hope his confidence is a bit bruised, because he German side is definitely one of the weaker teams in Germany.

Football / Re: Arena's search for U.S. talent never stops
« on: August 10, 2005, 11:02:22 PM »
Good article, Tallman.  Arena knows the game and the U.S. talent inside out.  He has proven himself from the college ranks up, and is truly a product of the American system.  He has the potential to one day be the coach to make a breakthrough in a major foreign league.  While American soccer has begun to gain the respect of the other major nations, there still exists a stigma about the capability of American coaches.  I think that comes from the lack of good coahing at the grassroots level throughout the country and the terminology and jargon that many coaches use.  Also, some coaches try to force soccer into being like another American sport, and that does not cut it for puritan soccer pundits.

Triniman, yuh ever look at some ah dem Senior Division teams?  Boss, not every school is at the level to play Championship Division football.  Sorry.  As much as yuh want inclusion, yuh need to consider the standard of the league.

Football / Re: Real Madrid Sign Baptista From Sevilla
« on: July 29, 2005, 12:03:10 PM »
Ah agree with yuh Palos.  Woodgate is still a question mark for the season; he hasn't played in over a year, and will only suppress rumors about an injury flare-up when he makes a decent run of appearances in the first team.  Also, Samuel, supposedly brought in to shore up the defence last season, was shaky at best.  They need another center back.  That is where they are vulnerable.  That shows that they still not changing they attitude of just buying the best whether they need support in that position or not.  Benitez showed them how to manage a squad in Spain, winning the league with Valencia by building a team of players, not a squad of galaticos.

Football / Real Madrid Sign Baptista From Sevilla
« on: July 29, 2005, 11:35:25 AM »
Fellas they can't leave ah good player alone.  Ah don't like they rapacious attitude.  Real too greedy.  How much room they have?  Looks like Owen could be on his way.

Real sign Arsenal target Baptista

Wenger waits on Baptista
Arsenal look to have missed out on Brazilian forward Julio Baptista after Sevilla agreed a fee with Real Madrid.
Sevilla said on their website they had agreed a fee of £13.8m (20m euros) rising to £16.9m (24.5m euros).

"The only logical decision was to sell him," Sevilla club president Jose Maria del Nido said.

Arsenal were close to agreeing a fee for Baptista, but he insists he will not be joining because he wants to qualify for Spanish citizenship.

Baptista will have been resident in Spain for two years in August and can apply for citizenship then, but it is unlikely to be granted until 2006.

He said: "It's very important for me for me to become Spanish.

"I'm very happy that teams of that calibre are interested in me. But I've got until next year to think about it."

Earlier, Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido said the Gunners were close to agreeing a club record fee for the Brazilian.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who hinted the versatile Baptista could be a replacement for ex-skipper Patrick Vieira, was keen to bring the player to Highbury.

The Gunners made an offer in excess of the £17.5m fee they paid for Jose Reyes in January 2004.

 Spurs enter Baptista race

But the Spaniards resisted Arsenal's bids for Baptista, while Tottenham also showed an interest in the player.

Baptista started off as a midfielder but has been converted to a striker, with great success.

No harsh feelings Jersey Trini.  Either way, he didn't mind joining a good team, regardless of the reason.

When it rains, it pours.  What he complaining about.  Yuh have rosters in the EPL that less than the cost of one of his players.  Why he complaining?  Other managers wish they had that type of funds at their disposal.

Woodward better just try and learn the game.  This ain't rugby.  He better know he place. Seems like he has a good tactical and technical eye, but it will take some time before he is ready to manage a Premiership team.

Ferguson only holding back on spending.  He trying to make Alan Smith into ah holding midfielder.  He bette rslpash out on a creative midfielder and a good defensive midfielder.  Make the offer of 15M pounds for Ballack and see if yuh could woo him.  Mey boys Liverpool look like they could do the double on them this season.  We squad shaping up nice with good depth in all positions.  All we need is a strong, quick center back.  AH love Hypia, but he does get exposed for speed on the flanks when they draw him out of the middle.

Jersey Trini.  Kevin Barrow left because he wanted to be on a winning team.  That is the reality.  He won the National Intercol title that year with P. Town.

Big zonal section of the confederation and they don't have a website.  Boy, I tell yuh.  We can't buy professionalism.  They still feel football is ah sweat in the savanna.  CFU could do better than that.  That is the authority for Caribbean football and they have no website!

KND 2 talking shit again. Go wash yuh mouth boy, it full ah shit.  Boss we ain't have no time to spot diamond in the rough right now.  This is the middle of the qualifiers.  AH will say it again; we pro in name only at home.  Only two clubs--Jabloteh and Connection--working towards adopting a professional structure, where they place a heavy emphasis on player development through the youth streams.  Teams home need to move towards the Academy setup, where players learn the science of the game from a young age.  Yuh can't teach men hardened in their bad habits new tricks right now.  Training for two hours in the evening doh make yuh ah pro, and the league home is not competitive. The general standard of the league needs to be elevated, but it has to come from the clubs realizing that they must adopt a professional structure to their franchises.

As a former P. Town player ah could tell yuh that even the Pres men started coming to join we when they realized that the guard had changed.  The best players from as far as Mayaro, Point, Fyzo, P. Ville, Vesigny, wanted to be on a top squad.  Importing going on donkey years now.  Avery John never pass for Pres, nor did Mervyn Wright, just to name a few.

Jayerson, ah think yuh need to remove Toldo from that list.  At one time, it was hard to separate him from Buffon, but he sh*tting on he self for Inter.  Last time I heard, they were possibly looking into replacing him.  When last yuh see him get a national team callup? He not up to par.  Showed great promise early on, but has faded.

Mr. Bufon, followed by Casillas and Cech.  Ah will throw in Van Der Sar also.  People will start remembering what a good goalie he is now that he is back with a high profile club, but he never lost anything. Kahn still good too.  Up and coming: Reina (Liverpool), Kameni (Need to see a little more of how he commands his defence and how he deals with crosses before I make further jugdment, but he is definitely one of the best shot stoppers out there), Robinson, and Germany's future No. 1--Hildebrand.

Football / Re: Ronaldo To Quit The Seleçao After 2006 World Cup
« on: July 20, 2005, 02:22:54 PM »
He wants to go out on top.  Brazil is churning out players right now, and while he is a special player, Ronaldo is not irreplacable.  Adriano, Baptista, Kaka, Robinho and company, are all waiting to fill his spaces.  What he brings though is a consistency.  We have to remember that this boy broke onto the scene as a 17-year-old, who was then a part of the 1994 World Cup team.  That's over a decade ago.  WHile he's still relatively young, he must be tiring mentally.  He could probably do a better job of keeping himself in shape too.  I want to agree that he needs to improve his physical condition.  At times, he reminds me of those men who haven't played for six months, then they run out in a minor league and yuh could tell that the uniform too tight, or that they been hitting the beer and liquor real hard.
