Football / Re: ARSENAL FOREVER
« on: January 02, 2011, 05:03:26 PM »
I guess my input to the discussion is as such ....with regards to Djourou did you guys know he initially came in as a defensive midfielder and was converted to a defender. Did you also know that he is supposedly the fastest on the team after Walcott with a toss up between him and Vela.
The main problem with him has been injuries last season he was injured for the entire season, a knee injury to booth and got injured again during preseason... needless to say his reliability as a first choice defender has been questioned due to his fragility. Arsene has tried to slowly build him up with games and tried to keep him injury free much like Gibbs (who in my opinion would have been starting if he was not injured so much). Fact over fiction there are doubts as to if he can last the entire season with his injury record.
In fairness to the other two they have been thrown head first into the fire ... no settling period , they never played in the EPL and only one of them had part of the pre season and their best defender has been injured out most of the season ... fellas if Arsene don't rotate these three we're screwed.

But a wise man once said the cream always comes to the top ... this squad talent wise is so close together that it is hard to really see sure starters but this team has surely but slowly selected itself and I will say that the team against chelsea  is possibly our strongest team with a few minor adjustments.
For one thing when Vermalean is back he starts... on current form he starts with Djourou ... who gives him good speed, heading ability  and relative calm ... my only beef with Djourou is that for a man his size he does NOT play aggressive enough he just gets the job done  .... attackers are not afraid of him ... psychologically that puts him at a disadvantage ... he needs to put the fear into them .... in a rigorous way!
Gibbs to me when fit is the better left back .. despite the injuries ... but naturally I understand why Clichy is still starting..... coincidentally I saw a replay of Messi vs Real ... sigh .. Clichy has to play the game of his life to contain that lil hobbitt!
Van Persie can't play as a winger anymore because I don't know if anyone has noticed but he has lost a step!
He is a smarter more mature player now who is getting back his touch his role really is to link and play in Walcott and Nasri those two lil speed demons and complement that with some ripping shots to goal ... which he still has.
Wilshire ... youth not bad but somehow I would prefer Rosicky instead the man does work hard and have vision and technique to burn..Fabianski has done well I have to admit but I would prefer the other keeper but because they're so close together they will keep each other honest.
Of course have to throw in meh piece about Walcott he is a decent finisher and you can't train speed like that no team with the closest exception of Bale from Tottenham has speed like that youth.
My only significant disagreement with you. Rosicky has not been effective this season and he definitely doesn't work as hard as Wilshire defensively. The ideal player for that position is Diaby, if he can get over his injury problems. Denilson is a good replacement when we need a little more defense. Rosicky is past his 'sell by' date.

Scezney (?) looks to be our best keeper.
Clichy was the weak link defensively. He allowed Nani (pussy) too much space and allowed him to run with the ball which is his strength.
Rosicky and Arshavin were both passengers. Neither contributed anything offensively or defensively.
Theo does something that few others do....he shoots....and he is pretty accurate
We lost that game because of desire and coaching
I agree the pitch was horrible but that was a tactical decision, designed to disrupt our passing. It worked.
Chamak showed more fight than any other Arsenal player. His hard work defensively affected him offensively.
Wegner played the wrong team and needs to do a better job in his player evaluations, he doesn't give enough weight to fighting spirit in evaluating players
Every call went the way of United, including the penalty, Rio "Bruce Lee" Ferdinand and Fletcher pushing the ref and not even getting a yellow
Djourou needs to be on the field
Arsenal have a mental problem.

I have nothing but ill-will towards Newcastle. I do believe that being black worked against him in addition to them being delusional about themselves.

The EPL is worse than the NFL when it comes to minorities in management. Secondly, minority managers are never given time to prove themselves. Ask John Barnes, Paul Ince and now Chris Houghton.

Wenger changed up the system today to accommodate Van Persie and Chamakk today but, if the most creative elements stuck on the wings that stifles creativity as it did today. A win is a win but this system won't work against manu!
Walcott looked hungry ... good!
Gibbs got injured .... again!
Rosicky might have been a better option  in the middle than Denilson!
We looked toothless!

Agreed 100% - I don't see what Denilson brings to the team that Rosicky can't.

Wenger used the system, not just today, but in the last few games that van Persie played. My guess is that it's the only way he sees he can accommodate both van Persie and Chamakh.
Denilson is probably the best ball winner on the team.

I just saw this result while watching Birchall play for LA in Australia. He is technically better and has a better workrate than any of our current midfielders. I really wonder about the reasoning for him not being on the team.

Any news on Gibbs is a a broken metatarsal?

Not broken. Just a foot contusion. Short term injury.

Important because I think he may shortly displace spastic Clichy.

I was surprised at the strength of the team the Arse out out today but they were full value for their win tonight.  A lot of Spurs fringe players hurt their cause badly tonight, the one bright spot was Sandro who had a good debut.

I could spout a litany of excuses (like Arse fans after the 5-1 a few years back) but licks is licks.

Well played Goooners.
I thought that Sandro was poor. More like a Lucas type.

I have no problem with him using the locals in preperation for the Digicel cup... but what I have a problem with is the absolute joke of local players he continuously uses.

Cupid, Makan, Akeile ??  how many chances do you get?  they have to be the luckiest players in the world...men racking up caps

Keston Williams,Mitchell and Cyrus are raw but have potential...I could understand their place in the squad. We have no CB's in the pro league that better than Makan to push him out the squad? We have no RB and LB ? you serious?

I would go for Akeem Adams at LB as the local selection... boy played in U17 and U20 World Cups and is now of age.. has the quality and youth on his side...time to reward him and get that shitsnake holding the role down out

Primus should be a CB... groom him now because he's going to be important in the campaign....eventually the 3 main CB'S will be Primus, James and Marshall

Curtis Gonsalves(Boyo) can play RB and CB and he is another from the U20 that I have been impressed with

My other problems with Latapy:

1) He seems to be caught up with only attacking and nice knocking etc but what he has failed to do is keep a structure on the field...no shape... we are a mess off the ball.. no high pressure no position so we are opened up easily... on the ball, some good passing but generally we eventually give the ball away because we do not have quality like Barca Arsenal to play pretty football... We need to have " a house" .. which is the style Leo had where we had a foundation (defense) and the rest of the house to keep a structure throughout 90 minutes.... The only way this team can improve under Latapy is if we acquire a defensive coach who can bring that structure to the team...

2) Lac of Motivation : Lets face it he is a zombie...a sleeper.... a trinidad version of Maturana but with gifted feet...only time he up for anything is in bed with a bombshell... but motivator for a team and as a coach? no way in hell.... I think the players have massive respect for him but they treat him like any other local coach because we come across more as a joke and a friendly set up rather than the reactive respect Beenhakker or a foreign coach would receive from a team

3) I dont know why he refuses to change up the squad until he finds what he's looking for from the local  players... Shitload of B internationals and consistently picking the same squad...

I dont think he's the right man for the job...my stance has always been a foreign coach with a Beenhakker mentality..one that can inspire confidence, discipline and the ability to play football with a plan

UNC/COP in power...Jack you have no excuses... Fund the f**king thing... bring in a Coach actually bring in a Staff... get some big friendlies...get this ball rolling

FOR f**k SAKE
Your best post ever!!!

Edwards is the worst thing in tugs ever. He slow, weak, poor first touch, doesn't read or anticipate well and every time he gets the ball he plays an aimless long ball. How is this guy even a professional footballer?

I don't get Kerry Baptiste. I have seen nothing so far except that he probably works harder than anyone else on the team. Crazy to think that a little bit of hard work can get you 50goals in the PFL. The standard must be really low.

Guys like Tinto and Micha Lewis have some natural gifts but they have no clue about this game.

Trent Noel too slow, is not a hard worker and is not good enough offensively or defensively to make him particularly useful.

To top it off these guys and the fans actually think they are good.

Interesting indeed.

When you consider that Scholes had retired from international football in 2004 and just last season, some of the same sportswriters that heaping praise on him and callin he genius and ting now....was de same one's dat was callin time on he career jes last season after all de TATA he put dong fuh manchester united.

One particular game where de commie bawl how Scholes needed to be subbed at half time because of the TRIPE he was playin comes to mind.

Now he "reapin de benefits of retiring from international football"

Dis is de same people who does write de same HYPE bout england and dey players every single world cup only to be brought crashing down to earth every single time.

Dey eh know dey ass from dey elbow.  1st game of de season and dem ready to pronounce assholery torkin bout plaudits Scholes gettin so far dis season.

De season is ONE FORKANE GAME!   And he rope een Van Der Sar in de lyrics.  As if.

So when David Seaman was still an england International at age 40 while playing in Arsenal's first team, wha was dat?

Peter Schmeichel did play fuh Demark & Man U up until he was 38 years of age

Peter Shilton was a England goalie and first teamer with top teams while over 40

Doh talk fuh Oliver Khan

WTF does wrong wit dese peeps at all? ::) ::)
The proble is that there are too many people fighting to be heard. Let me say something so if it comes through they can claim to be the first to say it.

That article is a pack of ass. Making a pronouncement one game into the season. :rotfl:

The goalkeeper never even step up to close the space. He went back into the goal. The left back is inside too much and is leaving too much space.

The problem has to be the coaching. These are basic issues that should have been dealt with at a junior level. Their fitness  is horrible. The pace of play is way too slow offensively and defensively. The game is at walking pace and these guys can't keep up.

Way too many issues. Must be the coaching.
